  3. The State Tourism and Hotel Management School (SSSAT) trains managers and staff for the entire tourism industry, namely hotels, bars, restaurants, leisure-time management companies, travel, transport companies, etc. SSSAT is an institute of the Canton of Ticino, officially recognized by the Swiss Confederation, and is part of the commercial vocational School (ICEC) of Ticino's canton. Quality and service are the cornerstones of any business enterprise, particularly in the service sector and specifically in the tourist, hotel, and bar and restaurant industry. Here, the key to a successful relationship between the service provider and customers is an ongoing commitment to building and nurturing a hospitality culture. This must not be a one-time objective but an ongoing effort. People are the mainstay of any business, and cultivating their motivation, commitment, skills, and creativity are paramount. These are the critical ingredients for successful decision-making and innovative ideas at all levels, from company employees through middle management to top-level management. That is why we place people at the heart of all taught here at the State Tourism and Hotel Management School (SSAT). We aim to produce versatile middle managers and provide the sector with a stimulus for ongoing improvement. Finally, people (students, teachers, and business professionals) are also the driving force behind our School's commitments. Our School is a reference point and a venue for sectoral meetings to promote dialogue between economic stakeholders, the media, and the general public. The Hospitality Management section of SSAT trains middle managers to take on managerial roles in hotel establishments and collective households. Students receive comprehensive training taking into account current and future requirements of the Swiss and international hospitality sectors. The school theory classes—which comprise practical experience, case studies, and seminars—and work placements allow future managers to acquire professional skills on a practical and intellectual level. SSAT graduates are creative experts capable of motivating staff and managing a hotel. According to the official calendar, two semesters of classes (equivalent to one full school year) are divided into weeks of theory and practical experience weeks. Students take turns working in the separate kitchen in the School's training restaurant and provide support to gain hands-on experience in these critical segments of the bar and restaurant industry. Two semesters of practical experience: total duration of at least 40 weeks, holidays included. Two semesters of classes (graduation year), for a total duration of 36 weeks divided into theoretical classes and practical and analytical projects up to two extra-semesters of practical experience, only for students that do not have, at the time of graduation, at least two years of professional experience. After passing their first year's examinations, students are required to undertake a work placement at a company in the relevant sector under the supervision of qualified managerial staff capable of ensuring observance of the training program set for the trainee, as prescribed by the relevant Swiss federal ordinance. This requirement is laid down in special regulations issued by the School's Management and approved by the Supervisory Committee. Enrolment forms are to be duly signed and submitted along with copies of the requested certificates. All submissions must be sent by registered post and must be received by the end of May of the year in which the courses are due to begin. The Tourism Management section of SSAT trains tourism managers to take on managerial roles in companies in the tourism industry such as tour operators, travel agencies, airlines, tourist transport companies, holiday villages, tourist offices, etc. Students who complete the cycle of studies and pass the final examinations are awarded the title of "Diploma of Swiss tourism specialist HF/ES/SSS," a title recognized by the Swiss Confederation and EU member states under bilateral agreements Switzerland EU. The subjects in this department are divided into four groups: necessary skills (Italian, English, German, French, communication, information technology, statistics) business management (marketing, business management, accounting, law, human resources) tourism (tourism management, tourism geography, and ecology, tourism economics, tourism anthropology, reservation systems, cultural and territorial assets) case studies and projects SSAT is a training institute whose objective is to train young people to become middle managers in companies operating in the tourism industry. Since 1998, SSAT also offers continuous training for management operating in tourism and hospitality. SSAT's Continuing Education section provides such courses in in-service training, seminars, and workshops. In addition to providing training, the SSAT has been tasked by the Canton of Ticino with managing the School's restaurant and bar/refreshment area. Students, teachers, and State employees can choose from a diverse range of gastronomic offerings and use our self-service facilities. The restaurant and snack bar are open on school days. 4. Study your hospitality degree on a pristine campus in the Swiss Alps, surrounded by a close-knit community and spectacular scenery. You can immerse yourself in rich student life, enjoy a wealth of outdoor activities, and explore culture and gastronomy in Switzerland and beyond. Hospitality has a long and rich history in Switzerland. Around a hundred and fifty years ago, palace-style hotels were built across the Montreux Riviera, heralding the beginning of the golden age of luxury tourism in Switzerland. Royalty, aristocrats, and millionaires traveled in their thousands to the country, lured by its healthy climate and alpine adventure promise. Such guests naturally pushed for a high level of service and excellence that needed a drastic shift in how hotel operations were conducted. Hoteliers had to innovate in their approach to secure customer satisfaction and return on investment. They began to structure and systematize the management and operational processes in order to meet guest expectations. The Swiss brought many skills into the hospitality approach, including rigor, precision, attention to detail, timely service, and discretion that were already characteristic of the culture of other sectors within Switzerland, such as watchmaking and banking. So perfect is the match between these skill sets and high-demand customer expectations. Companies from the so-called experience economy sectors are just as likely as hotels and restaurants to seek graduates of the Swiss hospitality education model. The first National Hotel Association and hotel school's birthplace, Switzerland, is at the forefront of hospitality education and professionalism. With precision, detail, and excellence at its core, Swiss hospitality training's quality and rigor are well known across the world and among international employers. Leading companies recruit Swiss-educated managers for their high standards and innovative approaches to global business challenges. In the region, the Swiss Alps and Valais offer year-round outdoor sports and cultural activities such as skiing, hiking, festivals, and wine tasting. Urban explorers can discover the new cities of Geneva, Zurich, Bern, and Lausanne, each with their beautiful center and plenty of shopping, restaurants, bars, spas, and nightclubs. From nearby Sierre train station, Switzerland's world-famous railway network connects you to Geneva Airport and destinations across Switzerland and beyond. France, Italy, Austria, and Germany are all nearby, providing plenty of options for a perfect weekend getaway. From Geneva airport, a two-hour flight takes you almost anywhere in Western Europe. The Taco Bar, B3, and Café du Village provide a relaxed space for students to chat over a drink or a meal, such as restaurants, bars, and clubs in nearby Crans-Montana. The school organizes various social and cultural activities in collaboration with students, both on and off-campus. One of the most anticipated events of each semester is Cultural Night, a bi-annual culinary and artistic celebration of the school's nationalities. Les Roches students can participate in various sports and fitness activities on and off-campus, including basketball, rugby, tennis, dance, fitness classes, swimming, golf, skiing, snowboarding, paragliding, ice skating, sledding, sailing, hiking, and rock climbing. You can also explore culture, gastronomy, and more by joining campus-led group trips — past trips include visits to cheese and chocolate factories and trips to Bern and Milan. The curriculum at Les Roches is proudly based on the Swiss model of experiential learning, and learning by doing is at the heart of our programs. Through this blend of academic excellence, hands-on learning, and real-world challenges, students develop a 360-degree understanding of hospitality business management. Les Roches has excellent ties with the industry, and Les Roches graduates are in demand. Each year, top-tier brands in hospitality and beyond come to our campuses to recruit students for internships and full-time jobs. Also, key faculty members and our industry advisory board ensure that graduates have the skills to meet tomorrow's industry needs. With all the charm of a Swiss village, our campus buildings also feature state-of-the-art learning equipment. Learning facilities provide ample space for students to collaborate and get hands-on experience. Students have access to computer rooms, demonstration kitchens, a demonstration bar, a rooms division demonstration area, auditoriums, a library with a study room, and a media center among our campus facilities. The campus also has a dedicated Innovation Lab, where students can experiment with the latest technology for class projects, extracurricular activities, and more. 8.

  13. The Estoril Higher Institute for Tourism and Hotel Studies (Escola Superior de Hotelaria e Turismo do Estoril – ESHTE), created in 1991 (Law-Decree no. 374/91, dated 8th October), is a public polytechnic higher education institution under the tutelage of the Ministry of Education and Science. ESHTE’s statutes, published on 1st September 2008, reinforce its nature as an institute with management autonomy and emphasize ESHTE’s role in the development, transmission, and dissemination of highly qualified knowledge and training in the areas of tourism, hospitality, and catering. As a center for the development of tourism and hospitality activities, both in education and applied research, ESHTE has always been actively engaged with the business sector to adapt its teaching/learning practices to the requirements of the labor market and thus facilitate the employability of its graduate students. ESHTE’s cultural and vocational training aims at preparing future professionals that can successfully respond to the challenges and opportunities of the tourism sector, in a context of strong competitiveness and underlying uncertainty ESHTE’s location in the tourism area of Lisbon, Cascais, and Estoril, as well as the exceptional training facilities in which it undertakes its activities, contribute to reinforce its training and research offer in the areas of tourism, hospitality, and catering. ESHTE’s curricula include compulsory internships at public and private sector companies and institutions, which ensure that students have the opportunity to consolidate their experience and know-how through on-job training. This contributes to the establishment of a closer link with the business sector and allows for the constant adaptation of curricula and methodologies to the requirements of the labor market. These links with business are also strengthened by regular research visits undertaken throughout the academic year and the organization of thematic conferences, talks, congresses, and workshops with speakers from different tourism segments. In addition, ESHTE has established various agreements with public and private institutions such as hotels, travel agencies, catering and entertainment companies, city councils, as well as other local, regional, and national public entities, which have generated the development of joint projects, events, and strategies that contribute to students’ employability and enable students to transfer knowledge acquired at ESHTE to the work environment and vice-versa. Moreover, the fact that ESHTE has an Advisory Board composed of members of tourism’s institutional, business, and vocational areas ensures a more formal and permanent relationship between the school’s activities and those conducted in the market. This concern has also led to the creation of a careers and employment service (ESHTEmprego) that disseminates job and training offers to alumni and students. This rationale of opening ESHTE to the external community is further emphasized in the development of applied research (e.g. European funded projects or agreements with the public entities in the tourism sector). ESHTE has established bilateral agreements with over 20 European institutions that promote student and staff mobility exchange within the scope of the Socrates/Erasmus programs, as well as other agreements with universities in Brazil, Macao, and Camerino. ESHTE is also a member of different associations, both as a regular institutional member and as a member of their executive committees. These include AMFORHT (World Association for Hospitality and Tourism Education and Training) ATLAS (Association for Tourism and Leisure Education) EURHODIP (International Association supporting Hospitality and Tourism Education and Training) and EUHOFA (International Association of Hotel Schools).
