      4. The KHM logo looks like a black square. And that is what it is. But that is not all that it is: there is much more to it! When the designers Uwe Loesch and Michael Wichelhaus created the newly founded academy's logo in 1990, they chose a form that offers many possibilities to draw connections. The history of art over the last century has been full of obsessions for the square: one thinks of Kazimir Malevich's Black Square, Hans Richter's early experimental films, Samuel Beckett's television play Square, John Baldessari's photo series Throwing four balls in the air to get a square, etc. Squares have the advantage of being neither ornamental nor directional. As a neutral straight shape, neither portrait nor landscape, they illustrate the importance of each artistic decision concerning format (we are not limited to the big screen!). If you look at the logo more closely, it also becomes clear that it differs significantly from Malevich's Black Square. It does have two sharp and two blurred edges. The black seems rich in contrast on the sharp edges but diffuses on the blurred edges. From this perspective, the KHM logo turns out to be a test image for questions of perception. And there is more: one knows, since Goethe's Theory of Colours, that color phenomena can appear at the border between black and white under certain light conditions (this can be tested on the edge of a window frame in the light of morning). Our black square is, therefore, not only black but also virtually colored. Thus, the KHM logo touches on questions of design, art and film history, of format and perception. And if you enter the KHM address Filzengraben Köln in Google Earth, you will discover the following text written on a flat roof: WHITE GROUND BLACK SQUARE. Next to it is a square made up of smaller squares. It is the KHM's QR code. So the logo returns technologically. The black square has arrived in the Information Age. On October 15, 1990, with 25 students on the postgraduate "Audiovisual Media" diploma course 1994, expansion of the course offering to include the undergraduate "Audiovisual Media" diploma course since 2004 doctoral program 2010 renaming of the two diploma courses to "Media and Fine Art." According to § 1 paragraph 2 of the Kunsthochschulgesetz (Art Colleges Act), the KHM is a corporation under public law and an institution of the federal state of NRW. The responsible authority is the Ministry for Innovation, Science, and Research of the Federal State of NRW. Current agreements on goals and performance are agreed upon for respective periods of four years. The Academy of Media Arts Cologne (KHM) offers the demanding, project-based "Media and Fine Art" course, which gives each student the chance to choose between and individually combine various artistic emphases. The particularly experimental climate at the KHM facilitates independent artwork. The "Media and Fine Art" diploma can be attained via a 9-semester (undergraduate) or 4-semester (postgraduate) course. The cornerstone of the "Media and Fine Art" course is the individual development of artistic projects. The KHM accepts 70 to 80 new enrolments per winter semester, with an average of around 320 students in total, of which approximately one third are international students. The Academy of Media Arts Cologne diploma is comparable internationally to an MFA (Master of Fine Art).

At the core of our mission statement is the interaction between media and society. As a young media university, we see our task as offering high quality and effective study program that will prepare our students for the demands of a complex, ever-changing media world. Recent developments and job requirements of both the national and international media industries are always featured in our curricula. Given our core purpose, we offer a hands-on and business-oriented approach in our teaching and training, where theory and practice are closely linked. We have designed our available course offering to be academically sound as well as practical. The students' profiles, combined with their future career options, form the foundation of this practical, real-world approach. That is why our study courses are designed with in-built flexibility, which empowers students to find their way, based on their educational and professional profiles and their subsequent choice of specialization. The study curriculum aims to impart the necessary knowledge to them in media science, media economy, and media law while also developing their creativity and entrepreneurial sense of initiative. We combine this approach with a personal care concept that specifically addresses our students' strengths and needs. An inviting teaching and learning environment is one of the unique values of our university. Lectures take place in small study groups. Lecturers Allow enough time for questions from students and are also available out of class. This ensures intensive support and care from supervisors. Maintaining multi-faceted communication geared towards an "us-feeling" is a core element of our university's quality development. Personal contact between students, lecturers, and staff of the university is significant in our campus life. A culture of open communication ensures relationships of trust and strengthens the sense of community among all associated with our university. We see the encouragement of diversity and equal opportunities as an integral component of our educational mission. We would like to see all university members live out their potential, regardless of their gender, ethnic or religious affiliation, or family background. As part of our studies, we promote and require values such as commitment, motivation, team spirit, tolerance, critical ability, cosmopolitanism, curiosity, and the ability to cooperate and communicate. Our university is firmly oriented toward the maintenance and further development of stable and productive networks with companies in the media industry and educational and cultural institutions. The timeliness, practical relevance, and teaching concepts of the different courses should benefit significantly from this cooperation.
      6. The Institute of Advanced Media Arts and Sciences is often referred to by its abbreviation "IAMAS." A graduate-level educational institution founded to explore the fusion of technological innovation and artistic creation, IAMAS strives to transmit new forms of culture and to serve as a hub for the cultivation of new creators for our information society. Since its establishment, many talented people have honed their skills at IAMAS and gone on to work in a wide array of fields related to media culture and industry, garnering high esteem both in Japan and abroad. IAMAS's diverse programs have evolved with the changing times: with interactive design and media projects that generate new tools and techniques, media art that explores new kinds of creative expression, and social design that envisions new possibilities for society, IAMAS abounds with passion for pioneering the unknown. It is here that teachers and students, possessing experience and insight in a wide range of fields and a strong determination to create new things, gather together to inspire one another to take on the challenges posed by modern society. One of the exceedingly great charms of IAMAS is its status as space where people from diverse backgrounds can engage in deep collaboration while researching and creating. A master's course with a single primary and department of Media Creation, research at IAMAS is conducted by a small, select number of people whose learning environment is limited to 20 students each academic year. To facilitate each student's research, IAMAS provides an environment that allows them to devote themselves to their work while consulting with teachers and classmates of diverse expertise. IAMAS has a project-focused, pragmatic course curriculum that familiarizes students with the process of pursuing a work from its conception as an idea to its realization as a social product. Each student is provided with one of the latest notebook computers and can freely use many of the applications necessary for their chosen research. Because IAMAS espouses an educational policy that seeks to develop abilities, both manual and mental, facilities have been prepared that allow students to use both of these skillsets. These facilities include a Prototyping Lab equipped with machines that aid in the rapid creation of maquettes and prototype models, a metalworking and a woodworking workshop, and film and audio studios. Students can use the school's facilities to devote themselves to their research and production at any time, day or night. On-site nap rooms and showers are also available. IAMAS relocated to the Softopia Japan building complex in April 2014. In this space where various organizations, information, and activities are gathered, IAMAS has been able to broaden its efforts further and explore and implement new forms of media creation in our city. This move has marked a new start for IAMAS. Our activities continue to expand along with society's changes even as we maintain and improve our research and production environment; we broaden our ability to coordinate within the school and outside individuals and organizations. As we inquire into how our work can benefit society, IAMAS delves further into media creation possibilities, continuing to develop as an institution that transmits new culture and ideas.

The Governing body of the Academy meets half-termly, however, in between these meetings, sub-committees also meet which focus on other areas of school life. Our Governors bring different areas of expertise to the academy and are all passionate about the success of the academy and work to secure the academy’s vision of excellence and high aspirations so that all our pupils can achieve excellence in all they do and can go on to lead happy and successful lives. The Manchester Creative and Media Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and visitors to share this commitment. 10. 12. Since the 1st September 2001, Hochschule der Medien has brought together the combined know-how of the former University of Printing and Media, an educational institution with over 100 years of tradition, and the University of Librarianship and Information whose history reaches back to 1942. With 16 Bachelor's degree programs and 6 Master's degree programs, a part-time MBA, and a doctoral program, Hochschule der Medien covers a broad spectrum of media expertise: from printed media to electronic media, from mass media and media theory to media production, from media design to making media available. At Hochschule der Medien, students learn in modern lecture theatres and workshops and studios, at printing machines, or behind the camera. Exciting practical projects in the University's laboratories or cooperation with partner companies complement theoretical knowledge and scientific working methods. Initially, the University had two campuses. Since 2014 the University consists of one central campus in Stuttgart Vaihingen with a new faculty building, symbolizing "one media world". Exchange students can choose from a variety of English-taught Minor Programs. Each Minor is one semester-long set program. Most Minors run every semester and usually consist of 30 ECTS credits. Please note that it is NOT possible to pick and mix courses from different Minors. To be admitted to one of our Minors, we expect students to have a language level of B2 or higher in English (non-native speakers need to include proof of language proficiency in their application documents). The Minor Program Advertising and Publishing focus on planning, designing, and producing communications in advertising and publishing. It covers the relevant areas on the path from the "first idea, "via visual design, to the production and dissemination of the finished product. With the specializations Analysis & Strategy, Design & Advertising as well as Publishing & Production, students learn about all the phases which are essential in the conception, publishing, and distribution of printed and digital media, including mobile web-apps. During one semester, students become familiar with the most critical methods in research, analysis, and marketing and will gain insight into market communication strategies and psychology. They become acquainted with the various creative design processes, such as design trends, photography, and interaction design. Additionally, our students are involved in the different publishing and advertising stages - from the selection and production of appropriate contents, their preparation for the most diverse forms of distribution, to duplication and distribution. A parallel practical placement/internship in the printing workshop of the University helps to make the pre-printing, printing, and post-printing processes understandable. In this way, the path taken for an advertising campaign from conception to a printed poster can be touched, which is positioned in the right location – can be seen vividly. Students will also see how a book is transformed from an idea into a multi-media product that fulfills the needs of a wide variety of readers and users with texts, images, and sound. Business information is distributed all over a company's ecosystem: from operational enterprise resource planning (ERP) to customer relationship management systems (CRM) towards social media platforms and external open data or market research data warehouse systems. The Minor Program Business Analytics focuses on managing and integrating business information, which is stored in large heterogeneous and distributed information systems. The Minor Program Games Technology provides a sound introduction to game development's technological facets in theory and practice. Students will get a brief overview of the history of game development, an introduction to business aspects and the basics of youth protection regulations, and an introduction to games design. They will also obtain profound knowledge about the architecture of game systems and gain an in-depth insight into their components' functionality. The Minor Program Media Creation & Management allows international students to gain inside knowledge to create and capitalize media. This includes having the idea, putting it into practice with production, and managing the results and finances. If you are interested in different aspects of the media business, if you want to be creative while learning more about operating media services, and to invent new business models – Media Creation & Management is the right program for you. The Minor Program Visual Communication is available every winter semester with the subject of interface and interaction design. Students will introduce user interfaces, acquire methodological knowledge in user-centered design, design interfaces for desktop or mobile systems, and learn the necessary skills of scripting languages. Lectures in information technology and psychological processes in visual communication between man and machine will extend the state of knowledge. The program "Mobile Media" is no Minor program. This means that there might occur time conflicts between some of the individual courses listed below. There is, however, the possibility to select additional courses from the area of Language, Culture, and Society if a particular study load needs to be achieved. View full university

      15. View full university
