Ysgol Trimsaran was founded in 1875 under the headship of Mr. Thomas Sylfan Jones and was situated where the Junior yard is now on the Heol Waunyclun entrance. A separate Infant school was established in the same building in 1895 under the headship of Mrs. M. Jones. In 1955 due to massive overcrowding and a deterioration in the building a brand, shining new Infants school (made of war surplus aluminum) was opened. By 1962 as a result of a large influx into the village from the North East of England the school started an English stream class to run in parallel with the Welsh stream, a system which continued until the Summer term of 2013. As of September 2013, the school is now Welsh medium. A new Junior building was opened in 1968 and the old school was demolished to make way for the new Junior yard. In 1975 a purpose-built Nursery was set up for the Infants which allowed the school to admit children from their third birthday. The Infant and Junior schools were amalgamated in 1989 to form Trimsaran Primary under the headship of Mr. Wynn Jenkins. The current head Mrs. S Owen was appointed in 2010. We moved into our new passive house school in September 2017. The school has the capacity for 240 pupils with 165 pupils currently on roll. The facilities within the school allow for flexibility in teaching methods and approaches as appropriate to the needs of individuals, small groups, or whole classes. The design of the school is such that it offers the children and the wider community good facilities for learning and leisure. All classrooms have an interactive whiteboard and make use of a good stock of Apple MacBook Pros, laptops, and iPads. Trevor-Roberts School is an independent day school for boys and girls aged from 5 to 13 years. Pupils are prepared for examinations at either 11+ (mostly girls) or 13+ Common Entrance into the main London day schools and boarding schools. Trevor-Roberts was founded by the late Christopher Trevor-Roberts and, after many years in the Vale of Health, moved to its present premises in Eton Avenue in 1981. The neighboring house at No.55 Eton Avenue was acquired in 1994, enabling the opening of the Junior Department in 1995. Simon Trevor-Roberts, who has taught at the school since 1983, is Headmaster and Amanda Trevor-Roberts, his sister, is Head of the Junior Department. Trevor-Roberts School is co-educational, taking boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 13 in preparation for examinations to independent schools. The Junior Department takes children between the ages of 5 and 9 and it is expected that the majority of children continue into the Senior Department. Although the two departments are integrated into aims and spirit, children in the Junior Department have separate classrooms, a play area, and a lunchroom. High success rates throughout the school are achieved through small classes and individual attention. Academic and social self-confidence and a sense of responsibility are built up in a happy atmosphere, geared to increasing motivation and encouraging pupils to fulfill their potential. Children are encouraged to work to the best of their ability and to find their own highest level of achievement. Close liaison is maintained between the school and parents, and progress reports are sent home over the year. Parents are advised on suitable schools for their children. The Heads of both departments are available to discuss any issue, either academic or personal, that arises during the term. Our main intake is at five years old and children will start at Trevor-Roberts in the September of the calendar year in which they turn five. Prospective pupils are assessed in the September and October of the year before entry and offers of definite places are made by November. Children can be registered for a possible assessment after parents have had a personal tour of the school and meeting with the Head of the Junior Department, usually when the child is a few months old. Tremoilet V.C.P School is a small village school, with a kind and caring family atmosphere. Tremains Primary School is a community primary of nearly 500 pupils. The school is organized into an upper and lower department set amid a large housing estate to the east of Bridgend town center. The school caters to children from the ages of 3 to 11 in a semi-open-plan building where staff and pupils work together in shared areas. Our school is a Church in Wales Voluntary Aided Primary School set within the small village of Trelawnyd. Our ethos is centered on the Christian faith and we have close links with members of the Parish Church, St Michael, and All Angels. Our 2015 Inspection report stated that the school’s current performance is good due to the progress pupils make, the skills they develop, and their achievement by the time they leave the school. Inspectors also judged the school as a welcoming community with an inclusive ethos where staff value every child.’ Prospects for improvement at the school were judged to be good because the school has purposeful leadership and leaders are responsive to local and national priorities. Inspectors stated that governors have a sound understanding of the school's strengths and areas for development and that the school works well with a good range of partners to improve standards and wellbeing. Pupils aged 3 to 5 are taught in the Early years class by Mrs. Palmer and Miss Parsons. Pupils aged 6 and 7 move into years 1 and 2 where they are taught by Miss Hughes. During the afternoon, pupils from 4-7 are taught through pupil-centered topics where knowledge and understanding of the world, creative, physical, and Welsh language activities are introduced. The junior pupils are taught in two separate classes for lower and upper juniors with the 8 and 9-year-olds in years 3 and 4 with Mr. Williams. The upper juniors of 10 and 11-year-olds in years 5 and 6 are taught by Miss Fisher. Pupils are taught mainly in their class groups to allow learning to be focused for the range of their age and ability. The teachers of all classes are very experienced at teaching the particular age range and can plan and set targets for pupils to make maximum progress during their time in that class. Learning is supported and developed by teaching assistants who are trained to support pupils in the age range in which they work. They can help pupils to learn the key skills and develop their knowledge and understanding during ongoing activities. Our approach is based on our values. It is person-centered and uses behavioral principles of learning to help individuals to achieve their full potential. The focus is on the individual and their learning needs. Every person is unique and has a unique experience of the world. Pupils with autism exhibit significant social communication and language difficulties. Appropriate communication and social skills are necessary to express needs, desires, and feelings. Language and communication are the foundations for the development of relationships, participating in society, and accessing the curriculum. It is, therefore, crucial to develop skills in these areas to improve pupils’ quality of life. For this reason, TreeHouse places greater emphasis upon receptive and expressive communication (speaking and listening) within English. Learning English encompasses all the aspects of communication – non-verbal, verbal, and written. Work in English promotes learning across the curriculum and underpins pupils’ achievements and participation in all aspects of their lives. Speech and language therapists work within the multi-disciplinary team to develop appropriate programs to encourage and develop communication. Ambitious about Autism and TreeHouse School is based in the Pears National Centre for Autism Education, which is located in Muswell Hill, north London. The Pears National Centre for Autism Education has been designed to be low energy and low-carbon building. The building is predicted to use 67% less energy than the energy benchmarks set out in the Greater London Authority's guidance for planners. 10% of the energy will be derived from renewable energy sources. At TreeHouse School, we believe in forging strong links with local mainstream schools, to provide opportunities for our pupils to mix with their peers. Several of our pupils take part in a range of classes at local mainstream schools, and this enriches both their learning in particular subjects such as music or sports, as well as their social and communication skills. We also run a program of ‘Reverse Inclusion’ where children from a local primary school visit TreeHouse once a week to act as ‘playmates’. The ‘playmates’ are encouraged to actively engage with their peers here at TreeHouse, and their enthusiasm brings a real buzz to the atmosphere in the playground.
