About Me

  1. At Strand on the Green Infant and Nursery School, we offer an active and exciting curriculum for 3-7 year age range where children learn through a balance of child-centered play and teacher-led sessions, setting them up to be independent and successful learners in our linked Junior School and beyond. Our inspirational and talented teaching team provides an environment that nurtures a love of learning, inquiry, creativity, teamwork, and unity. Every child is encouraged to achieve the highest standards possible, in an atmosphere where all success, great or small, is properly celebrated. Progress for all children in basic skills is excellent, no matter their starting points and we are proud of our academic standards. We recognize the importance of developing young children's spoken language and understanding and this is reflected in our emphasis on active learning through play in the Early Years. Our Swan Centre provides specialist teaching and a structured environment for children with Autism who are also able to successfully access sessions in the mainstream school with support. Our curriculum is truly broad and balanced, with a strong emphasis on supporting children to be happy, healthy, and motivated, able to work collaboratively with others, and rise confidently to challenges in life. We offer a range of sports activities including PE taught by specialist staff and the daily mile run by KS1 children most days. Music and creativity are promoted through a themed curriculum approach and families can also opt for paid individual instrument tuition if they wish. We are uniquely situated, tucked away in Strand on the Green, within a stone’s throw of the River Thames in Chiswick. We utilize that locality to the full, with regular educational visits out of school. We work hard on providing high-quality learning environments inside and outside including two lovely Early Years outdoor learning areas, a ‘field' and a Forest School area. At Strand on the Green Infant & Nursery School, our aim is for each child to achieve his/ her full potential, academically, socially, physically, creatively, and spiritually. This will be achieved through a partnership with staff, pupils, parents, governors, and the wider community. Our curriculum takes into account that each pupil is an individual with a mixture of talents and needs. Through our curriculum, we aim to nurture and develop this potential for each individual. Our school affords high priority to numeracy, literacy, and the ability of pupils to express themselves fluently and confidently. In all subject areas, recognition is given to the importance of first-hand experience and practical tasks in the acquisition and application of knowledge and skills. As a school, we are not committed to anyone's approach to teaching and learning but to using a range of techniques to achieve our mission. Our children are active learners and everyone is challenged or supported to engage with the curriculum. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage and the National Curriculum but have tailored this to suit the children living in our community and to reflect our local environment. For example, visiting local places of worship and learning through outings to the Gunnersbury Museum and Kew Gardens. These visits are all integral to our curriculum. Some of our visits such as the Science Museum, The National Gallery and West Wittering are further afield. Teachers make learning relevant and exciting, for example, there is always a purpose given to Writing. Outdoor learning is valued as much as indoor learning Nursery and Reception work in outdoor learning areas and all children have the opportunity to learn through a ‘Forest Schools Programme’ and learn social and physical skills at playtime and lunchtimes. By making sure lessons are fun and engaging, we aim to foster a 'love of learning so that children approach their tasks with enthusiasm and confidence. Teachers' expectations of what each child is capable of achieving are very high and learning is structured, relevant, and stimulating to meet the needs of each child. At the same time, pupils are encouraged to set their high standards and to learn to appreciate success. Children are encouraged to be independent and are offered a variety of child-initiated learning as well as teacher-directed tasks. We are proud of the outstanding behavior demonstrated by the children at Strand Infants. We believe in the provision of a high-quality curriculum, with exciting and engaging activities combined with high expectations for learning and behavior at all times. We encourage all adults and children to use positive language and manners, demonstrating respect and trusting relationships. Our Behaviour Policy is followed calmly, positively, and consistently by all staff. Parents and carers work in partnership with the school, celebrating the good news about behavior and working through any challenges together.
  2. Sudley Infants is a very successful school, where children are at the heart of all we do. Our ethos is summarised in our school motto – Building Bright Futures. At Sudley Infants, we aim to create a secure, caring and stimulating learning environment in which everyone can develop and do well. We share a commitment to achieving the highest possible academic standards, alongside the development of our children as confident, caring, and responsible citizens. At Sudley Infants, we firmly believe that a key factor in helping children develop and achieve lies in the relationship between home and school and we work hard to ensure there are many opportunities for parents/carers to work with us. At Sudley Infant School we want to engage pupils to become skilled and self-motivated, lifelong learners, through an enjoyable, memorable curriculum. Children are encouraged to observe, explore and investigate the world of science, so developing their understanding, knowledge, and skills, so that they may increasingly apply these in further investigations. We aim to provide the children with a variety of opportunities to experiment with different media and techniques, in 2 and 3 dimensions, and to promote awareness and enjoyment of artwork from many cultures. We aim to develop the children's design and technology skills so that they may investigate a need or respond to opportunities to make or modify by planning effective ways of working, organizing appropriate resources, and evaluating their designs. We aim to develop an awareness and appreciation of scenic features and the nature of the built environment concerning our society and the wider world. The children should be able to use the computer as a friendly aid to access information, use CD Roms, and word process their literacy work. They are taught basic coding and debugging and how to stay safe when using the internet. To generate awareness of our multi-cultural society, to develop links between the community and the school, encouraging greater trust and understanding. We aim to involve children in enjoyable musical activities in which they may participate as performers, listeners, and composers, using a variety of styles to develop musical concepts. We aim to help children examine their own and other people’s attitudes and values and to be able to make informed decisions. We allow children to develop respect for themselves and others by discussing self-esteem and positive images. Children discuss various aspects of hygiene and healthy eating which helps them acquire the knowledge and understanding that will enable them to choose healthy lifestyles. During the Foundation Stage, the Reception curriculum is organized into seven areas. The prime areas of learning are Communication and language, Physical development, Personal, social and emotional development. The specific areas of learning are literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, Expressive arts, and design. These areas of learning are developed throughout the year within a variety of studies. Early in the school year, the children are allowed to enjoy a variety of books and begin to read. When appropriate they will begin to record simple writing and maths work. Our new Reception outdoor play area is enjoyed by the children as they further develop their skills. All tasks within the subjects are taught through carefully planned, well-organized, and interesting study units which the children find stimulating and enjoyable.
  3. St Joseph's Catholic Infant School is a Voluntary Aided School within the Diocese of Brentwood. Our thriving school community includes Nursery classes and links to our Junior School, Tollgate Teaching Alliance, and the Aquinas Learning Trust. Our grounds provide great opportunities for outdoor learning, as well as play, sport, and family events. This year we have seen a three million pound refurbishment take place which further demonstrates our commitment to make continuous improvement and invest in the education of our children. Our vision is for every child to make the best possible progress. We challenge children to achieve their best through an ethos of positive praise, high expectations, and providing the right level of support. Our committed staff team has developed an exciting and engaging curriculum that is based on the interests of our children. In 2017 we were ranked in the top 8% of schools nationally for phonics. Our end of Key Stage results are consistently significantly above the national average and indeed above other local schools. Every child is of equal importance and unique. Pupils and members of our community are valued for what they are rather than what they can do and are given every opportunity for educational development to the highest level possible. We are all equal and every child is provided with the foundation to become a life-long learner growing in confidence and self-esteem as well as developing a positive attitude to learning. In partnership with our parents and community, we share, inspire and motivate our children so they can be the best they can. We believe passionately in education and strive to provide a rich and varied curriculum to enrich our children’s lives. We aim to provide the foundation so that every child becomes a lifelong learner. The experiences gained with us are designed to have a lasting value. As Catholic educators, we strive to ensure children learn, not simply to excel academically, but to excel emotionally and care for each other. Our children learn to respect themselves, respect each other and the world around them. We are proud of our children and all they achieve. They are our finest ambassadors.
  4. St Francis de Sales School is a three-form entry federated infant and junior school (a federation means that the infant and junior schools used to be separate schools – but now the two schools are united under one headteacher). We serve a community of nearly 700 pupils from nursery through to year 6. At St Francis, every child is encouraged to discover and nurture their God-given ability through a stimulating curriculum that has global dimensions. We aim to engage and inspire our pupils by going beyond the restrictions of the national curriculum – producing youngsters who can take up their place in secondary education and the world of work with the knowledge and confidence they need to be successful. As a Catholic school, our overall goal is to fulfill the Church’s mission in education by ensuring we provide the highest level of academic achievement in a moral and spiritual framework. So, at St Francis, we aim to have a school where: Parents can trust that their children are being academically challenged in a caring environment. Children are enthusiastic and independent learners motivated by the rich and varied curriculum. Each individual is developed to take their place as an active and productive member of the Catholic community and within the wider world. Our mission, To accomplish the aims, we strive to follow the guidance of St Francis himself, who said: “Be who you are and be that well.” This motivates everyone at the school to be the best that we can be and this is reflected in our mission statement. “At St Francis de Sales every child will achieve their excellence by making outstanding progress in their academic, social and spiritual development. This will enable them to excel at secondary school and then attend a further educational institution should they choose.” Underpinning everything we do are our values – the core principles which drive our behaviors at all times. It is our strong belief that pupils who are aspirational, respectful, resilient, engaged, team-players will be successful in anything they choose to do. We also ensure our pupils understand the wider ‘British values’ – these are democracy, the rule of law, liberty, mutual respect, and tolerance. These British values link very closely to our school values and they are promoted through all elements of the school curriculum, systems, and processes. St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic School originated in a school for boys, girls, and infants opened in 1827 close to the new church in Chapel Place. It had 65 pupils, a master, and a mistress by 1835. A new schoolroom was built in 1858 and enlarged in 1873. This was four years before classes moved to Brereton Road, where a new building was finished in 1882. (At that date school pence, paid by those who could afford to do so, were supplemented by a parliamentary grant.) The building comprised a schoolroom, partitioned off from the chapel on weekdays, and a classroom. This is now the Parish Hall. A separate boys' department was opened in 1885 and an additional schoolroom, for an infants' department, was finished in 1886. The enlarged school had 349 pupils by 1905, but attendance fell to 287 in 1919 and 252 in 1938. The school was evacuated to Ingatestone when war was declared in 1939. Children gradually drifted back to Tottenham so the school was reopened in 1940 using the air raid shelters beneath the church and in the convent (which had a separate school for girls). The convent received a direct hit during the war so in 1945 its school was taken over and extended in 1958 and 1969. So as a Catholic school, we encourage our children to be unique, creative, open-minded, and independent individuals, respectful of themselves and others in our school, our local community, and the wider world. We seek to develop the whole person and to nurture our children on their journey through life so they can grow into safe, caring, democratic, responsible, and tolerant adults who make a positive difference to the wider community. Children will have an entitlement to achieve well academically and at the same time to grow in equal measure in understanding Gospel values and living a rewarding Catholic life. The aim for our children is that when they leave in Y6, they are equipped to excel at secondary school and build the foundation for success in the world of post-compulsory education.
  5. Welcome to St Francis de Sales Catholic Infant and Nursery School. Our Infant School is an exciting place to be, full of outstanding children, enthusiastic, dedicated staff, and lots of wonderful surprises. We believe that Every Child Matters and learning at our school is fun and exciting, challenging and rewarding. We offer a warm and caring environment that enables children to feel safe and secure as they grow, learn and develop. The foundation of our success is happy children working hard in surroundings where they are valued and value others. The first years in school are the most important and can shape children's attitudes to learning and school long after they leave us. We hope by the time the children leave our Infant School they will have developed a good sense of self-worth and a stimulated mind so that they are happy and motivated as they continue on their journey through education. We are extremely proud of our Infant School and are always pleased to show prospective children and parents around so that you can see our school first hand. At our school, we aim to walk and pray with Jesus as a Christian family. To do this, we will: provide a warm welcome to all, be kind and loving to each other as Jesus taught us, help and support each other, bring the values from the Gospel to life within our school family, celebrate the diversity and talents of all members of our community. Inspire a love of learning in all. To do this, we will: provide an exciting, stimulating, and inclusive learning environment that both challenges and supports learners, provide a broad and balanced curriculum that encompasses and enhances social, intellectual, emotional, physical, moral, and spiritual development, promote active, independent skill-based learning, enable everyone to reach their full potential and develop to the best of their ability, provide opportunities for everyone to realize their dreams, recognize their gifts and raise self-esteem and self-confidence, learn about and respect other faiths and cultures. Work in partnership with our families, parish, and the wider community. To do this, we will: work with parents and support them in their role as first educators, promote and encourage positive links between our school and the parish community, use our talents to enrich the lives of others, and encourage active participation in community and school events, engage with the wider community through educational trips and welcome visitors into our school, recognize the wider community as an extension of our school family by, for example, participating in charitable events. The Early Years Foundation Stage provides children with a wide and balanced curriculum it encompasses learning for children in both Nursery and Reception and underpins how children learn through exploration, play, and engagement. There are seven areas of learning that make up the early year’s curriculum. The Prime Areas: Personal, social, and emotional development Communication and language Physical development The Specific Areas: Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, Expressive arts, and design. The children are taught through topics based on the Lancashire Scheme which has a focus each half term on one or more foundations subjects: Music, Geography, History, Art, and DT along with Science, English, Maths, and PE. The children are taught through a combination of discreet teaching and collaborative, investigative learning within Continuous Provision Areas where they are also able to practice the skills taught independently. We follow the “COME AND SEE” curriculum which is recommended by the Liverpool Archdiocese. The children also learn about two different faiths each year e.g. Islam and Judaism. This helps them to appreciate the multi-cultural society in which we live and become aware and appreciate cultures and religions other than their own. We aim to teach the year group expectations for English that are set out in the English Curriculum within the National Curriculum 2014. The curriculum is divided into Reading, Writing, with Spoken Language underpinning both. Spoken language underpins the development of reading and writing. The quality of language the children hear and speak is essential for developing their vocabulary and grammar and their comprehension for reading and writing. We aim to ensure that the children gain confidence and competence in spoken language and listening skills. The children are taught to decode words by sounding out the phonemes in a word and blending those sounds to say the word. They will be taught the speedy recognition of familiar words, also tricky and common exception words, words with unusual spelling patterns. Great emphasis in the teaching of Phonics continues from the Early Years into Key Stage 1.
  6. As your children embark upon their formal education we take to welcome you to St Cecilia’s Catholic Infant and Nursery School. This is a heart–rending time for parents as you hand your children, possibly for the first time, into the care of someone else. We, at St Cecilia’s, hope to work in partnership with you in nurturing and educating your children. Your children will be happy in school when they are confident in the knowledge of a working partnership, based on mutual trust and understanding, between home and school. St Cecilia’s Catholic Infant and Nursery School strive to be a family community, inspired by the teachings of Christ where each individual is valued, nurtured, and encouraged to reach their full potential. We aim to create a welcoming environment and foster a meaningful Catholic ethos that involves the home and parish community in the life of the school. We aim to provide a child-centered broad-based curriculum that enables children to fully develop their talents, gifts, and skills. We aim to nurture confidence and self-esteem. We aim to inspire curiosity and encourage empathy for the global family communities. The Foundation Stage includes the Nursery and Reception years of a child’s education. It is a distinct stage and important both in its own right and in preparing children for later schooling. The Foundation Stage places emphasis on how children learn and engage with their learning journey through: Playing and exploring Active learning, Creating, and thinking critically. There are seven areas of learning that make up the curriculum. The Prime areas: Personal, social, and emotional development, Communication and language, Physical development. The Specific areas: Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, Expressive arts, and design. To ensure a broad and balanced curriculum, activities follow the children’s interests wherever possible. Throughout the year a variety of topics and themes are introduced to the children as appropriate. Children are provided with opportunities to learn outdoors and all children can engage in planting and growing activities in our thriving Nursery allotment. At St Cecilia’s we are committed to ensuring the children in our care have time, every day, to explore their learning both indoors and outdoors with knowledgeable, interested, and enthusiastic adults. The Key Stage 1 curriculum covers Years 1 and 2 and provides a balanced and broadly based program of study which helps to promote the spiritual, moral, cultural, and physical development of pupils. The children are taught topics that may be Science/ Geography/History based. From this literacy and maths, activities will be taught. Personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education is a planned, developmental program of learning through which children and young people acquire the knowledge, understanding, and skills they need to manage their lives now and in the future. As part of a whole-school approach, PSHE education develops the qualities and attributes pupils need to thrive as individuals, family members, and members of society. During KS1 learners gradually build on the skills, attitudes and values, knowledge, and understanding they have started to acquire and develop during the Early Years/Foundation Stage. PSHE education offers learning opportunities and experiences which reflect the increasing independence and physical and social awareness of learners as they move through the primary phase. They learn skills to develop effective relationships, assume greater personal responsibility, and keep themselves safe. The school's PSHE curriculum reflects national expectations and supports all of our children concerning their physical, emotional, and social development. It also promotes their understanding of their rights and responsibilities as members of a wide range of communities.
  7. The White House Preparatory School has been established as a leading Independent Co-Educational Day Preparatory School for almost thirty years. We cater to children from two and a half to eleven years old, and we are lucky to teach small classes of happy children in a beautiful Cubitt-designed Victorian villa in Clapham Park, situated, five minutes from Clapham Common, amid a vibrant community. In keeping with our ethos of bringing out the best in every child, we keep the school small and personal. Our class sizes average sixteen pupils and we make sure that every child from the beginning of their time with us feels valued and cared for with a special part to play in the everyday life of the school. We are a close-knit community with strong ties to our children’s families and believe that there is more to education than simple academics, although we excel in this area as well. We manage to teach in a non-pressured, happy way, encouraging a love of learning and bringing out the many facets of our pupils’ personalities. Our children enjoy a vibrant, broad curriculum that stimulates, challenges, and excites. Our children are happy pupils, as we believe that they learn more and give more if they are in a nurturing place that they love. We offer excellent pastoral support, encourage manners, and respect for one another. To truly educate we celebrate the creative, the physical, and the spiritual to create a rounded individual. We cherish childhood in all its forms, and we encourage gentleness, kindness, and humility. Traditional values have been shown to hold great sway in the workplace, and we foster them in our boys and girls. Individuality, so often absent in schools these days, lost in a chase for targets and exam successes, is actively encouraged, and we manage to combine this with the academic success which is intrinsic to modern life today. We are very proud of The White House pupils who leave us at the age of eleven for a variety of prestigious London Day Schools they stand out from their peers. Confident but without arrogance, self-assured but not pushy, with a strong moral compass and unbounded enthusiasm. The children we educate are our best advertisement. The White House is a special place that brings our pupils back for visits years after they have left. The White House Preparatory School ensures children achieve high academic results whilst continuing to remember the importance of being child-centered. We encourage happiness, reward hard work, acknowledge and praise children for both personal and academic achievements.
  8. Southville is a popular school, based in Feltham, London Borough of Hounslow. We have up to 360 pupils on the roll, aged between 3 and 7. We aim to do achieve this by providing an outstanding level of pastoral care within a nurturing environment. Which includes, but is not limited to providing an untroubled, secure, caring, healthy, safe, and stimulating environment in which children will want to learn, with the children’s welfare being paramount. We are constantly looking for new ways to raise standards, and to further improve our provision to adapt to the ever-changing needs of the children to ensure they are getting the best support possible and to assist our pupils in developing lively, enquiring minds. We seek to help children prepare for becoming active citizens by developing and nurturing our values of respect, responsibility, confidence, compassion, happiness, and aspirations.
  9. Creativity and excellence are at the heart of everything we do at Springwell Infant School. Children are encouraged to work to the best of their abilities. The academic curriculum offers challenge through innovative teaching and projects, which focuses on developing the talents of each child. Our aim is that as the children grow in confidence, so does their desire to question and discuss, to reflect, and apply their learning. Our distinctive approach to learning, with the creative arts at its core, helps children excel academically. Learning through doing, through collaboration, through linking subjects in topic-based learning, all lie at the heart of our educational ethos. Our teachers are inspiring, academically rigorous, and committed to supporting the children’s emotional and academic development. Teachers and teaching assistants are attracted here by both our educational philosophy and our outstanding reputation for professional development. With an excellent and large staff team, our pupils are given the capacity to learn, and also to grow as individuals, to express themselves, to explore, to search, and to discover. The large sports program, the creative and performing arts, and an ever-changing diverse wealth of activities on offer ensure that every child can develop new skills and new interests important to them. Through every strand of school life, we aim to promote our school ethos, which is tied fundamentally to the UN Rights of the child. Children learn the importance of respect, fairness, equality, democracy, tolerance, and kindness. A global understanding is nurtured through learning about our diverse community, international links, and regular charity projects. Children leave Springwell Infants academically ready for Junior education but also spiritually, morally, and culturally prepared to take on the next opportunities, responsibilities, and challenges that life offers. We are committed to ensuring that children develop the skills and acquire the knowledge to meet and surpass curriculum requirements. We set high standards, and we are focused on our efforts to help children meet those standards. We are also sensitive to the needs and learning patterns of different children and we try to inspire them to recognize their potential and work towards achieving these.
  10. At Sladefield Infant School we aim to give children a happy and confident start by welcoming both children and parents to our Induction Programme this includes a varied range of activities in the summer term, to prepare the children for the big and exciting event of starting school. In September, the Reception children begin school on a part-time basis initially, to settle them quickly and to develop good relationships. We are sure you will agree with our values which underpin everything that we do at Sladefield. Achievement Commitment Community Respect Equality Friendship Caring Enjoyment Trust Excellence Responsibility At Sladefield Infant School the promotion of SMSC and British values is not something new and the promotion of these values is in much of what we do. This starts with our school Values and Ethos and permeates right the way through the curriculum into every part of the school day. As well as actively promoting British Values and the development of SMSC the opposite also applies: we challenge pupils, staff, and parents/carers where opinions and behaviors which are contrary to these values are shown. Many pupils at Sladefield Infant School have a very limited personal experience of other cultures and faiths, therefore we feel that it is essential that we promote diversity and broaden our pupils’ experiences. We celebrate and learn about the differences between the diverse communities in Britain but always with a focus on what also makes us similar. Evidence of prejudice is challenged and dealt with and we have a comprehensive RE and PSHE curriculum which explores and gives value to the difference in detail. Sladefield Infant School is known in the community as a happy and caring school. We believe that all individuals within our school should feel valued and able to contribute to the well-being of the school. We want our children to know how to behave well towards each other, their teachers, their parents, and other adults and have respect for other people's property. Sladefield Infant School believes that children’s behavior and success in learning are intrinsically linked. Our school focuses on improving attitudes and behaviors that lead to a positive climate for learning which is underpinned by high-quality teaching, a stimulating learning environment, and culture of praise, recognition, and self-discipline. At Sladefield Infant School, we aim to provide a working environment where all members of the school community feel safe and secure. The policy aims to ensure this is achieved and aims to maintain the high quality of pupil behavior in our setting.
  11. Welcome to Rokesly Infant School, a warm, nurturing start on the learning path. Judged Good by Ofsted in June 2015, Rokesly has been the first step on children’s learning journey for over 75 years. We ensure children reach their potential in an environment where every child feels welcome and respected. ‘At Rokesly every child matters in every way. We take this Mission statement very seriously and we strive to maintain our high quality of teaching and learning, care and support offered to all Rokesly children. Our Vision statement outlines our values in more detail: "At Rokesly Infants we are committed to helping every child reach their full potential, by providing them with a broad, creative curriculum that values and reflects our diverse community enhances links between home, school, and the wider community through fostering a calm, caring, respectful atmosphere where every child matters". Welcome to Rokesly’s fantastic purpose-built nursery. The classrooms are big and bright with a lovely outdoor area that looks out onto the rest of the school. Each class is divided into different areas with clearly labeled resources to ensure easy access for the children. There are ‘wet’ areas, for things like sand, water, painting, and modeling and ‘dry’ areas for construction, role play, reading, mark-making, games, counting, and sorting. The children have access to computers, too. Each class also has a carpet area which we use for playing ring games, dancing, stories, and rhymes. It is the place where we sit every day, to have fruit, to sing and talk together. Our outdoor area is set up by us to mirror the indoor provision so that your child, who may prefer being outdoors, will have access to the same learning opportunities. Welcome to Rokesly’s amazing Reception classes! We do everything we can to ensure that the children in our Reception classes are happy, confident, and safe. This is so that those who prefer to be outside may have the same learning opportunities as those who play inside. Rokesly Nursery is a fun, creative, and friendly environment where the children are supported to play together, making them feel settled and happy to come to learn. We all play a part in making your child’s education a safe and happy one. Please share your child’s interests, experiences, and successes with us. We can celebrate these things with them to make them feel proud and confident in school. Sharing books, music, and artifacts from home all help to create a link that makes your child feel safe and supported. We are incredibly proud of the achievements of all our children at Rokesly. Our Reception classes are very child-centered and this is evident in our planning, which is based on our observations of the children, their interests, and their further development. We have a great outside area where children are supported as they learn through explorative play. This leads to an outdoor playground which children have free access to in all weathers. This is so that those who prefer to be outside may have the same learning opportunities as those who play inside. In our Reception classes last year, 73% of pupils achieved a Good Level of Development (Haringey 68% and national 66%) which is an indicator that children are successful in all areas of the curriculum and are prepared to access the next stage of their learning. In Year 2 last year 91% of pupils achieved at or above age expectations in Reading (Haringey 79% and National 76%) and 40% were working at Greater Depth in Reading (Haringey 30% and National 25%). 82% of pupils achieved at or above expectations in Writing (Haringey 74% and National 68%) and 33% were working at Greater Depth in Writing (20% Haringey and 16% national). 83% of pupils achieved at or above expectations in Maths (Haringey 79% and National 75%) and 33% were working at Greater Depth in Maths (26% Haringey and 21% National). 92% of pupils achieved the expected standard in Science (Haringey 84% and National 83%. To assist us when planning for your children’s learning, we use the Foundation Stage Curriculum. It sets out the areas of learning through which we plan a range of activities and provisions aimed at developing the whole child. We plan by playing with and observing the children find out their needs and interests. We use the information we find to decide what to set out and teach on a daily, weekly, and half-termly basis. Provision is constantly changing to provide lots of opportunities for the children to re-enforce their learning through self-initiated, free choice, and ‘adult focus’ activities. We also build our timetable to include cooking, using the hall, and getting out to explore our vegetable and wildlife garden regularly.

Our school is a happy place, where children feel secure, enjoy their learning, and develop respect for themselves, others, and the environment. We have high expectations, both socially and academically, and support every pupil in achieving their full potential. Roe Green Infant children usually progress onto Roe Green Junior School. Roe Green Junior School is a 'feeder school' for Kingsbury High School. The Department for Education states that there is a need “to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs”. At Roe Green Infant & Roe Green Strathcona School, we promote “British Values” through our spiritual, moral, social, and cultural curriculum which permeates throughout the school and helps support and nurture the “whole child”. This is demonstrated through our core Values and Ethos. Everyone at Roe Green Infant and Roe Green Strathcona embraces the core Values and Ethos and is proud to belong to the school. “At Roe Green Infant School we promote the basic British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance for those of different faiths and beliefs. “This ensures young people understand the importance of respect and leave school fully prepared for life in modern Britain.” We welcome, value, and share the cultures, traditions, and languages of all our families. We provide consistently high standards of teaching and learning and expect all children to do well. We teach children to be responsible, independent, and proud of themselves and to show respect for everyone in our community. To ensure the aims and values within the National Curriculum and the new EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) 2014 underpin all teaching and learning within the school. The importance of laws whether they are those that govern the class, the school, or the country, is consistently reinforced. Our school has ‘Classroom Rules’, which are deeply embedded in our work every day. Each class also has a traffic light system that is clearly understood by all and seen to be necessary to ensure that every class member can learn in a safe and ordered environment. Our pupils are taught the value and reasons behind laws, that they govern and protect us, the responsibilities that this involves, and the consequences when laws are broken. Respect is one of the core values of our school as can be seen on our school ethos tree. Our pupils adhere to these core values and ethos, and it is deeply embedded in all that we do at the school. The pupils know and understand that it is expected and imperative that respect is shown to everyone, whatever differences we may have and to everything, however big or small. The core value of Respect at Roe Green Infant School underpins our work every day both in and out of the classroom. Our core value of Respect ensures tolerance of those who have different faiths and beliefs. Roe Green Infant School enhances pupils' understanding of different faiths and beliefs through religious education studies, P.S.H.E. work, Inclusion week, themed faculty weeks, Language of the month, religious festival assemblies, and International evening celebrations. During Art Week the whole school has focused on a continent and each class has specifically focused on one country from that continent. Beliefs, traditions, and customs have been studied in-depth, with visitors being invited into our school to enrich and extend understanding. We have had a whole school theme on the topic of London. Through this, our pupils have gained an enhanced understanding of their place in a culturally diverse society. The school was first opened as Roe Green School on the 8th February 1932. On 11th September 1933, the junior and infant school separated to become Roe Green Infant School and Roe Green Junior School.

  21. Whitehall Infants is a special place where the staff is dedicated to providing a stimulating, exciting environment where everyone feels valued and safe, ideas can flourish and pupils can realize their full potential. Whatever the needs of your child and whatever special interests they have, we aim to ensure your child thrives at Whitehall Infants feeling safe, having fun, and enjoying success. Whitehall Schools, working in partnership with our community, are committed to providing quality education in a safe, supportive and stimulating environment. We value each person and encourage everyone to achieve their full potential. Our work as teachers begins by building on the numerous qualities and skills that you have fostered in your child at home. Parents are always welcome at Whitehall Infant School and are positively encouraged to become involved in school life in a variety of ways. Some parents like to make a regular commitment to help in a classroom others prefer to encourage their children at home by sharing books while some become involved with the Parents’ Association. Others do all three! As soon as your child joins the school you automatically become a member of the Parents’ Association. The Parents’ Association exists to work in partnership with the school, to represent parents’ views, and to operate as a fundraising body to generate funds for the benefit of the children allowing them to enhance their school experience with additional activities and entertainment. The PA organizes fairs and social events for our families and keeps in touch with regular meetings and communications via your child. The degree to which you become involved is optional but being part of the Parents’ Association brings you closer to the school, is a great way to meet other parents, and can be very rewarding. At Whitehall, there are opportunities for everyone to participate in whatever way suits them best. Your support is greatly appreciated and a source of encouragement to all the staff of the school as well as the children All our class groups have children with differing levels of ability in them, including children from different home backgrounds and those with special educational needs. While children are in class, the teacher may organize them into working groups according to their ages, interests, or levels of capability. This is to ensure that we are fully meeting the needs of all our children. Our school curriculum turns our aims into actions through the activities provided in school. Each day presents the children with a variety of experiences. Many of these are relevant to more than one subject and most teachers use a theme or topic approach to link subjects such as - Technology, Information Communication Technology, Geography, History, Art, Music, Science, Physical and Religious Education. English and Maths are taught as separate subjects following the guidelines of the Department for Education (DfE). In addition to these subjects, the children also learn about personal health and social education (PSHE), equal opportunities, and environmental education. Our expectations involve encouraging respect and care for all people, their feelings, and their property. This is perhaps the hardest thing we ask of children at such a young and active age. Self-discipline and consideration of others are not always easily acquired. We are firm and use behavior reinforcement to encourage good behavior and manners. We have a robust Behaviour Policy incorporating ‘Behaviour Steps’ which are available to view on our website and displayed in all of our classrooms and areas in the school.
  22. Our school is a happy, stimulating, and caring place and we expect high standards of behavior and good manners throughout the school. We endeavor to provide memorable experiences for our children. We continually encourage our children to explore, create and develop a real love of learning. We would be pleased to show you around Whiteheath Infant and Nursery School, for you to feel the friendly atmosphere here, allow you to see the children as they work and play together. We inspire, grow and recognize our achievements together”. Our school is: A safe and happy place to learn A vibrant community where we respect one another An inclusive environment where we develop a love of learning A place where everyone is challenged and their unique qualities are valued A setting where we develop logical and creative thinking Pupils are very happy, polite, welcoming to visitors, friendly, enthusiastic, caring towards each other and they behave very well around the school, in their lessons, and on the playground. They speak very highly of their school and its staff, for whom they have great respect and they know that they are listened to and cared for. Pupils enjoy learning and they explain how the teachers encourage and challenge them and make learning fun. There are opportunities for pupils to take on roles of responsibility in the school including the school council and the eco-warriors. We differentiate our teaching so that all children gain access to learning. All teaching takes into account the different abilities and maturities of the children. Every class has daily access to Teaching Assistants who provide individual and small group support. Teachers use a range of teaching styles and strategies. They ensure their teaching supports visual, auditory, and kinaesthetic learners (i.e. children who learn better by ‘doing’). The children work in a variety of ways including whole class teaching, group or pair work, individual teaching, collaborative learning, and ‘circle time’. As a ‘Thinking School,’ we aim to work with the children to build a toolbox of thinking strategies that will promote success in their learning. To help the children develop a positive approach to learning we teach Habits of Mind such as persevering, communicating with clarity, and striving for accuracy. Here's Mind maps are a set of visual tools we use for organizing ideas and information. De Bono’s 6 Thinking Hats helps the children to think in different ways for different tasks. Philosophy for Children develops a community of inquiry where questions are valued and explored. Good behavior is necessary for a happy, well-regulated school, where staff and children respect each other and effective learning and teaching can take place. We help our children to learn to be kind, helpful, understanding, and tolerant of others. We also encourage them to show self-discipline, a sense of responsibility, and self-confidence. Good behavior is a vital component of this and there we have a set of principles to ensure we can meet this aim. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We have very high expectations of behavior. We expect all staff, pupils and their parents to take collective responsibility for maintaining these high standards. At Whitehead Infant and Nursery School, we believe that each person is special. We believe that all children should have their needs identified, monitored, and addressed. This will ensure any child with SEN (special educational needs) will have the best possible educational experiences to support their level of learning within a broad and balanced curriculum.
  23. Walmley Infant School is a three-form entry school catering from three years of age in our Nursery class through to seven years of age in Year 2. We are committed to providing every child with the best possible educational experience with a broad and balanced curriculum. We make the time our children spend with us both creative and fulfilling in their learning journey. In everything, we do we have high expectations for all our learners. We believe that the partnership between parents/carers and the school is vital and actively encourages the community to become involved in the life of the school. At Walmley Infant School we believe in enhancing children’s knowledge and skills through the use of technology. At the forefront of our teaching and learning, the children’s safety whilst using technology is highly important. We teach the children to have an increased awareness of E-safety. The children are taught to take responsibility in keeping themselves safe whilst online both at school and at home. The internet is a wonderful resource to search for information, obtain pictures, talk to people from anywhere in the world and play games online. We can also share details and pictures with our families and friends and upload them instantly from any device (Desktop PC, Laptop, Tablet, or Mobile Phone). Upholding the traditions of British Values has always been part of our life and learning at Walmley Infant School. These values are reinforced throughout the school every day, in every class through our day-to-day routines and our curriculum. For example, democracy is a fundamental value in our ethos. The children vote for school councilors and librarians. The children who put themselves forward for these positions of responsibility are appointed as representatives of their class so that all children have the freedom to express their opinions and their voices can be heard, this is acknowledged and respected by adults.
  24. The school was established in 1931 by the Dominican Sisters to serve the needs of the new parish of Burnt Oak and the existing parishes of Edgware and Kingsbury Green where no Catholic schools existed. We celebrated our eightieth anniversary in 2011 and created a Prayer Garden, in the playground, to mark the occasion. The Annunciation Catholic Infant School is a two-form entry school with a maximum of 232 pupils on the roll (180in school and 52 Nursery pupils). 91% of Nursery pupils transfer to Reception classes in September with some pupils remaining on the waiting list for places. In September 2017, 70% of Reception pupils will have attended our Nursery and 30% of pupils will join our school from other Nursery settings mostly within Barnet. Two-thirds or more of our pupils come from the Burnt Oak Parish which is one of the most deprived areas in Barnet. The school continues to have an excellent reputation within the local area and has been consistently outstanding in all Ofsted inspections We share a commitment to the task of Catholic education based on Gospel values of love and respect for all. The diversity of our school community gives us ample opportunity to value and celebrate the languages and cultures of the children and develop an understanding of what constitutes British Values. Respect for one’s own and others’ cultural background underpins relationships and behavior We are a community of children, parents, teachers, governors, and priests belonging to the parishes of Annunciation, St. Anthony's, and SS Sebastian and Pancras. As a Catholic school, Christ is at the heart of our community, where everyone is valued and loved. We acknowledge the importance of our partnership with parents, parishes, and the wider community. We value the role played by parents and their involvement in the education of children and the work of the school. We are an inclusive school offering excellence and enjoyment in learning and teaching, a place where every child is special and where every child is encouraged to do their very best. We aim to deliver a creative curriculum, delivered by a highly skilled, caring, and professional staff. We continue to strive for excellence in all we do. We always remember, however, that our children are cherished for what they are, not for what they may be able to accomplish. As a Catholic school, we stress the centrality of Religious Education within the curriculum. Our school ethos is based on caring, sharing, kindness, and forgiveness and we aim to help the children develop a personal relationship with God. We recognize the importance of a strong partnership between home, school, and parish. This is encouraged through shared worship through the celebration of the Eucharist and class assemblies and liturgies to which parents are invited. We follow the ‘Come and See’ Religious Education Programme throughout the school. There are also many opportunities during the day to help the children discover and appreciate the beauty and mystery of God’s world. In 2011 we established our Prayer Garden, which was blessed by Cardinal Vincent Nichols, as part of our eightieth-anniversary celebrations. Our school ethos and Behaviour Policy incorporate the value of respect, and pupils have been part of discussions and assemblies related to what this means and how it is demonstrated in our school. Our school rules and aims promote respect and tolerance for others and this is reiterated through our classroom and learning rules, as well as our Behaviour Policy. We aim to enhance pupils’ understanding of their place in a culturally diverse society and by giving them opportunities to experience some of these differences. Assemblies and discussions involving prejudices and different forms of bullying have been followed and supported by learning in RE and PSHE. This has been celebrated through our ‘Other Faiths Weeks.’ Pupils are also encouraged to understand and reach out to communities who are less fortunate than themselves and each year raise significant amounts for charity, demonstrating their respect for those who live in very different circumstances to ours.

The school year is drawing to a close, and summer is surely on its way! We have had another busy, fantastic, and memorable year in St. Monica's. Thank you to all those parents who supported and co-operated with the running of the school by ensuring their children were "in the line at ten-to-nine" each day. Thank you to the staff who endeavored to make every day happy, productive, and safe for the children. And thank you most of all to the children themselves for all their hard work -their rest is most deserved! Congratulations to the First Class pupils, who have completed their time in St. Monica's and will now proceed to St. Eithne's GNS for the last five years of their primary education. We wish them luck and happiness in all that they do.
