      About Me

      1. Every day in school is focused on learning and developing a love of learning. We hope our website will provide you with a flavor of the many wonderful opportunities and experiences offered in our school, and also give you the information needed to support your child’s educational journey. We are a Catholic Primary School in the heart of Kingsbury, clear in our beliefs and values, and the importance of Jesus Christ in our daily lives. Our Mission Statement underpins all we do: “Following Jesus’ footsteps, and inspired by St Robert Southwell, we work hard, aim high and treat everyone with honesty and gentleness” Our school is a thriving community that is well supported by parents and the Parish. There are many opportunities for us to work and celebrate together, including assemblies, concerts, coffee mornings, curriculum workshops, and fundraising events. We are immensely proud of our school and our very hardworking, enthusiastic children, with their wide range of individual talents. We are blessed to have extremely hardworking and committed staff who are ambitious for all our children and are wholly committed to achieving excellence for every one of our children, by providing the best learning opportunities each day. It is a tremendous privilege to lead such a wonderful community and to be part of your children’s learning journey, and work with you in preparing them for their future. At St Robert Southwell, Learning is central to all we do and is our core purpose. We approach learning in exciting, enriching, and creative ways, to engage, inspire and enthuse our children. We believe the curriculum should be relevant to children’s life experiences should inspire and engage them in their learning, while enabling them to work collaboratively using their imaginations. The aim of our curriculum is for pupils to have the requisite skills to be successful, independent, and motivated learners, in readiness for their next stage of education. In September 2016 we launched our ‘Creative Curriculum’ which is planned around the development of knowledge, skills, and understanding using content from the National Curriculum, under broad and engaging themes. The purpose of our Creative Curriculum is to ignite curiosity, nurture fascination and imagination while developing skills and providing a knowledge base for our children. Our Creative Curriculum has English and Maths at its core links are made to ensure children are engaged, motivated, and stimulated in all areas of their learning and subsequently make progress across the board. The general aims of our school are: To help and complement the exercise of the educational rights and duties of the R C family to cultivate the intellectual, creative, and aesthetic values of the child to help the child develop a lively enquiring mind, the ability to acquire information and to question and argue rationally, and the will to apply themselves to tasks and physical skills To help children develop the ability to make correct use of their judgment, will, and emotions To promote in the child a sense of values To encourage just attitudes and inner discipline To develop the children’s knowledge of their own culture and the culture and background of others, so that there will be a mutual understanding between people whatever their race, religion, and ways of life To help children understand the environment in which we live and the interdependence of the individual groups and nations To help children appreciate human achievements and aspirations in art, music, science, and technology To help children acquire knowledge and skills relevant to adult life at home, at work, and leisure. For the achievement of these aims St. Robert Southwell School strives: To provide a stable, caring environment conducive to study and learning in an atmosphere in which the love of God is shown in all aspects of school life To directly instruct children in the Roman R C Faith and to support the parish in preparing children for the reception of the sacraments To provide a wide curriculum that will develop the intellectual and physical skills of the child and enable them to use their particular abilities, talents, and interests to the full To give good emphasis to the skills of numeracy and literacy to seek close co-operation from parents so that the values taught and respected at home and school are the same To encourage the child to play a full part in parish life by contributing to parish worship and parish projects To recognize that the child is living NOW and not just for the future and that children should be happy now, purposeful, and able to contribute to the society around them now. 2. Robert Clack School opened in 1955 and was named after the man who was Mayor of the Borough of Dagenham from 1940 to 1942. Alderman Robert Clack was rightly known as a fighter for social justice, someone who cared passionately about the people of Dagenham and worked tirelessly to secure better outcomes for them his values and principles permeate the ethos of our school to this very day. Robert James Daniel Clack was born in 1901 in Bromley-by-Bow. He worked as a railwayman before becoming involved in local politics. From 1931 to 1934, he was an officer in the Bow branch of the National Union of Railwaymen and in 1933 he was President of the Dagenham Trades and Labour Council. The following year he was chairman of the Dagenham Ward Labour Party and was elected to Dagenham Council. Dagenham was then an Urban District Council but became a Borough Council in 1938. Robert lived with his wife and family on Moss Road, in Dagenham, and was appointed mayor of the borough in 1940. He was so popular that he was elected to a second term, until 1942. Robert died in 1953. At Robert Clack Sixth Form we pride ourselves on our ability to deliver a first-class post-16 education to all of our pupils. We offer courses to cater to a wide variety of interests and aspirations. We have a proven track record of working with pupils to secure places at a range of universities (including Oxford, Cambridge, and Russell Group) to study a wide variety of different subjects (including highly competitive courses such as Medicine, Law, Dentistry, and Veterinary Science). Pupils also progress to employment and apprenticeships including at international firms in the City of London. We aim to provide an outstanding holistic education that will ensure the young people of the Robert Clack School community are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and attributes necessary to fulfill their potential and make a valuable contribution to society. Our ethos reflects the values of Alderman Robert Clack, the former Mayor of Dagenham after whom our school was named when it opened in 1955. He was recognized as a fighter for social justice and worked tirelessly to advance the life chances of the people of Dagenham. His values continue to permeate our school ethos today, which is summarised perfectly by the maxim: 'Excellence for all excellence from all'. We strive for excellence in all that we do in the Robert Clack School community to equip our pupils with the knowledge, skills, and attributes necessary to fulfill their potential and make a valuable contribution to society. Teaching expertise and experience allows our pupils to excel in all of the subjects that we offer, as our 2017 results show. These can be found on the ‘Results and Destinations’ page. We are proud to help pupils progress to their desired university, apprenticeship, or employment destinations after Sixth Form. Also included on the ‘Results and Destinations’ page are the 2017 University places that our pupils secured this September. Our pupils have access to a broad and balanced curriculum of A-level and vocational subjects, combined with extensive enrichment and personal development opportunities. All staff regularly receive training and updates around safeguarding policy, practice, and current issues. This allows us to make sure we meet our responsibility to ensure that children are happy and safe. To support this, children are encouraged to report any concerns through our pastoral systems. We use assemblies and various elements of the curriculum to make children aware of various issues related to safeguarding. At Robert Clack we are fortunate to have an experienced counselor in school twice a week, holding timetabled sessions in the morning and a drop-in session one lunchtime. All sessions are confidential and students are referred based on their needs.CAMHS School Counselling is for any young person who's having problems, whether it's depression and mental health concerns or issues with parents or people at school. Students can expect to be helped by a supportive and non-judgmental counselor who is a BACP registered and trained in, amongst other training, Children and Young People Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (CYP-IAPT) models. Many of our young clients tell us that they feel happier after they see the school counselor and are better able to deal with their problems. In some cases, the CAMHS school counselor helped them to concentrate better at school, or get on better with their friends and family. The school counselor can liaise with other professionals to support the young person where appropriate. The young person can be referred by a teacher or can ask to see a counselor. The counselor is available for drop-ins during lunchtime. What is discussed is confidential, unless the counselor is worried for the young person’s safety. The School counselor follows school protection procedures and works closely with the school to ensure all safeguarding procedures are responded to effectively. We are passionate about ensuring that we support students to be mindful and aware. Mindfulness involves learning to direct our attention to our experiences as they unfold, moment by moment, with open-minded curiosity and acceptance. Rather than worrying about what has happened or what might happen. It trains us to respond skilfully to whatever is happening right now, be that good or bad. Well-conducted mindfulness interventions are capable of addressing the problems of the young people who take part, and improve their wellbeing, reduce worries, anxiety, distress, reactivity, and bad behavior, improve sleep, self-esteem, and bring about greater calmness, relaxation, and self-regulation and awareness. Robert Clack School has been selected to take part in an exciting opportunity and partnership with the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Oxford. The school will be involved in research that will investigate how schools prepare young people to improve resilience and manage their emotional health. The research will take 3 years and will involve our current year 7 and 8 cohorts. The research will support a wider understanding of the impact of mindfulness on young people. Today in our society, e-safety is a crucial part of children’s education. Although the digital world supports your child’s learning, we would like you, as parents, to support your child with the issues faced in the online world and how to protect themselves in the digital world. Cyberbullying is as offensive as being bullied physically, but the difference is that it’s being done through digital devices. Examples include bullying taking place over social media sites and text messages using mobile phones. A recent nationwide survey revealed that 55% of children have received hurtful comments online with 18% experiencing cyberbullying and the problem is growing. View full school
      3. Robert Blair School and Children’s Centre is nestled in the heart of Islington in the vibrant area of the Caledonian Road between Kings Cross and Angel. We have high expectations of the whole school community in terms of progress and achievement, behavior, and engagement to make our children ready for the next stage of their education, and to prepare them to contribute to British society. We work hard to remove barriers to learning. Creativity has a high priority. It is a process that requires both freedom to experiment and the use of skills, knowledge, and understanding. It is a vehicle to develop self-esteem, confidence, and engagement both with the curriculum and with the ever-changing world that our children are living in. Robert Blair Primary School, an inclusive learning community where: Expectations are high Individuals are nurtured Creativity is valued Our key priority this year is to improve teaching to accelerate progress and raise attainment further by making sure that: Pupils have more regular opportunities to read challenging texts and other materials in subjects other than English Activities in reading lessons are always purposeful and support the ongoing development of the full range of pupils’ reading skills We use a topic-based approach to the delivery of the curriculum linking learning and core skills in a way that will capture the children’s interest. Trips are strongly encouraged. It is expected that every class has a school trip once per half term many have much more than that. We are very well placed to access all the potential that London can offer about museums, galleries, and exhibitions. The school also employs specialist sports coaches and an environmental officer. We follow the national curriculum to provide a broad and balanced curriculum that promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental, and physical development of pupils and prepares them for the opportunities, responsibilities, and experiences of later life. Our themed approach enables whole phase topic enrichment ensuring that key skills in reading, writing, maths science and the arts are taught in a way which motivates and engages the children". The EYFS curriculum is organized into six areas of learning: personal, social, and emotional development communication, language and literacy mathematical development knowledge and understanding of the world physical development, and creative development. At Robert Blair Primary School we have the highest possible expectations for all our children. We aim to provide a happy, caring, and safe environment that stimulates children’s natural curiosity and allows them to develop their skills, knowledge, and understanding. We want children to develop independence, co-operate with others and communicate in a range of situations whilst learning the skills needed to progress through school and future life. Great emphasis and importance are placed on the environment which reflects the EYFS topic each half term and is designed to entice the children to participate in a range of learning activities. We follow the EYFS statutory framework and use ‘Development Matters’ which supports the implementation of the statutory framework by outlining the characteristics of effective learning and how best to promote these in an Early Years setting. Our school embraces the 16 ‘Habits of Mind’ as a way of clarifying educational aspirations and targets for our pupils. They provide a framework and common language for students, to share when discussing and planning for the development of our thinking. Cooking in the Curriculum - Every child has the opportunity to cook at least once a term. Basic Skills - We place a strong emphasis on the development of basic skills – skills that are necessary for lifelong learning. We have ‘non-negotiable’ basic skills that are taught and expected to be applied. Phonics - Children have daily phonics lessons until they are secure in their knowledge. Robert Blair Primary School is committed to meeting the needs of all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). We will do our best to make sure that a pupil with SEND gets the support and provision they need. View full school
      4. Robert Land Academy's private boarding school has over 40 years of success working with boys to achieve their potential and gain admission to post-secondary programs. Our program has a proven track record in providing benefits for boys diagnosed with or exhibiting characteristics of ADD/ADHD/ODD/NLD/NVLD and other Learning Disabilities, as well as for boys who benefit from a structured distraction-free environment. We provide a structured private boarding school program with an emphasis on academic remediation, university admission, and the development of the self-care, self-discipline, and self-direction required for successful adulthood. At our boarding school in Ontario, Canada, our rural location is removed from an urban setting's distractions. We provide a distraction-free environment with no cell phones, computer games, personal laptops, personal computer access, Facebook, and girlfriends. Robert Land Academy offers a physical activity program that promotes a healthy lifestyle and personal growth. Team sports promote working together and the development of personal life skills. Nutritionally balanced and healthy meals are provided—an emphasis on regular self-care and routine. The vast majority of all students experience a dramatic improvement in their academic performance and success within the first semester. Students in modified academics are encouraged and assisted in moving back into mainstream academic courses. Over the past decade, 100% of the graduating class applicants have been accepted to a university or college. The military theme of the Robert Land Academy military school for boys is the foundation of its structured and disciplined learning and living community. Value-based expectations for proper conduct, with clearly defined rules and roles, have their objective, accepting responsibility for personal choice and the development of rational thought. With a focus on the development of mind, body, and character, the Academy addresses the boy's needs as a whole to actualize his potential by gaining mastery over himself. Robert Land Academy utilizes a military model to reinforce the importance of structure, discipline, accountability, and self-determination. The demanding intellectual and physical challenges are accompanied by training support and encouragement to help each student develop self-confidence and self-worth through genuine achievement. The highly structured environment at Robert Land Academy is intended to support and encourage boys to reach their potential. Responsibility and accountability are stressed as a means of producing the realization that each action has consequences. Boys who do not behave appropriately are subject to discipline that includes physical exercise and loss of privileges. More severe issues can result in loss of rank, loss of weekend leaves, or labor duties around the Academy. The program's purpose is to help boys help themselves become the best that they can be, whether this is in the context of preparing to do an assignment in mathematics or practicing for the upcoming basketball game. Our goal is to stimulate the growth of a sense of responsibility and self-determination and, by so doing, prepare each boy for a fulfilled, productive and happy adulthood. Boys are admitted to Robert Land Academy military school based upon our assessment of their potential for success. The majority of our boys have experienced some level of difficulty related to attitude, concentration, focus, respect for authority, or respect for themselves. A significant portion of them has been described as being ADD, ADHD, ODD, or some other form of Learning Disability. An overwhelming majority of our students experience a dramatic improvement in their academic performance and success within the first semester of enrolment. Over the past decade, 100 percent of the graduates who applied to the college or university were accepted. In addition to improved academic performance, the average boy's health and fitness level are greatly improved through diet, exercise, and activity. Weight issues, low physical fitness levels, and general lethargy are positively addressed through mandatory participation in all aspects of the program. Improved physical fitness contributes to a more positive outlook on life, greater self-confidence, and higher energy levels. These combined with concentrated remediation and structured mandatory study halls results in a new chance for success. Robert Land Academy is a school for troubled youth located near Toronto, Ontario. We offer a structured learning and living environment that focuses on boys' needs with behavioral issues that may not be achieving success in the traditional school system. At Robert Land Academy, the academic program is combined with high physical activity levels, authentic leadership, coaching, and supervision. Our program has shown itself to have significant success in dealing with troubled boys who are not working to their full potential or who have been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), and other Learning Disabilities (LD). With a focus on the development of mind, body, and character, our school addresses the boy's needs as a whole to actualize his potential by gaining mastery over himself. Robert Land Academy utilizes a military model to reinforce the importance of structure, discipline, accountability, and self-determination for these troubled youths. An overwhelming majority of our students experience a dramatic improvement in their academic performance and success within the first semester of enrollment. Over the past decade, 100 percent of the graduates who applied to the college or university were accepted. Robert Land Academy military school is organized into three divisions - or companies - each corresponding to Junior (Grades 5, 6, 7 & 8), Intermediate (Grades 9 & 10), and Senior (Grades 11 & 12) Divisions. Each company is structured around specific developmental priorities relative to age and grade level. Whereas each company has a particular focus, the program as a whole is united by a common philosophy and method. Academic and athletic success requires coaching to ensure a continuum between effort and achievement.

      17. 19. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) is one of the most important bodies for safeguarding public health in Germany. As a leading institution of the government in biomedicine, it plays a significant role in the prevention and combating of infectious diseases and the analysis of long-term public health trends in the German health system. Research and prevention of infections is a classic field of work for the RKI. For example, its scientists research the molecular properties and transmission modes of all groups of pathogens, including bacteria and viruses and fungi, parasites, and prions like the BSE pathogen. Besides, the RKI, according to the infection protection act, records and analyses data on the occurrence of numerous infectious diseases throughout Germany. The RKI is its advisory role towards the federal government, state and local health authorities, and medical specialists. For example, the institute develops recommendations for the vaccination of children and hygiene measures in hospitals. The RKI provides expert teams to help in investigations of regional epidemic outbreaks and collaborates with other authorities and experts to draw up epidemic emergency plans for extraordinary scenarios such as a worldwide influenza pandemic. National reference centers and consultant laboratories for various bacterial and viral diseases are also located at the RKI. They serve as central contact points for the identification and protection against diseases. The RKI also functions as a virtual interface in numerous international co-operative projects. The RKI has its headquarters and two additional locations in Berlin and a branch in Wernigerode in the Harz region. Its staff of around 1,080 includes approximately 450 scientists, including Ph.D. students and trainees. The Robert Koch Institute regularly seeks third-party funding for its research projects. Specific scientific issues are investigated in project groups. Young researchers have the opportunity to raise their profile in the scope of junior research groups. An internal institutional research board and an external scientific advisory council continuously monitor the scientific work quality. The Robert Koch Institute is Germany's public health institute. Our mission is to protect and improve the health of the population. To this end, 1,100 individuals from 90 different occupational fields work and conduct research together at RKI every day. We produce evidence. Scientific questions change – and as they do, the methods with which data on health and disease can be collected and interpreted change. As well as state-of-the-art approaches, we continually develop new ways of tackling issues in fields like digital epidemiology, artificial intelligence, and targeted group-specific communication. Because good results and recommendations are dependent on high-quality data, our scientific activities and infrastructure are regularly evaluated both internally and externally. We assume responsibility on a global scale. Health crises like the Ebola virus disease outbreak in West Africa can only be tackled in cooperation with the countries affected. We provide expertise and resources to assist and support partner countries and better prepare for crises. Besides, the Robert Koch Institute works closely with the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), as well as coordinating a raft of international research projects. Our institute is open to all people, irrespective of their origin, religious belief, and gender identity. We work autonomously, independently, and transparently. We implement legal provisions on data protection, biosafety, genetic engineering safety, and animal protection. We place great emphasis on observing the rules of good scientific practice and dealing responsibly with research risks. As a higher federal authority within the remit of the Federal Ministry of Health, RKI is not dependent on funding from industry. Conflicts of interest and research projects that are not publicly funded are appropriately declared as such. The world is changing – we are changing, too. Founded in 1891, the Robert Koch Institute is one of the world's oldest biomedical research institutes. It is part of the institute's ethos to recognize and embrace new challenges, constantly scrutinize its approaches, and break new ground. Over the decades, this openness has enabled us to become what we are today: the institute for the health of the public. View full university
