- Westville Boys’ High School is a world-class South African institution that prepares its students for a rapidly changing global environment and has developed an enviable reputation for achieving all-around excellence in the education of its students. Despite its widespread recognition, the School has retained the community character for which it has become known since its inception. Westville Boys’ High School is a happy and productive school with considerable stakeholder involvement. We believe in the value of a balanced, all-around education encompassing Academics, Sport, the Arts, and Leadership. Across all these areas we are committed to nurturing in our boys the intellectual, creative, and interpersonal skills which will be demanded of them in the rapidly changing, complex, uncertain, and ambiguous world of today. Our ultimate aim is to develop our boys into respected and responsible young men who will add value to society in their lives and chosen careers. Westville Boys’ High School has a proud record of academic achievement. Its reputation as a top school was built around academics during the first years of its existence. This reputation has now been enhanced by a high degree of success in sport, culture, service, and leadership as well. At WBHS teaching methodology in each subject is generally based on a questioning and interactive approach. The School also promotes the concept of collaborative learning as a skill that benefits all pupils. This is evidenced through classroom activities and the academic extension and academic support programs offered outside of the timetable. At WBHS a strong emphasis is placed on Mathematics and Science. The School does not subscribe to channeling pupils into subjects that may be regarded as softer options. Our emphasis on obtaining the highest possible number of pupils taking Maths and Science for matric allows pupils to extend themselves to their full academic potential and to maximize their opportunities in their chosen careers. Westville pupils are regularly among the top performers in the annual National Senior Certificate examinations, both provincially and nationally. The School’s most recent top performer was Jarrod Staples who was placed second in the county in 2018. This achievement followed Asil Motala, who was the top matriculant in South Africa in 2013. He was the second Westville pupil to attain the number one spot in the country. Colin Bigg, in 1999, was the first to achieve this accolade. On eight occasions since the first matriculating class at the School in 1959, a Westville pupil has been the top placed matriculant in the province. WBHS is a member of the Alan Gray “Circle of Excellence”. This network recognizes a maximum of 100 schools in South Africa each year, both public and private, that is, among other things, committed to genuinely transforming South African society and who produce young graduates who have a hopeful view of themselves, their country, their continent, and the world. WBHS has been a member since 2008, the founding year of this prestigious network. Westville Boys’ High School is proud of its world-class Aquatics Centre. It is the home of our championship-winning swimming team, which is unbeaten across all galas it has competed in since 2008. The Aquatics Centre includes the Chad Le Clos Pool, which is a 30m x 35m pool with a uniform depth of 2.2m to cater for advanced swimming and water polo. This pool was funded from various sources including a grant from the National Lottery Board. This pool is the venue for the prestigious annual Westville Invitational Gala. The Centre also includes the Chad Ho Pool, which is a 25m x 25m pool financed more than 40 years ago through a partnership between the School and the ex-Natal Education Department. We believe in the value of sport-for-all, career opportunities in Sport, and the positive influence of Sport on enhancing academic performance, emotional intelligence, and resilience. We promote full participation, fair play, sportsmanship, commitment, teamwork, collaboration, resilience, and year-on-year progression in the physical and inter-personal skills of our sportsmen. We also commit to tailoring our academic support, teaching, and coaching programs to the needs of high-performance sportsmen. Westville Boys’ High School has established a fine reputation as a leader in the Performing Arts. The School aims at excellence in holistic education, and the Performing Arts is a major feature in the strategic mission of the School. This activity constitutes a definite point of difference in comparison to other boys’ schools. A major production is staged three times per year. The productions are of the highest acting and technical quality and are not restricted to any specific genres. These have included Broadway musicals such as High School Musical 1 & 2, Oklahoma! and Guys & Dolls serious dramatic plays such as The Crucible, Macbeth, Master Harold and the Boys, White Men with Weapons, and A Few Good Men as well as Shakespearean plays Macbeth, Hamlet, and The Tempest. Musical revues along with specific themes also showcase the singing and dancing talents of WBHS students. Cultural evenings, dance festivals, and the annual Shakespeare Schools’ Festival presentations are also staged every year, exposing as many boys as possible to the very strong culture of Performing Arts at the school. For female roles, WBHS opens its auditions to budding actresses from a variety of local schools. View full school

- On 17 August 1914, the Weston Agricultural and Allied Trades School opened on its present site at Weston, with five pupils. Two weeks previously, World War One had broken out, and immediately the growth of the new school was affected. After three years, numbers had increased to sixty and in 1925 the name was changed to Weston Farm Training School. At this time a two-year course was introduced with an emphasis on practical agriculture. In an old notebook written by John Kirby, who came to the Mooi River area in 1851, he speaks of teeming herds of game, amongst which were buffalo and lion. As time went by, the land slowly became occupied and the road to the North was developed. Originally, Weston was a village laid out at the junction of the road to the North and the Mooi River. This area was the cen+re for transport riders with their ox wagons. Wet weather often delayed transport and at such times there were large gatherings of travelers, wagons, oxen, mules, and servants. A post office was set up in 1854 and later the Lake Hotel. By 1866 there was sufficient demand for a bridge to be built across the Mooi River and Helen Bridge, still standing, was named after the daughter of Natal's Governor and Commander of the Imperial Troops, General J.J. Bissett. Helen, who was noted for her beauty, married the son of Sir Theophilus Shepstone. Near the Helen Bridge are the ruins of the Lake Hotel which was destroyed by fire. Consistent with Weston’s ethos of striving for excellence is the school’s holistic approach to education. This includes the integration of the CAPS curriculum as well as the completion of PAT (Practical Assessment Tasks) which form a component of their Grade 12 mark. Our Matric scholars write the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations. Should your son choose to follow a career in agriculture it is pleasing to know that all agricultural subjects carry points towards a Bachelor’s pass. It has always been our goal to educate boys for life through the integration of academic and farming instruction in such a way that each boy is allowed to optimize HIS potential. This includes all our boys, from average learners, who are recognized for effort attained in academics, to our top academic achievers. This approach to education has proved extremely successful in preparing our scholars for their future and is reinforced by qualified, dedicated, and committed staff who are passionate about their professions. We have a body of well-qualified teaching staff that is committed and passionate about our school and is always prepared to go the extra mile. They not only take an interest in the academic progress of the boys they teach daily but also in their wider areas of achievement on the farm or sports fields. There is an established link between physical activity and students' academic performance. A student's brain does not keep itself healthy independently. It is the connection with a healthy, moving body that can help improve brain performance. There is also very definite evidence of improved cognitive performance (attention, memory, concentration), self-esteem, mental health (reduced depression, anxiety, stress), enjoyment, and lesson engagement from school students' participation in physical activity. While engaging in sport, scholars also learn life skills such as teamwork, leadership skills, social growth, communication, time management, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle – a necessary skill in an age of convenience. We request parents to support us in this endeavor, as it is vital to both the physical and mental health of your child to remain fit and healthy during and after their adolescent years. Together with the School Code of Conduct, Weston Agricultural College has several school policies in place to ensure that our school is managed correctly and fairly. These School Policies have been approved by the School Governing Body (SGB) as elected by the parent body of Weston Agricultural College. We encourage all parents to ensure they are familiar with the Code of Conduct and these policies. Hard copies are available from the School’s Front Office.

- Sutherland High School, where it is our Vision for each child to reach their full potential. Our proud history and desire to be a relevant and meaningful place of learning to society inspire us to go the extra mile. Excellence in Academics, Sport, Culture, and Leadership Development are key and form part of holistic development. Sutherland High School is well known as a school of academic excellence, a fact of which we are extremely proud. Under the leadership of Mrs. Elinor du Preez, the Senior Academic Head, and Mrs. Yolande van der Merwe, the Junior Academic Head a team of Academic Empowerment Heads monitor and facilitate the progress of each learner across all the grades. Our strong team of Academic Empowerment Heads makes a significant contribution to academic progress by constantly monitoring learners’ performance and introducing a broad range of intervention strategies. In partnership with parents, class teachers, and the learners themselves, the grade heads work towards finding solutions to the challenges that learners face from time to time. Under their combined leadership, termly academic results are reviewed and analyzed to plot the way forward. In the Academic Support Centre, Mrs. Izelle Wood provides the necessary support to improve learner results. Here we cater for learners who require support in terms of dyslexia, dysgraphia, Asperger’s, autism, ADD, and other challenges. The commitment to excellence by all our academic staff and learners shows in all results across the board. A strong mind must be carried by a strong, healthy body. At Sutherland, we ensure that every learner has the opportunity to participate in a vast array of sporting activities. Under the able leadership of Mr. Abraham Brand, the sporting offering has developed into a brand portfolio. With an obvious passion for sport, Mr. Brand and his dedicated team have designed a structure that benefits every learner. High-Performance programs have been developed for the main sporting codes where experienced and well-trained coaches guide our athletes. Pre-and post-season training takes place throughout the year and many sporting fixtures are scheduled to challenge each team. We encourage every learner to participate in at least two sporting activities as we cater for the individuals, team players, those who focus on endurance, and those who focus on strength – all admirable aspects of the sporting life at Suthers. Sporting facilities and equipment are constantly reviewed and upgraded to allow our learners the best foundation. Currently, we are upgrading our swimming pool area and we have just recently installed flood-lighting at our Hockey astroturf. A well-rounded individual is someone who can develop intellectually, physically, and creatively. Our cultural team is well-equipped to offer every learner the opportunity to explore their creative potential. Our Head of Culture, Ms. Nicola Couling, has a passion for the arts. Under her meticulous guidance, a dedicated team of staff takes on a broad range of cultural activities throughout the year. Learners can participate in several activities namely Mr and Miss Sutherland where we have redefined the pageant platform. Redenaars, Public Speaking, and Debating. Cheerleading and being a member of our enthusiastic War-Cry Leaders. One-Act Plays, Theatre, and Musical productions. And many more various cultural portfolios. - Welcome to Trinityhouse! Our Christian school has a traditional ethos with deep roots. Here, teaching and learning take place in a loving, nurturing environment where pupils are encouraged to become happy, confident, and competent individuals. The holistic approach to education allows each pupil to find their potential, in body, mind, and spirit. At Trinithouse children are allowed to mature in a protected environment with high ideals and values. All five Trinityhouse campuses boast rich and rewarding academic, sports, and cultural programs. The first Trinityhouse School was founded in Randpark Ridge in 1997 with 242 pupils, after which the school enjoyed unprecedented growth. The founding campus operated on its own until 2011 until rapid expansion of the brand took place. Trinity house Little Falls opened its doors in 2012, followed by Palm Lakes in 2013, Heritage Hill in 2014, and Northriding in 2015. At Trinityhouse we are aware that we are preparing our pupils to move into a world of work that will be defined by jobs that don’t currently exist, using technologies that haven’t been invented, to solve problems that are no problems yet. The Fourth Industrial Revolution will have brought with it advanced automated robotic processes and autonomous transport, as well as advances in artificial intelligence and machine learning, uses of advanced materials, biotechnology, and genomics. These developments will transform the way we live, and the way we work. As stated by Harvard University “Put simply, preparing our students to participate fully in today’s and tomorrow’s world, demands that we nurture their global competencies.” After extensive research, conversations, and exploration of global educational approaches to these evolving workplace requirements, Trinityhouse defined the Global Competencies we would strive to develop from Pre-Primary children through to matriculants. Five Core Global Competencies have been identified as: • Thinking Skills (Critical, Creative and Reflective Thinking) • Research Skills ( Inquiry learning and Media Literacy) • Communication Skills (Participating in discussions/Sharing of understandings) • Social Skills (Collaborating with others/ Learning how to interact with others) • Self-Management Skills (Reflection, Growth Mindset, Self-Regulation) As Trinityhouse continues to explore and expand our approaches to teaching and learning, the Core Skills as global competencies, continue to be a fundamental curriculum component included across all disciplines, for all pupils of all ages. All Trinityhouse staff are engaged in regular training the purpose of which is finding authentic connections within their subjects, to develop these skills in a variety of contexts. View full school

- The School has been closely associated with the growth of the German community in the district, which has its roots among the first settlers who came to Natal in 1848. The German settlers around Noodsberg Road founded the first church and school at Kirchdorf in 1881. Following then, the Wartburg Church and School came into existence in 1892. In 1931, the two congregations, after many difficult negotiations, decided to have a combined school, Wartburg Kirchdorf Government School, which would serve the community better than two separate schools. This school was situated in High Street, Wartburg. As more and more farmers began to settle in the area, the new Wartburg Kirchdorf School grew steadily and was given a tremendous boost during the 1960s when a sugar mill was built in the district. This brought many more people to the area and the Wartburg Kirchdorf School had grown from strength to strength ever since. With the expansion of the number of learners, a separate site for the High School was found in Fountainhill Road and the Primary and High Schools separated in 1974. The Wartburg Kirchdorf School is committed to creating a happy, Christian-based environment wherein all learners can, through constructive interaction with motivated facilitators, achieve their full individual academic, cultural and sporting potential, thereby enabling them to achieve self-reliance and responsible citizenship. Since 1881 the Schools in Wartburg were dedicated to the quality of education of the children from the district. This drive for quality led representatives from the Wartburg Kirchdorf Schools (both Primary and High) to engage in discussions that resulted in the promotion of the amalgamation of the two campuses into one facility at the “High School” premises in 1997. The actual process of moving the Primary School was done very efficiently by a concentrated community effort. Children at the old school were sent home for four days, from Tuesday to Friday and by Monday the job was done, with a few minor tasks outstanding. Some minor building changes were effected. Mr. Göhring retired as the last principal of the Wartburg Kirchdorf Primary School in 1997. In 2000 plans were put forward to establish a Pre-Primary at the School and after some slight modifications, the Pre-Primary was opened for business in January 2001. This School has undergone many changes over the years and has grown from its very humble beginnings, into a school with a proud reputation for consistent academic excellence, steadfast and free despite all odds. In this phase, our pupils are exposed to multiple learning opportunities through facilitated play and discovery to set the foundation for their future development. This phase develops every child academically, spiritually, culturally, and on the sports field. Learning is interactive, innovative, and designed to stimulate young minds. This phase produces self-reliant and responsible young adults who have been exposed to exceptional academic standards. Our educators assist learners to reach their full potential. View full school

Whilst following the Western Cape Education Department curriculum, we still hold to the ethos of homeschooling but have honed and improved on it to offer a unique approach to education that will equip children to excel through their school years and achieve the highest possible Matriculation results at the end. The name “Abeille Ruche” (AH-BAY REESH), which means “The Beehive” in French, is based on the concept of a beehive where everyone works together in harmony, with clear communication and commitment to producing a beautiful end product (the honey in the beehive’s case, a well-balanced, happy and academically astute learner in ours). Each child is of utmost importance – we are not about the business of education but rather about the children themselves. Restricted pupil numbers ensure that our classes remain at a maximum of 14 per class and ensures that our pupils are not “lost” in the classroom but given individual attention, are stimulated and eager to learn. Our motto: “Growing in Wisdom”, comes from Luke 2:52. This states the goal of Abeille Ruche School: that learners do not merely acquire head knowledge, but that they should be able to apply their knowledge in their everyday lives. Our badge: The badge consists of two sections: a mountain and a honeycomb. Table Mountain is an immediately recognizable silhouette of Cape Town where our flagship school is based. It is purple, to symbolize the majesty of God. The honeycomb represents the beehive, a figurative representation of our education system and the method in which the pupils are educated. It is gold to depict the value of education. The bee in the foreground represents the pupils who, with their teachers’ help, produce the sweet honey of education. Reading is the most important skill that a child learns at school. Achievement in all learning areas is dependent on a child’s reading ability. If your child is in the Foundation Phase and battling to learn to read, or is older, but reading below Grade level, he/she will benefit from extra reading support. View full school

- Coleraine Grammar School, which opened a year ago in September 2015 as a co-educational voluntary grammar school to serve the educational and developmental needs of our pupils and to build on the excellent foundations provided by Coleraine High School and Coleraine Academical Institution. Our school provides a broad, balanced, and modern curriculum and high-quality learning and teaching supported by effective pastoral care. The personal development of the girls and boys benefits greatly from the wide range of extra-curricular activities which are on offer to our pupils. Our Vision for Coleraine Grammar School is to provide a safe environment, with clear boundaries, in which every child is provided with high-quality learning opportunities and is inspired to develop a life-long love of learning. Each child is encouraged to develop academic, emotional, and physical aspects of their lives within a moral, spiritual, and values-based framework. This enables pupils to grow as individuals and achieve success in their lives now and in the future. We seek to encourage accountability for actions and solve problems by looking for positive solutions. We are all responsible and accountable for the choices we make. We realize that with choices come consequences and in addition to accepting the consequences of our actions we take steps to put things right when things go wrong. We expect all members of the school community to be truthful and honest in all that they do, to know the difference between right and wrong, and to have the moral courage to do the right thing. We care for those who are in difficulty and who are hurting, recognizing that the world does not exist for us alone. Every person in our school is of equal worth. We show the same respect to everyone. We are all responsible for controlling our emotions and impulses. We expect everyone to adhere to school rules. Each member of the school community should be loyal in both words and deeds to each other and the school. Everyone is encouraged never to give up, to treat setbacks as learning experiences and a step towards success. We believe that through building resilience we can develop confidence, take hold of opportunities, and be independent and successful citizens. We seek to develop the skills to allow us to be independent lifelong learners. Everyone gives their very best at all times and encourages others to fulfill their potential without being critical or jealous of their efforts. We strive for high standards in all areas of life. - We believe that all individuals can improve and learn. All people develop at different rates and have expertise in a wide range of subject areas with unique learning styles. Our program focuses professional attention on each student and challenges them to achieve their maximum potential. The whole child is our focus and learning and academic achievement form a significant part of the development of a loving, compassionate, healthy, and thoughtful world citizen. Assessment of this learning takes a variety of forms. Formative assessment through daily learning work, class participation and discussion, classroom learning activities, and peer interactions occupy a significant part of creating a child’s learning profile. Summative assessment is made in the form of tests, quizzes, projects, presentations, and exams. It helps in determining specific content knowledge, concept mastery, and ability to apply knowledge. Throughout the curriculum, we focus on the ability to communicate understandings, apply knowledge to novel situations, and solve problems. All children develop at their pace-a a pace we accelerate for all students when they are ready. We don’t believe single sittings of examinations should judge the future of children. Our rigorous approach to learning ensures that we view children and learning as works in progress rather than “snapshots” of a singular endeavor. We are unique in this adventure of learning. This school is committed to continuous improvement. We hire only the most qualified of teachers and seek students and families to join our community who are committed to the development of the whole child. Our school to a large extent accomplishes this with a larger perspective of education. Our philosophy is of reducing pressure and retaining a student’s hopes and self-esteem, without which education loses its purpose. At our school, students are not competing with each other but with themselves by constantly raising their expectations and successfully achieving those targets. This makes them not only highly “individual driven” but also sensitive to other’s failures, a very important factor that shapes them into fine human beings. Our school nurtures the tangible and intangible strengths of each student, carefully preparing them to face the challenges of a competitive world. We trigger their curiosity and encourage them to step into unfamiliar grounds without fear. This gives a student an edge over their peers, as they are taught not to fear failure and that failure is an important step towards achievement. We make learning an enjoyable experience that can never be forgotten but provides points of reference in one’s future. The mission of Learners Own Academy is to develop each child to his or her fullest potential, spiritually, intellectually, and physically, that each may grow in grace, enjoy freedom through knowledge, and lead a healthy, productive and meaningful life. To integrate academic excellence, community spirit, and healthy lifestyle to create an environment that inspires a child to learn to his/her ability. To make Learners Own Academy a community of people which includes the students, parents, faculty, and staff, who have a great love for God, love for neighbor, and a love for learning. To express warmth, empathy and concern, and respect for life. To lead children to knowledge and experience the love for learning. Active participation in class and activities of the school. Our multipurpose indoor sports complex is almost ready with a football ground, two basketball grounds, eight badminton courts, two Tennis courts, two volleyball courts, three-lane tracks, and plenty of swings in the play area for our Tiny Tots. The formal inaugural ceremony of the sports complex will take place in November. View full school
