  1. This university was established out of the inspiration and ideas of many people. Contributions, including from Kumamoto Prefecture and Tamana City, two former cities, ten former towns, the donations of many people, and the local community's enthusiastic movement bore fruit so that a "mixed public-and-private" university could be established. That is why we think this university always wants to remain as a university opened by the local community. So, asking the local community people to use the university facilities, including the library, is a natural thing and, in addition to that, we think that it is the mission of an open university to be also useful as a place for lifelong study through open courses. From all over the country, we want to ask our students to put their study into practice at the Kyushu University of Nursing and Social Welfare by benefiting from their many new encounters and contacts. Modern people are demanding reflection on the principles of medical care. These principles constitute a well-balanced set of proposals. In other words, people hope that medical care will assist their becoming sound physically and mentally after they leave the medical care facility and return to their daily lives. The core of such assistance is nursing and social welfare for social life, health care, medical care, and social welfare. Here is where health care, medical care, and social welfare meet, and we need to put these fields into one integrated activity. Therefore, we can gather people from every part of Kyushu and, at the same time, be a strategic point to educate professionals. Our university can be a center that develops education and research activities in health care, medical care, and social welfare. Established in this region, our university contributes to the health care, medical care, and social welfare of the people of the community of Johoku, Kumamoto Prefecture. Besides that, our university illuminates new directions in health care, medical care, and social welfare to our country. Consequently, we aim to open up new views. In this manner, while our university, regarding its education and research, performs activities in well-balanced health care, medical care, and social welfare, our goal is to reach all Kyushu areas and beyond to the whole country with such activities. This is the philosophy of the foundation of our university. We aim to deliver to society professionals who have the profound ability of critical thinking and capacities for action in health care, medical care, and social welfare. To do that, we established five departments (Department of Nursing, Department of Social welfare, Department of Rehabilitation, Department of Sports Acupuncture and Moxibustion, and Department of Oral Health), and we encourage education through research by establishing a graduate school. While all departments are specialized and cover different specialty areas, in the areas of overlap and many points commonly found among the health care, medical care, and social welfare departments, this sees many standard courses in the departments' curricula. Additionally, since our students all spend their time on one campus, they have many chances to influence one another positively. As a result, we are proud to educate students who are gaining an expansive variety of academic knowledge.

  4. Tokyo University of Social Welfare campuses is located across Japan's urban areas such as Tokyo(Ikebukuro and Oji), the capital city, Nagoya, the third largest incorporated city in Japan, and Isesaki City in Gunma Prefecture. Isesaki, which is about 90 minutes away from central Tokyo, has a large, beautiful campus area. TUSW provides an excellent education. Many of its graduates take leading roles in Japanese society. TUSW has the right Japanese Language Program, various Undergraduate and Graduate programs for international students as well. We want to welcome many international students. We hope they will learn the Japanese language and culture in TUSW to become specialists in various fields in societies. Tokyo University of Social Welfare aims to international social contribution, and we positively accept international students. High-skilled professor teaches classes, and specialists support students' everyday lives. The Nagoya campus of Tokyo University of Social Welfare offers apartments located close to the campus so that international students can start their college lives from the day they arrive. The apartments contain household goods such as beds, refrigerators, microwaves, etc. Therefore, they can live very comfortably and focus on their studies. TUSW organizes short-term study abroad programs in the United States, China, and Korea, aiming to nurture young people with global perspectives. It is open to all students who wish to participate. While staying in the United States, the center of the world that sets the global standard, or China, which continues its economic growth at a fantastic pace, or Korea, a neighboring country with close connections, students would interact with various people and experience diverse days. Through experiencing a foreign culture, participants would be able to broaden their perspectives significantly. Participants stay in dormitories of distinguished universities globally, such as Harvard University, Fordham University, Hainan Normal University, Shanghai Normal University, and Kyungdong University. Lectures are provided by local professors and translated into Japanese. Participants also visit various social welfare or childcare institutions. By attending lectures and visiting institutions, participants would learn about the current practice in health care, social welfare, and education, and acquire theory and practice of social welfare. In all programs, local students who speak Japanese would help the participants enjoy campus life in a foreign country. In addition to organizing study abroad courses, TUSW also admits many international students.
  5. To keep the pillars of our civilization healthy into the future, we need to keep the underlying spirit of service alive by taking care of our weakest and oldest members and preparing for the upcoming changes that will take place in our societies. Our University is expanding into new fields to address the needs of a constantly changing society and reach out across the borders to work together for a better world. Getting to know each other will better further the ultimate goal of harmony and altruism We started very humbly as a college in 1966. Following our dreams, our institution has grown into a well known and respected university trying to achieve excellence with a strong desire to continue developing. The joy of health and the compassion that arises from sorrow is the source of energy that will unlock your inner potential. We want to invite you to consider Takasaki University of Health and Welfare as your University of choice when selecting to study in Japan. Beginning in 2011, we are welcoming international students to come and experience living to their fullest. Takasaki is waiting to make you feel at home. Takasaki University of Health and Welfare established the Child and Family Support Center in 2005 to support children and their families' health. Since then, the Center has been working to tackle mental and physical health issues through consultations with pediatricians, psychiatrists, nurses, clinical psychologists, social workers, and childcare specialists. This program started in April 2006; all parents and children who can visit the Center are welcome to attend. Sessions are held from Monday to Thursday, twice a month on alternate weeks from 10:30 to 12:00. They are divided into five or six groups of parents with pre-kindergarten children aged 0 to 3. At these sessions, parents and children enjoy seasonal songs, exercises, and creative activities, as well as sharing a lunch box before going home. During the lunch break, a selected professional such as a psychologist, pediatrician, family health specialist, childcare specialist, or a mental health and welfare specialist will deliver a concise lecture related to their specialty, after which parents can follow up with questions or other inquiries about child-rearing issues among others. This program is one of the core activities of the Center. It has been shown that mothers who have participated in this Parent and Child Classroom have experienced, among other benefits, a significant mood improvement. International students who passed the Japanese Exchange Test and enrolled in Takasaki University of Health and Welfare are eligible for a scholarship that covers 30% of the annual tuition and enjoy the regular benefits granted to regular students.
  6. The University was established in 2001 to train future health professionals in health and social welfare sciences. Currently, more than 4,000 graduates are working, not only in Japan but also in foreign countries, as "QOL (quality of life) supporters" involved in the care of the elderly, patients undergoing medical treatment, and the disabled. Fostering "qualified QOL supporters" has been our School's primary emphasis since its foundation. The Undergraduate School has four faculties consisting of eleven departments. In the Faculty of Medical Technology, the departments include Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences, and Prosthetics & Orthotics and Assistive Technology Clinical Engineering and Medical Technology and Orthoptics and Visual Sciences, which was newly instituted in 2014. In the Faculty of Health Science, the departments include Health and Nutrition, Health and Sports, and Nursing. The Faculty of Social Welfare consists of a single department, the Department of Social Welfare. The fourth faculty is the Faculty of Healthcare Management, which consists of the Department of Health Informatics. There are about 3,400 students now taking a wide range of courses in these faculties. Our graduate school started in 2005 and now has four master's courses with majors in Rehabilitation Sciences (Master of Rehabilitation Science), Social Welfare (Master of Social Work), Health Sciences (Master of Health Science), and Health Informatics and Business Administration (Master of Health Informatics and Business Administration), which was just established. The School has one doctoral course with a major in Health and Welfare (Doctor of Health Science). Out of 102 students, 74 are in the master's courses and 28 in the doctoral course, as of April 1, 2014. As a matter of educational policy, we pay special attention to interprofessional education (IPE). It is necessary for students to participate in a learning system shared with different professional trainees based on the multi-disciplinary healthcare team's concept and to understand the roles of the different professions within the team. IPE can increase patient satisfaction and a reduction in medical expenditures. With the increase of globalization in the form of the influx of health care professionals into Japan from abroad and vice versa, the IPE has been becoming more important than ever for students and professionals in health-related fields. We want to encourage students with scientific interests in improving people's health to become "qualified QOL supporters" with the intent to work worldwide in the future. We have been conducting collaborative research with international professionals, especially those from countries in Asia and the Pacific region. Therefore, we are looking forward to producing modern scientific and technological achievements with the international community of health professionals who share a common interest in health science and health care. Basic Goals for NUHW: To foster health professionals who will work not only in the super-aged society but also in the upcoming global society in Japan, we aim to increase students from 2800 to 5000 within ten years. To produce qualified QOL supporters who will work in the super-aged society and the upcoming global society in Japan, we provide educational support for all our students and graduates. They can work not only in local communities but also in many parts of the world. Also, we provide the basis for education and research according to the following ten domains (refer to the table below). Long-term Goals (2010-2020) Mid-term Goals (2014-2017)

View full university
  12. 13. Long-term Goals (2010-2020) Mid-term Goals (2014-2017) View full university
  14. View full university
