  3. A kindergarten is the very first school a child attends and hence we place a strong emphasis on our school atmosphere. St Teresa's Kindergarten uses "developmentally appropriate" teaching practices to suit both the needs and levels of the children. To put it simply, our teachers think first about what young children are like and then create an environment and experiences that are in tune with their characteristics. Our teachers make learning relevant, interesting, and fun. Children in our kindergarten learn through individual, small group teaching, and whole-class activities. They are encouraged to Wonder, Think, Feel and Imagine. Our qualified and experienced Early Childhood teachers make use of thematic learning. The themes are related to daily life experiences, children's interests, and current happenings. The main emphasis is on the key learning areas of English, Early Mathematics, Science, Arts and Crafts, Music, Cooking, Health, Physical Education, and Personal Development. Our classrooms are luxuriously large, airy, and bright with lots of natural light. Measuring 27 ft in length and 22 ft in breadth, each classroom has different "Activity Corners" where children can actively explore, play, work and move around freely. All classroom furniture and shelves are in bright, child-friendly colors. They have been specially tailor-made to appeal to children and ensure their safety. Storybooks, play equipment, and stationery are stored at a height convenient for children to easily access them. Our kindergarten has its very own playground that is equipped with slides, swings, and other play equipment. Special rubber mats have been installed around all outdoor play equipment to ensure the safety of children and to prevent serious injury. In addition, whenever children use the playground they are supervised by the teachers. The school will hold two meetings per year. These meetings will allow parents to speak directly with their child's teacher, and discuss their development throughout the school year thus far. It will also be a chance to ask questions or voice concerns directly to teachers. The school will organize school outings periodically. A notification letter will be sent home with details of the planned excursion. Parents are welcome to assist and join us on these outings. However, such trips will be canceled at short notice should there be a change in the weather. We encourage you to make an appointment with the class teacher to discuss your child's progress or any school-related problems. Parents are requested not to discuss such matters with the teacher when children are entering or leaving the school. To notify the school if your family has moved to a new address. It would help us contact you in an emergency. Birthday parties can be held during school hours only. If you intend to celebrate your child's birthday at school, it is best to inform the class teacher at least a week in advance. It is advisable to inform the school if your child needs special attention or if he/she is allergic to any medicine or food. If your child is sick, do be considerate and ensure that he/she has completely recovered and is past the infectious period before sending him/her to school. A doctor's certificate is needed if the child has suffered from any infection, such as mumps, chickenpox, measles, etc. View full school

  5. First Think International Kindergarten was founded in Laguna City in 1994. Now we have grown into 4 international kindergartens and 1 international school. In September 2016 Think Academy is planning to open, to offer secondary education. Think Academy will be using Cambridge Secondary 1 and Cambridge IGCSE, followed by the IB Diploma Programme. Our mission is to provide a safe, supportive, child-centered, and challenging environment that uses an inquiry-based approach to foster diversity and to develop knowledgeable and open-minded, courageous, and caring life-long learners. We aim at preparing children to become global citizens who believe in themselves, respect other people, and love nature and their countries. With international education, students acquire a global vision. All children have individual strengths and talents. We are dedicated to providing a quality international education, which will help students discover and develop their special talents and gifts. We will also help them achieve the best of their ability. Children who are immersed in a bilingual environment at this young age are much more capable of learning the rudiments of another language than if they were to start later. We pledge that students should set a high standard for themselves, in doing so, they will excel. They should also look at the strengths of others so that the best of others’ abilities can be achieved. If students can master the above, they are bound to succeed. View full school

  7. Welcome to Victoria (Harbour Green) Kindergarten. We are one of the two Victoria Kindergartens located on the Kowloon side, and welcome 430 enthusiastic students each day. Harbour Green campus runs trilingual programmes for 2 to 6 years olds from Pre-Nursery to K3, and proudly offers the IB Primary Years Programme and the Columbia University Teachers College Reading and Writing Project (TCRWP). We also offer cross-curricula enrichment activities in the areas of music, art, and sports in order to foster balanced development in our children. Large, open-space learning areas are a signature feature of a 21st century school environment. At Victoria Harbour Green, we have six different sections in our large open play area allowing for the development of literacy, mathematics, role-play, sensory, arts, and science. Each section of this play area is updated throughout the year and linked to the ‘Units of Inquiry’ students are investigating. Through innovative learning experiences, we are able to extend students learning from each individual classroom to the common play area so that they can make connections from the individual to the whole community learning level. Our library provides a relaxed and safe environment that offers repeated exposure to positive interactions. In this space students have access to a wide variety of books, and are exposed to diverse story times and lessons taught by our experienced librarian. All of these experiences have a significant impact on brain development, foster students’ curiosity to inquire, and help to develop vital early literacy and mathematical skills. Most importantly, our library provides an opportunity for students to develop a love of books and reading. The collection of books in our library is organised in connection with the six transdisciplinary themes, and the ten learner profile attributes of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme. As thoughtful educators who are committed to continuous improvement, we reflect annually on our curriculum and the way we teach it. Our well-trained teachers are able to deliver the most up-to-date cutting edge trilingual programme by applying their knowledge gained from participating in worldwide professional development workshops. Best practice of 21st century teaching and learning involves certain strategic, timeless elements. Flexibility is one of the key elements when delivering a programme which promotes skill driven, concept based and play based learning. We know that using technology with our students is also one of the keys in unlocking 21st century global skill sets. Hence, all our classrooms, including our library, are equipped with an Interactive Whiteboard and a visualiser which are used to enhance learning. All of our teaching staff are enthusiastic, energetic, qualified, native English, Putonghua and Cantonese speaking Early Childhood Educators who are committed to working in a dynamic environment. They are recruited from all around the world including Europe, North America, and Asia. As lifelong learners, striving for excellence in Early Years Education, our teachers participate regularly in structured professional development opportunities. These include seminars and workshops conducted by experts from the International Baccalaureate Organization, project developers from Columbia University Teachers College Reading and Writing Project, and specialist early childhood educators from overseas or Mainland China. Location is not simply a matter of providing safe and enjoyable learning experiences for children. More importantly, parents appreciate the accessibility of our school. Victoria Harbour Green is conveniently located in one of Hong Kong’s developing areas - West Kowloon. Our school is easily accessible by the MTR which is just 5 minutes walking distance away from the Olympic Station. Located in a private residential estate, the safety and privacy of our students is of paramount importance. A warm, welcoming, and highly supervised environment is a must when it comes to early childhood education. View full school

  17. South Island is a proud member of the ESF family but this is a unique school with a particular and very special ethos. Put simply, it is our core aspiration that, during their time with us, every individual student makes a positive difference – a difference to their own lives and a difference to the lives of others. Our students and our outstanding staff team are our two most precious assets. Such is the caliber of our young people, from over 38 different countries, that we believe that there is no limit to what they can achieve. While we have high expectations and are ambitious for our students, we also know that for them to succeed, we need to provide a caring, supportive and challenging environment in which they can grow and flourish. I believe that this is such an environment. We celebrate a musical solo as warmly as we celebrate a student gaining an A*, a wonderful painting as happily as a top IB score, a great sporting performance as enthusiastically as a place secured at an Ivy League University. We underscore with all of our young people that what matters is not gaining qualifications for their own sake but learning – always being open to personal growth, having a mindset that welcomes and tackles problems, being resilient when times get tough. Our alumni have gone on to all of the world’s elite Universities and many have created brilliant careers for themselves – but hopefully, they also leave here with a set of values, and a perspective on life that leads them to want more than simply the accumulation of wealth. South Island offers an extraordinary number of opportunities, both within our taught curriculum and beyond. This is a happy school with a great spirit and a sense that anything and everything is possible. Our purpose at South Island School is to raise consciousness in our school community about the way individuals make a difference in a complex world. Our learning philosophy and environment promote freedom of thought, expression, and action. We educate all students to develop their skills and their deep learning so they can make informed decisions and take action responsibly. We believe that individual success will be demonstrated when our students are happy, resilient, and curious thinkers who thrive in an inclusive, resourceful, and compassionate community. We aim to offer the opportunities and the guidance for them to become honest, responsible, and courageous citizens. We want all of our actions as a community to promote learning and the holistic concept of sustainable futures. South Island School is a rich and diverse community. We seek at all times to raise the consciousness of the inter-connectedness of the world and our place within it. We strive to promote freedom of thought, leading to actions that have personal meaning and local or global significance. Students are encouraged, through the curriculum and in their day-to-day school lives, to develop their international mindedness and an appreciation that there are many different perspectives from which to view our human existence. As we reflect in our Making a Difference philosophy, education for internationalism continues outside the classroom with the intention that providing diverse learning environments allows students to value the world as the ultimate context for their learning. The great majority of our extracurricular activities (for example, Model United Nations and TEDx) and our MaD Service trips (to countries such as Laos, Thailand, the Philippines, and China) provide students with the opportunity to engage in cross-cultural perspectives and issues. Teachers at South Island School understand the importance of supporting students to comprehend and act on needs that may be far from their geographical context – but at the same time not to neglect human and intercultural issues within their environment where inequities and misunderstandings continue to exist. We celebrate the fact that the diversity within our school community supports students, both in understanding global issues and in developing pluralistic attitudes. We believe that this environment allows our young people to embrace the differences which surround them, almost intuitively at times and without conscious intent. Chinese students dance in Diwali celebrations, Europeans join the Lion Dance Team, our sports teams do not separate on racial lines, our student leaders come from all sections of our community. We promote a wide range of languages through our curriculum (Chinese, French, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and others) to show an appreciation of multilingualism and as a reflection of our common humanity and our cultural difference. ib-lp-English-pos-copy or School Philosophy merges completely with the intentions of the IB Learner Profile (see diagram). We see the Learner Profile as the aspirational ‘end’ and the IB Approaches Learning (ATLs) and Service Outcomes as the means to that end. We intend that a graduating SIS student will have a personal profile that shows progress and personal development again all ten elements of the Learner Profile. We do not see that the Learner Profile is a tool, in itself, for measuring progress but that it is a summation of all of the experiences that an SIS leaner is exposed to during school life. The three strands of our curricular offer – academic, pastoral and Values in Action and the personal portfolio that a student will build against each of these three organizers are the tangible record of progression and achievement towards the aspirations of the Learner Profile. South Island School is part of the English Schools Foundation of 22 Schools in Hong Kong that operates within the ESF government ordinance. The school is accountable to the Board of Governors (Executive Committee) of ESF but has its own School Council (local Governing Body) comprised of parents, community members, staff, and students. The Chair of the School Council is an independent person and is appointed to the school by the board of Governors. The School Council oversees the strategic direction and the performance of the school. The Council meets around six times per year. It has two sub-committees, namely Finance and Personnel (FP) and Learning and Professional Development (LPD) both chaired by community representatives. Among other matters, the FP sub-committee reviews the school’s annual budget and recommends acceptance to the full council. It also reviews personnel matters and considers health and safety issues. The LPD sub-committee’s work is more aimed at, inter alia, curriculum development, teaching methods, and examination performance. View full school

Our entire staff is committed to establishing a school environment that allows students to enjoy their learning experiences, and to flourish and grow at all levels. The immersion setting we provide demonstrates our emphasis on developing children’s early biliteracy and trilingual skills. We facilitate such language development by implementing the “one teacher-one language” arrangements in classrooms, thus allowing children to learn and interact with native speakers of different languages: English, Cantonese, and Putonghua respectively. 21. We believe a good pre-school education must be able to discover and develop the talents of the individual child. To achieve this goal, we place balanced emphasis on all areas of children's early development including language & cognitive, physical, mathematics, science, arts, social skills, and emotional. We also build children's understanding of responsibility as important members of society. It has been over 20 years since our first Think International Kindergarten was founded in Laguna City in 1994. I am so pleased to witness our students growing, learning, enjoying, exploring, and achieving at Think. Each child is unique, with different potentials. We believe childhood is a crucial stage to discover and develop children’s talents. We are dedicated to providing well-balanced quality educations that build far-reaching foundations for children to further grow, achieve and succeed in this ever-changing society. At Think, we have a team, a family of committed educators who strive for learning excellence for children. We are proud that our graduates are well prepared for their primary school, be it a Cantonese-speaking government school, a Putonghua-speaking direct subsidy school, or an International School. Their solid language skills ( two written and three spoken ) gives them a sound foundation to learn in these languages. Our inquiry approach in the classroom and our teaching through interactive whiteboards, open the children’s eyes to how they can learn and prepare them for creativity and critical thinking. Think International Kindergarten/Nursery was founded on August 1st, 1994 at Laguna City, to provide bilingual pre-school education to children living in the community and to prepare them for international primary Schools or local primary schools.
