  1. The University of Niigata Prefecture is fully accredited by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology. UNP opened in April 2009 and operated as a local independent administrative institution (public university corporation). The university comprises two faculties: the Faculty of International Studies and Regional Development and the Faculty of Human Life Studies, and admits approximately 240 students per year. The University of Niigata Prefecture conducts an extensive range of research on society's various challenges from international, regional, and human perspectives. We are striving to become a university that develops graduates who will play a core role in identifying and overcoming such challenges while making significant contributions to our region's development. The University of Niigata Prefecture endeavors to: Provide a campus experience that enables students to realize their ambitions. Develop graduates able to compete in the global workplace. Nurture young leaders ready to play an essential role in the future of the region. Collaborate with those needing support in the development of problem-solving competencies. Put together a faculty that will expand the role of Niigata Prefecture in Northeast Asia. Our region is blessed with a rich natural environment and food culture and the potential to become a hub for international exchange in East Asia. The mission of the University of Niigata Prefecture is to nurture graduates who can put these strengths to fair use in resolving the various issues the region faces as it strives to become both a vibrant exchange hub for East Asian countries and a place where people choose to live because of the excellent child-raising environment and the long and healthy lives enjoyed by residents. Such graduates will need an international perspective such as foreign language ability and global viewpoint, a deep understanding of the region, and the rich human qualities important for living and working together with other people, regardless of whether they are from Japan or abroad. For this reason, the University of Niigata Prefecture has defined its Basic Principles as: "Development of an International Perspective," "Regional Emphasis," and "Development of Human Qualities." Cultivate mature, well-grounded, humane, empathic, creative, and motivated graduates who will be ready and able to play a constructive role in international society. Develop capabilities in students necessary for meaningful interaction with today's increasingly sophisticated, complex, and specialized society by teaching socially useful skills that include English-centric communication skills, skills required in child care facilities, and expert knowledge for providing nutritional guidance. Provide adequate support for students by introducing an adviser system tailored to address the needs of all students and provide them with the best possible assistance to realize their talents and achieve their goals while considering financial and other burdens that all students face during university life. Contribute to creating a better local society by producing graduates who appreciate the regional culture and the natural environment and who can act meaningfully based on their knowledge of society and its culture. The roots of regional prosperity can be found in the development of the region's people. Individuals rich in human qualities are needed to create a society in which people can live and prosper together and promote exchange with other nations. To cultivate such qualities, at the University of Niigata Prefecture, we offer an education tailored to each student's needs. We provide an environment where students can actively encourage and engage with one another as they learn together.
  2. The University was established in 2001 to train future health professionals in health and social welfare sciences. Currently, more than 4,000 graduates are working, not only in Japan but also in foreign countries, as "QOL (quality of life) supporters" involved in the care of the elderly, patients undergoing medical treatment, and the disabled. Fostering "qualified QOL supporters" has been our School's primary emphasis since its foundation. The Undergraduate School has four faculties consisting of eleven departments. In the Faculty of Medical Technology, the departments include Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences, and Prosthetics & Orthotics and Assistive Technology Clinical Engineering and Medical Technology and Orthoptics and Visual Sciences, which was newly instituted in 2014. In the Faculty of Health Science, the departments include Health and Nutrition, Health and Sports, and Nursing. The Faculty of Social Welfare consists of a single department, the Department of Social Welfare. The fourth faculty is the Faculty of Healthcare Management, which consists of the Department of Health Informatics. There are about 3,400 students now taking a wide range of courses in these faculties. Our graduate school started in 2005 and now has four master's courses with majors in Rehabilitation Sciences (Master of Rehabilitation Science), Social Welfare (Master of Social Work), Health Sciences (Master of Health Science), and Health Informatics and Business Administration (Master of Health Informatics and Business Administration), which was just established. The School has one doctoral course with a major in Health and Welfare (Doctor of Health Science). Out of 102 students, 74 are in the master's courses and 28 in the doctoral course, as of April 1, 2014. As a matter of educational policy, we pay special attention to interprofessional education (IPE). It is necessary for students to participate in a learning system shared with different professional trainees based on the multi-disciplinary healthcare team's concept and to understand the roles of the different professions within the team. IPE can increase patient satisfaction and a reduction in medical expenditures. With the increase of globalization in the form of the influx of health care professionals into Japan from abroad and vice versa, the IPE has been becoming more important than ever for students and professionals in health-related fields. We want to encourage students with scientific interests in improving people's health to become "qualified QOL supporters" with the intent to work worldwide in the future. We have been conducting collaborative research with international professionals, especially those from countries in Asia and the Pacific region. Therefore, we are looking forward to producing modern scientific and technological achievements with the international community of health professionals who share a common interest in health science and health care. Basic Goals for NUHW: To foster health professionals who will work not only in the super-aged society but also in the upcoming global society in Japan, we aim to increase students from 2800 to 5000 within ten years. To produce qualified QOL supporters who will work in the super-aged society and the upcoming global society in Japan, we provide educational support for all our students and graduates. They can work not only in local communities but also in many parts of the world. Also, we provide the basis for education and research according to the following ten domains (refer to the table below). Long-term Goals (2010-2020) Mid-term Goals (2014-2017)
  3. The origin of founding NIIT was based on Niigata-based companies' strong will for establishing an educational institution by themselves where they could foster talented engineers in Niigata through on-the-job training. Their determination eventually allied the institute foundation, and the fund was raised widely from the public to private, including Kashiwazaki and most other cities, towns, and villages in Niigata prefecture. The number of supporting companies reached more than 500. Thus NIIT was founded by the great enthusiasm of the alliance companies, local government, and Niigata citizens. "Alliance of the NIIT foundation" was the impetus for founding this Institution. Afterward, the name was changed to "NIIT Industrial-Academic Association" and is now firmly supporting the institute not only for internship and collaborative research but for recruiting our graduates. NIIT centers on an experience-based education in order to gain practical skills and creativity. Experiments and practices, supported by NIIT Industrial-Academic Association, are actively incorporated to practice the mastered knowledge to be a manufacturing expert. NIIT Industrial-Academic Association supports NIIT students for their higher motivation by recognizing the students who got national/public qualifications. It also facilitates interactive seminars introducing advanced technology of the member companies as a part of career education and provides educational facilities for a better learning environment. Furthermore, our Self-Evaluation System allows students to see their achievements and take an active step in their academic growth. A tablet (iPad-mini) is lent to all students without charge. The campus-wide wireless LAN is provided for utilizing it in lectures, giving out lecture materials, and reading electronic textbooks and reference books. All lecture rooms are equipped with an electronic board and a projector. The wireless mirroring system is also available to encourage active discussion and improve communication skills. Some classes and research utilize professional simulation software, making it possible to simulate structure, sound, piezoelectric, electrothermal, vibration, fluid, and so on in detail. One faculty staff is arranged as an adviser for about five students in each academic year. Each student regularly meets his / her adviser through "Engineering Seminar class". Also, students can consult about academic and general problems at any time. Furthermore, the Education Center provides individual support and tutoring to those who want to gain a solid understanding of basic subjects, such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, English, and information. Since we had our first graduates in 1999, the average employment rate has been maintained for more than 95%. The employment rates of 2015, 2016, and 2017 are 100%, not influenced by economic ups and downs. Moreover, graduates' satisfaction degree for their employer is high: 99% in 2015 and 97% in 2016. The number of recruitment exceeds 3,000, and these figures represent the positive educational outcomes of our Institution. "Career Design" is offered as a regular course from the first year. This class challenges students to consider what kind of skills and knowledge they need to acquire. Also, group work and role-play are effectively implemented to develop communication and presentation skills needed as a professional. Students also gain expertise as well as generic skills through career education by experienced lecturers.

  5. Our university is located in the city of Kashiwazaki, almost in the middle of Niigata Prefecture. Flanked by the mountains and the sea, Kashiwazaki is a scenic city of about 90,000 people. The area has long flourished as a transport hub, being both a post-station town on the Hokkoku Road and a port of call for coastal trading ships. This convenient location has helped the Ushijima cloth market flourish, developing a prosperous economy and traditional culture. During Japan's early modernization, the discovery of oil in Kashiwazaki brought numerous oil companies to the region, further encouraging the machinery and metal industry's growth, forming the foundations of its current industry. The predecessor to Niigata Sangyo University, Kashiwazaki Vocational College, was opened on June 2, 1947. This was just two months after the Fundamental Law of Education came into force in Japan. Our founder, Kyohei Shimojo, founded the college based on his sense of mission, a conviction that the reconstruction and development of postwar Japan and the construction of a peaceful, happy society depended on young people's education. He called this educational philosophy "the establishment of the independent self." This founding spirit and principle have been passed on to Niigata Sangyo University and are reflected in the stated purpose of our founding: "The ultimate goal of education is to establish the self as independent through the cultivation of human nature, and the development of the ability to contribute creatively to society with the sensibility of the new era. Educational Goals: To foster independent people who can learn by themselves, think by themselves, and act by themselves. To foster people who can master academia's basics, gain a broad education, and respond independently to the rapidly-changing society. Through practical education, to foster people who can contribute to local society through an awareness of themselves as society members. The Graduate School of Niigata Sangyo University provides opportunities for advanced study and research to foster people who will play leading roles in the development of regional society, including leading industrialists in the local area, local authority officials, and leading teachers in secondary education. We also provide opportunities for retraining adults active in a range of different fields within society and lifelong learning for the local community. We are a practical-oriented graduate school that, through our two-year courses, provides an education that contributes to improving the ability to judge situations, the ability to make decisions, and the ability to manage that are required of those people who will take leading roles in the region. We have several different social events throughout the year to encourage interaction between international students, Japanese students, and residents, including the Welcome Party, the Ball Games, the Christmas Party, and the Speech Contest and food stalls at the University Festival. Extracurricular activities for international students include the Arts and Culture Club for learning Japanese culture, the Mongolian Wrestling Club, and the Sino-Japanese Communication Circle.
  6. We are located in Niigata's Kenoh region, an area with rich natural resources. It is a one-hour drive from Niigata-city, the largest municipality in the western part of Japan on the Sea of Japan. Since opening our doors in 1994 in response to residents' strong requests, we have grown to become a regional university with global reach, boasting a culturally diverse and well-rounded student body that contributes to the community, the country, and the world. We are dedicated to preparing students for their future careers through structured curriculum design and strong relationships with the local community, industry, and the professions through a wide variety of partnerships and projects. We also bring students a vibrant student life in a safe and community-minded city with beautiful natural surroundings. The Niigata University of Management, founded in 1994 in central Niigata Prefecture with the support of 18 communities, is an academic institution jointly supported by the public and private sectors. The university's mission is to educate individuals who can contribute to the local community, and to that end, we are making improvements to our academic programs. Since last year the university has entered into new partnerships with financial institutions. Such relationships offer students practical experience solving real-world problems and conducting research into a sales promotion, product development, and marketing. Working in tandem, university instructors and local business operators mentor students, who benefit from the knowledge imparted and are thereby prepared to offer solutions themselves. This, then, is our program of practical education. Also, Niigata University of Management implemented the Carrier Challenge Program (CCP) this year. CCP is a mentoring scheme whereby students receive individualized guidance from matriculation to graduation. Utilizing the Carrier Challenge Sheet (CCS), a kind of road map charting students' educational journey towards realizing future dreams and goals, individual students and their teacher-mentor can manage the process effectively. Moreover, the expansion of active and collaborative learning is proceeding. This education model, and embodied by the Carrier Challenge Program, develops students to become human resources assets. Please find out more about Niigata University of Management's exciting new programs. The Niigata University of Management is located in "Little Kyoto" Kamo, a town where tradition lives amid nature's bounty. We await new enrollees with an open heart. We offer a range of university facilities to provide an ideal educational environment for all NUM students and support our university's teaching and service mission's evolving needs. 7. Niigata University of International and Information Studies is a relatively young university founded in 1994 with the idea to cultivate people who can respond to our time – globalization and computerization. However, it has become a university that this region needs to cultivate those people. The 5,801 graduates it has sent out into the world these past 23 years play essential roles, mostly right here in Niigata Prefecture. The Mizuno Campus is located in the western part of Niigata City, in the middle of a rural area looking out onto Mt. Yahiko. This spacious campus is spread out amongst an abundance of nature, and in addition to being an ideal place to study, it is the perfect place for students to enjoy their youth. The Niigata Central Campus in downtown Niigata City is used for multiple purposes such as graduate research and open college public courses. Our Founding Principles are to cultivate people who understand the differences between Japanese and foreign cultures and who can contribute to many countries' information culture. To lead an information society and contribute to the advancement of humankind's welfare while respecting national, regional, and human culture. Nowadays, people form information networks based on more global values while placing importance on the differences in cultures rooted in regions and countries. Niigata University of International and Information Studies opened to use those networks to create real bonds so that people can coexist peacefully. We are striving for world peace by cultivating people who can contribute to creating and further growth of information culture. Information is continuing to take on a more critical role in recent years since the world is demanding singularly globally-minded solutions to economic problems and environmental, hunger, and human rights problems. It speaks to the fact that they need to cultivate people who can contribute to globalization and computerization, the purpose for which our university was founded, is continuing to grow with more impetus than is imaginable. This university is made up of two faculties. The Faculty of International Studies contains the Department of International Cultural Studies, and the Faculty of Information Culture, which contains the Information Systems Department. The Faculty of International Studies, which contains the Department of International Cultural Studies, aims to cultivate useful people who can use their knowledge and ability in a global society by having its students learn by comparing Japanese society and culture to other countries. All first-year students in this department will make Communicative English and take one foreign language from American, Chinese, Korean, and Russian. Students in the Faculty of Information Culture, which contains the Information Systems Department, will study the theory and practice of information technology and information systems in the network society that extends worldwide. The department also focuses on humanities education and small-group instruction to help us produce people who can contribute to a computerized society. In recent years, we have also begun conducting continuous self-evaluation and improvements to achieve even higher levels of research and education.

  9. University is a place where dreams and hopes are nurtured. Since the Niigata University of Pharmacy and Applied Life Sciences is a life science university comprising the Faculty of Pharmacy for primarily training pharmacists essential for healthcare. The Faculty of Applied Life Sciences for training human resources for bioscience, environment, and food in an environment that makes it easier for students to set their goals in terms of which pathways they would take in the future and whom they could contribute to society. What is important is to engage in trying to make intangible dreams actively and hopes into something concrete. Based on the dignity of life and through education/research of pharmacy and life science, we will nurture promising human resources who have a high degree of professionalism and rich humanity that contribute to health enhancement, environmental conservation, international exchange, and community evolution, and produce research results that are beneficial for social progress and cultural enhancement. How can one do that? It is essential to understand the individual subjects that one studies in lectures, but it is also essential to understand how each of those subjects relates to one another. Take, for instance, a jigsaw puzzle. One can see how each piece connects to another from the characteristics of individual pieces. One can complete the puzzle by judging where the connected part is supposed to be placed in the overall image. In this way, it is crucial to grasp the big picture by integrating individualized knowledge for future growth. We would like you to be keenly aware of the necessity to make your dreams and hopes more concrete and realize them. At the Niigata University of Pharmacy and Applied Life Sciences, we have many brilliant teaching staff active in their fields and fellow students who are studying with the same aim. We aim to cultivate "pharmacists working at the center of community healthcare" who are equipped with knowledge and humanity appropriate for healthcare professionals through the study of ethics and problem-solving abilities required in medical practice, as well as advanced knowledge of the relationship between the properties of chemical substances and life, illness and drug therapy. Based on "life sciences" learned from the world filled with nature and human life, we aim to nurture: Human resources that would support activities that protect and develop our rich natural environment. Human resources with knowledge of new sciences and technologies such as bioscience would play active roles in food and the environment.

  11. View full university

13. View full university
  14. Long-term Goals (2010-2020) Mid-term Goals (2014-2017) View full university

  16. 17. View full university
