Scholarships and grants are two ways to get significant help paying for College without taking out large loans. The process of identifying and applying for different forms of financial aid may feel confusing, but it does not need to be. Our team is here to walk you through the process with helpful information and guidance. The first step is to understand the difference between scholarships and grants better. Most students use a combination of both to help pay for their college education. Scholarships are a form of merit-based financial aid that does not need to be repaid. These can be awarded by a non-profit, a local business, or even an individual. Your high school guidance office should have a list of local scholarships available. We also recommend checking with local organizations, businesses, and even your parent's employer. We encourage students to apply for as many scholarships as they are eligible for and continue applying even after being enrolled and attending school. Our list of scholarships includes some popular options our students have applied for in the past, but there are scholarships for all kinds of interests and accomplishments, so keep searching. 6. The Saint Thomas Choir School was founded in 1919 at Dr. T. Tertius Noble, organist and choirmaster of Saint Thomas Church Fifth Avenue. Dr. Noble had previously been the organist and choirmaster at York Minster in England, where all of his boy singers were students at their choir school. When the rector and vestry of Saint Thomas called Dr. Noble to New York in 1913, Dr. Noble accepted the position to understand that a Choir School would be necessary to achieve the musical standard desired for the parish. A new school opened in 1919 on 55th Street with 21 boys. The school remained at that site, with periodic renovations and additions, until 1987, when it relocated to its current location, a purpose-built fifteen-story building on 58th Street that houses the choristers and full-time faculty. In 1996, the school expanded to include third grade. It now nurtures and educates approximately 30 boys from grades three through eight. The Saint Thomas Choir School houses, nurture and educate the boy choristers of Saint Thomas Church, Fifth Avenue. We work together to cultivate a love of learning through challenging academic study and professional musical training rooted in the Anglican choral tradition. Our unique, familial environment fosters self-reliance and personal growth, preparing students to contribute productively to their communities. The Choir School experience generally begins in the third or fourth. The curriculum for these new arrivals helps them make a smooth transition into our residential community. Saint Thomas Choir School students in class academic focus in the third and fourth-grade classrooms are on comprehension through active listening and reading, collaboration in the shared pursuit of knowledge, and the communication of that knowledge through clear and well-constructed verbal presentations and written compositions. Subject matter includes literary works such as the Narnia Series, history texts including the “Who Was …” series of biographies, experiments, and film clips to bring the science of sound and light to life. The Linguistic Skill Development part of the curriculum focuses on precision tools and grammar as a means of clear communication. In third and fourth grades, boys also have separate classes in mathematics, French, theology, and art. Their music curriculum is extensive and includes music theory, individual voice and instrument lessons, and choir. The third-grade mathematics curriculum is all about using curiosity and pattern discovery to solve problems. We use the Beast Academy series of illustrated textbooks to reintroduce math as skilled play. We make mathematics an adventure that requires a willingness to make mistakes to discover new principles and methods. Developing skills, mastering facts, and understanding operations are promoted in the excitement of solving engaging problems.
  7. Since 1885, Saint Thomas Academy has developed leaders guided by an honorable moral compass. Our Catholic foundation, ongoing campus ministry activities, service learning opportunities, and academic requirements in theology and community service will shape your son’s character and beliefs. This, combined with our military leadership curriculum and applied leadership opportunities within the Corps of Cadets, fosters teamwork, mentorship, and servant leadership among all cadets. Throughout our history, the cadets of Saint Thomas Academy have been well-served by the foundation that is unique to the Academy: all-boys, Catholic, college prep, and military leadership. Saint Thomas Academy boasts a 10:1 student-faculty ratio and small class sizes, allowing faculty time to work with your son individually, ensuring he is encouraged and challenged academically. Each week, faculty have scheduled tutoring hours after the regular school day and before after-school activities begin when they can help students who may have a simple question or need personalized instruction. Our manageable size means everyone at the Academy takes an interest in your son’s development. We all embrace our mission of developing boys into young men of character and know this is best realized in partnership with each other, with the boys, and with parents. The Academy’s unique all-male environment fosters an inimitable bond of brotherhood. And yet, your son will have ample opportunity to explore his individual interests through coursework and co-curricular activities, such as the world-renowned Experimental Vehicle Team, top-ranked athletics, or the prestigious Model UN. We will ask a lot academically of your son and provide the support he needs to succeed. Our dedicated faculty are passionate about teaching boys and have tailored their courses to the ways boys learn best. They will help your son develop the skills he needs for college and beyond through hands-on applications, interactive exercises, and creative instruction. Because of our small class sizes, faculty can devote themselves to one-on-one support if your son should need it. For more than 130 years, the Saint Thomas Academy community of students, parents, faculty, and alumni has prepared young men to succeed in college and life in an environment shaped by the message of Jesus Christ. Saint Thomas Academy’s tradition, discipline, and spirit influence the life of a young man long after graduation. Our mission – to develop boys into men of character – is our promise to our students, our families, our community, and the world. We accomplish this through the transformative power of an educational and life experience deeply rooted in Catholic faith and traditions, academic excellence, military leadership, and an all-male environment. Students at Saint Thomas Academy immerse themselves in their studies with great energy and extreme focus. From the beginning of the day until the evening hours, our classrooms, hallways, labs, and learning center buzz with discussion, experiment, and learning. In our curriculum, your son will learn broad genres of literature and writing, develop skills in basic algebra to calculus, and further his understanding of religion. At Saint Thomas Academy, every boy is pushed to reach his full potential and find his passion. The work of creating a community of inclusion that respects individuals is an essential element of the Saint Thomas Academy mission and its values. Diversity activities often challenge assumptions, habits, and long-held beliefs and habits, and they ask all groups to recognize their similarities and celebrate their differences. Saint Thomas Academy is committed to fostering diversity in its student body, faculty, and staff, as a core value of the school community. Saint Thomas Academy encourages respect for individuality and believes in the importance of community. Therefore, Saint Thomas Academy calls students to standards of academic achievement, behavior, and dress that are conducive to self-discipline, respect for others, and sound moral conduct.

  9. The Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum) is a Dominican institution in Rome's heart. It contains Faculties of Theology, Philosophy, Canon Law, and Social Sciences. The roots of the Angelicum reach the medieval Dominican house of studies in Rome, founded in the XIII century, in which Aquinas taught. It presently offers education in Italian and English for students of about 100 different nationalities. The Angelicum collaborates with academic institutions from all over the world. Among its illustrious students belongs Karol Wojtyła, Saint John Paul II. The Angelicum offers a university education where faith and reason work together. It forms students as virtuous leaders, capable of evangelization and promoting integral human development. Illuminating the present by the wisdom of St. Thomas Aquinas, students, professors, and staff share in Dominican study, prayer, community, and preaching. From the Apostolic Letter "Motu Proprio" Dominicianus Ordo from St. John XIII, in which he honored with the title of Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome, the then International Pontifical Athenaeum Angelicum As to assure an adequate doctrinal formation in universities and religious houses of formation and in order to fulfill our desire that the doctrine of Thomas Aquinas be deepened as a treasure for the development of the Christian life and his writings be made accessible to all since they continue to be relevant to our times and since we are convinced that if the study of the doctrines of the Angelic Doctor continues to be advanced, they will fulfill the determinations of the Fathers of the Second Vatican Council after carefully examining the matter, motu proprio. We decree and promulgate that our apostolic authority designates the International Pontifical Athenaeum Angelicum, legitimately erected and entrusted to the Order of Preachers, now and posterity as the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome. The Angelicum is a Dominican University, founded by Order of Friars Preachers to express the Order's Gospel charism of preaching and teaching the Truth of Jesus Christ to all nations. Like the Angelic Doctor himself, today's students learn by opening the classic books of revelation, nature, and experience, which discloses the inner book of the Church's living Tradition, a Tradition of God's Word made flesh and dwelling amongst us. As a Dominican University, we were founded by order of Preachers to give expression to the Order's gospel charism of preaching and teaching the Truth of Jesus Christ to all nations, focusing on the "Four Pillars" for the Order: Rooted in the personal and professional relationship between professors and students. Opening our hearts and minds to pursue and receive the Truth that is Jesus Christ through contemplation. Focused more on the assimilation of wisdom than on the multiplication of knowledge. Through the mastering of the charity of Truth prepared to teach, bear witness, and serve. Community:- Prayer:- Study:- Preach:- The Dominicans who direct the University seek to continue in the same spirit of Truth of St. Dominic and these Four Priorities and Five Frontiers. Inspired by the great doctor saints of the Order –SS. Albert the Great, Thomas Aquinas, and Catherine of Siena – we aim to penetrate the Truth of Jesus Christ and discover and preach that harmony between faith and reason that our broken world needs today.

We believe that learning engages the whole person we seek to provide an environment conducive to enriching student life. In this regard, pastoral care is of particular concern. Our shared campus with the University of New Brunswick provides our students and faculty with the best of two worlds—the advantages of a small, intimate, academic community and the amenities of a much larger institution. We take full advantage of this arrangement, upholding our obligations under the affiliation agreement we have with our neighboring institution, and seeking new avenues of cooperation and partnership beneficial to both communities. We strive to preserve the tradition of academic freedom. We seek to provide a learning and working atmosphere free of discrimination, injustice, and violence, and that is responsive, understanding, open, and fair. We see ourselves as an essential community resource. We welcome the opportunity to share our facilities, talents, and expertise with others to form partnerships with groups and organizations—whether they are next door or around the world—whose mission, goals, and objectives are in harmony with our own and to provide cultural, religious, artistic, athletic, and social programming that enhances the quality of life of our city and our province. His Strategic Plan is the result of extensive consultation with our community. During that process, bright and positive themes emerged about the future of St. Thomas University. St. Thomas University is a special place for those who study and work here. Our small size, a strong sense of community, and focus on social justice are characteristics that we want to preserve. Many features make us distinct in the post-secondary sector, including our singular focus on undergraduate liberal arts education, the quality of our faculty, select and high-quality programs, the informal and friendly culture on campus, and the beauty and accessibility of our campus, to name a few. The recent celebration of our centenary was a critical moment for our University — it was a time to reflect on our history and accomplishments. It was also an occasion to consider where we are going and whom we want to be. Like every University, St. Thomas University is not just an institution; it is a living body of students, scholars, administrators, and stewards. It is a vibrant and diverse community of people, each with their individual goals. This strategic plan reflects the shared aspirations of our community and seeks to nurture those diverse interests which work together to form a shared vision. As we begin our second century, we will build on our existing strengths and strive to be on the leading edge of developments that enable our students and faculty to flourish. Doing so will be critical to achieving our long-term vision of being the premier liberal arts undergraduate university in Canada. Our purpose is to provide you with a broad academic foundation for more focused academic study during your upper years. During the first half of your degree, you study topics that interest you, discover what motivates you, and learn about various issues and perspectives. 13. The Thomas More College of Liberal Arts was founded to provide a solid education in the liberal arts, a Catholic education for all faiths, united in the quest for what is right, kind, and beautiful. It pursues this mission by seeking Wisdom and sharing it joyfully with the world. The College holds that every human life, from the moment of inception until natural death, is sacred because the human person has been willed for its own sake in the image and likeness of the living and holy God. The human and his endeavors are worthy of our regard, interest, and study. Humanity and the human person's capacity are seen most clearly when viewed under the eye of eternity and the light of Revelation. As St. Ireneaus wrote so many centuries ago, "The glory of God is man fully alive, and the life of man is the vision of God. If the Revelation of God through creation already brings life to all living beings on the earth, how much more will the manifestation of the Father by the Word bring life to those who see God." Thus, the College affirms and enriches the age-old tradition, inherited from Greco-Roman civilization, studying the humanities through the masterworks of Classical and Christian civilization. It holds with equal conviction that the path to Wisdom is best found with the Catholic intellectual tradition's right companions—the Fathers and Doctors of the Church. Their lives were dedicated to understanding and living according to the Word of God. In pursuing its mission, the College does not neglect the desires and insights of people from other cultures and other ages, which strive to answer the most important question of Man's existence. All humanity has been created to know the highest truths and discover happiness in its end. The search, marked strongly by the desire for God and knowledge of metaphysical Truth, is only sustained when men and women live according to classical and theological virtues. Thus, the Board of Trustees is committed to supporting the moral and intellectual life of the College community. In the words of its patron, St. Thomas More, it seeks to establish, govern, and sustain a Catholic academic community in which "learning is joined with virtue." Thus, the College affirms that Catholic education is integral to the mission of the Church in Her proclamation of the Good News. Therefore, the College must be a place to encounter the living God who in Jesus Christ reveals his transforming love and Truth. This relationship should elicit all members of the College community a desire to grow in knowledge and understanding of Christ and His teachings. Far from separating reason, the study of culture, or science from faith, this Catholic humanism allows faith to illuminate reason, enliven culture, and give meaning to all learning. Equally, it allows reason to give voice to humanity's orientation towards the Truth. Such a dynamic between faith, reason, and culture demands a response in contemplation, prayer, charity, and action. It necessitates that the College supports each of its members in their discernment of discovering God's particular vocation and living it. In this way, those who meet the Truth are drawn by the very power of the Gospel to lead a new life characterized by beautiful, good, and true a life of Christian witness nurtured and strengthened within the community of our Lord's disciples, the Church. As a participant in the Catholic Church's educational mission, Thomas More College binds itself to the Church's magisterial teachings, communion with Her authentic hierarchy, and fidelity to Petrine authority. Thomas More College gazes with confidence at the heights which reason can ascend. However, it understands that the climb is arduous and requires something more than mere status or talent. It requires a path, a path-finder, companions, and—crucially—the desire to make the journey. The path is the Catholic tradition. At Thomas More College, students and teachers strive together within a single tradition—the great intellectual tradition of the West, of the Catholic Church, of our civilization. At Thomas More College, the academic life is founded upon the principle expressed by St. Thomas Aquinas that "the vision of the teacher is the beginning of the teaching," that is, that the source or principle of the transmission of knowledge and Wisdom is the teacher's own contemplative life. The College takes its motto, Caritas congaudet veritati–Charity rejoices in the Truth—from the ideal of a common pursuit of Wisdom. As Wisdom—human and divine—is a common good, it is the typical end of the whole community, faculty, and students. There is, therefore, one curriculum for all, without division into specialties or departments. Since human Wisdom is attained through reflection upon our experience of the world and deepened and refined through conversation with our ancestors, our program of studies encourages students and faculty alike to refine the experience of their senses, to hone and train the powers of their minds, and to follow the development of human culture attentively by the reading of great works from Classical and Christian civilization. We take full advantage of this arrangement, upholding our obligations under the affiliation agreement we have with our neighboring institution, and seeking new avenues of cooperation and partnership beneficial to both communities. We strive to preserve the tradition of academic freedom. We believe that obstacles and barriers both real and perceived can be overcome by clear, strategic, and targeted support that creates culture change based on sharing good and outstanding practice, collegiality, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. This underpins our high expectations and actions and drives all the staff to provide opportunities for our children to reach the highest possible levels of attainment and achieve exceptionally well in all walks of life. We believe that outstanding teaching and learning must be central to every decision made and every development introduced. We are an inclusive, caring school where every child matters. We recognize that all children have talents and abilities to celebrate, and part of our role is to help children to discover these. We challenge and develop our children to become curious, autonomous learners who are inspired and stimulated by a rich and varied curriculum that is appropriate to their individual needs. We develop children’s learning skills and, by setting high expectations and exacting standards, we prepare our children to flourish, and have high self-esteem and self-belief. We aim to work closely with our parents, other schools, and organizations, building partnerships that benefit, not only our children but others in the wider community, both on a local, national and global level. We believe that access to outstanding education is a right for all our children and young people. We aim to work in partnership with schools, enabling a locally-based education improvement solution to develop organically and to ensure that peer-to-peer support drives standards and improves outcomes for pupils and staff. We believe in freeing teachers and leaders from bureaucracy to focus on providing the very best teaching, learning, and support that every child deserves. Schools that are part of the Lion Academy Trust will retain their own identity and continue to be the hub of learning in their local community. We want our Trust to become your Trust, a vehicle for you to make a difference in children’s lives. A driving force in releasing the potential in every child.
  23. At St Thomas of Canterbury School, we strive to give all children the best possible education, helping them to be the best they can be. We work in partnership with parents to enable all children to develop their talents within a Christian environment of love, faith, justice, and forgiveness. As a community of learners the staff, Governors, and children continually reflect on our standards and achievements and then strive to reach even greater heights. If you are a child you can expect to be supported and challenged to be the best you can be. If you are a parent you can expect to be asked to instill a good attitude to learning by your example to your child. As a member of staff, you can expect to be supported and developed in your role so that you can focus all your energies on improving your practice to achieve the highest possible standards for all children. As a Governor you will be expected to ensure that the school is doing all it can to achieve the best outcomes for all children. Our motto is ‘To Love and To Serve’ and as a school, we will do all we can to love and serve each other and God through our work and our play. The school’s educational program is intentionally directed at the growth of the whole person: to develop pupils who can accept responsibility, whose lives reflect Christian values, and who recognize knowledge is important but its chief value is in giving service to others. We aim to create a Christian Community in our school whose values are communicated through love and sincere relationships between all its members, a community in which each person can develop his or her human potential as fully as possible with a view to a personal commitment to Christ. The school recognizes that it can achieve its aims only in partnership with parents who are the first and foremost educators of the child. St Thomas of Canterbury is a Voluntary Aided Catholic Primary School in the diocese of Southwark. The school exists primarily to serve the Catholic community however, the Governing Body welcomes applications, subject to availability, of places from non-catholic families who support the religious ethos of the school. The responsibility for the admission of pupils rests with the Governors who are the admitting authority. After consulting with the Local Authority the Governors tend to admit 90 pupils to the Reception class at the beginning of the school year which starts in September. In Nursery, children may be admitted the term after their third birthday. We have three intakes September, January, and April. Children will be allocated a part-time place which will be either a morning or afternoon session. Applications need to be made directly to the school. Children will be admitted for full-time schooling at the beginning of the academic year in which they become of statutory school age (five years old). Where an application place for Reception is successful, parents/carers are invited to meet the Headteacher and staff in the Summer term and a carefully planned transition program is implemented. Applications should be made to Merton Local Authority and directly to the school. For in-year admissions, where places are available, parents and carers should initially contact the school to arrange a visit. Applications should be made directly to Merton Local Authority and the school. St Thomas of Canterbury Primary school encourages the participation and inclusion of all children regardless of their needs and abilities. Teachers provide a rich, balanced and differentiated curriculum to ensure that all our pupils fulfill their full potential. The school draws upon the support of the Inclusion Manager, Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Integrated Service from Merton and other outside agencies to ensure pupils receive the best provision possible. The school values the key role parents play in the education of their children and ensure that parents are involved in any decisions made regarding the needs of their children. The Designated Safeguarding Leads will strive to ensure that children are safe, happy, and making progress. They also provide support to staff members to carry out their safeguarding duties. Everyone who comes into contact with children and their families has a role to play in safeguarding children. School staff is particularly important as they are in a position to identify concerns early and provide help for children, to prevent concerns from escalating. Schools and their staff form part of the wider safeguarding system for children. This system is described in statutory guidance “Working Together to Safeguard Children 2015”. Schools work with social care, the police, health services, and other services to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm. Parents are encouraged to share their concerns and celebrate their children’s success with all members of staff. We recognize that there may be times when parents would like to discuss matters outside of the scheduled parent–teacher consultations. The school has a procedure in place for when parents have concerns. In the first instance, parents are asked to approach their child’s class teacher to arrange an appointment to discuss their concerns. If, after some time, parents feel that their concerns have not been fully addressed, they may call the school to arrange an appointment with the phase leader directly.
  24. As a Catholic school, our core aims are to nourish an ethos based on Gospel values of Love, Wisdom, Integrity, Justice, and Compassion, and to develop a community that is welcoming, caring, and inclusive. As a Catholic School, we describe our key mission as follows: “to develop as a community of faith and learning, providing the highest quality of education and supporting the formation of each young person through the promotion of Gospel values”. To achieve these aims for our school community we need the support of our parents. Only by working together can we ensure that all the young people in our school community achieve their maximum potential. St Thomas Aquinas RC Secondary is a Roman Catholic, co-educational, secondary school based in the West End of Glasgow. With the largest catchment area of any school in Glasgow, it is no surprise we serve a very diverse set of local communities from Drumchapel through Knightswood, Scotstoun, Partick, and into the city center. The continued success of St Thomas Aquinas RC Secondary School is supported by a very committed teaching staff led by an experienced senior leadership team. Language and literacy are of personal, social, and economic importance. Your ability to use language lies at the center of the development and expression of your emotions, thinking, learning, and sense of personal identity. This course allows you to develop skills in listening, talking, reading, and writing, which is essential for learning, life, and work. You will develop your ability to communicate your thoughts and feelings and respond to those of other people. The skills that you develop in English are useful in a wide range of careers these include teaching, editorial, journalism, administration, legal work, or in the arts. The school library contributes to educational attainment and skills for life by providing a welcoming and well-organized environment, in which staff can teach, pupils can learn, and reading for pleasure can be enjoyed by all. The librarian, Miss Sferrazzo, is on hand three days a week to ensure that staff and pupils get the most out of their visits.
  25. St Thomas More Catholic School is a mixed, independent Academy within the Cardinal Hume Academies Trust. Last year’s GCSE results were once again the best in Haringey a testimony to the hard work and commitment of students. St Thomas More is an outstanding school, as reflected in our recent Ofsted inspection and Section 48 Westminster Diocesan inspection. We have been commended by the Department for Education on several occasions for our excellent GCSE performance, most recently in February 2015 for being one of the top 100 non-selective state-funded schools in England based on the Key Stage 2 – Key Stage 4 value-added measure. We are very proud of the success of our motivated students. St Thomas More School Mission: "To lead those in our care to grow in their faith and to benefit from an enriching education". St Thomas More Catholic School Vision: An Outstanding School An inclusive school where gospel values underpin a caring and supporting ethos, manifest in care for each individual. A well-organized and resourced school, providing first-class learning resources and facilities for an all-through 11-19 education. Consistently the highest achieving comprehensive school in Haringey at GCSE and A-Level. A school where students exhibit excellent standards of behavior, smartness, self-reliance, punctuality, and politeness. A 'healthy school' providing for the Every Child Matters outcomes with facilities and programs to optimize community welfare. An institution where people are proud to work providing good opportunities and facilities for Continuing Professional Development. An 'Investor in People' Gold and a good employer. A school at the heart of the local community: committed to the community, providing a wide range of courses and facilities but having the reputation of an 'academic' school. We believe that the true purpose of our work is to create, in all our communities, and ethos in which everyone is inspired by the example of Christ. The children in our care are encouraged to fully engage in their relationship with God, helping them grow as individuals who fully understand their vocation in life. One cannot reach one’s full human potential without exploring the issues of faith that lie at the heart of one’s being. The Governing Body recognizes that some of our pupils have learning difficulties and special educational needs. We do our best within the limit of our resources to identify those pupils and tailor our provision to provide for them. We do our best to ensure that the opportunities available to those with special needs are the same as for pupils who do not have special needs. The school would like to admit more pupils with disabilities and now has a lift. However, not all of the building is accessible given that much of the premises is on different levels and part is a listed building. "The curriculum provides a good blend of vocational and academic courses. Students' achievements in the main school are outstanding". We have continued to develop our whole school literacy strategies to develop pupils' vocabularies and embed a love for reading. We have strived to put a real emphasis on pupils' acknowledgment and understanding of the Word of the Day and encourage teachers to use the words frequently and effectively in their lessons. KS3 pupils participate in literacy-focused activities throughout the week during form time, which includes twenty minutes of silent reading and a Words of the Week spelling and definitions test. Year 7/8 pupils have also continued to enjoy the school's Drop Everything and Read sessions where they are asked to stop what they are doing in their ordinary lessons and read, for 20 minutes, once a week. The Sixth Form at St Thomas More is a vibrant and innovative environment for learning. Students are offered a wide variety of BTEC National, AS, and A2 level subjects. We are very proud that each year many students are successful in gaining admission to Universities and Colleges of Higher Education, as well as to professional and vocational establishments.
