Welcome to The Bethlem and Maudsley Hospital School. We have a primary/middle school department and three secondary/post 16 departments. The departments are split over two hospital sites, the Maudsley site in Camberwell and the Bethlem site in Beckenham. We provide a broad and balanced curriculum that is tailored to the individual. We teach the core subjects of the national curriculum: Maths, English, and Science. We offer subjects including Music, Computing, Physical Education, Citizenship, Design and Technology, Languages, History, Geography, Art, and Religious Education. We also teach Sixth Form pupils who are focused on examination courses. We have a very good relationship with an independent careers adviser, who supports us in helping learners with their plans, whether this is a return to education, skills training, or work. Education in our school is designed to reflect a broad and balanced curriculum and is personalized to the specific learning needs of each young person. We aim to teach pupils how to grow into positive, responsible members of society, who can work and co-operate with others whilst developing knowledge and skills to achieve their potential. Our curriculum is responsive to national initiatives and is regularly reviewed. We commit to providing equal opportunities and access to the curriculum for all young people in our school. We try to minimize any disruption to our pupils’ learning whilst they are in hospital and will liaise closely with a young person’s home school or Local Authority to ensure the teaching provided by our school complements their learning. Our approach to learning means lessons are highly personalized and students will benefit from individual objectives tailored to their needs. Our classrooms are attractive and well-resourced with access to appropriate Information Technology. We host regular creative arts workshops and shows from visiting outreach programs and plan for numerous educational experiences outside the classroom. Some highlights have included visits to Shakespeare’s Globe, museums and art galleries, the Royal Opera House, London Zoo, and the viewing platform at The Shard. The school is a registered exam center and pupils can take national exams whilst in hospital. We prepare students for a wide range of exams whilst they attend our school, from Functional Skills qualifications, through GCSEs, to AS and A2 exams. We are a single-form entry school and great attention is given to Year Level Standards in literacy and numeracy. Our lessons are approximately 50 minutes in duration, however, we work flexibly allowing pupils to engage in areas of interest for longer if they wish to do so. Music, Drama, and Art are also taught for extended periods allowing children to immerse themselves fully in a subject before needing to ‘move on. School arrangements are reviewed annually to ensure our program of study and timetabling meets the needs and interests of our pupils and school community. Parents are notified of any significant changes. Our school term dates are set in consideration of local authority schools. The Belvedere Preparatory School promotes learning beyond the classroom. During each academic school year, all classes will be involved in school trips. We believe that Educational visits help children to gain a better insight into aspects of their learning. To support this, some of our recent visits have included: The Globe Theatre (London) The Imperial War Museum (Manchester) Liverpool Planetarium The Catalyst Museum Potter’s Barn Manchester Airport The Walker Art Gallery, and Liverpool World Museum. Further educational opportunities are sought from specialist companies and guest speakers, who are invited into the school to support the curriculum. Most recently on World Book Day, we invited Bernard Young, a guitar-playing poet, to perform at Belvedere Prep. Bernard provided us with such an enjoyable and entertaining day. All children produced a variety of high-quality poems rapidly and painlessly. The Belvedere Preparatory School was originally founded in 1880 as the Junior Department of The Belvedere School, Liverpool. Originally housed at 17 Belvidere Road, we moved to our current premises at 23 Belvidere Road in 1939. It is widely recognized as one of the best Independent Schools in Liverpool. The Belvedere Academy is a non-denominational, non-fee-paying, independent girls’ secondary school. Over the past few years, it has expanded to accommodate around 850 students, 600 11 to 16-year-olds, and up to 250 in the Sixth Form. The Barlow RC High School is a high-performing Catholic secondary school, with over 850 pupils on the roll. Our staff and student relationships are excellent and the school has made significant improvements over recent years. This was recognized in our last Ofsted report in October 2012. In 2012, we also achieved our best results, with 95% of our pupils gaining five or more GCSEs at A*-C, 74% including English and Maths. Dedicated to St Ambrose Barlow a local Martyr and Saint, the school was established in 1985 as a result of the amalgamation of the Hollies RC High School for Girls and St Mark's RC High School for Boys. The Barlow is situated in the heart of East Didsbury, a suburb of Manchester, and is easily accessible from the A34 bypass and the M56 and M60 motorway networks. In April 2010, The Barlow began a program of building work at an estimated investment of £11.2 million. The renovation work was part of the Building Schools for the Future program - the Government's investment in rebuilding and refurbishing secondary schools in England. The building work was completed in 2012 and as a result, the school has a new, high-specification science block, lecture theatre, sports hall, ICT suites, astroturf pitch, and reception area. The English, Maths, Design & Technology, and Art departments were all remodeled creating an environment that is both purposeful and inspiring. Archbishop Rowan Williams Primary School was founded in 2001. Archbishop Rowan Williams is a Voluntary Aided School. This means that, although it is maintained by the Local Education Authority, the Church (through Monmouth Diocesan Council of Education) has considerable financial and administrative responsibilities. The School aims to provide an education that is Christian in both principle and practice and accordance with the teaching of the Anglican Church. While the teaching of religion is according to the tenets of the Church-In– Wales, as you would expect, there is no atmosphere of indoctrination in the school. The Annunciation School was started at the invitation of Cardinal Bourne of the Archdiocese of Westminster who invited the Dominican Sisters to found an all-age school intended to serve the newly built Watling Estate. With selfless dedication, the Sisters moved to Burnt Oak and using their funds had the School built-in 1931. The school was originally sited next to the Church and intended to serve the needs of Catholic children of all ages from the parishes of Burnt Oak, Kingsbury, and Edgware. After a short time, it was soon oversubscribed and several classes were given temporary accommodation in North Road. The purpose of our school is to provide a Catholic education for our children and develop sound Christian principles. We aim to foster links with the wider community – the children’s families, the parish, and link schools. We will make the children aware of the less fortunate members of the community through the work of the Catholic Children’s Society and other agencies. We provide a Christian community within the school so that each child may learn to live as a member of God’s family, developing self-respect and self-discipline, and become sensitive to the needs and feelings of others. We enable our pupils to progress as individuals and still achieve standards of excellence. Our children’s mission statement is “Be who God meant you to be, and you will set the world on fire.” All of the adults, who work here at The Annunciation Junior School, strive each day, to ensure our children are safe, happy, and excited to learn with us. The school was established in 1931 by the Dominican Sisters to serve the needs of the new parish of Burnt Oak and the existing parishes of Edgware and Kingsbury Green where no Catholic schools existed. We celebrated our eightieth anniversary in 2011 and created a Prayer Garden, in the playground, to mark the occasion. The Annunciation Catholic Infant School is a two-form entry school with a maximum of 232 pupils on the roll (180in school and 52 Nursery pupils). 91% of Nursery pupils transfer to Reception classes in September with some pupils remaining on the waiting list for places. In September 2017, 70% of Reception pupils will have attended our Nursery and 30% of pupils will join our school from other Nursery settings mostly within Barnet. Two-thirds or more of our pupils come from the Burnt Oak Parish which is one of the most deprived areas in Barnet. The school continues to have an excellent reputation within the local area and has been consistently outstanding in all Ofsted inspections We share a commitment to the task of Catholic education based on Gospel values of love and respect for all. We aim to enhance pupils’ understanding of their place in a culturally diverse society and by giving them opportunities to experience some of these differences.
