Children attend Nursery for either a morning or afternoon session. Each session can take up to 26 children. Children are admitted to Primary School in the September of the academic year that they turn 5. Our maximum admission into any one-year group is 60. All prospective parents are very welcome to come and look around the school – just call into the office or phone to make an appointment. Once children have been allocated a place, we will contact parents to set up a series of meetings. Joseph Clarke School and Service is situated in Waltham Forest and is a center of excellence for vision impairment in the South East of England. We are a day-maintained special school and service for pupils with vision impairment and additional or complex needs. We also offer a small number of places for pupils with communication difficulties, including autism, who are not vision impaired. We have places for 100 pupils. All students have a Statement of Special Educational Needs or are admitted on an assessment basis. We currently have pupils traveling in from 12 different London Boroughs, Essex, and Herts. Whitefield Academy Trust also runs the Joseph Clarke Educational Service, works in Waltham Forest, Enfield, Barking and Dagenham, and Redbridge. The staff there support over 450 pupils with vision difficulties in a range of pre-school, school, and FE placements. All of our staff are creative and hard-working. We have developed strong partnerships with families and carers and will always place the needs of our children and young people at the heart of all we do. We have a strong sense of community and believe that by caring for and supporting each other we become stronger. John Willmott School is a very popular comprehensive school (serving pupils between the age of 11 and 18) on the outskirts of Sutton Coldfield in Birmingham. Founded in the name of Alderman John Willmott of Sutton Coldfield, John Willmott Grammar School (JWGS) was opened in 1958 as a co-educational Grammar School for 700 pupils. At the time of opening in 1959, the school building was award-winning. Today, John Willmott School has approximately 1,100 pupils including 150 sixth formers and over 140 staff. John Donne is an Academy Primary School. Our main aims at John Donne Primary School are to enable all pupils: To improve on their previous best. To be happy in school and to find pleasure in learning. To live in an ethos of fairness, honesty, and mutual respect among all members of the school community. To develop self-discipline and a positive self-image. To be prepared for the next stage in their academic career and life. We are happy about the awards: "Healthy Schools", "International School Award". We taught about healthy eating, across all of the year groups, in both classes and assemblies. We ran healthy food events, enabling the children to create healthy recipes and food. The school travel plan was updated annually, and through this, we have been able to provide bicycle racks for both staff and students throughout the school. The school promoted Walk On Wednesdays (WOW), encouraging children to walk with their parents and carers to school. The children were given badges and stickers for participation. Children gain more exercise from walking to school. They are happier and more alert when they arrive at school, giving them a positive start to the day. All children have an understanding of what it means to be healthy and can make healthier choices, both inside and outside of school time. Because of the Travel Plan, the traffic outside the school gates has been slowed down, using a rise in the road, and no paring lines and signs have been added, to create a safer entrance for the children. Pupil Health and Well-Being are important to us at John Donne Academy and we are proud to collaborate around this theme with London South Bank University, Alfred Salter Primary School, Club Pulse Goldsmiths, and universities and schools in Greece and Gran Canaria. This is part of our 2-year Erasmus+ partnership project work, supported by the EU. We achieved the International School Award thanks to the help of the wonderful community we have around our school. As we are a very multicultural school we are very fortunate to be able to share this. The children are more aware that there is a larger world outside of their immediate community and can respect all different cultures. They are interested in finding out more about these cultures and comparing them to their own. Our topic is: "‘Transport’. The children will be learning about different types of transport and ways to travel in the world around us. Each week we will focus on different ways to get around, focussing on transport in our local environment, sea travel, and travel by air. Children now have an Independent Learning project book. At John Chilton School, we strive for the development of confident, motivated, and independent learners in a sociable, safe and accessible environment supported by communication and engagement between home, school and partnerships. We aim for this for our pupils and they make us proud every day as they achieve this. They support each other through the roles we have created: Lift Buddy, Wheelchair Buddy, Ambassador, as well as through the empowering environment we create. The DfE have reinforced the need “to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.” Our school’s values, vision, and aims incorporate British Values and are strengthened throughout the curriculum and the school day. By scrutinizing teaching and learning in these different ways we can build up a fuller picture of the quality of provision in our school. It helps us to understand where and how we can improve and what staff development and learning we need to provide. The children and young people at John Chilton School have severe or moderate learning difficulties many have additional physical and sensory needs. This can affect the chances for them and their families to access social and leisure activities. The aims of the curriculum are to: Provide a broad and balanced creative curriculum to ensure children develop a range of knowledge, skills, and understanding. Enable children to develop the skills and attributes needed to be successful learners. Promote high standards in reading, writing, and maths. Encourage creative thinking and problem-solving. Provide opportunities for speaking and listening activities such as debates and discussions as well as risk-taking and inquiry so children actively take responsibility for their learning and development. Encourage children to be self-reflective about themselves and their work. Provide stimulating, engaging lessons, which spark children’s interest in learning and develop a love of learning. Promote the school values so that children develop empathy for others and are encouraged to develop spiritually and morally. In Key Stages 1 and 2, The National Curriculum is followed which comprises 3 core subjects and the Foundation subjects. The core subjects are English, Maths, and Science. The Foundation subjects are Art, Design Technology, Geography, History, ICT, Music, Physical Education, Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) including Citizenship and Religious Education. John Burns welcomes pupils from all religious backgrounds and this is reflected in our multi-faith R.E. curriculum and assemblies. Pupils are encouraged to share their religious beliefs and customs to celebrate the school’s cultural diversity. Parents have the right to withdraw their child from R.E. lessons or assemblies with a written request to the Headteacher. Daily lessons of English and Maths are taught in Key Stages 1 and 2. The Nursery Curriculum covers the seven areas of learning as listed in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). These areas are Communication and Language, Physical Development, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, and Expressive Arts and Design. The Nursery fosters children’s learning through a program of structured play that supports and extends children’s early development. We are fortunate at John Burns to have a spacious outdoor play and garden area, which is used for exploring the natural world as well as providing opportunities for physical development. The Reception year builds upon and extends the children’s experience in the Nursery, gradually moving towards a more structured program and incorporating daily Literacy and Numeracy lessons.
