About Me

  1. Greenwood Garden School was started in 1974 and has been in operation for more than forty years. We are an international pre-school and kindergarten for children aging from 2-6 with teaching being done in English by mother-tongue educators experienced with young children. The Greenwood Garden program bases its philosophy on the concept that each child is special. They learn through play, and learning centers provide opportunities to explore and discover the world while allowing the child freedom of choice. We desire to create a loving and secure “first step” environment for the young child attending school for the first time. We foster a school that emphasizes love and concern and where children are taught values and respect for others. We at Greenwood Garden School strive to prepare the young international child with a strong foundation in English and to provide comprehensive educational experiences which help to develop the whole child in a warm, supportive environment. The Greenwood Garden School program bases its philosophy on the concept that each child is special, with individual and unique needs. Children learn at their rate of development, through exploration and discovery in an integrated, multi-aged, and multi-cultural environment. Children learn best by doing, with an emphasis on the process rather than the product. We believe that the Early Childhood experience is a very important foundation for all children’s future learning attitudes. Children learn through play. What may look like “play” is a child’s “work”. Through directed play and learning centers children recreate experiences that help them understand the world. When you look in the classroom and see the children building with blocks, dressing up, modeling with clay, interacting with technology, and many other play activities, learning is taking place. We are laying cornerstones for math, science, and reading. Children are learning HOW to think, not WHAT to think. They are also enhancing positive self-esteem. We teach to the seven areas of learning identified by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Statutory Framework: personal, social, and emotional development communication and language physical development literacy mathematics understanding the world (science) and expressive arts and design. We promote the educational theories of Jean Piaget’s stages of cognitive development, Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences, Maria Montessori’s practical life experiences, Daniel Goleman’s theory of emotional intelligence, and Lev Vygotsky’s theory of play and Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD). Your child’s transition from home to school is encouraged in a caring and safe environment. The children are allowed to learn in a variety of ways to accommodate their learning preferences (auditory, visual, kinesthetic). They learn by doing sequential activities in all areas. The program balances small group and large group activities, quiet and noisy activities, large muscle and fine motor activities, listening and participation activities. Clear, age-appropriate expectations are set for behavior, letting the children know what is expected of them at school and allowing the teacher to encourage success while minimizing frustrations. Children feel valued, and the program helps them to develop a sense of trust and ownership with their school and learning.
  2. We are committed to ensuring that every pupil leaves our school with high aspirations, an enduring enthusiasm for learning, and the confidence to address the world on their terms. We teach key skills and knowledge that lead to understanding and develop the confidence to succeed. We are committed to providing a caring, happy, welcoming environment that meets the needs of each child and ensures that all children have equal access to a broad and balanced curriculum including interaction with, and appreciation of, the arts and many opportunities for wider enrichment. We develop in children a desire for life-long learning and an understanding of different cultures, traditions, and societies as well as to respect individual rights and responsibilities. Our learning community is facilitated by a leadership structure that communicates our core purpose and direction, and a system of informed continuous professional development. Our professional staff team actively seeks to take up opportunities to further their knowledge and skills to the benefit of our schools. We are committed to inclusion, believing that every child has the right to succeed. We take ownership of the responsibility to ensure that any barriers to learning are overcome and that all children experience success in contexts that are highly relevant for them. Our parents and community are key partners and we are committed to working together to sustain a strong sense of community, promote educational achievement, raise children’s self-esteem and engender a sense of pride in our schools and communities. Children can start Hoxton Garden Nursery in the school term following their third birthday. Coming to our nursery setting will allow your child to develop their social skills and begin to make new friends in a safe, educational, play-based setting that is run by qualified professionals. This is an important stage as it supports your child to develop and gain the skills needed for future learning including basic counting/number recognition, enjoyment of stories, phonics, social skills, and physical developmental play. From September 2017, some working parents will be eligible for a full-time place (30 hours per week) or a part-time place (15 hours per week). Parents can apply for up to six primary schools in Hackney including neighboring boroughs. If you want your child considered for our school, you will need to apply using the online application form. This is available from 1st September for admission to the following academic year. The form will be processed by Hackney Learning Trust. Early registration does not give priority as the closing date is the 15 January of the year of admission. Hoxton Garden Nursery is both part-time and full-time. We have 20 full-time and 12 part-time places available. If all the full-time places are not taken up, additional part-time places will be offered. If there are still vacancies remaining, parents with part-time places can ask to top up the part-time entitlement to a full-time place for which there will be a charge. At Hoxton Garden Primary School we offer a curriculum that is broad and balanced to ensure every child reaches their full potential and has access to a range of educational experiences whatever their starting points or circumstance. The curriculum incorporates the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum 2014. Pupils at Hoxton Garden are provided with a clear progression of opportunity to engage with and be part of, a rich, varied, and comprehensive curriculum that reflects the interests of the school, its staff, pupils, parents, and the wider national and global communities. Although literacy and mathematics are planned discreetly in weekly plans, many topic areas are relevant in these lessons, particularly through the choice of texts and writing outcomes in literacy. Whole-school approaches to reading support quality teaching and learning. Hoxton Garden works in close partnership with two other Hackney schools in a Hard Federation arrangement. This means that we share the same vision and aspiration that children deserve the best and work closely together to develop our curriculum, teaching, and community values together. We share a single Governing body and work under the title Viridis Schools with our Executive Headteacher working to secure working partnerships across and beyond our three schools. All three schools achieve above national averages at the end of KS2 and have many examples of excellent practice which we happily share in partnership work with other schools outside of our organization. If you would like to visit or have a particular area of school development you would like to explore with us we would be happy to help, please contact the Executive Headteacher Stephen Hall in the first instance via any one of the school offices. For our general Stay & Play, all children from Reception age upwards can attend the group. Children have a wide variety of games and films to choose from to keep them entertained, or they can use this time to catch up on any homework or reading. Both hot & cold food is provided with several options of juice drink for the children to pick from. Children must be pre-booked to attend the session, and you can do so by speaking to a member of staff in the front office. Class Council meetings take place every week and are run by the School Council members from each class. Their discussions with the class are based on the weekly agenda set by the School Council meeting, but also allow each class to raise any other business they think the School Council could be involved in. The NCA’s CEOP Command (formerly the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre) works with child protection partners across the UK and overseas to identify the main threats to children and coordinates activity against these threats to bring offenders to account. They protect children from harm online and offline, directly through NCA-led operations and in partnership with local and international agencies. The safety of our pupils in all aspects of their life is taken very seriously at Hoxton Garden Primary School. Within that remit, we are committed to educating our young people to be safe internet users and in supporting parents with this very important skill at home too. In school, we have an internet safety code of conduct that all pupils and staff are expected to adhere to. We have strong and constantly updated filters in place to protect and govern internet use. The most effective way to support our children to develop internet safe skills is to be aware of the dangers ourselves. Schools Direct @ London Metropolitan is a partnership of schools working together with London Metropolitan University to provide high-quality teacher training places. We represent schools across London, as part of a cross-capital alliance of schools that provide diverse contexts in which to train the new generation of London teachers. View full school

  4. Welcome to PIPS, Parkview Rhine Garden Preschool, and Parkview Rhine Garden International Nursery started in 1994 and is a pre-school which is diverse and dynamic. The Rhine Garden School is comprised of two campuses, which are located on the podium of Rhine Garden, Sham Tseng, in Tower One and Tower Five respectively. In September 2007, Parkview Rhine Garden Preschool (for 3-6 years old children) was transformed into a non-profit making school, where parents can enjoy the Pre-primary Education Voucher Scheme (PEVS) offered by EDB. At the same time, Parkview Rhine Garden International Nursery (for 2 years old children) remains in a private independent school where PEVS is not applicable. Our Music Room, irregular shape in dimension, is ideal for dancing and movement activities. Here children, led by our specialist music and class teachers, play musical instruments, do singing and dancing. The musical movement is one of our ECA and is conducted in the Music Room. Our Out-Door Playground is located at the podium level of the estate where the school building is situated. The use is based on a shared concession during school hours. There is ample room for the children to run about and train their gross motor skills. A lot of plants are there in the playground and they serve as a pleasant learning medium for children to explore life and nature. Cookery is fun for both our children and the parents who volunteer to help in the cookery lesson. Children have cookery once a week. To name a few of the “dishes” and snacks they make, muffins, cakes, assorted salad mixing bowl, vegetable dips… Aside from fun, cooking class serves as a meaning training for children. Children learn through the process, e.g. they learn food quality, hygiene, safety precautions, cooperation, and sharing. Because young children are very often allergy-prune, PIPS takes cautious measures at all times and maintains a health record for each student. View full school

Our curriculum is designed, based on the inter-related unit of themes and children learn through PLAY. We believe that through PLAY, young children develop sensory and cognitive senses, acquire social skills, problem-solving skills, language dexterity, and academic knowledge, and nurture creativity. Children come to PIPS at a different stage of their development, with different backgrounds and in different characters. The school plans programs and structured play-rich activities which cater to these differences. We provide children with the opportunities to explore the world around them and to take on new challenges so that they will become thinking children, self-esteemed, and independent. In planning our curriculum we welcome inputs from parents and teachers. View full school
  6. The school is situated in Hampstead Garden Suburb, at the southern end of the London Borough of Barnet. We are a three-form entry co-educational community junior school for children between the ages of 7-11 years. The school was originally opened in 1913. Part of the building was rebuilt in 1960 to replace damage caused during the 1939-45 War. There is an infant school on the same site and there are strong links between the two schools We believe that our schools’ values, curriculum, and ethos which permeate everything we do, reflect the British values of democracy the rule of law individual liberty mutual respect tolerance of other faiths and beliefs. Our vision is to cultivate excellence and enjoyment in teaching and learning within a safe, stimulating, and caring environment where the wellbeing of the whole child is nurtured and the achievements of each child are celebrated. We want to preserve and encourage the Infant School and the Junior School independence as well as enable close collaboration between the two schools. We recognize children learn and develop best when their education matches crucial phases in their development. Garden Suburb Junior School prides itself on an atmosphere of support, trust, and encouragement. Relationships between teachers and their pupils are excellent and as a consequence so too is behavior. Pupils appreciate the school's behavior management systems and as Ofsted observed on their most recent visit, behavior is "typically outstanding". Garden Suburb Junior School takes attendance and punctuality very seriously. Children must attend school regularly and punctually. This reinforces their sense of respect for the school and others and ensures they develop good habits of timekeeping. Garden Suburb Junior School is one of the leading state primary schools for chess in the country. Over the years, the teams have competed with great success in the National Primary Schools Chess Championships. The school has won the National Championships on three occasions, beating hundreds of schools from across the country. Families can often go through difficult times which impact a child’s emotional health. It is helpful if you inform the school if you are going through difficulties such as a relationship break-up, divorce if there is an illness in the family, or something that is upsetting the normal routines. When families are going through stress it can often impact children and their behavior. If we know we can support your child or just keep a watchful eye. We often support families through difficult times and can help ease stress for your child. We also have access to outside agencies that may be able to provide support. All such matters will be held in strict confidence. You may wish to make an appointment with the Head Teacher or just write the details in a letter. Some parents/carers find it difficult to attend fundraising events due to other commitments, so we are now following the path of many other state schools by pursuing a second strand of fundraising, by asking parents to contribute small sums regularly. This may appeal to those parents who do not have time to actively participate in fundraising but want to want to contribute. View full school

  8. Cherry Garden School is an outstanding special school for pupils from 2-11 years old in the London borough of Southwark. We are committed to providing individualized learning, support, and opportunities for pupils with severe learning difficulties, complex needs and autism, and to meet individual needs. In June 2015, the school once again had a very successful Ofsted inspection. The school was judged to be Outstanding. Our vision for ‘Nurturing success’ is embedded in the school’s DNA. We are constantly striving to create the right balance of ingredients to maximize the potential of every child. High expectations are set within a nurturing and fun environment where children are motivated. We aim to become a center of excellence by: Providing a learning environment that is professional and caring, encouraging continuous improvement for all, including schools in partnership with us and the local community, thereby promoting positive attitudes: Providing children with an appropriate curriculum that has communication at the forefront and that Enables all children to achieve their potential Raises self-confidence Provides learning experiences that are child-centered, stimulating, challenging, and enjoyable Providing a professional and caring learning environment which: Is calm and welcoming Is safe and secure, and adapted to meet individual needs Promotes equality of opportunity, tolerance, and respect for others Promotes strong teamwork Is energetic and enthusiastic Encouraging continuous improvement for all by: Promoting the sharing of expertise in the community Welcoming the community in shared experiences Promoting a collaborative approach with partner schools and other agencies Cherry Garden School is a Primary School for Pupils with Special Educational Needs, from 2-11 years of age. We aim to provide motivating, challenging, and relevant education to all pupils with a range of disabilities, including Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), and Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC). We respect that many pupils with SLD/PMLD typically experience a diverse range of unique qualities that can present barriers to their learning. Schools such as Cherry Garden must implement a curriculum that pays sufficient attention to addressing these barriers which may inhibit pupils’ access to, and progress within, the National Curriculum. Following the guidance from the White Paper, and with consideration for the Statutory Framework for the EYFS, we have reviewed our school curriculum to create a child-centered curriculum, with a focus on planning and delivering a curriculum that suits every individual child. Aims and Objectives: MOTIVATING RELEVANT CHALLENGING FOCUSED Our child-centered curriculum promotes respect for each child as an individual, emphasizing the four core development areas of Communication, Personal, Physical and Cognitive skills. As far as possible, Individual Education Plan Targets are integrated into these curriculum areas to meet the needs of the individual pupils. At each key stage, the curriculum holds the child at the center of the curriculum, with each child having four core areas of development, which are taught through six Areas of Learning. Each pupil’s four core areas of development should be planned for and developed through these Areas of Learning across the school day, with a teaching approach and content that reflects the age and learning style of the individuals in the group. The Individual Area of Learning Subject Policy will give more information on the provision of these Areas of Learning, however, we aim to deliver a broad and balanced education that is adapted to meet the needs of every pupil, and overcome any barriers to learning using a range of specialist interventions. 10.

Our rich curriculum inspires the curiosity needed to embrace new experiences with the emphasis on the enjoyment of learning. We focus on the skills pupils are learning, rather than the subject. 12.

We are constantly striving to create the right balance of ingredients to maximize the potential of every child. High expectations are set within a nurturing and fun environment where children are motivated.
  16. The Waldorf School of Garden City's curriculum is founded on the work of the Austrian philosopher and educator Rudolf Steiner. They wished to create a form of education that would help students achieve clarity of thought, the sensitivity of feeling, and strength of will. After listening to his lectures, the workers at the Waldorf-Astoria cigarette factory in Stuttgart asked him to form a school for their children, and in 1919 the first Waldorf School was founded. Today, from the bustling urban areas like Sao Paulo to Nepal's villages, there are Steiner Waldorf schools in over 64 countries serving children from birth to eighteen years of age. The Waldorf School of Garden City is accredited by the New York State Association of Independent Schools and the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America (AWSNA). The New York State Education Department recognizes it. Our outstanding and dedicated faculty have led the Waldorf School of Garden City to become a leader in the education field, offering a full education from Early Childhood through High School. Today's world demands future leaders that will be unconstrained by disciplinary boundaries in finding solutions. Our interdisciplinary Main Lesson classes prepare graduates for 21st-century leadership. In its most real sense, education comes not from knowing the right answers but from learning how to ask insightful questions. Classroom discussions are vibrant and engaging. Our faculty are experts in their fields: innovative educators who are willing mentors and lifelong learners. The Waldorf School of Garden City educates children to meet the world with purpose, gratitude, and respect. Our curriculum, inspired by Rudolf Steiner, progresses under child development, awakening students to the experience of knowledge, strengthening their sense of moral responsibility, and empowering them to act with courage and conviction. The School aims to graduate a diverse group of young people distinguished by the scope and acuity of their minds and the depth and integrity of their character. Young children live in their senses. All that they learn comes from their direct and immediate experience of daily life. Through creative exploration—action, and interaction with everything around them—children acquire not only the rudiments of intellectual knowledge but an abiding appreciation for the world they have entered. 25. The Garden is an outstanding school in the London Borough of Hackney offering education for 4-16 year-olds with highly specialized provisions for learners with autism. We believe that every child should be recognized and respected as unique and special. We place each child’s individual needs and goals at the center of our work. It is this ethos that underpins our bespoke child-centered curriculum specially developed to create optimal opportunities to nurture communication, learning, and independence, in a safe and inclusive environment. The Garden school is suitable for robust and mobile children and young people with a diagnosis of Autism who have severe learning difficulties. Admission to the school is through the statutory assessment process whereby The Garden school is named on a child’s education, health, and care (EHC) plan (previously Statement of Special Educational Needs). The welfare of our students and staff is of paramount importance to us. We adhere to safer recruitment procedures, and all staff is given regular training in child protection safeguarding. We have a designated safeguarding children advisor and a deputy. We have good partnerships with parents and relevant outside agencies, including social care. Our pupils develop skills to equip them for safer interactions in the wider world. At a basic level, this includes understanding the difference between private and public and building on this to develop safety in the community. At The Garden, we have a large multi-disciplinary team with specialist skills and expertise who work in collaboration with class teams to support pupils’ development. These include speech and language therapists who support communication occupational therapists who support sensory processing and emotional regulation and educational psychologists, clinical psychologists, and psychiatrists from CAMHS who advise on learning and behavior. Professional development and training of staff is a key component of the success of our school. Our teachers are all trained in specialist, evidence-based approaches to teaching children and young people with autism including TEACCH, SCERTS, PECS, and Intensive Interaction. Each class team is led by a teacher with several dedicated support staff, many of whom are highly qualified and experienced in working with pupils with ASD. At The Garden, we have developed a bespoke curriculum to meet the learning styles of pupils with autism. Students follow a topic-based curriculum, designed to develop the key skills of communication, independence, personal and social skills, emotional regulation, physical development, and life skills. Our framework places the child at the center and ensures that the curriculum’s content and learning experiences are tailored to meet individual needs. Subject areas – known as ‘learning contexts’ – are based on the National Curriculum, and are carefully chosen to provide fun, motivating activities delivered through a multi-sensory teaching approach. The aim is not to fit our pupils into a national curriculum. It is to deliver aspects of the curriculum to meet their specific needs, whilst creating a wider curriculum that focuses on the development of key skills. The Garden provides a stimulating program of visits and activities to promote pupils’ spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development. These activities enhance the curriculum, providing enriching experiences to aid our pupils’ personal development. Pupils take part in on-site activities such as gardening and attend visits to markets, art galleries, museums, and places of religious significance. Furthermore, through our strong relationships with cultural organizations, pupils are regularly visited by dance, drama, and opera groups. The school uses a commercial software package Bsquared to track small steps of pupil progress in national curriculum subject areas and also a national data set CASPA which provides comparative data from similar schools that enables year-on-year benchmark of attainment and progress for individual pupils and groups within the school. Regular progress meetings are held to review each child’s achievements. If a child is not making good progress extra support or different interventions are tried. The school holds multi-disciplinary meetings once a term which includes representatives from the wider professional team eg school doctor and nurse, Speech and Language Therapists, and Educational Psychologists. They can support the teachers in problem-solving to address any difficulties in learning or behavior or provide support for health needs.
