King’s Park Secondary School is a six-year non-denominational school on the south side of Glasgow serving Cathcart, King’s Park, Mount Florida, and Simshill. For many years the school has had a well-deserved reputation as a very good educational establishment which has provided a high standard of education for all its pupils and has high expectations of its pupils. The current staff comprises 61 fte teachers (including 4 probationer teachers), 6 instrumental teachers, 6 Clerical Assistants, 3 Technicians, 1 Librarian, 1 Education Liaison Officer, and 2 Janitorial Staff. The Area Business Support Manager (ABSM) and the Admin and Finance Assistant (AFA) also support the school. The Senior Management Team consists of the Head Teacher, 4 Depute Head Teachers. There are 11 Principal Teachers/Faculty Heads (Curriculum) 5 Principal Teachers of Pupil Support and Pastoral Care. The Parent Partnership is very active and supportive of the school. About 15% of the pupils come from ethnic minority backgrounds and where necessary receive support in English as a second language. Many pupils from outwith the catchment area come to the school as a result of placing requests. The school, which first opened in 1962, is designed around 3 buildings. It has undergone a major refurbishment and installation of extensive ICT facilities. The main teaching block contains English, Mathematics, Modern Languages, Social Studies and Religious Education, Computing, Art and Design, Business Education, and Pupil Support. A second block houses Home Economics, Sciences, Technical Education and Music. The third block contains Physical Education, Assembly and Dining Halls, and the administration and management accommodation. Playing field provision is limited and extensive use is made of recreational facilities out with the school. Kingfisher Hall was opened in September 2012 by CHAT, under the Government’s free school initiative.
