  2. We do know it takes more than a textbook. More than a classroom. More than a body of like-minded students, all are striving to realize their aspirations and ambitions. However, it takes more than a professor willing to sacrifice time and care to give those students the resources they need to excel. It takes an entire college community to build the foundation from which we can attract students' caliber that USAO's mission and vision demand. We are proud to be the only public liberal arts college in Oklahoma. However, the time has come for a paradigm shift in how we seek out those hard-working students who will be unafraid to ask questions, consider answers, yearn to make a difference, discover, inspire, succeed, and most of all, embrace the opportunity for upward mobility. The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma is the state's public liberal arts college. Its mission is to provide the public with a distinctive and accessible liberal arts and sciences education. In combining an interdisciplinary core curriculum with superior instruction in significant study fields, USAO aims to provide a thorough education that prepares students for meaningful, purposeful lives. Our core curriculum remains as innovative today as when it was created half a century ago. The team-teaching model compels students to integrate knowledge from across academic fields while wrestling with the 'big questions' of the human experience. The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma strives to recruit creative, intelligent, and driven students who will make a great addition to the University, as well as take advantage of a liberal arts education. We understand that many different factors might make someone an outstanding student at our University, and our application process reflects this. USAO uses a combination of different qualities to assess each individual for admission. Celebrating a century of service as Oklahoma's only public liberal arts college, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma – nationally ranked for quality and value – is a recognized leader and innovator in interdisciplinary studies. Like the best private liberal arts colleges, USAO offers small classes, award-winning faculty committed to teaching (91 percent have the terminal degree), and a campus culture that fosters close faculty-student interaction and undergraduate research opportunities. USAO dedicates itself to educating the whole student, encourages personal development through public service, and offers nationally ranked teams in five sports. The college was founded in 1908 as a women's institution, Oklahoma College for Women (OCW), the first college created by Oklahoma's first legislature. USAO is one of only seven state institutions with similar missions ever created in the United States. Other than the University of Oklahoma, USAO has the oldest original mission of any state college or University in Oklahoma. Located in Chickasha, USAO is the only Oklahoma college named a National Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places.
  3. Founded in 1890, the University of Oklahoma is a public research university located in Norman, Oklahoma, just 20 mins. South of Oklahoma City. OU's Norman undergraduate population is slightly more than 20,000, giving students a significant university experience in a private college atmosphere. With three campuses in Oklahoma, OU also offers study abroad opportunities at several locations and OU campuses overseas. Our mission is "To enhance OU's commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, recognize and respect the essential worth of each individual and value differences amongst groups. We commit to building a welcoming and supportive campus environment where each feels welcomed, valued, and supported for success. " Our vision is "To become the leading voice in inclusive excellence." We aspire to be the pacesetter institution in our commitment to building and maintaining a diverse and inclusive community where diversity is embraced, celebrated. Equity and inclusion are weaved into the fabric of our university community. The Office of University Community will continue to be the point of contact and arbiter of engagement, discourse, information, interaction, outreach, and leadership in the mission of diversity and inclusivity at the University of Oklahoma. OU has three campuses in Oklahoma and centers in Arezzo, Italy, Puebla, Mexico, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Many of our degree programs are ranked best in the nation and provide real-world experiences for students. In fact, not only is OU home to the National Weather Center and world-renowned research, but students can begin working with researchers as early as their freshman year. One of the most significant opportunities for Sooners lies outside the campus. We are deeply passionate about developing open-minded citizens and leaders through global education. Sooners are using technology that will set them apart in the job market after graduation. With iPad programs, inexpensive textbook options, technology playgrounds, and more, OU students can do more than they ever have before. The Princeton Review ranks OU among the best in the nation in terms of academic excellence and students' cost. As one of the most affordable universities in the Big 12 and the country, OU is consistently ranked in the 100 Best College Buys by Institutional Research & Evaluation. With over $285 million in gifts and pledges as part of the Campaign for Scholarships, OU has been able to more than double private scholarships. Graduate students at the University of Oklahoma have earned at least a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited university and plan to pursue an advanced degree or a graduate certificate. Students who apply for graduate admission are seeking admission to their chosen academic unit and the Graduate College. Admission to graduate programs at the University of Oklahoma is a collaborative effort between the academic disciplines, the Graduate College, and the Office of Graduate Admissions. Admission is based on an evaluation of an applicant's overall record, experience, personal qualifications, proposed specialization, and an assessment of the likelihood that an applicant will succeed in, and benefit from, a particular academic program. The Graduate Dean governs admission and enrollment in the Graduate College, utilizing the academic units' recommendations. It is the Office of Graduate Admissions' purview to admit students to the University who are approved by both the graduate academic unit and the Graduate College. The Sooner Family embodies compassion, honesty, fairness, and civility. No matter your interests, with over 400 organizations, memorable campus events, incredible athletics programs, and Sooners from all backgrounds, there's something here for you. Our main campus is very walkable, and we take much pride in its beauty. We're also part of a close-knit community in Norman, OK, and only 20 minutes away from a growing Oklahoma City. When OU's first president David Ross Boyd stepped off the train in Norman, Oklahoma, in 1892, he was greeted with a barren expanse of prairie, no tree in sight. His only remark at this sight was, "What possibilities!" At the University of Oklahoma, we have that same spirit: anything can grow if you have the drive to make it so. The University of Oklahoma is truly an extraordinary institution known for its academic excellence and a strong sense of community. Attracting top students from across the nation and more than 100 countries worldwide, OU provides a significant university experience in a private college atmosphere. OU is number one in the nation in the number of National Merit Scholars enrolled among public universities and is in the top ten of public universities in the nation in the graduation of Rhodes Scholars. The OU Honors College is one of the most extensive honors programs among public universities in the United States, matching the University's best and brightest students with faculty in classrooms of 19 or fewer students. OU is one of the few public universities in the nation to cap the class size of first-year English composition courses at no more than 19. OU offers students the opportunity to study abroad in over 100 cities and 50 countries, including our signature program in Arezzo, Italy. The number of endowed faculty professorships and chaired positions has increased from less than 100 15 years ago to more than 560 today. This enables OU to keep and attract faculty researchers of national and international stature. For four of the last six years, the OU Debate team has won the National Debate Championship. Other students from across campus have worked in teams to win top awards in the National Petroleum Engineering Competition, the National Kennedy Center Competition in Drama, and the entrepreneurship program consistently ranks in the top five nationally.

  5. An internationally prominent faculty, state-of-the-art facilities, and new technology combine to make the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center a leader in education, research, and patient care. One of only four comprehensive academic health centers in the nation with seven professional colleges – Allied Health, Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health, and Graduate Studies – the OU Health Sciences Center serves approximately 4,000 students in more than 70 undergraduate and graduate degree programs on campuses in Oklahoma City and Tulsa. Students and residents receive clinical training at on-site institutions, including the OU Medical Center, The Children's Hospital, and Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Also, affiliate training programs are maintained at hospitals and clinics throughout the state. The OUHSC strategic plan for research targets and builds upon existing research and clinical strengths to achieve a healthier future and a strong Oklahoma economy. The critical areas of research targeted are cancer, diabetes, neuroscience/vision, and infectious diseases/immunology. The OUHSC already had a solid core of basic and clinical researchers in these four areas, plus the state's most massive biomedical infrastructure. Through recruitment, the OUHSC continues to grow its ranks of top researchers. The Stephenson Cancer Center is the largest public-private biosciences initiative in state history and is Oklahoma's only comprehensive academic cancer center. The Cancer Center has become a nationally recognized leader in research and patient care, and Oklahomans no longer need to travel out of state to receive all-inclusive state-of-the-art care. The new 210,000-square-foot building is designed to meet the medical, emotional, and practical needs of patients and their families. Harold Hamm Diabetes Center is one of the top diabetes centers globally for adults and children with type 1 and types two diabetes and home to one of the world's largest groups of diabetes researchers. With operations at the center's facilities on OU's Oklahoma City and Tulsa campuses, as well as affiliated sites across the region, the center engages in novel research aimed at progress toward a cure for diabetes and its complications, providing improved patient care, and preventing the spread of diabetes through education and early detection. Research at the OU Health Sciences Center has led to the development of several Oklahoma companies, including Caisson Biotech, which just entered into a development and license agreement with Novo Nordisk, representing a total deal value of potentially $100 million, as well as Althaus, Biolytx, Inoveon, Nantiox, Pure Protein, and Selexys, located in the University Research Park. Other companies at the Research Park, such as Urocor, Charleston, and Genzyme, have closely associated with active research programs at the OU Health Sciences Center. The research enterprise at the OU Health Sciences Center also provides training for undergraduate and graduate students who will continue economic growth in the state. The Office of Student Financial Aid provides comprehensive information and services regarding opportunities to finance the cost of education at The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. We understand that financial assistance is key to helping you pursue your educational and career goals. Service Learning can involve a short project, requiring one or two class sessions, or it may be deeply embedded in the course's curriculum, extending through the entire semester. Service Learning may be a required component or an optional one. Service Learning projects can occur within our immediate Weatherford community, the county, the entire western and central Oklahoma region, or the state. They can also occur when a class on the SWOSU campus helps another campus entity design the Service Learning brochure. Our program has a rather broad definition of "community!. The Oklahoma Territorial Legislature Act established the University in 1901 as the Southwestern Normal School. The Normal School was authorized to offer two years of training and four years of preparatory work for students who were not qualified for college admission. The first classes met in 1903. In 1920 the preparatory or academy courses were eliminated, and two additional years of college work were added. The state legislature approved a change of name to Southwestern State Teachers College. The first baccalaureate degrees were awarded in May 1921. Other significant changes in name and purposes occurred in 1939 when the institution was designated as Southwestern State College of Diversified Occupations. In 1941, it became the Southwestern Institute of Technology when the college added a School of Pharmacy, degree work in the arts and sciences, and trade schools to its original function as a teacher-training institution. In 1953 the University inaugurated an advanced professional program leading to the Master of a Teaching degree, now called the Master of Education degree. In 1974 the Oklahoma State Legislature changed the institution's name to Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU). In addition to the M. Ed. degree in 16 different fields of specialization, SWOSU offers the Master of Business Administration, the M. S. degrees in Management and School Psychology, the Master of Music degree, and its first professional doctorate program, the Doctor of Pharmacy. On July 1, 1987, by an act of the Oklahoma Legislature, Sayre Junior College merged with Southwestern Oklahoma State University. This location, designated as Southwestern Oklahoma State University at Sayre, is 59 miles west of Weatherford.

A federal grant fully funds student Support Services (SSS) through the U.S. Department of Education and the TRiO program. Southeastern Oklahoma State University's SSS program is one of over 1200 programs across the country. SSS helps eligible students complete their post-secondary education by providing a foundation for overcoming academic, personal, and cultural barriers to higher education. By fostering a highly personalized (one-on-one) environment, SSS staff strives to build professional and personal relationships with students to assess their individual needs carefully and offer appropriate academic, personal, and career support. The University is linked by tradition to the geographic region of southeastern Oklahoma and north-central Texas. Although new programs have produced many changes in the geographic origin and the ethnic backgrounds of the student body, they are still primarily products of small towns and rural communities in Oklahoma and Texas. The present student body numbers approximately 4,000. Students are served at eight different locations, including a branch campus in McCurtain County.

Oklahoma Christian opens many doors to faith-infused learning at home and abroad. OC's location just 10 minutes from downtown Oklahoma City provides access to jobs and internships, plus big-city entertainment like the NBA's Oklahoma City Thunder. 14. OPSU is a baccalaureate degree-granting institution located in Goodwell, Oklahoma. The institution's general governance is in the hands of the Board of Regents for the Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical Colleges. Academic programs and financial support are authorized and coordinated through the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education. The mission of OPSU is to provide higher education primarily for people of the Oklahoma Panhandle and surrounding areas through academic programs, cultural enrichment, lifelong learning experiences, and public service activities. The educational experiences are designed to prepare students for agriculture, business, education, government, and industry and enrich their personal lives. Keeping with the spirit of our mission, "Progress Through Knowledge," we strive to be a university that is always progressing. Our commitment to truth, hard work, respect, and humility makes us family. With a future so bright, all you have to do is decide on a direction, make the commitment to work hard and we will get you there. Now that you are part of our family, people here will always be on your side and our campus will always be home, no matter where you go or what you do. OPSU's vision for the future is to build on its legacy of educational quality and service while addressing emerging challenges and opportunities. Oklahoma Panhandle State University is a four-year state university located in the Oklahoma Panhandle. OPSU's tuition and fees offer one of the most affordable choices compared with other U.S. universities. The OPSU campus is located in a small town where people are friendly, and the weather is dry and hot in the summer, cold in the winter with frequent snow, and windy almost year-round. Students who apply must be aware of the small-town environment and solitude of the Oklahoma Panhandle area. Students have said that they think it is hushed and peaceful, and this combination allows you much time to study. However, the environment can also make it difficult to find transportation and work on campus because it is such a small university. However, OPSU's small class sizes and one-on-one advising from instructors provide enormous advantages for many international students who may need more one-on-one time with their instructors to understand the coursework better. The International Students Office ventures to provide all international students with the assistance and counsel they need while attending Oklahoma Panhandle State University. Some of the services offered are orientation to campus and life in the U.S., immigration and visa, employment and practical training information, health concerns, and general academic planning. OPSU also entertains numerous social activities and opportunities. We are glad to help you with anything you might need! Comprised of three distinct colleges, Oklahoma Panhandle State University accepts a diverse collection of students from all educational backgrounds. The programs of study offered at OPSU lead to nearly 60 different baccalaureate and associate degrees. In addition to the baccalaureate opportunities, OPSU offers several pre-professional studies in selected fields. OPSU strives to enrich its student's lives educationally, personally, and socially. The hope that students matriculating at OPSU will receive lifelong learning experiences that meet their needs, personally and vocationally. During your college career, you will make many choices. One of those choices will be how you spend your time outside the classroom. The office of Student Affairs is your starting point to experience the full effect of what it means to be #WeArePanhandle. Whether it is assisting through the enrollment process, offering unique opportunities for your educational experience, or giving overall information for when, where, and how to be involved on campus, we are here for you. The educational experience at Oklahoma Panhandle State encompasses both classroom and extra-curricular learning opportunities where students can mature in a safe and candid environment. As a student, your active participation in a wide array of educational, cultural, recreational and social programs will determine the richness of your collegiate experience. Academic scholarships are available through the Deans of each school and the Financial Aid Office for first-time newcomers and transfer students. The scholarship application is built into the OPSU application for admission. You must have applied to OPSU to be eligible for an academic scholarship. OPSU makes every effort to make higher education affordable to all students. Once a student's financial need has been established, there are several ways the University can help. OPSU was created by the Oklahoma State Legislature act in 1909 as Pan-Handle Agricultural Institute offering secondary agricultural education for the Panhandle area. In 1921, the legislature authorized the school to offer a two-year college curriculum, and the name was changed to Panhandle Agricultural and Mechanical College. In 1925, the State Board of Agriculture authorized upper-division college courses, and in the summer of 1926, junior and senior-level courses were added to the curriculum. The legislature ordered two additional name changes: in 1967, Oklahoma Panhandle State College of Agriculture and Applied Science in 1974, Oklahoma Panhandle State University.

Diversity is respected at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, and individual differences are embraced as learning opportunities for campus community members. Northwestern recognizes that a dynamic diversity program is an essential dimension of any academic institution. As the world continues to change, and technology creates global economic opportunities regardless of geographic location, we must prepare students to meet those evolving demands. The population composition of Northwestern's service area creates challenging experiences for both faculty and students. As such, the diversity program at Northwestern, led by qualified faculty and staff, annually assesses and evaluates the ever-changing student and campus community needs regarding diversity and plans diversity awareness, engagement, and training opportunities to meet those needs. Northwestern provides quality and affordable education to all students. Our academic goals are driven through our Mission Statement, which embraces ethical leadership and service, critical thinking, and fiscal responsibility. Our faculty focus on teaching, not research, allowing them time to provide personal attention to you, providing detailed academic advising and other forms of academic assistance. You will get to know your teachers, and they will get to know you. Northwestern Oklahoma State University provides bachelor degrees with various options and minors within three academic schools, providing degrees via many departments/programs. Also, the University's Graduate Studies program offers degrees and options in the areas of Education, Psychology and American Studies and a Doctorate in Nursing Practice (BSN to DNP online program). Here at Northwestern, we strive to help each student create a positive collegiate experience their way in a friendly and safe environment. Go to class, get your work done, and enjoy being involved in daily extra-curricular activities on and off-campus, too. Attend a lecture or an athletic event. Compete in intramural athletics, become a campus media member, or volunteer your services in the community. Join a club or start one of your own! Hang out with friends in the Student Center, cafeteria, or cyber café or even in the dorm. If you would like to compete for Miss Oklahoma's title, take part in the annual Miss Northwestern Pageant. By doing these things outside of class, you will become a more well-rounded individual who will develop leadership skills to become more marketable when you start applying for jobs after graduation – plus you will make life-long friendships in the process. You also will develop that Ranger Pride you hear others talking about who have had enjoyable times on campus. Northwestern's Alva campus offers a real college experience. At the same time, the University's locations in Enid and Woodward provide students the convenience of obtaining a higher education without traveling quite so much. Both locations offer several student activities. Many students are employed on campus, but part-time employment opportunities are available at many businesses in Alva, Enid, and Woodward. We hope your campus life experience is a positive one, but remember - it will only be what you make it. Cherish your time spent as a Northwestern student because it will go by fast.
  16. View full university

For hard-working students in Oklahoma, financial aid can come in the form of scholarships. SWOSU offers scholarships based on academics, athletics, and a variety of other categories. SWOSU also accepts scholarships earned from foundations and organizations outside of SWOSU. Whether through scholarships or financial aid, we are committed to making sure prospective students in Oklahoma. We worldwide have the financial help that they need to become part of our community. We are delighted to have approximately 220 international students on our campus from around the globe. International students are valued members of the SWOSU community. The mission of the Office of International Student Affairs (ISA) is to support international students throughout their relationship with SWOSU—from admission to graduation and beyond. Our goal is to work with each student for their personal, academic, and career success. View full university

  22. The Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics (OSSM) was created through legislative action in 1983 and graduated its first 44 seniors from across the state in 1992. It is designed as a two-year residential, public high school for academically gifted students in mathematics and science. Our students are immersed in a culture of excellence and innovation and catalyze advancing public school STEM education in Oklahoma. To educate students who show promise of exceptional academic development through a program of instruction and discovery that challenges them beyond the traditional high school model, imparting a superior foundation for careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields. Admission is a competitive process initiated by written application. Semifinalists are interviewed by a committee comprised of community leaders and faculty before final selection is determined. Because all academic courses are advanced and accelerated honors-level courses, OSSM does not calculate grade point averages or class ranking. OSSM offers opportunities for students to pursue academic interests to the highest levels. These courses regularly include topics in Theoretical Physics, Advanced Genetics, Chemistry, Literature, History, and Modern Politics. Directed studies are not counted towards graduation requirements and are not graded. OSSM students must complete a minimum of sixteen (16) units: one unit of biology, one unit of chemistry, one and one-half units of physics, one unit of science electives, two units of mathematics (inclusive of calculus), two units of English, two units of history two units of the same foreign language one- a half unit of computer science one unit of fine arts two units of physical education. More than 60% of OSSM students participate in independent research, receiving hands-on experience in their field of interest outside of the classroom. Mentorships have been a part of the academic program at the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics since the first graduating class. The proximity of OSSM to the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, and other organizations in Oklahoma City allows students to have the opportunity to work alongside nationally acclaimed researchers, physicians, engineers, and business people. The mission of the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics is: To educate students who show promise of exceptional academic development through a program of instruction and discovery that challenges them far beyond the traditional high school model, imparting a superior foundation for careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields. To catalyze advancing public school STEM education in Oklahoma by providing residential, regional, summer, and virtual learning programs that extend advanced science and math education to a diverse student demographic. To inspire students to make a difference in the State of Oklahoma and the world by leveraging their knowledge and curiosity to better humanity. To be Oklahoma’s premier residential STEM school creating a world of possibilities and life-changing opportunities. We cultivate caring and are, by nature, invested in the personal success and well-being of others. We listen deeply and with open minds to fully appreciate other perspectives. We embody integrity and innovation, blending mastery with forwarding thinking. We practice intellectual humility and continuously engage in learning. We bridge the worlds of seen and unseen, of knowledge and action, past and future. We foster physical, spiritual, and emotional health in ourselves and others. 23. Located twenty miles east of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Academy exists to provide a quality, Christian education for today's youth. We seek to impress upon our students' minds that "the harvest of life is a character, and it is this that determines our destiny, both for this life and for the life to come." (Ed p. 109) In all matters, our primary objective is to fully equip our students to participate in finishing the work that God has called our church to do. Oklahoma Academy traces its beginning to the year 1980, when Elder Robert Rider, then President of the Oklahoma Conference, called Elder Jim Hiner to be the Conference evangelist. Along with the conference evangelist's role, Elder Hiner was asked to take on the task of erecting a self-supported academy. In 1981, Oklahoma Academy was established on 80-acres of what was once a wheat field. At Oklahoma Academy, because we believe you should make the most of your high school experience, we provide many academic opportunities and a wide variety of electives. Choose the program that fits you best – the standard diploma or the college preparatory diploma. During your time here at OA, you will also be given classes in Sanctuary and canvassing, which will allow you to have a part in evangelism. For those of you who need to learn or improve your English, our program will allow you to immerse yourself, and within six months, you will be able to continue for your diploma. Whichever program you decide that God is leading you to take, we encourage you to visit us or call us with any questions!
