UMONS welcomes students and researchers of more than 40 nationalities. UMONS also plays a central role in many academic and scientific collaborations worldwide, with over 300 international partnerships in more than 50 countries spanning five continents.
Mobility grants awarded to UMONS come from both the European Commission and the Wallonia-Brussels Federation (FWB). The grant amounts vary from year to year, depending on the subsidies received by UMONS and depending on the evolution of the allocation rules required by the fund providers (AEF-Europe / European Commission / FWB).
All students registered at UMONS on either the 1st cycle (courses in the 2nd year of a Bachelor'sBachelor's), second cycle (Master), or third cycle (Ph.D.) studies are eligible for a mobility grant unless otherwise specified in their mobility agreement.
The subsidy to be given to students falls within the student mobility "stage" (placement) subsidy when the home institution awards the ECTS credits and within the student mobility "cours" (courses) subsidy when the host institution awards the ECTS credits.
Since we are faced with the South'sSouth's huge needs in health, energy, environmental management, logistics, infrastructure, and academic cooperation, be a development factor?
Academic cooperation helps develop teaching and research, but it can also contribute to training other people through these universities and other higher education institutions that we help to function better. Our help comes from training teachers and researchers and improving these institutions' running (student cards, computer networks, libraries, governance, communication, etc.). Those that have been trained then, undeniably, become powerful actors in development. It is on them that the other "big" cooperations will be based. Investment in human resources is indeed one of the most enduring factors.
Therefore, academic cooperation is a development factor in itself, and our long-term vision can be explained with five words: "be better in the South." For a promising young scientist, opportunities should be equal in both the north and the south to prevent brain drain and facilitate these scientists'scientists' integration into the international scientific community.
