St. Joseph’s Convent School is an independent, Catholic school, for girls aged 3-11 years. As a school, we understand that the fullness of life is to be found when Christ is at the center of our lives. Our vision is rooted in the strength and guidance we receive from Christ at our core.
We consider each pupil to be special with their unique potential. As a Catholic school with a strong understanding of the importance of both the local and international community, we strive to educate our girls to have a sense of identity and understanding of their place in the wider world.
Children develop intellectually through a carefully planned curriculum that includes focused teaching and academic challenge, together with opportunities to build confidence and self-esteem, independence, and perseverance.
The overall achievement of the pupils is excellent. By the school’s aims, pupils of all ages demonstrate a love of learning, fulfilling the school’s wish to promote the spiritual, moral, intellectual, aesthetic, and physical development of all members.
We are a Catholic School and welcome children and their families of other faiths who support our ethos. As a result of academic success through guidance from committed teachers, the pupils are confident and aspirational. A high percentage of pupils at secondary level are offered places within the independent sector, many gaining scholarships at schools of their choice.
Ambitions and dreams are encouraged and each pupil is inspired to reach their full potential. We have a holistic approach to children’s learning which supports their development as moral decision-makers.
We inspire children to develop a joy of reading. Through reading and writing the power of imagination and critical thought are developed. We instill confidence to prepare children for the challenges of their future. Children learn with real understanding when they are actively involved in mathematical experiences. We enable children to develop the necessary attributes to form concepts, develop skills, learn facts, and acquire strategies for investigating and solving problems.
To discover is to ask questions, explore, share ideas, make predictions, and test hypotheses. Children are supported to find answers, identify patterns and relationships and understand and the beauty and wonder of the world around them. We empower children as learners by building good ICT skills and using these to enhance all areas of our curriculum.
Physical education is crucial to health, fitness, and well-being. It builds strength, maintains mobility, challenges body and mind, and helps each child to have confidence in their capabilities. Success in physical education enhances achievement in other areas of learning. It builds self-esteem, motivation, cooperation, and concentration and forms an important part of a balanced curriculum.
As a school, we understand that the fullness of life is to be found when Christ is at the center of our lives. Our vision is rooted in the strength and guidance we receive from Christ at our core. By placing Christ at the center of all that we are and in all that we do, we move closer to our educational philosophy ‘in which faith, culture, and life are brought to harmony. We not only strive to develop pupils as learners with skills for the workplace and a responsibility to others, but we work to be a community ‘where the spiritual, cultural, and personal worlds within which we live are harmonized to form the roots from which grow our values, motivation, aspirations and the moral imperatives that inform our choices and actions as persons.
