- A large number of Indians who were working in Salalah had been compelled to leave their families behind because there was no means of providing education to their children here. It was a long-cherished dream for the Indian expatriate community of Salalah to establish a community school in this city. Prominent members of the Indian Community took up the initiative and the dream became a reality when Indian School Salalah opened on 11th July 1981. Many families were re-united and children got the opportunity to grow under the guidance, love, and care of both their parents. Thus, besides providing education, the school fulfilled a deeply felt social and emotional need. Initially, it started functioning under the auspices of the Indian Club in their premises near the Al Hasn Palace. In the first year 1981-82, there were just 74 students and classes from LKG to IV. Later the school was shifted to a rented building in New Salalah for a short period till a part of the present building was constructed. At present, the school has around 4400 students on its rolls. It has classes from LKG to XII and these classes run into several sections the total of which is 112. There are 168 teachers, 19 non-teaching staff, and 28 Omani staff members serving the institution. The school management, administration, teaching, and non-teaching will continue striving hard with utmost sincerity and dedication to take the school to further heights. "Education" word conjures up different things in the minds of different people for it depends usually on what they have entitled that for life. Education is that fine line beyond which the horizon stretches holding all the potential of growth. To learn, to be guided, and to be open to each experience and extract the best and leave out the rest and strike on – that is the essence we seek to infuse in the students of our school. The overall development of the body-mind and souls is the mission. The approach is child-centric because we believe that every child has his/her individuality. The culture of the school and vision of the school and the teacher's way of life will imbibe the development of the five minds among the students. The curriculum will not be textbook-driven or fragmented but will be thematic, project-based, and integrated, skills and context shall not be taught as an end in themselves, but students shall learn them through their research and application in their projects. Textbooks shall be just one of the many resources. Students will be motivated to achieve higher levels of learning in all content areas from science to maths, environment to culture, and nutrition. The school and the community shall have a unidirectional approach in making the school in which the students – all of them are so excited about the school that they can hardly wait to get there. Imagine having little or no "discipline problem" because the students are so engaged in their studies that those problems disappear. Imagine having parents calling, sending notes, and coming up to the school to tell you about the dramatic changes they are witnessing in their children's newfound enthusiasm and excitement for school, a desire to work. Imagine your children making exponential growth in their basic skills of reading, writing, speaking, listening, researching, scientific exploration, maths, multimedia skills, and more. This is possible. It can happen it is happening in schools. It only requires the school and community to come together. View full school
- The British School Salalah is a small, nonprofit community school gifted to the British community in Salalah in the 1970s by the Sultan of Oman. It began its life as a few huts on the beach built to educate the children of the British Military who were posted in Salalah in the 1980s and, over time, has blossomed into a school that educates 105 children of many different nationalities on a purpose-built site in Dahariz. The school is run by a Board of Governors made up of parents, teachers, and influential professional members of the community in Salalah. The Head Teacher, however, is in charge of the day-to-day running of the school and all matters about the curriculum and assessment, supported by a dedicated team of teachers and administration staff. Key to our success is the small classes in which traditional high expectations are combined with modern teaching methods, ensuring each student achieves the best possible results according to his or her abilities and talents. Beyond the classroom, life at the British School is exciting and fulfilling. Our many and varied extracurricular opportunities offer children the chance to gain confidence in whichever area they discover their interests lie. We believe strongly in Education Outside the Classroom and in ensuring, as the great man Aristotle once philosophized, that we educate the hearts of our students and not just their minds. We are a nonprofit, nonselective, coeducational, British day school located in Dahariz, Salalah. We care about our community and each other and know our students and families personally, enabling positive working relationships. We are a welcoming, open, friendly school with children from a variety of backgrounds, countries, and cultures. The children interact well together and form genuine friendships without borders. The vision of British School Salalah is to empower happy, lifelong learners who are independent, confident, and successful. The British School Salalah provides an inclusive learning experience through the National Curriculum of England and Wales that encourages students to be successful and confident individuals with a global perspective. We take a holistic attitude to education, ensuring that each child is healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged both within and outside of the classroom. We believe a child who is valued and helped will achieve his or her personal best. We are committed to the principles of inclusion and equality of opportunity. The efforts and achievements of the children are valuable and celebrated by the whole school. This is true for parents, students, and teachers alike. We view learning as an enjoyable experience, and we believe that every child can improve and progress. We expect our parents to be fully engaged in the learning process. From the gentle introduction to learning that is provided by our Bananas Nursery Programme through to the steps taken towards independence in Years 7, 8, and 9, the British School Salalah curriculum provides its students with a varied approach to learning that builds on each child’s strengths while, at the same time, pulling the whole school together in a bond of mutual respect and collaboration. The National Curriculum of England and Wales is based on a structured and broad framework that outlines expected levels of achievement for the duration of the children’s education and provides a regular program of assessment and evaluation. We maintain a high standard of education, based on the National Curriculum of England & Wales. We believe in teaching the individual child and differentiation within the classroom which means that your child will receive the best out of his or her education. Significantly smaller class sizes are proven to improve academic achievement and ensures that we meet each child's individual needs. At the British School Salalah, we ensure that our class sizes remain small. All of our teachers are fully qualified, native English speakers who know the curriculum, the subject matter, and the teaching practice and principles of the school. Our children are encouraged to learn and develop outside the classroom through our EOTC program which includes a wide range of after-school activities, school trips, and overnight stays.
