About Me

  1. Robert Blair School and Children’s Centre is nestled in the heart of Islington in the vibrant area of the Caledonian Road between Kings Cross and Angel. We have high expectations of the whole school community in terms of progress and achievement, behavior, and engagement to make our children ready for the next stage of their education, and to prepare them to contribute to British society. We work hard to remove barriers to learning. Creativity has a high priority. It is a process that requires both freedom to experiment and the use of skills, knowledge, and understanding. It is a vehicle to develop self-esteem, confidence, and engagement both with the curriculum and with the ever-changing world that our children are living in. Robert Blair Primary School, an inclusive learning community where: Expectations are high Individuals are nurtured Creativity is valued Our key priority this year is to improve teaching to accelerate progress and raise attainment further by making sure that: Pupils have more regular opportunities to read challenging texts and other materials in subjects other than English Activities in reading lessons are always purposeful and support the ongoing development of the full range of pupils’ reading skills We use a topic-based approach to the delivery of the curriculum linking learning and core skills in a way that will capture the children’s interest. Trips are strongly encouraged. It is expected that every class has a school trip once per half term many have much more than that. We are very well placed to access all the potential that London can offer about museums, galleries, and exhibitions. The school also employs specialist sports coaches and an environmental officer. We follow the national curriculum to provide a broad and balanced curriculum that promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental, and physical development of pupils and prepares them for the opportunities, responsibilities, and experiences of later life. Our themed approach enables whole phase topic enrichment ensuring that key skills in reading, writing, maths science and the arts are taught in a way which motivates and engages the children". The EYFS curriculum is organized into six areas of learning: personal, social, and emotional development communication, language and literacy mathematical development knowledge and understanding of the world physical development, and creative development. At Robert Blair Primary School we have the highest possible expectations for all our children. We aim to provide a happy, caring, and safe environment that stimulates children’s natural curiosity and allows them to develop their skills, knowledge, and understanding. We want children to develop independence, co-operate with others and communicate in a range of situations whilst learning the skills needed to progress through school and future life. Great emphasis and importance are placed on the environment which reflects the EYFS topic each half term and is designed to entice the children to participate in a range of learning activities. We follow the EYFS statutory framework and use ‘Development Matters’ which supports the implementation of the statutory framework by outlining the characteristics of effective learning and how best to promote these in an Early Years setting. Our school embraces the 16 ‘Habits of Mind’ as a way of clarifying educational aspirations and targets for our pupils. They provide a framework and common language for students, to share when discussing and planning for the development of our thinking. Cooking in the Curriculum - Every child has the opportunity to cook at least once a term. Basic Skills - We place a strong emphasis on the development of basic skills – skills that are necessary for lifelong learning. We have ‘non-negotiable’ basic skills that are taught and expected to be applied. Phonics - Children have daily phonics lessons until they are secure in their knowledge. Robert Blair Primary School is committed to meeting the needs of all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). We will do our best to make sure that a pupil with SEND gets the support and provision they need.
  2. As a school, we strive to ensure that every child is happy, safe, and enjoys learning. By working in partnership with the parents and carers in our rich and diverse community, we provide an environment where children can grow and develop into responsible, successful young people who have high aspirations and are confident in their abilities. Our school setting is truly innovative. We make the best use of our recently built facilities which provide us with an outstanding learning environment in Central London. Together, our primary department and children's center share the campus with Richard Cloudesley Special School (Primary Department). We are all based in Golden Lane Campus on Whitecross Street, Islington where we were relocated in 2008. Our Commitment: "We will work together to develop children as individuals who achieve high academic standards, develop their talents and contribute to the world around them as independent thinkers, community builders, and keen ambassadors of Prior Weston. We would like them to be happy and healthy as we are committed to their general well-being". We want Prior Weston Children to: Be resilient and curious learners, who think for themselves and are ready to take their next steps with confidence. Discover and grow their unique talents so they feel valued as rounded individuals and are well equipped for the future. Love learning, excel and build ambitions that match their potential. Be excited by a broad, creative curriculum that makes full use of our location. Achieve educational standards to their maximum academic potential and develop the knowledge and skills to lead them securely and confidently onto the next stage. Build strong friendships and develop a sense of mutual respect, responsibility, inclusion, and community. In Nursery and Reception children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (EYFS). The Early Years Foundation Stage is the stage of education for children from birth to the end of the Reception year. It is based on the recognition that children learn best through play and active learning. The learning environment is key to a child’s progress. A rich and varied environment supports children’s learning and development. It gives them the confidence to explore and learn in secure and safe, yet challenging, indoor and outdoor spaces. The indoor learning environment provides a safe, secure yet challenging space for children to learn. It contains resources that are appropriate, well maintained, and accessible for all children. The outdoor learning environment has a positive impact on children’s sense of well-being and offers opportunities for doing things in different ways and on different scales than when indoors. We support pupils with a wide range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). We actively ensure that all pupils feel welcome and an integral part of our school. Our modern building is fully wheelchair accessible. For children with any additional needs, support is available within the school from the SENCo - Simone De Juan. Implementation of the New Curriculum we have created a system that is aligned to the expectations of the new national curriculum. We will be reporting children’s attainment in terms of their age-related expectations.
  3. New Hall Primary and Children's Centre is located in Sutton Coldfield in the north area of Birmingham Local Authority. We are a two-form entry school in Years 1 to 6, with a one and a half form Reception class. We also have a part-time Nursery class (mornings only) within our Early Years Foundation Stage. The school currently has about 360 pupils on roll from 3 to11 years. This is made up of two Reception (up to 5 years) classes, four Key Stage 1 (5 to 7 years) classes, and eight Key Stage 2 (7 to 11 years) classes. New Hall Children's Centre (0 to 5 years) is integral to the school community and the services we deliver from here help support all families. We are fortunate to have a lovely environment for all to enjoy, with extensive playgrounds, fields, play equipment, and even a swimming pool on-site, which all pupils access. There is a separate dining room for school lunches and a hall. We have a school library, Cyber Café (IT) as well as iPads in every classroom, and roaming laptops that are accessible to all. To make the most of our outside space we have superb outdoor learning areas for EYFS, a Y1 quad, and a Y2 outdoor area. Key Stage 2 has an outdoor Maths Academy. We have a fantastic Forest School also. Our purpose-built facilities provide ample opportunities for families to come and experience all that we have to offer. Our shared core values arose out of what we believe to be important about people, about society, and learning and knowledge. Core values have a range of different dimensions and are particularly related to citizenship issues, spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development of pupils, and learning to learn: Learning as a lifelong process: critical curiosity, making connections, challenge, making meaning. Spirituality: developing self-awareness, awareness of others awareness of the world around us, and for some, awareness of a God. Morality: commitment to living and behaving in certain ways. Social development: co-operation and emotional literacy. Cultural development: empathy and valuing difference. Personal development: self-esteem, self-efficacy, motivation for learning. New Hall Primary and Children’s Centre is committed to meeting the requirements of the primary curriculum introduced in September 2014. New Hall, whilst delivering the statutory content of the National Curriculum, plans a thematic approach to learning and many of the themes change regularly to excite and stimulate the children. Teachers have received training in the key areas of curriculum change and we are equipped to provide outstanding curriculum provision. The curriculum will be taught with the consideration of the needs of all learners. Our curriculum will be exciting and will inspire children to nurture a passion for learning. At New Hall, we emphasize that all children have an entitlement to: Equality of opportunity. A school curriculum that recognizes the individuality and special needs of each child. A school curriculum that involves children in their learning. Religious education and acts of collective worship as required by the Education Reform Act. Personal, Social and Health Education. The staff and governors wish to ensure that through our School Curriculum which reflects the ‘September 2014 National Curriculum’ children will develop and apply learned skills, knowledge, and understanding gained from their homes, our school, and the community. In response to the pupil's voice, New Hall Primary School and Children’s Centre will be providing exciting opportunities for all pupils to develop their creative and social skills across the curriculum. New Hall is a school that is at the very heart of the community that it serves. The Children's Centre allows us to develop fantastic working relationships with all families from the very start of a child's life, and we have a long-standing reputation of supporting the 'whole child as a result. All of our children and families are unique – as a school, we recognize and celebrate this fact in as many ways as we can.

  10. The Children’s Academy Bahrain is an independent school for children with mild to moderate learning difficulties who possess the cognitive skills to benefit from an academic program based on the British National Curriculum. It is affiliated with the prestigious Alpha Plus Group who runs independent schools in England. The Children’s Academy caters to pupils between the ages of 4 and 16 who struggle to achieve expected levels of attainment at school and for whom differentiation or unique pupil grouping in mainstream settings is not enough. Some pupils have specific learning needs associated with dyslexia, dyscalculia, or dyspraxia. Some have speech and language delays or low levels of concentration and self-esteem. The Children’s Academy provides an individualized education within a nurturing learning environment offering high levels of academic and therapeutic support. The school employs a physiotherapist, an occupational therapist, and two speech therapists who are timetabled to work alongside children in the classroom. At the heart of the school’s ethos is the belief that developing a positive self-image is the key to the development of a child’s full potential. To this end, the school is committed to providing an educational environment where all children can experience success. Whether your child is experiencing a temporary difficulty or has more complex needs that will affect him or her for life, The Children’s Academy will try to help. The Children’s Academy Literacy & Numeracy Curriculum is based on that of the British National Curriculum National Literacy & Numeracy Strategies at Foundation Stage and Key Stages 1 – 4. We focus on developing children’s speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills through the National Literacy Strategy framework. This provides a clear and progressive structure through which children develop language and literacy skills. Teaching is structured in three closely interrelated strands of work: word level, sentence level, and text level. Word level work concentrates on phonics, word recognition, vocabulary extension, and handwriting. Sentence level work focuses on grammatical awareness and sentence construction. Text level work develops reading, comprehension and writing skills. Each child is taught at his or her level, using methods suited to his or her ability. We aim to teach children to communicate effectively through the use of speech and written text, in ways appropriate for different occasions and purposes to listen attentively and with understanding to acquire information from various sources and to record information and findings in various ways, and to read fluently and accurately, with understanding and enjoyment. The pupils here are happy and enthusiastic and have a natural love of learning. Our school values are underpinned by the fundamental British values outlined in the National Curriculum 2014. We strongly believe in developing well-rounded, socially aware, and positive members of the community, as well as offering a wide and diverse education. 13. Children’s House is tucked away in a quiet residential area of Motoazabu. The School is truly a “Children’s House” where Montessori materials and furniture are sized for children. Founded and run by passionate Montessori teachers who strive to create a comfortable environment for all children. Our mission is to offer an authentic Montessori education, based on the principles, methods, and activities of Maria Montessori. Maria Montessori was born in Italy in 1870. She was one of the first female physicians. Maria Montessori innovated the Montessori approach to education which is focused on “following the interests of the child.” She believed that everyone learns differently, and at their own pace. The Montessori prepared environment can stimulate the individual interests of children. We currently offer one infant classroom, for children between the age of twelve months to thirty-six months, and one primary Montessori classroom, for children three to six years old. The day starts at 8:30 am and finishes at 3 pm. We also offer After School Care from 3 pm to 5 pm which is available upon request. The last step is to arrange a time for your child to come in and meet their new teacher. This is a great way for your child to get familiar with their new environment!
  14. CIS started in Fredrikstad in 2012 with 90 students from the local community. The leading founder of the school was Lise Evensen Holman. She is an experienced educational leader and a highly respected teacher, with a vision of creating an international school supplying its students with an educational program of the highest quality in which the Arts play a central role. Children’s International School is an IBO-authorised private international school for grades 1 to 10 with an extended Arts program and use of educational technology. CIS seeks to give students an international education that promotes the students to become life-long learners, with a caring attitude, and a respectful approach to different cultures and beliefs. CIS wants to provide the students with a positive work environment that includes an atmosphere of cooperation and mutual respect for other individuals’ values and ideas. CIS believes that by providing our students with a unique opportunity and foundation to develop a knowledge and appreciation of music and the arts we can guide our students to become responsible, respectful, and open-minded citizens within a global community. Care – respect for other people’s ideas and values is fundamental for everything we do. Cooperation – working together for the common good of our community and the world. Change (Learning) – making meaningful change in our students through deep learning experiences, enabling them to make a difference in the world. Our vision and values are a platform on which we build our school community. Our goal is to give our students the best learning environment we are capable of. We do this through the things we believe in a recognized, widely used pedagogy called the International Baccalaureate with its inquiry-based focus and student-centered learning, an extended Arts program with music, dance, and drama, and a technology program giving students the most modern tools to help them in their learning.

Check out our casa, elementary and senior programs to learn more about Avalon. All teaching and support staff at Avalon are committed to creating a pleasant, nurturing, and safe environment, enabling intellectual, social, physical, and artistic learning and development. We believe that staff, students, and parents share equally in the achievement of our goals. A teacher in an authentic Montessori environment will hold a Montessori Teaching diploma. Fully qualified Montessori teachers receive rigorous training in the proper use of the materials and learn about the child's development – emotional, physical, intellectual, moral, and social. Dr. Montessori saw education as a natural process for children. Through careful observation, a Montessori teacher follows the child's interests and needs, providing lessons and guidance when necessary. Our teaching staff adheres to both the letter and the spirit of the pedagogy that governs the Montessori Method of Education and Avalon Children's Montessori School. Our classroom assistants also receive training and certification in the Montessori philosophy of education. Our specialists include a music teacher, French teacher, art teacher, and physical education teacher. Avalon's staff is a dedicated team of people who enjoy working together to ensure success for both the school and every student. Our objective is to guide the children with respect and understanding, developing a love of learning that will last a lifetime. Whenever possible, staff are encouraged to participate in professional development. All teachers and assistants have current first aid and CPR training. The Avalon Staff is headed by School Directors Christine Keery, Sherry Vanderkooi, and Angie Samis, Montessori teachers, who founded the school in 1999. Avalon is proud to be celebrating 20 years in the Beach! We believe in helping others within our community as well as the community at large. Since opening in 2000, community involvement has always been an integral part of the Avalon philosophy, and everyone is encouraged to become involved. These are some of the organizations and initiatives Avalon has supported over the years. Meeting the child's needs is a crucial principle in Montessori education and is something we strive for at Avalon. Choosing the best environment for your child is very important. At Avalon Children's Montessori School, we believe this decision should not be taken lightly by the family or by the school. The Casa Program is for children ages 2 1/2 to 6 years of age. We offer full time and part-time options. The Elementary Program is designed to meet the child's needs during the second stage of development, for children six years and older. Within the Elementary environment, we offer two multi-aged classes – Lower and Upper Elementary. Avalon is the first Montessori school in the Beach to offer a Senior School program. Upon completion at 14 years of age, senior students graduate prepared to meet the expectations of secondary school. They are learning Support Program. Some elementary students in grades 1 through 8, who have been diagnosed with learning disabilities and require additional support in a classroom environment, may be able to use our Learning Support Program. The Learning Support Program provides an opportunity for the student to receive the extra time and attention needed to succeed academically. We are unable to support children requiring one on one support. Space in this program is minimal. Please speak to us for more information. Uniforms are mandatory for all elementary and senior-level students. We believe a uniform instills self-respect, for peers, and the learning environment. A uniform eliminates stereotypes among peers. Extended Care is offered beyond regular school hours. We offer before school care from 8-8:30 am and after school care from 4-5 pm daily. Monthly fees are reasonable and available upon request. We offer a hot catered nutritious lunch for all full-time Casa and Lower Elementary students. As students move up through the elementary and senior programs, there are opportunities for opting out of the mandatory lunch program. Parents are encouraged to provide healthy snacks for the classrooms. Extracurricular activities are offered during and after school hours and provide a rich and diverse learning environment. These activities vary from year to year and depend upon the interests of the students. Over the years, extracurricular activities have included chess club, piano, drama, cross country running, dancing, karate, and homework club. Field trips and classroom visitors are fun ways to explore and learn and allow parents to participate in the school. We utilize many of the resources available within our community and beyond to augment the curriculum. At Avalon, one of the many benefits of a small school setting is the level of communication between the school and the families. It provides a great sense of community and a love of learning for everyone involved. View full school

  20. Professional Children's School is an independent day school enrolling almost 200 students in grades 6-12. Founded in 1914, Professional Children's School provides a challenging and engaging college preparatory program for busy artists, athletes, and other young people who are serious about their studies. Our schedule was flexible, allowing students to balance time in school with professional demands outside. Our community of master educators and devoted peers provides the social and emotional support children need to excel. Since our founding in 1914, PCS has provided an academic education specially designed for talented young people pursuing goals in the performing arts, entertainment, competitive sports, and various other areas of interest, recently including technology and entrepreneurial endeavors. PCS provides all of the necessary academic tools to ensure success in leading colleges, universities, and conservatories and throughout life while enabling students to pursue their individual goals outside of school. Our academic program ensures that our students can focus on both school and their outside interests by incorporating flexible academic schedules, Guided Study while away from school, and an understanding environment of accommodation and planning. PCS is committed to integrating technology throughout the curriculum to prepare students to live and learn in our increasingly technology-based world. This offers an enhanced classroom centered experience while ensuring our students' ability to pursue professional and pre-professional endeavors that may remove them from the physical classroom. The Mission of Professional Children's School is to provide a challenging academic education for young people working in or studying for careers in the performing and visual arts, competitive sports, and other endeavors to meet the diverse needs of our students, provide mastery of fundamental skills and prepare them for college or other post-secondary education to teach young people to balance the demands of their professional, personal and academic lives to provide support for young people who must often contend with the pressures of the adult world in addition to the everyday pressures of adolescence to encourage young people to respect others of diverse ethnic, racial, economic, geographic and artistic backgrounds to balance their individual needs with the needs of others and to accept responsibility for their decisions to foster a community in which both academic and artistic pursuits are valued. PCS is committed to developing a community where all of its members feel safe, supported, and celebrated, and share a shared responsibility to cultivate the same in others. We aim to be a place that embraces diversity in its multiple forms, actively confronts prejudice and bias, and does not shy away from difficult conversations. Given that the journey towards equity and justice is ongoing and evolving, our academic offerings and social interactions remain open to revision. We strive to become responsible world citizens. Suppose you know a busy ballerina, an aspiring actor, an Olympic hopeful, a masterful musician, or a competitive chess champion. In that case, Professional Children's School could be a great school option for them! At Professional Children's School, students don't need to choose between their education and their dreams. Our individualized school schedule provides the flexibility our students need to balance their pre-professional and professional endeavors with their academic goals leaving time for schoolwork and auditions, rehearsals, performances, competitions, classes, and training. This makes Professional Children's School ideal for dancers, musicians, actors, models, athletes, artists, and entrepreneurs who are also serious about their studies. Professional Children's School provides a well-rounded college preparatory education to students in grades 6-12. Working with young people who are pursuing careers or rigorous pre-professional training while attending a college preparatory school requires flexibility on the part of the faculty. With approximately 200 students and 26 faculty members, students and teachers forge close relationships to support students in reaching their academic goals. While the school's mission remains the same, the academic program at PCS has grown ever more rigorous since its founding in 1914. Today, the overwhelming majority of PCS graduates attend college or conservatory immediately upon graduation. The remainder chooses to continue their pre-professional training or professional careers. Especially in the upper school years, professional training and other students' commitments may make demands on students' time and interests. Yet, PCS diploma requirements provide for a broad background in fundamental academic disciplines. Since the school's earliest days, some PCS students have needed to keep up with their studies while away from school for professional reasons through a program called Guided Study. Today, technology makes that process more manageable. PCS is committed to being a school whose program enables students to learn through the online exchange of ideas, content, and instruction. This commitment allows PCS to serve better its mission of educating professional and pre-professional students while preparing them to live and learn in our increasingly connected world.
