We are a busy but friendly school, with lots going on. Throughout their time at Kilburn Park School our pupils will have a wealth of experiences that will help shape their future academic achievement, pave the way to achieve their aspirations, and lay the foundation for their lives.
Our goals for our pupils include the following:
- To achieve and exceed expected standards in English, mathematics, science, and ICT and acquire a deep understanding of the relevant knowledge and skills.
- To crave knowledge and be true lifelong learners.
- To experience a range of artistic and athletic activities regularly.
- To appreciate not only their own culture and heritage but also to grow an appreciation for the cultural heritage of the many children living in the United Kingdom.
- To become independent learners, resourceful when they don’t know something or need help finding a solution.
- To aspire to improve themselves and understand the need to give back to the community they live in.
- Above all else, our goal is for Kilburn Park pupils is to be excited to take on the challenges that lie ahead because they feel prepared and capable.
- The school curriculum at Kilburn Park includes the ‘National Curriculum’, Religious Education, and Sex Education.
- The national curriculum is a set of subjects and standards used by primary and secondary schools so children learn the same things. It covers what subjects are taught and the standards children should reach in each subject.
- The National Curriculum is organized into blocks of years called ‘key stages’. At the end of each key stage, your child’s teacher will formally assess their performance to measure your child’s progress.
- At Kilburn Park, we teach from the Key Stage 2 National Curriculum. For each subject, there’s a ‘program of study. It describes what children should learn.
Our science curriculum aims to provide children with knowledge and concepts across all three strands of learning. Through a range of inquiry-led activities, practical experiments, and investigations we want our pupils to develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about the natural world around them. We encourage children to understand how to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave, and analyze causes.
At Kilburn Park School, everyone who comes into contact with children and their families has a role to play in safeguarding children. We have a responsibility to provide a safe environment in which children can learn.
We teach Religious Education as it informs our values and is reflected in what we say and how we behave.
We aim to develop children’s knowledge and understanding of the religions and beliefs which form part of the world in which we live. Religious Education provokes challenging questions about the ultimate meaning and purpose of life, beliefs about God, the self and the nature of reality, issues of right and wrong, and what it means to be human.
Through learning in Religious Education, children gain knowledge and understanding about the beliefs, practices, and customs of the six major world religions: Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Sikhism, and Buddhism. Children also learn about the founders of these religions. Throughout the year major festivals are celebrated, either through RE lessons or through whole school celebrations.
We teach personal, social, health, citizenship, and economic education as it is an important and necessary part of all children’s education. Our teaching is designed to equip pupils with a sound understanding of risk and with the knowledge and skills necessary to make a safe and informed decision as they get older and embark on life’s journey.
