On the one hand, the Chapel reminds the community of its history and its Methodist roots. The Foundation Stone was laid on the 8th June 1927 by the Prince of Wales, Duke of Cornwall. The memorial plaques from the First and Second World Wars and Boer War honor those who fell during those conflicts. Just over 300 girls, aged 4 to 18, are part of our school community on a daily, weekly or Flexi boarding basis. From the age of four, our girls are encouraged to find their voices, to grow in confidence, and to develop the resilience needed to try, to overcome obstacles, to re-group, and bounce back. Yoga classes and a wellbeing hub run alongside a full mental health awareness program that includes a Big Sis/Little Sis buddy system, peer mentoring and weekly workshops on topics including healthy eating, anti-bullying and positive body image. Mindfulness sessions are run during exam weeks while, every week, girls as young as four take part in ‘relaxercise’ classes covering meditation and cosmic yoga. At the upper end of the school, students from Years 11-13 can even qualify for Mental Health First Aid. We are the first school in the South West, and the second in the UK, to use the new wellbeing platform ‘Flourishing at School’ which enables our pupils to understand and maintain positive mental health. The program is based on leading psychologist Martin Seligman’s work on PERMA (Positive emotion, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, Accomplishments) and has already proven incredibly successful in Australia. Rather than seeking to identify those who are distressed, or potentially “at-risk”, this innovative program takes this positive psychology approach to help students develop the ‘pillars’ of good mental health to stay well and optimize quality of life. Through surveys and regular check-ins, it aims to identify top contributors to each girl’s wellbeing. The results will inform each student’s individualized pastoral care plan as well as conversations between girls and their tutors focussed on the development of wellbeing knowledge and behaviors. TSM has been part of the community for over 150 years and has served Balham’s children throughout those years. Trinity Primary School is a vibrant, positive school. We pride ourselves on our excellent ethos which is essential in providing high-quality teaching and learning experiences to all our pupils. Trinity Primary School is at the heart of the local community and we all work together to ensure that everyone feels valued, respected, and happy. Trinity Primary School is situated on Newhaven Road. It is non–denominational, co-educational, and is part of a cluster of primary schools also including Wardie Primary School and Victoria Primary School. Our catchment secondary school is Trinity Academy, with whom we have close links. The current school building was opened in 1968. We currently have 18 classes. Trinity has a science classroom with cooking facilities and a multipurpose teaching area. Our recently expanded dining room hosts both the breakfast club and after-school club. Our main hall is used for PE by our classes with their teacher and also with our visiting specialists. The main hall also has fantastic theatrical lighting and audio system which are used to enhance learning and teaching. School shows and whole school events are an integral part of Trinity Primary. We are lucky to have fairly extensive school grounds with both grass and tarmac areas, a quiet friendship garden, a storytelling space, a fenced sports area, a covered shelter area, and an internal school courtyard garden. There are also P7 mosaic stepping stones, a storytelling throne, a wooden bridge, a wooden fort to play in, designed and built by our talented janitor, Mr. Campbell. We have an amazing Secret Garden which is used as an outdoor classroom and which has 33 wooden seats (thanks again, Mr. Campbell for making them). We have exciting new developments happening this year with our school grounds. Our incredible PSA has fundraised £20,000 and this has now been doubled with another £20,000 from Matched Funding. You will be seeing developments to the front and back of our grounds. More recently, steps have been taken to start the process of re-developing the courtyard to create a multifunctional area, primarily for Early Years pupils. At Trinity Primary School we also understand that pupils are reassured if they have a good network of friends and people to support them and know some of what to expect so that they can adapt to the challenges of a new environment. Trinity Primary does not have its nursery. There are over 25 feeder nurseries across the city that our pupils come from. Trinity’s intake into P1 is usually around 80 pupils. The school offers a smooth, supportive, and structured transition from nursery to P1. In the term before starting school, your child will be invited into school for a tour by older pupils. They will also be visited in their nursery by a member of Trinity Primary School’s senior leadership team. The senior leadership team member will enjoy taking time to speak to your child and meeting the staff who have been involved in their nursery education. At Trinity Primary School we recognize that pupils need to feel ‘at at home’ and secure when starting with us in August. Following the parent's and carers’ evening meeting, the soon-to-be P1s are invited to meet their teacher and classmates. We reinforce messages of tolerance and respect. Pupils teach each other about their cultures and faiths, for example, through presentations to other classes. Whole school assemblies include stories and celebrations from a variety of faiths and cultures. This half term our topic is ‘All About Me’, which links to the Personal Social & Emotional & Communication & Language development and the children have been drawing and talking about their families. The children used mirrors to look at their reflection, talked about what they saw, the color of their eyes, hair, skin, and used paint to make their portraits. They are amazing! We have been discussing our feelings and what makes us happy and sad. The children have told us that coming to nursery makes them happy and that not having a friend to play with makes them sad. The children have also been enjoying Trinity’s very own Baby Clinic. We have also been marking making in shaving foam, glitter, paint, and rice Krispies whilst having lots of fun. In Maths we have been singing number songs with actions and props, playing number recognition & matching games to develop our Mathematics skills. Outside in the playground, we played hopscotch using our gross motor and balancing skills. In reception the children have been exploring the natural world around them, focusing on autumn. The children brought in their labeled autumn bags which were completed over the half term. We used these bags to talk about and compare the range of objects which can commonly be found outside in the autumn season. The children also used their autumn objects to explore transient art. Trinity Fields School and Resource Centre is a purpose-built school which opened in 1998 and offers our pupils many unique and innovative features to develop their skills. First and foremost pupils are at the heart of all that we do at Trinity Fields. We have a long-standing commitment to providing all pupils with the very best learning experiences as well as empowering them to make important decisions about future developments within the school. We continue to work within the guiding principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) we achieved Level 2 of UNICEF's Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) at the beginning of 2017. Our RRSA assessment report can be found under the "Policies" section of the website. We are extremely proud that we are the first school in Caerphilly to obtain this award. Our assessors said: "Article 12 is at the heart of life at Trinity Fields. Pupils are enabled to fully participate in a meaningful and inclusive way. The assessors were able to see many examples of this during the assessment with the Headteacher stating "RRS and listening to our pupils is natural and an expectation at school. My job is to support our pupils and make a difference. This can only be achieved by listening to them". At Trinity Fields we aim to promote and develop our pupils' learning, self-esteem, behavior, and confidence by providing rich and individualized learning opportunities for them to develop their skills and understanding, and create an exciting school community that is child-centered, empowering, and inclusive. Trinity is a Church of England Academy, founded to promote the education of students in a community that is positively Christian but welcomes the children of parents of other faiths. Such success contributed to our recognition, initially in April 1997, as a Technology College, and it was reflected in the report of that year by the Government’s Inspection Team (OFSTED), which listed Trinity as a good school with outstanding features our Year 2000, 2006 and 2010 inspections confirmed this. In 2014, Trinity was judged by Ofsted to be outstanding in all categories and outstanding for overall effectiveness. We are very lucky to have a Nursery class at Trinity as it means children have access to all the school facilities. Children join us at 2 or 3 years old and currently attend morning or afternoon sessions or a combination of both during term time only.
