  1. Rosemead School was started in Thornlaw Road, London. SE27. As far as we know the school existed by 1936 and it may well have started a year or two before. Children can join our Nursery at any point from 2 years and 6 months old. All children are assessed during an informal 2-hour play session before entry to the Nursery. At Rosemead, we feel that children embarking on “the best years of their lives” should do so as happy, confident people. The philosophy of learning through play continues in the Reception year. The children are also introduced to a more formal approach to language, literature, and mathematics, with an emphasis on the teaching of phonics and correct letter formation. Mathematical learning combines practical activities and a published scheme. Specialist teaching begins in the Foundation Stage in music, PE, Spanish, and ICT. Children spend two full years in Key Stage 1 in mixed ability classes. Our syllabus has been carefully devised and is based on the National Curriculum, which builds on the areas covered during the Foundation Stage. Since it is the vehicle to facilitate most of the children’s learning, we support a structured approach to the teaching of reading at Rosemead and use the phonetic alphabet alongside our reading schemes. A wide range of reading material suits readers of all abilities. We expect pupils to become independent readers by the age of 7, and additional reading staff helps the children to achieve this. Our well-experienced staff creates a nurturing environment at the same time as promoting independence and high expectations of behavior. Our high adult: child ratio allows us to tailor learning to every child’s individual needs. There are seven areas of learning and development. All areas of learning and development are important and inter-connected. Three areas are particularly crucial for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, and for building their capacity to learn, form relationships, and thrive. How children engage with other people and their environment – playing and exploring, active learning, and creating and thinking critically – underpin learning and development across all areas and support the child to remain an effective and motivated learner.
  2. Rosemary Works School is an independent co-educational primary school, with a pre-school nursery class, taking children from the age of 3 to 11 years old. Open from 8 am to 6 pm 49 weeks per year, our term-time education is supplemented with excellent Out of School clubs and a holiday playscheme. We are a private, fee-paying school – sometimes referred to as a preparatory, or prep school. We are non-selective at entry yet our children achieve the highest level of academic attainment at all years up to 11+. We have an excellent track record in helping our pupils achieve success in their applications for selective secondary schools. Our unique Independent primary school located on the Islington & Hackney border takes a different approach to teaching and learning. So when we work with our children, we promote transferable skills, the ability to time-manage, independent thought, and a sense of how important every individual is, which makes for a well-rounded, happy child – essential for growth. We are a preparatory school where our innovative and interesting curriculum is designed to capture the imagination, and allow the children to thrive academically. We also emphasize the development of the children’s non-cognitive skills, such as motivation, resilience, persistence, and understanding the value of making mistakes. This way the children can develop their independence, self-discipline, self-respect, and respect for others in a secure environment where getting things wrong is not a failure, but a part of the process of learning. Rosemary Works is a place where your child can develop qualities of empathy and personal responsibility. We strongly believe that children learn best in a secure and loving environment, where they feel part of a community, and know everyone around them. A warm, caring and affectionate approach informs every child’s education with us. We do not believe that this nurturing climate should be confined to nursery and infant schools. We want the children to be inspired by their teachers, and we believe that this comes about when teachers are happy in their roles and where they feel that they can explore their interests with the children. So our teachers are free to plan the children’s learning with maximum flexibility, inventiveness, and spontaneity. They collaborate with the Head Teacher, and with each other, to deliver a rich and stimulating curriculum. We want the children to be healthy. Each week the children have swimming lessons, plus two PE lessons, in addition to the many opportunities for physical workouts at playtime. Our vegetarian/fish menu is nutritious and tasty. We adhere to healthy eating guidance, and we make it all from scratch in our kitchen, so there no hidden ‘nasties’ – our food is additive-free. The PN was established to provide a forum to represent parents. We work collaboratively with the school owners to identify growth and improvement opportunities and to represent the general views of parents as a whole. This can be on anything from school dinners to playground safety. The PN is run by a collective of parents who devote time and energy voluntarily to make the school an even better place for our children to thrive. The PN also raises funds to provide additional resources and experiences for our children to enjoy during their school life. Funds are raised through social events and now and then we might ask for voluntary donations to help support several specific projects. Currently, we are looking to provide equipment for extracurricular activities that help boost creativity and dexterity, this might take the form of sewing machines and block printing. We are also looking into supporting a school in a developing country so our children learn what it is like to grow up in a different culture and can learn and grown with children of their age on the other side of the world. We aim to only provide financial support for initiatives the PN considers to be above and beyond the requirements for education provision. To qualify, initiatives should be seen to significantly enrich learning and leisure experiences for all children in the school. Each year we try to have a different focus. The PN will generally look to match fund investments made by the school, however, at the PN’s discretion, full funding (or a higher level of part-funding) for initiatives would be considered acceptable. The PN is an open forum and welcomes involvement from all parents within the school. There are no elections for representation, we rely on volunteers. What we try to achieve each year in terms of representation is to ensure we have two parents from each year's group. If you’d like to get involved either as a class representative or in the organization of an event please ask Rob or grab us in the playground. View full school

  4. Roseheyworth Road this week. Miss Edwards will be job sharing with Mrs. Matthews in Reception and Mrs. Cole in Year 3. Miss Lambert is our new Year 2 teacher. Mr. Langdon is our Year 4/5 teacher. Mrs. Williams will work in our Nursery and Reception as a member of the support staff. Finally, Mr. Sirrell will be teaching Year 1 for the foreseeable future due to Mrs. Livingstone taking leave due to family circumstances. We appreciate that there are a lot of new faces around the school but please remember that you are welcome to arrange to meet with your child’s class teacher whenever you wish to. As you know, We are also new to the campus and hope to meet you all over the coming weeks. We will try to be outside most mornings. Please come and say hello when you are at the school. All parents are invited to attend a coffee morning next Tuesday 12th September between 9-11 am to meet both myself and Mrs. Matthews our new Deputy Head of Campus. On Fridays, we hold a celebration assembly where children from each class are presented with a Golden Certificate for excellent work or attitude. Starting next week, class teachers will send a slip home every Thursday to the parents of the Golden Certificate winners. Parents or other family members of the winners are invited into our assembly on Fridays at 9.10 am to see their child being awarded the certificate. We understand that family members will not always be able to attend due to the short notice but awarding the certificate any earlier in the week would not give all children in the class a chance to shine in their work or attitude. We hope you will enjoy this opportunity to share your child’s achievements at school. We are currently organizing extra-curricular activities and a letter will be sent out very soon to inform you of the clubs open to your children this term. View full school

  12. Parents deciding to send their child to a Montessori school offer their child more than a good education. At the heart of Montessori education lies the individual child with his unique character and talents. Montessori schools around the world have proven that, if we provide our children with an environment that supports the child's needs along each step of his development, we lay the foundation for our children to become well-rounded personalities, driven by a lifelong desire to learn and making a positive contribution to society. Children who have the opportunity to practice living their lives to the fullest -intellectually, interpersonally, and with independence - today and throughout their school years, will continue to do so for the rest of their lives. In practice, this means each child at Rose House Montessori is welcomed into an environment of beauty and order. 13. All classrooms are dominated by wooden shelves, displaying beautifully crafted Montessori materials for free choice. 14. At Roscoe Primary School, we are a family working together to ensure that everyone becomes the best they can be within a safe, exciting, and nurturing environment. We strive to achieve the highest standards and provide inspirational learning experiences. By The Department for Education, we aim to actively promote British values in schools to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. Pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races, and cultures with respect and tolerance and understand that while different people may hold different views about what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, all people living in England are subject to its law. The Key Values are: Democracy Rule of law Individual liberty Mutual respect Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs Children receive opportunities to learn about and practice democracy. They are involved in decision-making about aspects of school life. The children are consulted about their curriculum. They tell us what they do and do not like. We teach pupils to listen carefully to each other, respecting the right of every individual to have their opinions and voices heard. Roscoe Primary School encourages all children to behave well using our Good to be Green behavior system. This is based on the yellow and red card system used in football. Pupils are reminded that rules exist to protect everyone. They are given opportunities to make correct choices before a consequence is applied. Our children are taught about the importance of laws whether they are those that govern the class, the school, or the country, and these are consistently reinforced. Each class discusses and sets its own rules that are clearly understood by all and seen to be necessary to ensure that every class member can learn in a safe and ordered environment. Pupils in Roscoe Primary School are taught that they have certain rights but that these also carry responsibilities. In RE lessons, children consider historical and biblical laws and how these influence national and class laws/rules. At Roscoe Primary School, pupils are encouraged to make good choices, knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment. Pupils are supported in making correct decisions by exploring various choices. We encourage them to think about the impact of their decisions on themselves and other people. They learn about the potential consequences of making incorrect ones. We are proud that our school has a diverse population of pupils and staff. We have a mix of nationalities, languages, and religious beliefs. Some of our pupils have medical conditions, special educational needs, and disabilities. The people at Roscoe make our school a happy and lively place to learn and work. Everyone knows that we will make our school a safe and happy place to learn and work by reporting, challenging, recording, and dealing with any incidents of bullying, (including cyber-bullying) or prejudice and discrimination relating to age, disability, gender, homophobia, mental health status, racism or religious belief. We seek to educate our pupils about why such behavior is wrong so that they learn. In Roscoe Primary School we have people who practice all of the major religious faiths and some people who practice none. In RE lessons, though they learn predominantly about Christmas, Easter, and Christian beliefs and practices, pupils also learn about other faiths and festivals such as Hinduism, Judaism, and Islam. Pupils learn about what religions have in common as well as how they differ. Visitors come into school to talk about these too. Pupils are expected to listen to what they hear with respect. Our children learn about why some people believe the things they do and they ask questions about it. View full school

  18. Rookwood is a non-selective co-educational day and boarding school for children from age 2 to age 16 (18 from September 2021). We provide all our pupils with a broad, balanced curriculum that offers a good range of academic subjects as well as opportunities within the fields of drama, sport, and music. Extra-curricular activities and educational visits broaden the educational experience of our pupils. Every pupil is encouraged to perform to the best of his or her ability in all spheres of activity. High standards are expected, whilst recognizing that success will come in different guises for different pupils and will be celebrated at every level. The school has a Christian ethos, whilst actively welcoming children of all faiths, and this is reflected in our regular assemblies. It is the background against which pupils are taught to respect each other and to accept that other people will have differing views or opinions. They are also taught that they should give respect to adults and be able to expect to receive respect in return. At Rookwood our school motto is ‘Sapere Aude’ and can be translated as ‘dare to know’ or ‘dare to understand’ and it certainly represents what we stand for. We challenge our pupils to have courage, to learn new things, develop new skills and deepen their understanding. We encourage them to know and understand themselves and those around them. To recognize that life has its ups and downs and that through knowing themselves they learn to build on their experiences and develop as our future citizens. Through our curriculum, our care, and our broader provision our pupils leave our school for further study, and eventually employment, well-equipped and ready to face the challenges ahead of them. At Rookwood, we place a real emphasis on helping each child develop their academic, physical, and social skills. In the Nursey as throughout the Lower School and Senior School, our experienced teachers and staff nurture, encourage, and support all the children, ensuring they feel both happy and secure in our care. We offer wraparound supervision from 7.30 am until 5.45 pm, breakfast for children arriving before 8.00 am, access to the universal 15-hour entitlement for all parents for any session and we also accept the enhanced 30-hour entitlement for eligible parents. Our Nursery was recently highly praised by the Independent School Inspectorate, ‘In the EYFS the quality of teaching is excellent. Through continuous observations, staff know the children extremely well and tailor activities to meet their individual needs and interests. They have high expectations and foster an ethos of joyful learning through their enthusiasm and dedication.’ We follow the Early Years curriculum and learning during the Foundation Stage is organized into three Prime and four Specific areas which provide the basis for planning the daily activities. The Lower School is vibrant, nurturing, and busy school that encourages pupils to thrive in an atmosphere that is caring, ambitious, and fun. Through a child-centered approach to learning and a dedicated team of staff, all pupils achieve their best while developing a passion to discover and learn. Upon entering our school you will be welcomed by confident, respectful, and thoughtful pupils and feel our warm family ethos. At the heart of what we do is our focus on pastoral care. Through our nurturing approach, all pupils feel that they have the support and encouragement to aspire to fulfill their ambitions and self-made targets. Our Senior School is a happy and thriving learning environment for boys and girls aged 11-16. The foundation for this is strong pastoral care. We feel that every child is unique and thus has unique needs. My staff and I pride ourselves on getting to know our pupils well and working with them and their parents to understand how we can best support them through these important years leading up to their GCSEs. Our pupils’ personal development is of paramount importance. All pupils are treated as individuals and given personal support and guidance. Social and academic target setting is a focus of the school and, along with the wide range of extra-curricular activities, enables pupils to develop their strengths and skills. Pupils are recognized as being confident and polite with a strong sense of social responsibility. View full school

  20. One of our greatest achievements is to have been judged by Ofsted, to be 'outstanding' for fifteen consecutive years. This reflects the hard work of our students, the support the College has from parents and carers, and the commitment of loyal and caring staff. Rooks Heath has a warm and inviting atmosphere where students build valuable relationships with their teachers and other staff as they are guided on their learning pathways. We have a diverse curriculum that provides choices for all students and a dedicated staff that provides outstanding teaching to ensure that every child has the opportunity through learning to achieve success. At Rooks Heath, all students have equal access to the resources to help them to achieve their full potential and we work closely with parents and carers to achieve this aim. Rooks Heath is a vibrant, inclusive College where students are encouraged to learn and achieve irrespective of gender, race, class, special needs, belief, or any other personal characteristics. Communication between home and the College is extremely important to us at Rooks Heath and we value regular contact with parents and carers at all times. Students are expected to achieve high standards of work and behavior in a friendly but disciplined learning environment. We aim to provide students with the skills and abilities to help them develop into independent, productive, and resourceful young people. At Rooks Heath, we have a richly diverse student base and everyone makes excellent progress regardless of their different starting points. We have high achievers who have attained places at top universities such as Oxford and Cambridge as well as students that arrive after year seven, with no prior attainment, who achieve results that are well beyond expectations. Students in our care are encouraged to treat everyone with respect and equality, accepting differences between each other as a chance to learn and widen their perspectives end understanding of an increasingly multicultural global society. Rooks Heath College has been delivering education graded as Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ to 11 – 18-year-old girls and boys for fifteen consecutive years. In 2011 the College gained Academy status and in 2017 a Multi Academy Trust was created, linking the College to Earlsmead Primary School with the option of adding further schools in the future. The College is located in the London Borough of Harrow, close to the border with Hillingdon and Ealing. The popularity of the College is growing and the student roll has significantly increased over the last 4 years at a time of falling numbers in Harrow generally. Rooks Heath has a unique profile and is culturally, linguistically, and religiously diverse and promotes an ethos of inclusion and opportunity for learning for everyone. A high proportion of students have English as an additional language and they are therefore skilled in a variety of languages as well as in English. A significant number of students also have refugee status and are dedicated to making a new life for themselves through hard work and commitment to their studies. These children will often start school at a very low level but a combination of targeted teaching strategies at Rooks Heath combined with a hunger for learning leads them to achieve grades that are in line with the National Average when they take their exams. The College has a highly inclusive approach to ensure that all students are welcomed, cared for, and supported to give their very best and achieve their full potential. Ofsted noted that the College is highly effective in promoting equal opportunities and tackling discrimination. Rooks Heath has a reputation for having excellent pastoral support and has a caring and dedicated staff lead by Dr. John Reavley who has been the Headteacher for 17 years. Wherever possible student groups are kept small to achieve the best outcomes and appropriate support and learning pathways are developed for the individual needs of each student. For these reasons, and because of our dedicated Special Educational Needs department, families of children with special educational needs are attracted to the College. Parents and carers often comment on the friendly atmosphere that is promoted between staff and students at Rooks Heath. We wish to provide the best possible education for every student and our aims are: To ensure Rooks Heath is a vibrant, inclusive College that encourages all students to learn and achieve, irrespective of culture, race, ability, or gender. To provide a learning environment where students are healthy, safe, and enjoy the opportunities available to enable them to achieve economic well-being. To serve the needs of the community: Raise levels of achievement for all students. Prioritize teaching to promote learning thereby raising student achievement. Foster the development of all students through respect for other young people and adults. Demonstrate an ambitious vision for the College and set high expectations for teachers and teachers. 24. We are an outstanding, one-form entry, maintained primary school located on the border of Putney and Wimbledon, in the heart of the William Willison Estate. I hope you find our website answers your questions about the school. Last year we moved into a brand new building that enshrines our school ethos to ‘Be the best you can be’. The new facilities include light and airy classrooms each with its small group room. Our Token Shop takes center stage on the first floor and there is a beautiful hall with enough space to host a multitude of sporting and community events. Our diverse school community, talented staff, and Governing Board have driven these incredible changes and continue to strive for the highest standards in all aspects of school life. We provide opportunities for every child to achieve the best outcomes, not just for reading, writing, and maths, but across the whole curriculum and beyond the school gates. As a staff, we have identified the values that we feel are central to our children’s success as well-rounded individuals. Our Values and Ethos For Ronald Ross Learners to be confident in themselves, happy to take risks, learn from mistakes and work to the best of their ability. To have a fun, creative, and relevant curriculum that is fully inclusive for all learners. To have an environment that is safe, secure, and stimulating, where we all feel we belong. To value and respect everyone equally and treat others as we would wish to be treated ourselves. For Ronald Ross learners to be positive, well-balanced citizens who know right from wrong, make good choices, and support those around them. To recognize and celebrate the talents and achievements of all learners in our school community and do our best. To have active and involved children, staff, parents, carers, and governors who are welcomed, valued, and proud of Ronald Ross. We aim to provide our children with an exciting and creative curriculum, which encompasses the National Curriculum. We want our children to enjoy learning and believe that whenever possible they should experience creative and practical experiences. British Values are at the heart of our curriculum. Please click here to read more about them. These are our three core Curriculum subjects English (Literacy), Numeracy (Maths), Science. Other subjects are foundation subjects i.e History, Geography, Design Technology, Music, Art, P.E, ICT, and French. We also teach R.E. (Religious Education) and P.S.H.E. (Personal, social, health education). We have just been given ‘National Healthy School Status’ and also achieved the ‘Activemark’ for Sport and P.E. Of the 27.5 hours in the normal school week 23.5 hours are spent teaching the agreed curriculum. The remaining time is spent on assemblies, registration, and playtimes. At Ronald Ross Primary School, we teach children from the ages of 3 to 11. Our Early Years classes are the Nursery and Reception. Years 1 & 2 study in Key Stage 1, and Years 3, 4, 5, and 6 study in Key Stage 2. Children will be taught the core subjects all through the year. P.E., R.E., Music, Art, French & I.C.T. are also taught throughout the year. Design Technology, History & Geography are taught in blocks during the year. Information and Communication Technology (I.C.T.) is now an increasingly important part of our lives. Every classroom has a P.C. with access to the Internet, Smartboards and projectors are now installed in all the classrooms. We also have a separate computer suite where we teach whole class lessons. All subjects are taught in mixed ability classes, any grouping necessary is done within the class. We believe that the art of teaching is very important. All staff is trained in different teaching and learning styles so that they can be sure they use appropriate strategies for your child. As part of our curriculum provision, we aim to teach ‘themed’ weeks throughout the year based on specific curriculum areas. Recent themed weeks have included Science week, Book week, and Health & Fitness week. This gives us opportunities to have a special focus for the whole school, with different activities taking place. We plan visits out for the children during the week and invite visitors into school to share the main theme of the week. View full school
