Rhos Primary is situated in the semi-rural village of Rhos on the edge of the Swansea Valley and is approximately 2 miles above the town of Pontardawe. Our school serves the areas of Delffordd, Maes-y-Cornel, Cae Rhedyn, March Hywel, and the hamlets of Cilybebyll and Gellinudd. The immediate environment of the school is farmland, hillsides, and valleys. Together with the school's large playground and grassed areas, this helps give the school its unique character and culture. Pupils from Rhos Primary School will usually move on to Cwmtawe Community School after Year 6, a short distance away in Pontardawe. Rhos Primary consists of three buildings:- The Old School (1908) which has 3 classrooms, a Multimedia room/library, a ‘Green Screen’ room, and a reflection/quiet room. The Lower Building houses the Foundation Phase and also contains the kitchen, hall, school offices, staff room. The demountable is used for storage and as extra classroom space for different groups of pupils. “When a child attends school regularly, they take an important step towards reaching their full potential, and are given the greatest opportunity to learn new things and develop their skills.” Good attendance is intrinsic to achieving the best outcomes possible for individual learners. We have an Educational Welfare Officer (EWO) whose role is to provide help and support to families where regular school attendance is an issue. Rendcomb College dates back to 1920 when it was founded by Frederick Noel Hamilton Wills whose uncle and cousins had earlier endowed buildings at Bristol University. While the school draws closer to its centenary, we maintain a vision and ethos that remains true to Wills’ original values of providing an inclusive and broad-ranging education for our pupils. There has been a house and a church in Rendcomb since the 12th Century and were both rebuilt in the late 17th Century. The house and estate were owned by the Berkeley Family until the early 20th Century and were first put on sale in 1913. Frederick Noel Hamilton Wills purchased the village and houses in 1918 and alongside J H Simpson as Headmaster, Noel Wills opened the school for twelve boys in June 1920. Girls were introduced into Rendcomb College’s Sixth Form in 1972 and the school became fully co-educational in 1992. The Junior School was opened in 2000 and the Nursery opened in 2005 providing a continuous education at Rendcomb College from the age of 3 to 18. Regina Coeli Catholic Primary School is a Voluntary Aided Primary School within the Archdiocese of Southwark and in partnership with the London Borough of Croydon. The school is usually oversubscribed – it has a maximum of 420 pupils with approximately 30 pupils per class. At Reedham Park we prove that an excellent independent education need not cost you a fortune.
