All members of staff place great emphasis on establishing positive relationships and setting a climate that promotes concern and respect for others. Every pupil is valued and encouraged to do their best and achieve their potential in all aspects of school life. We believe that every child has the right to an education and that school attendance has a big impact on a child’s learning. At Tir-Y-Berth Primary School, we take great pride in ensuring that attendance is maintained at a high level and that this is promoted and celebrated right across the school. While your child is with us, we will monitor their attendance very closely, to secure the very best education for them. We put in place interventions where attendance is dropping, but also reward pupils where attendance is excellent!
  2. Timberley is a Fully Accessible Mainstream (FAM) Academy that is committed to inclusive education and meeting the needs of all children. We see our children as individuals and strive to fulfill not just their academic potential but their personal, spiritual, social, moral, and emotional development through an exciting and stimulating environment. We envisage Timberley to be a hub of the community. Our school farm, Forest School and Community Kitchen provide our pupils and parents with opportunities not offered by other schools in the area. Our successful Stay and Play gives our parents time to meet other parents in the area, whilst keeping their little ones entertained. The curriculum which we provide is broad, balanced, challenging, and relevant. It is designed to develop not only each child’s full academic potential but also to help them to develop as well-rounded individuals that show care, compassion, and respect to everyone in our school and the local community. Our curriculum does not end as the school day ends. We have plenty of opportunities for the children to participate in a wide range of clubs run by the Academy staff and outside providers who volunteer their time generously and also a thriving breakfast club and tea club. At Timberley we aim to provide children with opportunities to prepare them for adult life. These opportunities came from an ethos and curriculum that provides maximum learning opportunities for each child, no matter what their particular needs may be. Our aims are: To create a happy, caring, and stimulating school environment, helping children to understand that courtesy, good manners, and consideration for others are very important qualities. To provide children with opportunities to achieve high academic standards with particular regard to the requirements of the National Curriculum, but with emphasis on helping children to use language and number effectively, developing an ability to apply skills and communicate with others. To provide children with opportunities to develop a growing self-confidence, leading to independence. To help children develop an enjoyment of physical, creative, and spiritual activities. To help pupils appreciate the world around us and the part they need to play in its continued wellbeing, particularly within their local environment and community. View full school

  6. For the last 5 years, despite being in the top group of Ealing’s deprivation tables, Three Bridges has also been in the top group of Ealing and England's performance and progress tables. Three Bridges is an incredible school. We believe in providing a world-class education to our young people and supporting them to become their very best. While we exceed the basic goals of creating very literate and numerate children, our aim is much bolder: to help develop truly incredible young people – to create critical, creative, and contributing citizens of the world. We pride ourselves on providing an environment characterized by Professional Capital and Moral Purpose. We hire the very best staff, provide them with excellent development opportunities, allow them to collaborate, research, and innovate to make the best decisions for your children. We spend time leading learning in partnership with other schools (over 200 schools and 500 teachers and leaders in the last 2 years!) because we believe that those relationships make us stronger. We know that primary education only takes 8 years, but lasts a lifetime. At Three Bridges, we aspire to be an example of the best kind of primary school – one that creates great people. Staff filled with enthusiasm and passion alongside children immersed in a culture of sky-high expectation, relentless learning inside of a community of character. Developing the building blocks for life-long learning is complex. Embedding and applying the knowledge and skills required to be exceptional is very demanding. At Three Bridges we know that these things are only improved and made permanent on purpose. Nothing happens here by accident. Our Adults are professionally inspired, morally driven, and provided with the conditions under which they are truly incredible. We ensure they are highly qualified, given extra time to research and reflect, and not inundated with the unnecessary workload. Our professional capital is only outweighed by our professional happiness. Our Children are curious, creative, and courageous. They thrive in the challenge and soar when they are at the center of their learning. Simply put, they are inspirational. No challenge is too big, no problem too difficult they know what they are doing, why they are doing it, and how they can be better. They are partners in the learning process – sometimes recipients other times active participants – ALWAYS challenged, engaged, and moving forward. We spend a great deal of time working in collaboration with each other and partner schools. In an attempt to be our very best, we use these opportunities to learn and help others learn. We don’t have all the answers, but we do have a few steps in the right direction and know that being a great school is only possible in fellowship with other schools. Together, we strive to: Make a difference in the lives of all pupils Commit to reducing the gap between high and low performers within our school and community of schools Contribute to reducing the gap in our larger environment through open days and school to school support Transform the working and learning conditions of our teachers so that growth, commitment, engagement, and the constant spawning of leadership is being fostered At Three Bridges, we believe that all children should have as many educational opportunities as possible. We, therefore, place a large emphasis upon a stimulating curriculum that develops all children’s talents. We place a strong emphasis on children reaching high standards in English and mathematics. Classrooms are equipped with the latest interactive whiteboards and generous iPad provisions to support teaching and learning across the curriculum. We are no longer using 'setting' as a key strategy for learning and teaching in the school. This means that the majority of children will be taught in their regular class for all subjects. This approach is supported both academically and socio-emotionally across the lifespan. Some of the research we looked at can be found here. View full school

  8. Our ethos, values, and aims are at the core of everything we do. They underpin our teaching and learning and provide an environment that prepares our pupils as confident, happy citizens. Our aim, in partnership with parents and the local community, is to give all pupils the best start to their school careers. We offer staff opportunities and support in their professional development and recognize their achievements. We aim to provide a curriculum that is rich, varied, and relevant to all our pupils. We have high expectations of all pupils to encourage the highest levels of individual achievement. Pupil’s learning is monitored and assessed to ensure appropriate challenges are set. We create opportunities for children to develop as responsible and caring individuals showing respect for others and their environment. At Thorpe Hall, together, we aim to provide rich and memorable learning experiences by: Meeting the needs of all learning styles (i.e. visual, auditory, and kinaesthetic). Enabling children to become confident, resourceful, enquiring, and independent learners. Fostering children's self-esteem and help them build positive relationships with other people. Developing children's self-respect and encourage children to respect the ideas, attitudes, values, and feelings of others. Showing respect for all cultures to promote positive attitudes towards other people. Enabling children to understand their community and help them feel valued as part of this community. Helping children grow into reliable, independent, and positive citizens for the 21st century. Ensure arrangements at Thorpe Hall Primary School support the school in meeting the aim of ‘caring for every child’. This policy outlines policies, procedures, and expectations regarding the dropping off and collecting of children at the start and the end of the day and also arrangements for collection during the school day. As the vast majority of our pupils live within walking distance of the school, families are strongly encouraged to walk to school. For those families using cars please ensure you do not stop outside of the school on the yellow lines. Additional traffic and parked cars around school pose a serious unnecessary risk to children as well as additional congestion. View full school

  14. Thornton Primary School has been serving the local community in Ward End since 1930. Generations of families have entrusted the education of their children to the school which is very popular and oversubscribed in every year group. The school is unique in as much as we have a one-form entry Key Stage 1 but in Key Stage 2, we have five forms of entry (150 children in each year group) as we take 120 children each year from Sladefield Infant School. Last year, the children’s playgrounds had a complete refurbishment, to create a safe and exciting place for the children to play and have their PE lessons. We have also installed new fencing around the school site to improve security and further developed the school reception, outdoor spaces, corridors, and classrooms. We now have an amazing school library, stocked with a wide range of splendid books. We are thankful to the Foyle Foundation for providing a grant of £5,000 to enable this dream to be realized. At Thornton, we are very proud of the relationship that has developed between the parents and the school. We welcome parents’ views and support and have an open-door policy. We also have a well-equipped ICT suite where children can develop their IT and computing skills. At Thornton Primary School we pride ourselves on a friendly environment where all staff and pupils treat one another with respect and form positive relationships which ensure a happy and safe atmosphere. School Aims: To be an inclusive school, giving support to every child so that they reach their full potential. To provide an inspiring curriculum, grounded in the basic skills of English and mathematics and enriched with first-hand experiences, that will help children develop lively, enquiring minds encouraging them to think for themselves and to develop perseverance, motivation, enthusiasm, initiative, and creativity. To foster excellent attitudes to learning so that children are confident, self-assured learners who are proud of their achievements. To encourage excellent attendance and punctuality so that not a moment of learning is lost. To ensure that bullying is frowned upon and dealt with decisively and swiftly. To have an open culture that actively promotes all aspects of pupils’ welfare. To keep pupils safe and make sure they feel safe at all times. Ensuring that pupils understand how to keep themselves safe in different situations, including online, staying safe from abuse and exploitation, and trust adults in school to help them when they have concerns. To ensure that pupils have an excellent understanding of how to stay safe online and of the dangers of inappropriate use of mobile technology and social networking sites. To encourage pupils to lead an active lifestyle and ensure that they can articulate how to keep themselves healthy, making informed choices about healthy eating, fitness, and their emotional and mental well-being, developing an age-appropriate understanding of healthy relationships. To ensure that pupils’ spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development permeates all areas of the school’s work and equips them to be thoughtful, caring, and active citizens in school and wider society. To develop the school as a community where children’s rights are learned, taught, practiced, respected, protected, and promoted. At Thornton, our school ethos is based upon the principle of belonging, whereby every person - pupils, staff, parents, and governors - is a member of the Thornton family. Each person is an important individual with a positive contribution to make. The School attempts to create a warm, secure 'family' atmosphere in which every child is safe. The School encourages all children to respect other people and their beliefs regardless of race or religion to respect the building and the resources within it and to respect the wider environment through active involvement with conservation and preservation. The School encourages a full partnership with parents and seeks to further develop strong parental links from throughout the school so that the learning of pupils is fully understood and supported. The School recognizes that the commitment of the staff, and the example that is set to the children through the daily ethos, is largely responsible for the high motivation and achievement of the pupils.
  16. Thornton College, located between Milton Keynes and Buckingham, is set on beautiful grounds. Our main school building is a Manor House which dates back to the fourteenth century. The building became a school in 1917, just over one hundred years ago, and was founded by the Sisters of Jesus and Mary, who have schools and colleges in twenty-eight countries across the world. We are very proud of our rich history, our exceptional pastoral care for the individual, and our strong emphasis on core Christian values but we are also proud of the fact that we are a forward-looking school, with exciting opportunities both in and outside the classroom. We believe that a happy child is a successful child and Thornton College is a school where your daughter’s happiness does matter to us. We are, in fact, much more than just a school. Thornton is a family, where we learn and grow together, respecting the value of each member of our community, regardless of background. As well as acknowledging who each of our girls is, we encourage them to aspire to what they can become. Much of what we do at Thornton is appropriately summed up in the words of our Mission Statement. We aim to educate our girls to ‘meet the challenges of life courageously. In an increasingly competitive and increasingly fractured world, we realize that we cannot, much as we would like to, avoid life’s challenges. We need the inner strength to enable us to face life and the resilience to cope. We also encourage our girls to ‘use their talents to the full.’ At Thornton, we recognize that we are all very different. We are an incredibly diverse and multi-talented community, where each girl is cherished and supported in being the very best version of herself. We want to encourage your daughter to know herself, to play to her strengths, and to develop her talents in a whole range of ways. Finally, we pride ourselves on being a family where we commit to living and learning together as we endeavor to work out what it means to ‘live out the values of Christ’s Gospel’ in how we treat one another and in how we respond to life in our twenty-first-century society and the wider world. We are non-selective, recognizing, in line with our ethos, that children develop at different rates and stages of their lives and in each one there is potential to excel. A strong work ethic, exceptional teaching, and excellent pastoral care provide a secure environment where your daughter will be known and encouraged to develop her strengths, her social skills, and her ability to pursue, with confidence, the next stage of life. Our wide subject choice, particularly in Sixth Form, allows girls to follow individual interests and strengths as well as to embrace new challenges. We monitor progress continuously, challenging and supporting at the right level and at the right time. But, this is only one aspect of the education your daughter will receive at Thornton. Our small classes ensure that your daughter will be known and encouraged in all aspects of her education here and an extensive co-curricular program encourages the exploration of new interests and challenges. 18. Thornhill Primary is a thriving and busy school set in the heart of a young and growing community. The school was opened in 1991, initially as a one-form entry. It has since been extended three times to meet the needs of this developing locality. We are a happy, caring school where everyone is treated as an individual. Our National Test results are above the Cardiff and National averages, we pride ourselves in nurturing the whole child and in recognizing the value of what each of us has to offer in many different spheres. We are committed to developing the whole child. We aim to offer opportunities for children to have a wide range of experiences and to be able to find out what they are good at and where their interests lie. How can you know what you like or what you are good at if you’ve never tried it? Every child is treated as an individual and is targeted as an individual. This ensures that every child can fulfill their potential and achieve their level of academic excellence. We believe children learn best when they feel happy, secure, confident, and valued, irrespective of their ability or disability, social background, culture, or gender. We believe children learn best when their surroundings are stimulating and interesting with access to a full range of varied and appropriate resources and allowed to reflect and talk about their learning. We believe children learn best when work is differentiated, matching individual needs and providing an appropriate challenge. We believe children learn best when there are clear expectations, knowing that they are making progress, and knowing that their achievements are recognized and celebrated. We believe that children learn best when they have opportunities to work collaboratively as well as independently with further opportunities for practical, relevant exploration of ideas that are relevant to their lives in the wider community. The dedicated staff offers a plethora of voluntary after-school activities and the PTA and Governors work constantly throughout the year, supporting and supplementing the needs of this busy community school. As Headteacher, I believe that an open-door policy should operate within the school and that everyone should feel comfortable and welcome coming to discuss his or her concerns regarding any aspect of school life. 20. Together with the staff, our governing body, the parents, and our links with the Mortlake and Richmond, London community we continue to drive the school forward and prepare your children for life in the 21st century. There is no room for mediocrity at Thomson House School – we have the highest of expectations and aim to excel in everything that we do. Thomson House aims to cultivate the habits and arts of excellence and wellbeing, so that its pupils may flourish, achieving academic success and leading fulfilling lives. To achieve this, Thomson House anchors its curriculum on three fundamental qualities: curiosity, kindness, and courage. We offer a creative and challenging curriculum that incorporates varied and exciting learning opportunities for the children. Our school values of curiosity, kindness, and courage weave through all areas of school life – very high expectations are present in learning, behavior, appearance, and academic rigor. We encourage our children to be well-mannered and respectful, with an empathy for those less fortunate than ourselves. We encourage competitiveness in sport and aim for every child to fulfill their potential. Above all, we intend for the children to be motivated and enthusiastic in their learning journey – and to have fun and laughter whilst doing so. Thomson House is a co-educational school open to children of all backgrounds and abilities. We are located in an area where the local schools are over-subscribed. Thomson House will give local families another choice of school providing an outstanding education for children in their community. We want to work as part of the local family of outstanding schools, and therefore our admissions process is run by the Local Authority of Richmond-upon-Thames. If you would like to apply to Thomson House, apply through the Local Authority's application process, selecting Thomson House as one of your preferences. The Reception class is the first class of the main school, which children join when they are four going on five years old, i.e. the September before their fifth birthday. All Reception class applications must be made using your home Local Authority’s common application form (CAF) and should be submitted to your Local Authority. You can apply for up to six schools on one application form, which should be listed in order of preference and you are advised to use all six preferences. Your preferences will be considered under an equal preference system i.e all preferences are considered separately, regardless of their ranking on your form, therefore, if your application is successful for more than one school, you will offer a place at the school you ranked highest on your CAF. When considering your preferences, you will need to consider carefully the admissions process and the oversubscription criteria. You are strongly advised to ensure that you fully understand the admissions process and the oversubscription criteria before making your application for a place at any school. If you are looking for a place mid-year please call us first to find out if we have available places. You will also need to contact the London Borough of Richmond’s admissions department. Richmond holds all information regarding waiting lists and school vacancies. Thomson House combines the best traditions of the independent sector with those of the state primaries in Richmond. It offers excellent teaching, a curriculum underpinned by rigor and breadth, smaller classes, and a strong community focus. We want Thomson House to be one of the most respected and admired schools in our Borough. Not only because our children make outstanding academic progress, but also because they develop the curiosity to ask questions, the self-belief and courage to seize opportunities, and the heart to do good to those around them. Outstanding teaching and learning is the bedrock of our approach. Thomson House considers its community of learners to include teachers, pupils, and their families. Each Reception class will have a full-time class teacher and teaching assistant. Our curriculum is based on the National Curriculum, enriched with components from other learning pedagogies we consider outstanding. Pupils will be given an excellent and rigorous grounding in the basics, which will allow them to learn confidently throughout the rest of their lives. Each child will have their Individual Learning Profile that will track their progress throughout their schooling and provide a basis for continual target setting by pupils, parents, and teachers. We are committed to small class sizes of no more than 24 pupils so that each child’s individual learning needs can be met. We believe that young people find out who they are when they commit themselves to a range of academic, sporting, creative, and service activities. By nurturing the individual talent within each child (and by celebrating excellence in pupils), Thomson House develops in its pupil's confidence and love of learning, the motors to self-development. The teaching team will work in close partnership with parents, carers, and outside providers in identifying and addressing the particular needs of a child and ensuring that appropriate provisions are made across the school, including addressing learning difficulties and stretching children’s abilities through a gifted and talented program. We have the most amazing staff who are all passionately devoted to providing the best for our children and, as part of our learning community, strive to be the best practitioners that they can be, constantly reviewing and improving through the sharing of good practice and attending high-quality CPD (Continuous Professional Development). Our teachers, teaching assistants, and support staff is all highly qualified professionals who take the business of learning very seriously. They all model the school values of Curiosity, Kindness, and Courage. The parents and carers play a huge part in their children’s learning journey too – not only do they commit to spending time supporting academic progress at home, but also support the school in many other ways - going on school trips, volunteering in school, offering gardens for the gardening club, fund-raising through FOTH (Friends Of Thomson House), sharing their skills in theme weeks, running enrichment clubs (drama and football), donating financially, and attending social events. We would not be as successful as we are without them! The Thomson House School PTA, known as FOTH, does a remarkable job welcoming new parents, organizing social events, and fundraising for the school. All parents and staff are part of FOTH and work together to make the school a vibrant, warm, and welcoming place. Continuing along the healthy vein, Fit For Sport provides our children with a level of physical education that is second to none. FFS also provides multi-sport enrichment clubs for the children to enjoy at lunchtime. Several external professionals come into the school at lunchtime to provide enrichment clubs for the children – Dance IT Team (Zumba for the children and staff) Young Yoga. View full school

  22. Thomas’s Battersea is a busy, thriving, purposeful school, educating 560 boys and girls between the ages of four and 13. As you would expect of any Thomas’s school, the most important school rule is to 'Be Kind'. We offer a rich and broad curriculum, with Art, Ballet, Drama, ICT, French, Music, and PE all taught by specialist teachers from a child’s first day in school. The school is structured in three, three-year stages (the Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools) within a framework of 'Enjoyment, Learning and Achievement', which informs a child’s journey through the school. Children join at the age of four and leave at 11 or 13. Whilst we are proud of our record of the senior school entrance and scholarship successes, we place a greater emphasis on a set of core values, which include kindness, courtesy, confidence, humility, and learning to be givers, not takers. We hope that our pupils will leave this school with a strong sense of social responsibility, set on a path to become net contributors to society and to flourish as conscientious and caring citizens of the world. It is our aim that each child in our care aspires to fulfill his or her potential. We would like every pupil to become the best that he or she can be. In each school, we aim to offer the highest academic standards, set within a broad and rich curriculum, which inspires enjoyment, learning, and achievement. We expect every member of the schools’ communities to ‘Be Kind’. We are a Christian school, open to children of all faiths. The most important school rule, which applies to every member of the school community, is to ‘Be Kind’. Our ethos aims and values actively support the upholding of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect, and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs. These are British values which we cherish and which equip pupils for life in modern Britain. In each school, we aim to engender an ethos of kindness, encouragement, and understanding, in which pupils’ strengths are developed and their weaknesses supported so that each child is challenged without being inhibited. We expect our pupils to make impressive progress as a result of their hard work, the best efforts of their teachers, the judicious support of their parents, and the encouragement of their peers. Our ambition is to develop in each pupil an enquiring mind and a life-long love of learning. Through enthusiastic, inspiring teaching, excellent resources, and a broad and balanced curriculum, pupils are well prepared not merely for the demands of senior school entrance examinations, but also for a rich and fulfilling future. The National Curriculum is our starting point, but in each subject, work is planned to stimulate and challenge. We have high expectations of our pupils and track progress carefully so that the standard and pace of the work suits the individual and ensures that all fulfill their potential. We use to the full our privilege of having on the doorstep one of the world’s great capital cities. Pupils enjoy regular day trips to London’s art galleries, theatres, parks, museums, and historic locations. From the age of eight, pupils venture further afield on residential trips which ranging from a PGL adventure camp in Year 4 to an English and History trip to Shropshire and an optional French exchange in Year 7. In Year 8 pupils enjoy a Geography field trip to Wales, a trip to the battlefields of Flanders, and an Outward Bound Challenge in the Lake District. Every two years we run a choir tour to Italy and occasionally organize sports tours, such as a very successful football outing to Brazil. View full school

We believe that obstacles and barriers both real and perceived can be overcome by clear, strategic, and targeted support that creates culture change based on sharing good and outstanding practice, collegiality, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. This underpins our high expectations and actions and drives all the staff to provide opportunities for our children to reach the highest possible levels of attainment and achieve exceptionally well in all walks of life. We believe that outstanding teaching and learning must be central to every decision made and every development introduced. We are an inclusive, caring school where every child matters. We recognize that all children have talents and abilities to celebrate, and part of our role is to help children to discover these. We challenge and develop our children to become curious, autonomous learners who are inspired and stimulated by a rich and varied curriculum that is appropriate to their individual needs. We develop children’s learning skills and, by setting high expectations and exacting standards, we prepare our children to flourish, and have high self-esteem and self-belief. Although working within the organization of an Academy Trust, Thomas Samuel Primary will always be a ‘community school. We aim to work closely with our parents, other schools, and organizations, building partnerships that benefit, not only our children but others in the wider community, both on a local, national and global level. We believe that access to outstanding education is a right for all our children and young people. We aim to work in partnership with schools, enabling a locally-based education improvement solution to develop organically and to ensure that peer-to-peer support drives standards and improves outcomes for pupils and staff. We believe in freeing teachers and leaders from bureaucracy to focus on providing the very best teaching, learning, and support that every child deserves. Schools that are part of the Lion Academy Trust will retain their own identity and continue to be the hub of learning in their local community. We want our Trust to become your Trust, a vehicle for you to make a difference in children’s lives. A driving force in releasing the potential in every child.
