    The Institute of Higher Technology, constituting the foundation of EMU, is established. The Institute of Higher Technology starts providing education with the Departments of Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering, offering 3-year programs to 105 students to educate an intermediate workforce between an engineer and a technician and issue a ‘technician-engineer’ diploma to successful students.
    With its highly developed infrastructure, prominent academic staff members, 20,000 students from 106 and 1,100 academics from 35 different countries, quality programs in English, the opportunity of learning a second foreign language, student exchange programs, rich sports, social and cultural activity opportunities, international accreditations, an international teaching context, and a diploma recognized throughout the world, EMU prepares its students for their international careers by educating them in becoming creative and competitive individuals with entrepreneurial skills.
    EMU has offered quality education through 100 undergraduate and school programs and 81 postgraduate and doctoral degree programs provided by 11 faculties, five schools, and Foreign Languages and English Preparatory School. The Eastern Mediterranean University has set as a mission becoming a university acting in line with universal values, guided by internationally recognized academic educational criteria, providing solutions for regional and international problems with a sense of social responsibility, raising graduates who have internalized multiculturalism, free thought, tolerance, and participation as well as carrying out work to make international improvements in the fields of production, science, arts, and sports.
    The vision of Eastern Mediterranean University is to provide high-quality education based on scientific production and to become a leading and the most preferred university by students and academic staff within its unique geographical location which joins three continentsEMU is a full member of the International Association of Universities, the European University Association, Community of Mediterranean Universities and the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World. Giving particular importance to international recognition, EMU has received the accreditation of various prominent international accrediting bodies. EMU is only one of five universities in the region to have been awarded the prestigious ABET (Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology) in engineering.
    Similarly, EMU Architecture Faculty holds the MİAK accreditation. Business and Economics Faculty, Tourism Faculty, and School of Computing and Technology have been granted the accreditation of FIBAA. AQAS accredited education Faculty in English Language Teaching (ELT) Department. Additionally, EMU School of Tourism and Hospitality Management gained the accreditation of TEDQUAL, and the Computer Technologies and Information Systems offered by the School of Computing and Technology (SCT) successfully passed the ASIIN accreditation process. EMU Foreign Languages and English Preparatory School have successfully obtained EDEXCEL accreditation. Last but not least, our University’s Business and Economics Faculty is a full member of EFMD and AACSB and only three universities in Turkey.
