  1. Two American mothers, married to Indonesians founded Pelangi in 2006 they also had a background in education and non-profit management. These parents wanted to start a school for their mixed heritage children in the place they called home, Ubud. The vision was to create an inclusive, bilingual school, catering to mixed children as well as an ex-pat and Indonesian children. The aim was that Pelangi would be a place where mixed kids, their Indonesian cousins, and their international friends could all feel equally secure. Pelangi planned to enroll 75% full-tuition-paying students, and 25% low-income scholarship recipients, ensuring cultural and economic diversity. The aim was also to provide a school in the local area of Ubud without children having to endure long journeys to the south of the island to schools outside their local community. Today over 150 children attend Pelangi School and we have evolved into a respected bi-lingual international standard school with a distinct community feel, providing a high standard of education to its multicultural students. Our cohort of students represents 32 nationalities from across the globe. The staff team of 40 is lead by a core team of experienced western and Indonesian educators and includes administrative professionals as well as operational staff. The original Pelangi vision is still strong and we pride ourselves on being a school where Balinese, Indonesian, and the international expatriate community co-exist together as one family. At Pelangi school, we believe in honoring the culture of childhood so that children are engaged and enthusiastic. Pelangi School is a place where children love to learn! This means that the curriculum is both age-appropriate and a ‘living’ curriculum. Our chosen curriculum is the International Primary Curriculum (IPC). The values of the IPC curriculum are humanitarian, secular and celebrate our multicultural environment. The curriculum is made ‘living’ through our ‘holistic – head/heart/hands’ approach. At Pelangi School, we respect the whole child, different phases of childhood, and different individual needs. We are an inclusive school. We understand that healthy and happy children need to develop their physical, emotional, and cognitive abilities to be well-balanced. Children need to do. Children need to feel. Children need to think. We educate their heads, their hearts, and their hands, through imitation, imagination, and inspiration. Specifically, when children engage their hands through imitation, they develop their will. When children engage their hearts through imagination, they develop their feeling. When children engage their heads through inspiration, they develop their cognitive capacity and individual motivation to innovate. When we educate their “heads, hearts, and hands,” we are educating the thinking, feeling, and willing capacities of each child-The whole child.
  2. Sekolah Cita Buana will be the leading provider in Indonesia of high-quality and divergent education pathways for students of diverse backgrounds and capabilities. We will exemplify equal opportunity for all students to reach their full potential for maximum engagement in an emerging global community. We, the students, parents, and teachers of Sekolah Cita Buana, work together in bilingual harmony, believe in equity, and strive for excellence in all we do to deliver high-quality education. We participate in the global community in the spirit of Pancasila (Indonesian National Philosophy). "Unity in Diversity" The learning community of Sekolah Cita Buana provides its students with a cohesive educational foundation. We believe that a learning environment that encourages cooperative endeavor and strives for individual excellence will best prepare students to meet the challenges of an emerging global community. Sekolah Cita Buana has undertaken a long journey with all the accomplishments and challenges it has faced. SCB was established in 1995 in South Jakarta with only 7 students. The school was opened when a group of parents and educators gathered to find alternative options for education that were available in Jakarta at that time. The sole purpose was to create a new schooling system that allows children to grow to their full potential, to have awareness of the environment and learn about Indonesian cultures, and at the same time able to think globally and be bilingual in both Indonesian and English. Therefore, SCB applies two curriculums simultaneously, the Indonesian national curriculum enriched with international curriculums. Since 2001, SCB has seen 150 students graduate, who has since carried on to higher education, mostly abroad such as in Australia, the UK, the United States, Canada, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, and some choose to continue their education in states and private universities here in Indonesia. SCB has grown through this 20-year journey in midst of competition with similar schools up to this point. The success of SCB in being able to grow exponentially from year to year is a positive result that is marked by the significant increase of students under our care which has reached 540 students. Not to mention SCB graduates that are spread out in universities all around the world including several named universities in Indonesia in which serves as an indicator for the competitive educational quality of SCB. Alas, all the success and accomplishments will not be with us if it not for the three pillars of education, parents, students, and teachers that have collaborated and have worked with each other for the goals that we all dream of. And with that, we realize that the SCB is the result of a learning process from the previous SCB that has helped us grow exponentially to be a learning school. SCB means “ideal world” and we hope that all of our students will go on to contribute to the betterment of mankind. View full school

  4. Our school has a short history having begun in 2002, with change being a very big part of our journey. In 2016, the school is working at gaining national accreditation and ensuring we maintain both national and international teaching standards. The process of accreditation is rigorous but important as it shows we are complying with expected standards and regulations. In 2016 we have been fortunate to maintain a stable expatriate staff, several of whom have stepped up to take leadership roles within our more distributive leadership structure. Our lead team focus is on ensuring we deliver quality learning and teaching programs across both our campuses and provide a wide range of experiences for our students. We are finding the best ways to cater for our growing number of English second language learners, to build our dynamic Early Years program, to continue to develop our creative, holistic New Zealand Primary Curriculum, and in Secondary to provide specialized university and career guidance and develop our Language programs to A levels. We are unique in the international teaching world as we are possibly the only school that teaches the NZ curriculum outside of New Zealand. In our Primary campus, we have the Te Whariki curriculum as our backbone for our Early Years program. This encourages play and investigation as an integral part of the young mind’s learning process. We carry this through into our NZ Primary years’ curriculum where our focus is then centered on big ideas and interdisciplinary work. We are looking to ensure that our students get a strong foundation for their secondary school learning but also that they have tolerance and understanding of international cultures and a global sense of their place in the world through a solid immersion in our NZ Primary curriculum. The secondary campus follows the Cambridge Curriculum with our senior students taking International IGCSE / AS / A level examinations. We have recently added the Cambridge Secondary 1 programs to our curriculum strands, which will allow us to look at improving our building blocks to IGCSE. GLOBE We have added the internationally recognized Duke of Edinburgh Award (known in Indonesia as IAYP – International Award for Young People) and have established an NZIS Leadership Award, which is based on helping and serving others. This year we are also introducing a Hauora (Wellbeing) Award. Our House system is based on Maori themes and we acknowledge our role in exposing Maori and New Zealand culture to our students. However, we are advocates of all cultures, especially our host, Indonesia. Our school is small and this allows us to personalize our teaching. Our student-to-teacher ratio is low, especially in senior secondary classes. We include through our TAP program, Indonesian trainees who operate as teacher’s assistants in the majority of our Primary classes, the TAs provide extra support to our students and complement our native English speakers. Most of our Primary staff hail from New Zealand. However, we are not an exclusively NZ school, with our staff coming from all corners of the world and bringing with them a wealth of experience and knowledge. To be a community of confident, connected, and actively involved learners with enquiring minds and a foundation for lifelong learning. Our focus as a school is very much on nurturing the creative minds of all our students. This begins with a student-led play-based approach in our Early Years Centre, continues through the holistic, creative ethos of the New Zealand Primary Curriculum, and culminates in the Secondary area with a focus on developing individual skills and abilities. We emphasize both the nurturing of the individual student and the building of a collaborative NZIS community, able to contribute to the wider global community. Our goal is for NZIS students to leave us as confident learners who are well poised to take their place as lifelong learners in any field they choose. The New Zealand International School – Jakarta (NZIS) is a private, international school located in Kemang, South Jakarta, Indonesia. It was established in 2002 for expatriate and local students living in Jakarta. It is the only school in Indonesia to offer a New Zealand-based curriculum. NZIS has 175 students aged 2 to 18 from about 36 nationalities. The school follows the world-renowned curriculum models for Kindergarten and Primary School from New Zealand. The secondary campus in a similar vein to many New Zealand secondary schools offers Cambridge International Examinations. Cambridge International Examinations is the world’s largest provider of international education programs and qualifications. NZIS has two campuses in Kemang that are about 100 meters from each other. The primary campus caters to the younger students aged 2 to 12 and the secondary campus looks after the emerging young adults. View full school

  6. Educating children for most of my adult life. If you are reading this letter it is likely because we share that commitment and the idea that it is through education that we can make a difference in the lives of our children, and through them in the world that we share. Education is fundamentally about the future, and about our shared belief that we can change the futures of our children for the better. Sometimes we speak of education as making an “investment” in those futures. I think, however, “investment” might not capture all of what is important about what it is we are doing when we make that most important decision about what school will best serve our children. There is an adage that says “Society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they do not expect to sit.” Education is like the planting of those trees. Education is not just an investment, but an act of faith that we can produce not only better futures for our children but also children well-educated who can make that world a better place. We live in unique and challenging times, and at NJIS we strive to educate our students for that future. We understand that we need to tend to our students as individuals, and as capable learners who need to be equipped with the skills that are necessary for success. We recognize that it is important for students to have creative learning opportunities to prepare them to meet unknown challenges. We ensure that we provide time in class for students to share their ideas, express their opinions and describe their perspectives so they can be ready to collaborate across boundaries to solve common problems. We encourage the students to engage in real-world experience projects that allow them to learn through topics that interest them. In short, we at NJIS are planting those trees – and lots of them. We are preparing our students for a future, and shaping that future by that preparation. Choosing a school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will ever make, and we are eager to help you make it. I invite you to learn more about us not only through our website but by arranging a personal visit to our campus. See for yourself how students and faculty interact with one another. Browse the library and computer labs, visit the classrooms, and take in our theater. I am confident that you will discover that NJIS is an exceptional place, where learning becomes a lifelong skill. Welcome to the NJIS Library. At NJIS we believe that the library is the heart of any school. Our mission is to inspire, encourage and equip our school community for a lifelong love of reading and learning while supporting and enhancing school curricular and co-curricular activities. Towards this aim, we provide a comfortable, happy and quiet environment for our inquisitive young learners and endeavor to support the whole school community in their pursuit of quality information and leisure reading material. We encourage all learners and parents to borrow books from our library. Research consistently proves that reading for pleasure is highly related to learner achievement and improvement in literacy. This includes reading, writing, comprehension, spelling, and vocabulary. To expose learners to a wide range of texts and topics, learners are encouraged to borrow fiction (literary) and non-fiction (factual texts). View full school

  12. The Netherlands Inter-community School (NIS) is one of the oldest schools in Jakarta, celebrating 50 years of outstanding education in 2017. Starting with humble roots, the school traces its origins to an Indonesian teacher who would teach Dutch children in the back room of her home in Menteng. As the school’s reputation and student numbers continued to grow, a dedicated building was established in the annexes of the Philips Company on Jalan Proklamasi and NIS formally came into existence in 1967. The school expanded further thanks to the assistance of subsidies from the Dutch government and NIS was relocated to Slipi in 1972. In response to the needs of the expatriate community, the school moved once more to Cilandak, a suburb in Southern Jakarta before its final move to its current home in the leafy surrounds of Jalan Jeruk Perut. For almost 20 years the school has continued to grow and evolve, providing a world-class education to our students. Our amazing students are the lifeblood of our school. They embody the ambitious aspirations of NIS as curious, creative, and enthusiastic young people with an appetite for learning and a thirst for knowledge. We know that children who are happy and secure in their learning environment are children who are more likely to thrive and so we strive to ensure that every day matters for every child. We deliver a dynamic education to our young learners aged 18 Months -12 years old. We use a blended curriculum based on the British Curriculum and the International Primary Curriculum, which focuses on high expectations, key skills and knowledge, and understanding, as well as encouraging excellent attitudes to learn and metacognition. We also provide specialist programs for our Dutch students, leading to the Dutch National Tests. Our international educators are highly experienced and qualified and our excellent standards in learning and teaching create a curriculum that is relevant, rich, and rewarding. Through our strong extra-curricular program, children can try new experiences or build expertise across a sport, cultural, and performing arts program beyond the school day. NIS is an international school that exists at the heart of both the ex-pat and the local community in South Jakarta. Over 20 nationalities are represented on the student body, melded together into a diverse but single group. Our school is proud to have established and nurtured a welcoming environment, where parents are encouraged to be active participants in their child’s education. Many families walk or ride bikes into school and the campus acts as an important source of community and social hub, both for students and parents. Tea and coffee are available for parents each morning, along with freshly baked products from a local Dutch baker using imported flour. View full school

The school’s commitment to an academically excellent education means that our students can knock on the doors of the world’s top universities and colleges and find that they open wide to them. Dyatmika is proud to provide an education that offers the many benefits of bilingualism. We aim for our students to develop into responsible citizens who act ethically and provide leadership in their immediate situation and beyond. 16. Montessori Bali was established in 1998 by Kadek Wiranatha and his wife Natalia Sinclaire, a committed Montessorian who recognized how an authentic Montessori program could benefit the children of Bali. This foundation school consisted of the “Rose Class”, a single preschool classroom with 14 children. The school was so well received that by 2002 a second preschool class, the “Garden Class” was added. Montessori School Bali, a hidden oasis in the hustle and bustle of Berawa. Walk in the gates and you will experience a sense of tranquility that is not obvious from the street. This sense of calm and peace extends into our classrooms where children of all ages go about their day with dignity and purpose, making choices about what is right for them, and getting on with their learning. The Montessori system of education is universal and works just as amazingly here in Bali as in France, Australia, Canada, Thailand, and China. The children here seem to run into school in the morning with beaming smiles, greeting everyone they pass with a pleasant ‘Selamat page, or ‘good morning’ and a polite shake of the hand. As they grow you see the growth in confidence that this simple act engenders, from the young one who doesn’t yet want to and walks past quietly, to the 12-year-old who makes direct eye contact and gives a firm handshake as they say hello. This growth in confidence can be seen in other ways as children move through the school as well, for instance when they stand up in front of an audience to present research, sing, play or recite. At Bali Montessori School your children will have the opportunity to develop in a way that makes the most of their strengths. They will have broad, uninterrupted expanses of time in which to immerse themselves deeply into work that is intensely interesting to them. The chance to do this is precious and creates a sense of contentment and joy that is wonderful to see. View full school

  18. We pursue academic EXCELLENCE in a place of GRACE so that lives will be TRANSFORMED by Christ to IMPACT the world. Mountainview Christian School partners with parents, sending agencies, the Christian community, and the Church to train up and educate children in a Christ-centered environment at an affordable cost. The end purpose of all education is to know, glorify and enjoy God. Therefore, we desire that all Mountainview students accept the gift of salvation that is only available by God’s grace and through faith in Jesus Christ. We affirm parents as the primary educators of their children. Mountainview’s role is secondary and is meant to assist in partnership with parents. Teachers are entrusted by parents as stewards of their children’s education and, accordingly, should work closely with parents to meet student's educational needs. We affirm that the Bible is the ultimate standard of truth and that the Holy Spirit teaches us discernment and guides us to know and love God. We believe there is no distinction between “secular” and “sacred” truth all truth originates with God. Thus, educators, and education, in general, should enable students to see the unity of God’s creation and his special revelation. This approach to a holistic, liberal arts education should logically lead students to a biblical worldview, causing students to adopt God’s interpretation in every aspect of life, which includes the idea of thinking eternally rather than temporally. Consequently, education involves more than intellectual development it also includes moral and social maturity, emotional and physical well-being, creative and artistic expression, and spiritual depth. We affirm that education should cultivate an appreciation for God’s creativity and each individual’s value as a unique image-bearer of the Creator, which should result in promoting and taking greater joy in beauty, creation, the arts, culture, and human relationships. We affirm that children, as members of the human race, are fallen creatures, redeemed through Christ, yet they live in a fallen world. Since children are not morally neutral beings, their education should be proactive in promoting godly living, morals, and worldview. We affirm that the relationship between teachers and students should be modeled on Jesus’ manner with people. It should emphasize the welfare of individuals above the acquisition of knowledge and be characterized by the fruits of the Spirit. In applying discipline seasoned with grace, as led by the Holy Spirit, we hope to further assist students in knowing and understanding God. We believe an education according to the above philosophy provides an opportunity for every student to become a responsible and productive part of society, impacting the world for God’s purpose and glory. This program is highly respected by Universities globally and students who gain the IB Diploma have access to University places all over the world. "Success in an IB program correlates well with success at Harvard. We are always pleased to see the credentials of the IB Diploma Program on the transcript.” GPA is not nearly as important a factor in university admission as the IB Diploma. If a student has to choose, choose the Diploma over protecting the GPA."Harvard University, Marilyn McGrath Lewis, Asst. We find that because the IB is intellectually and personally demanding, it provides a very good springboard for study at university level"Jan Stockdale, dean of undergraduate studies at the London School of Economics (LSE) "My eyes light up when I see ‘International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme’ on a transcript. Students who apply to Michigan State University with IB credentials are assumed to be mature, curious, and creative. They have proven to be successful in a rigorous program that is both broad and deep in its content and intellectual challenge. On-campus, IB graduates move with ease in a diverse and global university that demands intercultural skill and adaptability. The challenge of completing an IB diploma means that a student has engaged in the kind of rigorous work that is likely to help them become not just an outstanding college student and citizen of the world, but an exceptional one." Michigan State University, Pamela Horne, Assistant to the Provost for Enrollment and Director of Admissions. Our new secondary school campus is located in Pejaten, South Jakarta. The school’s programs support students to be compassionate citizens who are respectful and accepting of cultural diversity while retaining and valuing their own culture and language. We take pride in the many activities and learning opportunities our children are exposed to. Additionally, our facilities are internationally first-class. Every classroom at Sekolah Ciputra has a Smartboard or large screen TV and every teacher at the school has completed training to ensure effective use of technology. Ciputra Hall, our Performing Arts Centre has a seating capacity of 710 and uses state of the art technology to serve the students of Sekolah Ciputra as well as the wider community. Our new Pre Elementary School will open in January 2018 and will accommodate the increasing enrolment of our younger students. In the last few years, teams of our students have competed in the World Scholar’s Cup (WSC) Regional Rounds in Surabaya, Bangkok, Dubai, and Singapore, and then on to Yale in the US for the Tournament of Champions. Sekolah Ciputra hosts a Regional Round of WSC which attracts over 240 students from 13 schools. The school also competes nationally and internationally in the Model United Nations (MUN). Students have many opportunities to explore the world around them. Some engage in video conferencing for the Model United Nations, some support and attend environmental workshops around the world, whilst some go overseas on cultural exchange programs. Students can learn a musical instrument from our qualified tutors, enjoy a wide variety of extra-curricular activities, and, of course, play many different sports both internally and as representatives of the school. We maintain a very active website that highlights student participation in a wide range of activities. Academically, last year was the best year in the school’s history. In the IB Diploma Programme examinations, 91% of our IB Cohort achieved the full Diploma. We had three students achieve over 40, including a school's best score to date of 42. The average grade in the DP has been increasing steadily over the last five years and sits above 5 (from a maximum of 7): a wonderful achievement for students the majority of whom complete the examinations in their second language. This truly fits with our mission. Students of Sekolah Ciputra are proud of their national identity, embrace the spirit of entrepreneurship, celebrate cultural diversity and possess the skills, integrity, and resilience to participate in a changing global society.
