- At St. Joseph’s, we believe that education is a partnership between educators, parents, and students. As partners in a collaborative process, we feel it is important that the parents and the school communicate frequently and effectively. As we start a new school year, we always take a look at the feedback from all of our stakeholders (parents, the community, the student, the teachers, and the administration). We are encouraged by what we have achieved so far but can see that we can become even better. Our school’s vision and mission have shifted to reflect these goals. We invite you to continue your support and participation in your child’s academic experience at St Joseph’s Private Language School – American Section. We are strong believers that we cannot work alone – a triangle of support is needed. This includes the school, the students, and you. We strive to teach our students life skills to help them when they reach the workforce. While not academic in nature, adhering to a company’s rules leads to promotions and advancement within a company. Therefore, our school also has policies about dress codes, timeliness, and homework assignments. With your understanding and support of the school’s rules and regulations, we will all work to ensure that each student receives his right to quality education. "Education is not a filling of a pail, but it is the lighting of a candle". Education is a life-long journey. To keep this long road successful and enlightened, our Academic Program is designed to instill into our student's joy for learning by empowering them with the information, knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to achieve their aspirations and reach their highest potential as complex critical thinkers, quality producers, collaborative and independent workers, self-directed learners, and responsible contributors to their society. All students can learn, but they learn at different rates and with different preferential styles and should be provided with a variety of instructional approaches to support their learning. The purpose of education is to challenge all students to develop to their fullest intellectual, social, emotional, and physical potentials. We must prepare all students for a knowledge-based, technologically rich, and culturally diverse 21st century. Diversity should be promoted so that isolation of racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups is avoided. St Joseph Private Language School - American Section (SJAS) affirms the uniqueness and dignity of individuals, inspires the pursuit of excellence, instills cultural values, fosters a commitment to service, and strives to develop a connection with the world community. In addition, SJAS highly values what is termed as LIFE (Learning, Integrity, Fellowship, and Excellence) which is displayed in the balanced and caring education we offer to our students. Our mission is to implement quality standards into our curriculums and teaching approaches to make our students stand out in society academically and professionally. Our vision of the school is to make it a place where children feel safe, learning is an exciting experience, and students are provided with the opportunities, which secure their successful future in their chosen careers. Our vision is to make the school a place where everybody feels respected and appreciated regardless of their nationality, religion, or culture. Our vision is to make sure the level of education is high, teachers are professional and the curriculums meet the standards of excellence The philosophy of SJAS is to create an excellent learning environment for the overall development of our students, thus enabling them to contribute positively to the local community and society as a whole. We intend to assist our students in preparing them to face challenges imposed on them by the information, globalization, and modern technology era. In our pursuit of academic excellence, we aim to provide quality education to our students by hiring qualified teaching staff with professional knowledge and experience. We aim to create an atmosphere of happiness, security, and constructive encouragement to promote students’ positive attitudes towards learning. We aim to propagate ideas of tolerance and understanding towards different nationalities, cultures, and religions. We aim to encourage our students to exercise the value of cooperation, responsibility, and self-discipline. We aim to foster the habits of care for the environment on a local as well as global scale. We aim to educate, encourage and challenge all students to fulfill their emotional, social and physical potential. We aim to make our students aware of the benefits of the opportunity of studying and living alongside people from various parts of the world, thereby facilitating the total development of each child within an ever-changing global society.

Gain the confidence and credentials to reach new levels of success. On the morning of September 15, 1851, some 30 young men gathered in the courtyard outside Saint Joseph's Church on Willings Alley, near Walnut and Fourth Streets, one block from Independence Hall. After attending High Mass and reciting the Veni Creator in the sanctuary, these young men were assigned to their classes in a building adjacent to the church. That September morning marked the beginning of rich and exciting history for Saint Joseph's University. As far back as 1741, a Jesuit college in Philadelphia had been proposed and planned by Joseph Greaton, S.J., the first resident pastor of Old St. Joseph's. The suppression of the Jesuits (1773-1814) and dissension within the Philadelphia Catholic community delayed the realization of Fr. Greaton's plans for another century. Credit for founding Saint Joseph's College is given to Felix Barbelin, S.J., who served as its first president. In January 1856, the College moved from Old St. Joseph is to a more spacious site on the fashionable Filbert Street. Due to financial difficulties, the College returned to its Willings Alley location in 1860. Shortly after that, the civil strife between the North and South became the first of many wars that would greatly diminish enrollment, and, through the Civil War and postbellum years, Saint Joseph's struggled to remain in existence. Throughout the 1980s and 90s, Saint Joseph's shifted dramatically from a commuter school with a Philadelphia base to a residential institution drawing most of its students from outside of Pennsylvania. As the University welcomed larger, more accomplished classes, the number of full-time faculty increased by nearly 80 percent. To accommodate the increased student body, Saint Joseph's embarked on a series of capital improvements that saw the McShain Hall residence center's construction and the Michael J. Morris Quadrangle townhouses. A new Chapel of St. Joseph, named for revered longtime administrator Michael J. Smith, S.J., provided a central place of worship for the University community. State-of-the-art Mandeville Hall was built to house the renamed Erivan K. Haub School of Business. The original Villiger building on Overbrook Avenue was given a technological renovation, made the new home of the University's social science departments, and christened John R. Post '60 Hall. In 2003 the University broke ground on new residence halls at the corner of 54th Street and City Avenue, known as Rashford and Lannon Halls, named after the University's 25th and 26th presidents, Nicholas S. Rashford, S.J., and Timothy R. Lannon, S.J. The 2008 acquisition of the adjacent 38-acre Episcopal Academy in Merion began Saint Joseph's most extensive expansion since moving to City Avenue. Renamed the James J. Maguire '58 Campus, it is home to multiple academic departments, athletic fields, the Saint Joseph's University Gallery, and the Kinney Center for Autism Education and Support. That same year, the University opened Hawks Landing, a parking and retail facility on 54th Street. The following fall, the beloved Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse was expanded into the Michael J. Hagan '85 Arena, ushering in the next century of storied Hawk athletics. The University broke ground in November 2010 for the John R. Post '60 Academic Center and the John and Maryanne Hennings Post Learning Commons. Dedicated in March 2012, this ambitious initiative brought high-tech facilities and collaborative learning environments to the University with a three-story, 35,000-square-foot addition to the Drexel Library. The new Villiger Hall, a 400-bed residence hall that opened its doors to first-year students in August 2012, graces the corner of Cardinal and City Avenues. In 2012, Saint Joseph acquired the former Cardinal's Residence from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Contiguous to the University's 48-acre Philadelphia campus, the 8.9-acre property includes a three-story, 23,350-square-foot main house and two additional buildings. The property has been renamed the Marcy Dugan Wolfington Campus. The main building has been transformed into the Maguire Wolfington Welcome Center, which houses the University's enrollment, admissions, and career development offices and serves as a stunning first impression to prospective students and their families. No longer the modest commuter college on what became Hawk Hill, Saint Joseph's is now a comprehensive, internationally recognized university with students from across the country and worldwide. Its Phi Beta Kappa chapter in Arts & Sciences and AACSB accreditation in the Haub School signal academic distinction in a wide range of undergraduate, graduate, and executive programs. From Willings Alley to City Line, Saint Joseph's is genuinely Philadelphia's Jesuit University. View full university

- St. Joseph's Preparatory School...St. Joe's Prep... "The Prep." Go anywhere in the Delaware Valley and say those words, and people will know. They will know the excellence produced here since 1851. They will know that a graduate of St. Joseph's Prep is more than just a scholar. Preppers are business leaders, in education, in law, in politics. They are "men for and with others" who serve their families, churches, and communities. We know that when it comes to selecting a high school for your son, you can pick a school or choose an education. At the Prep, students get TWO educations—one in the classroom and one from the world around them—and both create bright, passionate, and well-spoken young men, prepared to live life to the fullest and take on college and the world! We're proud of our Jesuit heritage, as well as our downtown location and its front-and-center access to all the culturally-rich "classrooms" a thriving city like Philadelphia has to offer--museums, outstanding sports facilities (like the Palaestra at Penn), the Schuylkill River, and more arts and entertainment than you can shake an orchestra baton at. With a "campus" like this, it's no wonder our students come out with a well-rounded perspective, a transformed sense of humility and justice, and an ever-open eye toward their city, their fellow citizens...and an entire world of possibilities ahead of them. St. Joseph's Prep is one of approximately 50 Jesuit secondary schools in the United States, and each one challenges its students to go beyond academic excellence, to be reflective, to be committed to the service of faith and the promotion of justice: to be "men for and with others." Our students grow and evolve in so many areas beyond their academic pursuits throughout their years at the Prep. The Profile of the Graduate at Graduation, a document was written by the Jesuit Secondary Education Association, offers each student an opportunity to become aware of whom they are becoming while in high school and why. Our goal here at the Prep is to graduate young men marked by the following characteristics: open to growth, intellectually competent, religious, loving, and committed to doing justice. Over the last two thousand years, a community of believers has struggled to lead lives modeled on the teachings of their Redeemer Jesus Christ and to spread the "good news" implicit in the New Testament accounts of His life. For almost five hundred years, the Society of Jesus--"the Jesuits"--founded by St. Ignatius of Loyola, has worked in that tradition of the Roman Catholic Church to bring to each new generation an appreciation of the importance of these Christian values in helping all to lead rich and meaningful lives. Founded in 1851 as a Jesuit secondary school for young men, St. Joseph's Preparatory School today strives to interpret the Ignatian charism for all of its students, stressing in particular that each one of them is an individual redeemed with a perfectible nature and, further, that all other human beings are similarly blessed and gifted. This invitation requires a habit of reflection and resolve that is modeled on the "Spiritual Exercises" of Ignatius and designed to promote the growth of a person who is striving to become more spiritual and loving, more intellectual and open, and, finally, ever more committed to promoting faith and justice. To promote this growth, the school embraces the Ignatian emphasis on a spirit of cura personalis, which affirms the value and dignity of every individual and trusts that students will prosper in an environment where they are nurtured and encouraged to make choices that are a manifestation of their most noble and generous instincts, the signs of the spirit of their Redeemer working within them. All of our faculty members incorporate the Ignatian tradition and teachings of the Catholic faith into their instruction. Each of our faculty members plays a critical and unique role in creating and sustaining our Ignatian tradition. Our faculty shares our goal of rooting our students in a personal relationship with Christ and fundamental Christian values. Additionally, and in proper Jesuit form, at the center of the Prep's academic philosophy is the Ignatian tradition of educating the mind and the heart. Meaning, no student should reach the end of his day feeling either unchallenged or unloved at our institution. View full school

- Welcome to St Joseph’s Primary School. To ensure that the Gospel values are reflected in all aspects of the school’s life, in the classroom and playground, and the relations between the pupils, the school staff. To ensure that all pupils are given equal opportunity to achieve their full potential, spiritually, academically, and socially. To encourage pupils to develop self-discipline, self-respect, and self-confidence. To provide learning experiences that will recognize the gifts of each individual and fulfill each pupil’s entitlement to the National Curriculum. At St. Joseph’s school, we aim to grow and learn together within a loving and caring environment which reflects the Gospel values. We encourage all our children to reach their full potential in all aspects of their education. Any attempt to continue to raise standards in our school must be focused on the classroom. Continued and sustained improvement is dependent upon sustaining the high quality of teaching and learning that is taking place daily. Across our school, the expectation is that all pupils are provided with high-quality learning experiences that lead to consistently high levels of pupil achievement. We aim to provide a high-quality mathematics curriculum, which allows the children to develop the skills they require for everyday life. Maths teaching enables pupils to reason mathematically and to build an appreciation of the power of mathematics, as well as to develop a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject. We follow The New National Curriculum Mathematics program of study. The programs of study are organized into distinct domains, within each year group. There are clear sets of objectives for Years 1 to 6. At St Joseph’s we aim to equip pupils with a strong command of the spoken and written word and to develop their love of reading, by providing children with rich and varied learning experiences. We believe that a high-quality education in English enables pupils to speak and write fluently so they can communicate their ideas and emotions to others accurately and expressively. Catherine McAuley Founded the Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy in Dublin, Ireland in 1831. She was requested to set up a convent here in Bermondsey by Bishop Griffiths at the request of Reverend Peter Butler in 1838 to help the sick poor and to undertake the education of the children of the area. The continuing success of the school has led to many achievements St Joseph’s has obtained Beacon status and currently highlighted on the Ofsted website as a ‘particularly successful school.’ In addition, the school has achieved ‘Healthy Eating Status’. Finally, to bring this early 20th-century building into the 21st-century extensive building work is taking place. This will ensure we can not only comfortably accommodate our pupils but allows us to provide resources and space for the broad, balanced, exciting, technologically based Curriculum.

We recognize that children can grow spiritually, emotionally, physically, intellectually, and creatively and so will consequently, achieve their very best in an ambitious, supportive environment. St. Joseph's is a Catholic school that seeks to live out the values of Jesus Christ. We promote these values by our words and deeds, a Catholic doctrine and practice, therefore, permeates every aspect of the school’s activity. We provide a Catholic curriculum, which is broad and balanced, recognizing every pupil is unique and is created in the image of God. Our curriculum is designed to enable every pupil to discern their vocation and to be well equipped to follow it as active citizens in service to the world. Catholic Religious Education is the ‘core of the curriculum’ and the foundation of the entire educational process. We also provide a wide range of extra-curricular activities and strong pastoral support. We incorporate democratic principles, the value of the rule of law, support individual liberty and foster a community in which different faiths and beliefs are respected. - Welcome to Saint Joseph’s Catholic Primary School. As a Catholic School, this too is our Mission. We want all of our children to love learning, achieve well, develop a spiritual dimension to their lives and be able to form positive relationships with others. Parents are the first teachers of their children, so as a school we look to work in partnership with families to help, guide, and nurture the children in our care. At Saint Joseph’s our priority is to ensure all children feel protected and safe. We strive to maintain and develop an atmosphere of love and trust and respect for all the different people who make up our community. We are a small multicultural family, welcoming, joyful, and relaxed a family of faith, ready to meet each other’s needs. Saint Joseph’s is a one-form entry, multicultural, Catholic primary school situated off Borough High Street in the ‘shadow of The Shard’. Although we serve a mainly Catholic Community, we also have children of other faiths and none. We are very much a ‘family’ community where there is respect and understanding of all the different people, whatever their background, who make up our school family. Over thirty different languages are represented in the school. Our children are and adults in school strive to set positive role models for the families who make up our community. We are an inclusive school, working together as a team to ensure each child achieves their best. And the child Jesus increased in wisdom, stature, and in favor with God and men. Such an understanding of the meaning of the life of every person born into this world offers the model for everything we do at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Primary School. More importantly, we try to keep a feeling of love and trust, and respect for all the different people who make up our family. We are a small mixed team, welcoming, joyful, and relaxed family of faith, ready to meet each other’s needs. The power we seek is to know the wonders of God’s world. It is fun to discover, learn and explore. We are all special with our gifts and talents. We try to bring out the best in ourselves and everyone. We never give up on anyone. We look beyond our school to our homes, to local people, to local schools and workplaces. We are happy to show and to share what we love the most. In all this we look to the future: we need help to become more independent to prepare us for whatever life will give us and ask of us. As a Catholic school, our Catholic identity is very important to us. Throughout the year we celebrate the Liturgical Year as a school community and we try to involve our families wherever possible. By helping our children to understand the Catholic Christian traditions, they learn to respect and understand the beliefs of other world faiths. Church Feast Days are also celebrated in school with either Mass or a non-Eucharistic liturgy. St Joseph’s feast day is a particularly special day of celebration marked by liturgy and a ‘treat’ for the children. Each class has a Prayer space that is decorated to reflect the liturgical year and there are class prayer books which the children take in turns to take home and write a school prayer. Prayers are said daily at the start of the day, lunch-time and before the children go home at the end of the day. Individual classes also take turns in preparing whole school assemblies or liturgy for their parents. Years 4,5 and 6 celebrate a Class Mass based on some recent RE work that they have been studying. Jesus shows us what it means to be fully human. Our curriculum is planned to enable the children to develop to their full human potential: physically, intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually, each according to his or her ability and age. As a Catholic school, Saint Joseph’s has a special role to play in the education of young Christians. Our approach to religion does not seek to “compartmentalize” but rather tries to get children to see God at work within the context of the children’s everyday lives. Our Religious Education teaching uses the ‘Learning and Growing as the people of God’ program which is taught from Year 1 to Year 6. In the Foundation Stage areas of learning are taken from the National RE Curriculum Directory and taught through the termly topic. Therefore we aim to provide a broad and balanced curriculum that offers the best education for our children. And since ultimately everything relates to God, every part of the curriculum has a spiritual dimension. In the Foundation Stage (Nursery and Reception), the curriculum is organized into seven areas of learning. The characteristics of effective learning are key to planning for the Foundation Stage. These are: Playing and Exploring (willing to have a go and find out) Active Learning (concentrating and keep on trying) and Critical Thinking (problem-solving / finding new ways to do things). The learning in Key Stages 1 and 2 follows the National Curriculum (2014). Teachers plan an exciting and stimulating curriculum to promote active learning. A variety of learning styles are used to encourage independent and group learning and to developing thinking skills.
- St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary School is a vibrant and historic part of the neighborhood of Hendon in North West London. Founded in 1882 initially as a boarding school, the school has survived two World Wars and gone from strength to strength. We work to give our children the best possible education in the fullest sense of the word – academically, spiritually, and emotionally. The gospel principles of loving your neighbor, compassion, and justice permeate all aspects of our school life. We are a friendly and outward-looking school community, welcoming families from all parts of the world. We are proud of our success in academic exams and achievements on the sports field, and we also have good links with local, national, and international charities and organizations. Our achievement in being graded “Outstanding” in every area by OFSTED in 2006 and 2009, as well as in our R.E. inspections, supports our commitment to high standards and academic excellence. We are a happy and caring community with a dynamic, inspiring, dedicated, and experienced teaching staff who see their role very much as a partnership between you and your child. The quality of the relationship between pupils and staff is exceptional and at the very heart of the school’s success and happiness. We are proud of our academic, sports, musical, and extra-curricular achievements made possible by the commitment, engagement, enthusiasm, and energy of all who make up our school community. Our children are nurtured and helped to reach their full potential in an atmosphere of love and trust. We are a diverse community and value children from every race, gender, social background, physical or intellectual achievement. We are passionate about educating the whole child. Our vocation is to ensure that all children have access to a rich and vibrant curriculum that offers them the rigor, relevance, and relationships that will enhance their life, all in a nurturing environment. We recognize that each child is different but we make sure that, through encouragement and by developing their talents, each child is the best that he or she can be. Academic success, however, important as it is, is incomplete without our Catholic ethos, which underpins everything we do. By working together with parents, we aim to foster in our pupils a love for the Church which will help them to grow and develop as they make their way through life. Quite simply, we see our principal role, as a Catholic school, to be part of the apostolic mission of the Church. The School aims, through the provision of a Catholic ethos and of sound teaching, to prepare our pupils for life as Catholics in society. Within school, pupils are actively encouraged to make choices, knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment. As a school, we educate and provide boundaries for young pupils to make choices safely, through the provision of a safe environment and empowering education. Pupils are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms and advise how to exercise these safely, for example through our E-Safety and PSHE lessons. Whether it be through choice challenges, of how they record, or participation in our numerous extra-curricular clubs and opportunities, pupils are given the freedom to make choices.
- If your child has joined us for the first time, we welcome you as parents and look forward to a happy and successful association over the coming years. To those of you who have had children at the school for some time, we hope that we can continue the links between us. This booklet provides information on the school, its aims, curriculum, and activities. Confidence in a school comes from knowing and understanding what is happening within it. We hope that you will extend your knowledge through contact and discussion with members of staff and me. In that way, we shall be doing the utmost for the spiritual, social, intellectual, and physical development of every child. If at any time you have a query please do not hesitate to contact me. The information in the handbook is correct at the time of publication and meets the requirements of the Education (School Information) Regulations. However, it cannot be assumed that there will be no change in the arrangements described during the year. St Joseph’s is a co-educational day school. As a voluntary aided Catholic School, the basic religious ethos is to be found across the whole curriculum and with the framework of the School’s Mission Statement in mind, the aims of St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School are: We aim, in partnership with our families and the wider parish community, to enhance the spiritual and secular development of all our children in the light of the gospel values and accordance with the teaching of the Catholic Church. We aim to create an environment within the school that provides for spiritual growth. To promote an atmosphere that will enable “All” to relate to experiences that truly reflect faith, hope, charity, trust, forgiveness, compassion, and understanding. We aim to recognize and respect the different stages of people’s faith journey and to foster a working environment that allows all the people involved in any respect, great or small, of the children’s education to feel valued as a real and important part of the whole process. We aim to constantly seek to improve the quality of learning and teaching which directly results in high standards of pupils’ achievement. To enable each child to acquire knowledge, skills, and practical abilities through the use of a variety of teaching styles and learning opportunities.

- It’s not easy to put it into words, as the real difference is in our culture – which probably has to be experienced first-hand to be understood. Our difference is most evident in the behavior of our students – from their sense of community, their respect and support for others, their confidence and courtesy, their aspiration and achievement, their effort, enthusiasm, and eagerness to help. It is equally present in every interaction between staff and students – the mutual faith and trust, the care and support, the recognition that everyone is here to enjoy their time and to do everything the best they can. You will get an immediate impression by simply walking up the drive – into 60 acres of beautiful parkland near to the center of Ipswich, providing the backdrop to the really important lessons in life, to a wealth of memories, and long-lasting friendships. The Marist Brothers founded the College in 1881, and Catholic faith values are central to everything we do. We strive to provide boys with a quality education that draws faith, culture, and life into harmony. We give boys access to exceptional learning opportunities within a caring, compassionate, and highly supportive Christian environment. The St Joseph's College community celebrates learning, recognizes achievement, and rewards those who continually strive to do their best. It is essential to encourage our young people and their learning and growth journey, so they are compelled to use their talents in others' service. We endeavor to help them develop their skills, along with a strong sense of compassion and justice, so that they will make a positive difference to their community, their nation, and their world. Our Catholic faith values, and our Marist spirit, underpin everything we do and set us apart from other places. At St Joseph's College, we educate boys of character and soul, guiding them with the example of Jesus Christ to be capable and compassionate young men, taking their place with confidence and integrity in their families, communities, and workplaces. St Joseph's College is a Catholic school in the Marist tradition. Our vision is to educate boys for life, learning, and leadership for the common good. We reaffirm the values and traditions of a supportive, non-selective learning and Catholic faith environment. We commit to excellence in an integrated teaching and learning program, co-curricular activities, and pastoral care that seeks out, tests, and affirms the best in each boy. Our priority is to be known as a modern and successful school, building upon our great traditions, values, and community's strength. The document, which was more than 12 months in the planning and involved extensive consultation with SJC stakeholders, is a public commitment to the direction of the College over the next five to six years. The Strategic Plan 2013+ will support and further the vision and mission of St Joseph's by providing clear guidance for the College's strategic direction as a Catholic school educating in a Marist way. There are nine strategic priorities identified in the plan, each detailing several components and objectives identified as key to the future direction and development of the College and the College community. Over the coming years, the College will address each of these objectives and use annual implementation plans to track its progress. Headmaster, Mr. Ross Tarlinton, said the plan builds on SJC's history as a Catholic college in the Marist tradition. "It promotes a deepened sense of who we are and whom we want to be – both as a learning institution and vibrant community." "We are passionate about supporting and engaging members of our community and ensuring a strong and vibrant future for the College. The Strategic Plan 2013+ will position us to provide generations of boys with rich spiritual, academic, co-curricular, pastoral and social experiences which will help them develop into well educated, responsible young men of exceptional character." - St.

Our school is a community where children are received with care and affectionate regard so that they feel happy secure and respected in a Christian environment of well-balanced discipline and freedom. The SEND Local Offer is a resource that is designed to support children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities and their families. It describes the services and provision that are available both to those families in Manchester that have an Education, Health, and Care Plan and those who do not have a plan but still experience some form of special educational need. The SEND Local Offer includes information about public services across education, health, and social care, as well as those provided by the private, voluntary, and community sectors. In identifying a child as needing SEND support the class teacher, working with the SENDCo should carry out a clear analysis of the pupil’s needs. This should draw on subject assessments, teacher observations, details of previous progress and attainment, comparisons with peers and national data, as well as the views and experience of parents. The opinion and feelings of the individual and advice from external support services will also be considered. Any parental concerns will be recorded and compared with the school’s information and assessment data on how the pupil is progressing from the pupil's one-page profile. This analysis will require regular review to ensure that support and intervention are matched to need barriers to learning are identified and being challenged and that the interventions being used are developing and evolving as required. Where external support staffs are already involved their work will help inform the assessment of need. Where they are not involved they may be contacted, if this is felt to be appropriate, following discussion and agreement from parents. St Joseph’s is proud to be a Catholic School. Everything we aim to achieve will be based on the teaching and practice of the Catholic Church. Through this Catholic ethos, we strive to develop in the school community respect and care for everyone. In a partnership between staff, children, parents, parish, and the wider community we want to give every child the opportunity to fulfill their potential by developing their gifts and talents. We aim to create a successful learning environment where all feel welcome, safe, and part of the community. We wish through the whole life of our school for every child to realize their worth and value. Religious Education because of its object and its aim is the first of the core subjects. Whilst every subject contributes to a synthesis of culture and faith by integrating the various aspects of human knowledge it teaches with “the mystery of Christ”, Religious Education aims not only at intellectual assent to religious truths but the growth in love of Jesus Christ who is God.
- St Joseph’s is a Roman Catholic School. Its central aim is to help children know, love, and serve God and their neighbors. The whole of the curriculum content and methodology, especially the teaching and living of the Roman Catholic Faith, is designed to achieve this central aim. We aim to achieve the school’s Mission by working towards the following goals for all the children in our care. (Not in order of priority) To encourage them in the achievement of the highest standards in all curriculum areas. To promote their spiritual, moral, cultural, intellectual, and physical development. To develop lively enquiring minds leading to an understanding of the world and the interdependence of individuals, groups, and nations. To provide skills that will enable them to continue learning throughout their lives. To inculcate within them a love of learning. To develop within them a sense of self-respect, the capacity to live as independent, self-motivated individuals, and the ability to function as contributing members of cooperating groups. To develop their self-discipline, their ability to accept responsibility for their actions, and the realization that orderly behavior is essential for effective learning. To help them differentiate between right and wrong thereby developing the character to resist wrongdoing and injustice. To ensure they are aware of and feel responsible for their environment. To establish the Catholic Faith as a firm basis upon which their spiritual, moral, and social relationships can develop. The school is a Primary School and accepts children from September following their fourth birthday, until the age of eleven. Most of the learning is under the control of the class teacher who is with the children every day. We have additional support staff who work with the classes and with small groups, giving children opportunities for additional individual teacher attention. The classes are numbered according to the National Curriculum year group. Our core aim is to provide children with the skills, attitudes, knowledge, and confidence necessary to begin making informed choices for themselves. In following carefully planned programs of work in all subjects the children experience various approaches to problem-solving and are helped towards critical thinking. In both Key Stages, children are taught daily sessions of English and Mathematics, where levels of work are tailored to ability. A broad, balanced curriculum is planned and taught in line with National Curriculum requirements, in a happy and stimulating environment. Independent and collaborative skills are encouraged from the earliest years. Children are taught as a whole class, in ability groups, and on an individual basis. High achieving children receive enrichment activities to extend their learning. Parents are encouraged to take an active role in their child’s education. They are also invited to discuss their child’s progress with the class teacher regularly. Academic standards reached by pupils are consistently high. We intend that all children at St Joseph’s should enjoy their time at school, take great pride in their attainment and progress whilst learning to respect the disciplines and standards necessary for life. As part of a Catholic community, we involve the children in a variety of religious and cultural events appropriate to their age and development. The curriculum is based on seven areas of learning carried out in holistic topic-based programs. These specify goals for children’s learning on entering compulsory education. In summary, our school is much more than just an educational establishment. It is a place that offers children the stability and enrichment that they need to become the unique individuals God created them to be. I believe we provide an ethos where children learn effectively and develop into well-rounded and responsible Catholic citizens. Our School aims through the values of the Gospel to provide the highest standard of education by: Living the Mission Statement through our Caring Code and providing equality of opportunity. Providing a Catholic Christian setting in which children can become confident, resourceful, enquiring, and independent learners. Fostering the growth of commitment to the love and service of Christ through the teaching and practices of the Catholic Church. Promoting respect and understanding of other cultures and religions. Recognizing that parents are the prime educators and encouraging a close partnership between home and school. Educating the whole child to become happy, confident, caring, responsible future citizens. Providing a broad balanced National Curriculum underpinned by the Catholic Ethos. Encouraging high standards of behavior and all-around achievement for each child. Setting targets to enhance the quality of teaching and learning. Working in partnership with the Parish, local community, and industry to develop an understanding of the wider world. Our Mission Statement and Aims underpin every aspect of day-to-day life in our school community. To help achieve these aims our school offers a happy, safe and welcoming atmosphere. Children are encouraged to learn through the first-hand experience in a stimulating environment. Staff development is a priority, and the school boasts a highly professional team with considerable expertise. Our Academy Committee commits itself to support the development of our school.
- St. Joseph’s Convent School is an independent, Catholic school, for girls aged 3-11 years. As a school, we understand that the fullness of life is to be found when Christ is at the center of our lives. Our vision is rooted in the strength and guidance we receive from Christ at our core. We consider each pupil to be special with their unique potential. As a Catholic school with a strong understanding of the importance of both the local and international community, we strive to educate our girls to have a sense of identity and understanding of their place in the wider world. Children develop intellectually through a carefully planned curriculum that includes focused teaching and academic challenge, together with opportunities to build confidence and self-esteem, independence, and perseverance. The overall achievement of the pupils is excellent. By the school’s aims, pupils of all ages demonstrate a love of learning, fulfilling the school’s wish to promote the spiritual, moral, intellectual, aesthetic, and physical development of all members. We are a Catholic School and welcome children and their families of other faiths who support our ethos. As a result of academic success through guidance from committed teachers, the pupils are confident and aspirational. A high percentage of pupils at secondary level are offered places within the independent sector, many gaining scholarships at schools of their choice. Ambitions and dreams are encouraged and each pupil is inspired to reach their full potential. We have a holistic approach to children’s learning which supports their development as moral decision-makers. We inspire children to develop a joy of reading. Through reading and writing the power of imagination and critical thought are developed. We instill confidence to prepare children for the challenges of their future. Children learn with real understanding when they are actively involved in mathematical experiences. We enable children to develop the necessary attributes to form concepts, develop skills, learn facts, and acquire strategies for investigating and solving problems. To discover is to ask questions, explore, share ideas, make predictions, and test hypotheses. Children are supported to find answers, identify patterns and relationships and understand and the beauty and wonder of the world around them. We empower children as learners by building good ICT skills and using these to enhance all areas of our curriculum. Physical education is crucial to health, fitness, and well-being. It builds strength, maintains mobility, challenges body and mind, and helps each child to have confidence in their capabilities. Success in physical education enhances achievement in other areas of learning. It builds self-esteem, motivation, cooperation, and concentration and forms an important part of a balanced curriculum. As a school, we understand that the fullness of life is to be found when Christ is at the center of our lives. Our vision is rooted in the strength and guidance we receive from Christ at our core. By placing Christ at the center of all that we are and in all that we do, we move closer to our educational philosophy ‘in which faith, culture, and life are brought to harmony. We not only strive to develop pupils as learners with skills for the workplace and a responsibility to others, but we work to be a community ‘where the spiritual, cultural, and personal worlds within which we live are harmonized to form the roots from which grow our values, motivation, aspirations and the moral imperatives that inform our choices and actions as persons.
- St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Primary School is highly regarded within the local community and by the London Borough of Brent who has placed it in their highest category of schools. We had a successful Ofsted in 2013 when the school was judged 'Outstanding in all areas of the inspection and St Joseph's is now a National Support School. Teaching each pupil to fully develop their talents and aptitudes, to be able to meet realistic expectations, and to expect demands to be made upon them. We believe that this is what parents want from the school and to do otherwise would be a waste of a child’s potential. The curriculum is a broad and balanced one taught within the Catholic ethos of the school. The curriculum is demanding, challenging and rigorous. Pupils will learn good habits of work, develop their intellectual, moral, and spiritual skills to emerge as well-educated, responsible, and Catholic citizens. Pupils are taught using a variety of methods including whole class teaching, group work, and on a one-to-one basis. Teachers are very conscious that every child matters and adapt their teaching methods accordingly. The school actively promotes the National Curriculum aims to foster independent learning. At St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Primary School we strive to create a stimulating environment so that by learning, playing, and working together, we openly follow Christ’s teachings. We seek to offer every person the opportunity to be a unique and valued individual, sharing and developing belief in the teachings of Jesus through every day relationships and mutual respect in our dealings with one another. To achieve our mission: We stand on holy ground. We will always open our doors in welcome. We will always love and care for each other as Jesus taught us. We will always place the Word of God at the heart of our school. We will always be witnesses to our faith by following in the footsteps of Christ. St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Primary School is a community where the spiritual, cultural, and personal worlds within which we live are harmonized to form the roots from which grow our values, motivation, aspirations, and the moral imperatives that inform our choices and actions as persons. When pupils join our school they become part of this community. Every day starts with an Act of Worship, we give thanks before lunch and we end the day with a prayer. We offer each child a broad, balanced, and relevant curriculum of the highest standard to meet their spiritual, emotional, moral, intellectual, and physical needs and to prepare them for the responsibilities of adult life. The program of Religious Education we follow is in line with the Catholic Directory as specified by the Bishops Conference of England and Wales. Religious Education is taught to all children in the school for two and a half hours per week and is considered central to the whole school curriculum. We follow key teachings from Catholic traditions that are taken from the RECD (Religious Education Curriculum Directory). Through this directory, the children are taught the basics of Catholic faith and morality, with constant reference to their own life experiences. We have excellent links with our parish church, The Shrine Of Our Lady Of Willesden, with the parish priest making weekly visits to the school as part of our pastoral program. The school attends mass at The Shrine Of Our Lady Of Willesden on special occasions including Christmas and St Joseph’s Feast Day. The parish priest also celebrates mass at the school throughout the year including the celebration service for those who have recently made their First Holy Communion. Teachers are committed to ensuring each pupil fully develops their knowledge, skills, and understanding, so that they can meet the high expectations set. Our challenging curriculum starts with building firm foundations in English and Mathematics which is taught within the Catholic ethos of the school. This means that pupils will find other areas of the curriculum more accessible and relevant. Prioritizing depth of knowledge in both English and Mathematics ensures academic success. We dedicate a significant proportion of the school's timetable to Reading, Writing, and Mathematics to promote a love of reading, to develop fluent communication, and to build confidence in mathematical skills. The curriculum is demanding, challenging and rigorous. Pupils will learn good habits of work, develop their intellectual, moral, and spiritual skills to emerge as well-educated, responsible, and Catholic citizens ready for further education and future careers. Educational curriculum visits, full-day or 1/2 day outings, are arranged during the school year. They are a positive part of the curriculum and are centered upon topics covered and have strong educational content.
- St Joseph's Catholic Infant School is a Voluntary Aided School within the Diocese of Brentwood. Our thriving school community includes Nursery classes and links to our Junior School, Tollgate Teaching Alliance, and the Aquinas Learning Trust. Our grounds provide great opportunities for outdoor learning, as well as play, sport, and family events. This year we have seen a three million pound refurbishment take place which further demonstrates our commitment to make continuous improvement and invest in the education of our children. Our vision is for every child to make the best possible progress. We challenge children to achieve their best through an ethos of positive praise, high expectations, and providing the right level of support. Our committed staff team has developed an exciting and engaging curriculum that is based on the interests of our children. In 2017 we were ranked in the top 8% of schools nationally for phonics. Our end of Key Stage results are consistently significantly above the national average and indeed above other local schools. Every child is of equal importance and unique. Pupils and members of our community are valued for what they are rather than what they can do and are given every opportunity for educational development to the highest level possible. We are all equal and every child is provided with the foundation to become a life-long learner growing in confidence and self-esteem as well as developing a positive attitude to learning. In partnership with our parents and community, we share, inspire and motivate our children so they can be the best they can. We believe passionately in education and strive to provide a rich and varied curriculum to enrich our children’s lives. We aim to provide the foundation so that every child becomes a lifelong learner. The experiences gained with us are designed to have a lasting value. As Catholic educators, we strive to ensure children learn, not simply to excel academically, but to excel emotionally and care for each other. Our children learn to respect themselves, respect each other and the world around them. We are proud of our children and all they achieve. They are our finest ambassadors.
