Roman Road is a medium-sized Primary school that celebrates the diverse community it serves in the heart of East London. We are largely a two-form entry Primary school, with plans to become three-form in the coming years. We also have a 52 place Nursery and a Pre-School which caters to children between the ages of 2 and 3. The majority of our children live in and represent our local area which is rich in its diversity. The School has undergone some major changes in the past few years. The original building which was built back in the 1970s has been enhanced by the construction of three additional blocks. These comprise 18 new classrooms, a new library new office space, and a modern sports hall. At Roman Road, we encourage the pursuit of excellence academically, socially, and spiritually. There are systems in place to support safeguarding, this includes designated safeguarding staff, a code of conduct, staff training, and policies related to behavior, safety, positive handling, and child protection. Rokesly has moved to a topic-based approach to learning. Research has shown that topic-based learning helps children learn for a purpose, which is both more fun and more effective. In this approach, literacy, geography, history, design and technology and other subjects can all be linked to one topic per half term. Sometimes numeracy can also be included or it may be taught as a separate subject. Since skills and facts are not learned in isolation from each other, children make connections and remember them better. For instance, children whose topic covers one country will study the history of that country, how people live today, contributions that the country’s people have made to science and the country’s geography. Many different skills are covered by this approach: writing, reading, learning about maps and different terrains, building models (part of design and technology), and using computers for research and projects. Each year group has topics geared towards a range of interests to engage children. We have strong international links with both Spain and France. Our modern foreign language is French and every class in the school learns this language throughout the year. Our Reception classes are very child-centered and this is evident in our planning, which is based on our observations of the children, their interests, and their further development. We have a great outside area where children are supported as they learn through explorative play. This leads to an outdoor playground which children have free access to in all weathers. This is so that those who prefer to be outside may have the same learning opportunities as those who play inside. In our Reception classes last year, 73% of pupils achieved a Good Level of Development (Haringey 68% and national 66%) which is an indicator that children are successful in all areas of the curriculum and are prepared to access the next stage of their learning. In Year 2 last year 91% of pupils achieved at or above age expectations in Reading (Haringey 79% and National 76%) and 40% were working at Greater Depth in Reading (Haringey 30% and National 25%). 82% of pupils achieved at or above expectations in Writing (Haringey 74% and National 68%) and 33% were working at Greater Depth in Writing (20% Haringey and 16% national). 83% of pupils achieved at or above expectations in Maths (Haringey 79% and National 75%) and 33% were working at Greater Depth in Maths (26% Haringey and 21% National). 92% of pupils achieved the expected standard in Science (Haringey 84% and National 83%. To assist us when planning for your children’s learning, we use the Foundation Stage Curriculum. It sets out the areas of learning through which we plan a range of activities and provisions aimed at developing the whole child. We plan by playing with and observing the children find out their needs and interests. We use the information we find to decide what to set out and teach on a daily, weekly, and half-termly basis. Provision is constantly changing to provide lots of opportunities for the children to re-enforce their learning through self-initiated, free choice, and ‘adult focus’ activities. Rokeby is a happy school with good relationships between students and their peers and between students and the staff. It is also a busy and exciting school committed to high standards in achievement and behavior. We see the fact that our students come from many backgrounds and many cultures from all over the world as a positive asset. This same multi-culturalism is reflected in our staff many of whom have joined us from Europe, Africa, Australasia, the Middle East, and Asia. One of our priorities at Rokeby is to ensure that parents and carers are kept properly informed of their son’s progress in clear and simple language. We hold an annual consultation evening for each year group when parents and carers are allowed to meet with individual subject teachers. This is an important event on our calendar and we hope that all parents and carers can attend. However, parents can contact tutors anytime/throughout the year for an update on their child’s progress. Throughout the year we also hold a series of curriculum evenings. Each focuses on one or two subjects, such as mathematics and humanities, intending to help parents and carers to understand what and how students are learning in school and how they can be supported with homework outside of school. All students are encouraged to work hard and do their best at Rokeby. To help them achieve this we maintain a careful check on each individual’s progress. Students who demonstrate high standards of effort, progress, or attainment receive merits and certificates throughout each term. Should any student’s work or behavior slip below the acceptable standard, parents and carers will be asked to come into school to discuss how we can work together to address the problem/s. Teachers regularly assess each student’s work and students are also given regular opportunities to make their self-assessment of their progress. All this careful monitoring enables students and their teachers to realize promptly if an individual is not performing to the best of his capabilities. We encourage our students to aim high and make the best of their abilities. With hard work and the support of the entire staff, all students at Rokeby can achieve their challenges and targets. Students have access to supervised study facilities before and after school. All students in years 7 to 11 remain on-site at lunchtime and there are additional areas set aside for study at this time. To encourage student involvement in the running of the school, there is a Student Council. Here, boys can voice their opinions and make suggestions for improvements and changes in aspects of school life. We expect all of our students at Rokeby to behave well and follow the school expectations. Students are helped to learn how to take personal responsibility for their actions. Students work towards having an excellent record of attendance and punctuality. There is a friendly atmosphere at the school based upon trust and co-operation and staff is supportive of students. Religious Studies are part of the school curriculum but do not include instruction in any particular religion. Rogiet, situated alongside the Severn Estuary, is a village steeped in history. Much of the past development occurred because of its proximity to the railway at Severn Tunnel Junction present expansion results from easy access to the M4 corridor and Second Severn Crossing. Rogiet Primary School caters to pupils aged 4 to 11 years of age. Our current catchment area is Rogiet, Highmoor Hill, Five Lanes, and Caerwent. In November 2009, the school moved into a brand new building. The building displays many state-of-the-art features and, in 2010, was awarded the BREEAM Excellence Awards for the UK and Wales, scoring a rating of 78.18%. This award acknowledges the school building as having the highest rating for Sustainability of any other School or Educational building in the country. The building was designed by White Design Ltd. and constructed by Willmott Dixon. Both of these companies worked very closely with the pupils, staff, and local community to ensure that everyone’s opinions and ideas for the new school were addressed. The pupils, through the school council and older pupils, requested the inclusion of many Eco-friendly features including solar panels, energy-efficient lighting, and a wind turbine. They even picked the color schemes! Children and staff watched the complete process of the school build and were regularly invited onto the site by Willmott Dixon’s team. We are a one-form entry, Voluntary Aided School located in the heart of Roehampton since 1828. A portion of this area was appropriated as a site for an elementary school and the remainder is being used for the new buildings of the Kingsbury County School together with a playing field. The school was first open as Roe Green School on the 8th February 1932. On 11th September 1933, the junior and infant school separated to become Roe Green Infant School and Roe Green Junior School. The staff in the Junior school consisted of the Head Master, Mr. A. Johnson, and ten assistant teachers. Roe Green Junior school is a vibrant multi-cultural and multi-faith school in the very diverse London Borough of Brent. At Roe Green Juniors we respect the diversity of backgrounds of all our pupils. The acknowledgment that all people are to be valued regardless of beliefs, background, or ethnic origin is embedded in the core values that underpin our school. ‘To create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.’ Throughout their time at Roe Green Juniors, pupils are taught about the school’s core values based on the Olympic and Paralympic values, namely Courage, Friendship, Equality, Excellence, Inspiration, Determination and Respect Pupils are taught the value and reasons behind rules and laws that they govern and protect us, the responsibilities that this involves, and the consequences when laws are broken. Visits from authorities such as the police and Transport police help reinforce this message. At Roe, Green pupils are actively encouraged to make choices knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment. Pupils are supported to develop their self-knowledge, self-esteem, and self-confidence. Pupils are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms and advised how to exercise these safely, for example through our e-safety teaching and PSHCE lessons. Vulnerable pupils are protected and stereotypes challenged. A strong anti-bullying culture is embedded in the school and any form of bullying is challenged and addressed. The school also operates a robust system of logging incidents. At Roe Green Juniors we believe that a healthy school is successful in helping pupils to do their best and build on their achievements. We are committed to the ongoing improvement and development of children in all areas of their lives. We promote physical and emotional health by providing accessible and relevant information and equipping pupils with the skills and attitudes to make informed decisions about their health and well-being. Our school motto, ‘Be the Best You Can Be’, supports this ethos. During our last OFSTED inspection, the extent to which our pupils adopt healthy lifestyles was considered to be ‘outstanding’. We continue to make this a priority in our school and encourage children to be both physically and mentally healthy. Healthy living is explored through a variety of curriculum areas, such as Science, PSHCE, PE, and DT, as well as through themed days, visits, and workshops. For example, Year 3 undertake a healthy living day with the organization ‘A-Life,’ which looks at diet and exercise to maintain a healthy body. Children are encouraged to exercise in a variety of ways during playtimes. This includes the use of playground equipment, football, and the adventure garden. Welcome to Roe Green Infant School. Roe Green Infant School is a Community school, catering to children between the ages of three and seven. The school consists of the Early Years Foundation Stage (Nursery and Reception) and Key Stage One (Year One and Year Two). Apart from the Nursery, which has 40-morning places and 40-afternoon places, the year groups are each arranged into 4 mixed ability classes of 30 children. Rodney House School provides school places for children with an EHC plan stating 'Specialist support' and a city-wide Outreach service that supports Early Years children and their families. The service also offers training and support to daycare providers. Rodney House is a welcoming community that helps all children to reach their full potential. We are a unique school. We offer support to approximately 300 children at any one time. 60 through school places and the rest through outreach service. We aim to provide a safe, caring environment where all achievement is valued and celebrated. Rodney House aims to create and maintain a safe learning environment where all children and adults feel safe, secure, and valued and know they will be listened to and taken seriously. Our school is committed to the principles outlined in 'Working Together to Safeguard Children 2015' and implements policies, practices, and procedures which promote safeguarding and the emotional and physical well-being of children, young people, and staff. At Rodney House, the majority of pupils follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum' Development Matters. We tailor activities to meet the development needs of the child. he Prime Areas of development underpin children's learning. They are delivered continuously throughout the school day. Repetition of activities throughout the year ensures children have the opportunity to consolidate and develop their skills. At all levels, children are encouraged to be independent learners. Learning outside the classroom allows children to develop and apply independence and life skills. We regularly take trips into the local community such as visiting the supermarket with a shopping list or practicing walking independently on a visit to the park. Parents and carers are always welcome to join our educational visits. To provide first-hand experiences, classes will often conduct an educational visit linked to provide a real experience of the topic being explored in the classroom. This practical experience supports children's understanding of their topic. For example, a visit to a garden center may take place to support learning about growing and spring. Some children and young people unwittingly manage to rack up hundreds of pounds of charges with sneaky ‘in-app purchases. The game itself may be free to download from your app store but some games use in-app purchases like buying extra lives, add-ons, or simply to keep playing to generate income. Children, especially those with SEN can easily mistake the purchase warnings for play money. Rodney House provides a valuable outreach service to families and settings of children aged 0-5 across the city. We deliver termly Early Years SENCO Networks covering a range of topics and updates to support EY SEND practice. Our service is part of a city-wide initiative involving the Primary and High Specialist Support Schools and other Specialist provisions. The service is highly valued throughout the Local Authority as shown by the high demand for the service and the very positive evaluations of work already carried out. Each half term a topic booklet will be sent home containing ideas of how to support your child's learning at home. Visual timetables are used in all classes at Rodney House. They are an effective strategy for supporting children to know what is happening next and during the day. On October 31st, 2016 Rodney House School Longsight opened to pupils for the first time. Pupils, parents, and staff were prepared for the move by sharing a transition book and visiting while the final refurbishment of the building took place.
