      1. Preparing young men for the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow is something we only get the chance to do once, whether as teachers or as parents. By the time they leave us, many of the things that make them who they are – their beliefs, values, and sense of self – will already be forming, if not formed. It’s an enormous shared responsibility, and one that has particular significance within the special context of a boys’ school, given the many challenges young men growing up today will face. The question then is how best to prepare them for the changing world they will come to shape. At Whitgift, we believe the answer lies in knowing, valuing, and challenging every individual, stretching and supporting them in equal measure. Whitgift is unashamedly ambitious when it comes to academic performance, but we know results alone are not everything. To truly succeed, students need more than just knowledge. They will need the confidence and resilience to embrace new challenges, they will need an open mind that is global in its outlook, and they will need the emotional maturity and moral grounding to be a force for good in the communities they serve. We are incredibly proud of the young men who leave us and what they achieve. We are particularly proud they come from such a diverse range of backgrounds, thanks in part to the generous bursary and scholarship schemes we can offer. Indeed, alongside our academic philosophy, comprehensive pastoral support, and fantastic co-curricular program, the incredible mix of boys who come here is one of the things that makes Whitgift such a truly special place to learn. For more than 400 years, Whitgift has been transforming boys’ lives through education. Whitgift 2025 was created as a result of the input and imagination of staff and students and the next few years will represent an exciting time of evolution for the school, both in terms of our site development plan and the educational partnerships we are embarking on. Our overarching vision is: "Educating bright and talented young men, whatever their background, to become independent learners and thinkers, to achieve beyond what they believed they could, and to leave us ready to give back to the society in which they will be leaders." Please take a moment to hear more from our staff and students, as well as reading more about our plans. Whitgift School has a long and fascinating history. Many of the values of the founder, John Whitgift, are still felt at the heart of the School today. In March 1596, John Whitgift, Archbishop of Canterbury laid the foundation stones of his hospital at North End, Croydon for the poor. Attached to the hospital was a grammar school conducted by the chief official of the hospital – the schoolmaster and chaplain. The School, which opened in 1600, paved the way for the ‘Whitgift’ of today. Whitgift is a leading independent day and boarding school for boys aged 10 to 18 with an innovative Junior Years curriculum, strong academic focus, and broad co-curricular provision. We also offer full, weekly, and flexible boarding from the age of 13. View full school
      2. First and foremost Old Palace is a place of learning. For each girl who comes here, Old Palace will also be a key contributor in her development as a compassionate and capable individual, prepared to address the challenges presented to her as she makes her contribution to society. Every student enjoys a first-class academic education at Old Palace. We also promote a broader values-based education embracing four dimensions: service, skills and knowledge, courage, and emotional intelligence. With this approach, students learn about who they are and what they stand for. Old Palace is a unique school in an exceptional and inspiring setting steeped in history as recorded from 896. We identify, encourage, and nurture the special qualities of every individual entrusted to us. Our surroundings also stimulate girls to develop and flourish in ways beyond the reach of conventional education. For example, not every girls’ school in the country can boast the opportunity to sing cathedral repertoire every week in Croydon Minster, our next-door neighbor at Old Palace. Old Palace is blessed with magnificent buildings, enthusiastic, highly motivated staff, and a sound ethos of social awareness. For all who embrace the many opportunities presented, Old Palace will reward them with a happy, memorable, and empowering education. We aim to equip learners with the confidence, skills, and knowledge needed to lead independent, successful, and happy lives in an ever-changing world. We are committed to: Providing a safe, stimulating, and caring environment where each individual is empowered to gain a strong sense of self-worth and purpose through recognition of their talents and abilities as well as their contribution to the community. Placing the needs of the individual at the heart of our commitment to achieve the highest standards of learning and teaching, through extending individual aspirations and developing self-confidence, a love of scholarship, and independence of thought. Providing a creative, stimulating, and challenging curriculum that inspires and equips all to become independent life-long learners in a local, national and global community. Celebrating diversity and individuality within a culture of praise and encouragement that promotes well-being, happiness, and success. Developing, throughout the community, supportive and constructive relationships based on mutual respect and understanding, upholding the values and Christian ideals of our Founders. Working in partnership with all members of the community to promote clear and consistent expectations of behavior needed to foster learning for all, self-discipline, and a sense of personal responsibility. The School follows the guidelines issued by the Department for Education for the safeguarding of children in education. View full school
