The Italian Bilingual School has been established in 2002 and provides a unique approach to teaching and learning by offering a bilingual aspect that has combined elements of both the Australian and the Italian curriculum to provide a program of study which targets the needs of our students. This program leads the children to think about what they stand for about Christian values, life and community issues, and making positive choices. Our senior students have an opportunity to take part in the Young Leaders' Day in the city as a highlight of their learning. Motivational speakers and excellent staff leadership also support the 'in school' program. Each year 7 student has a staff member other than their teacher as a personal mentor. School Captains and leadership teams offer leadership and support to other students. One vehicle for this is the Student Representative Council where environmental officers and safety officers from each class share their ideas. Captains lead these meetings, prepare regular newsletter items and encourage positive action in the school and community. Subsequently, my daughter came to teach at GNS and has since enrolled her two girls in the school. We feel lucky to have such a strong connection to this amazing school through the generations. The Middle School heartbeats very much with a sense of vitality and passion as our students take steps towards finding out who they are, what they can do to make a difference, and the part they can play in their personal growth and development.
