Ferryside is a voluntary, controlled, primary, co-educational day school. Built in 1856, it is a traditional grey stone Victorian building situated at the center of the seaside village of Ferryside, which is approximately three miles from the town of Kidwelly and nine miles from Carmarthen. The catchment area roughly covers the parish of St Ishmael’s, including Ferryside, Llansaint, St Ishmael’s, Broadway, and Broadway. Two classes are located in the main building. There are two pre-fabricated buildings at the rear of the school: one is the dining area whilst the other houses two classrooms. Foundation Phase pupils are taught in one classroom. The other is a multi-purpose room being used as a hall and resource area. The After-School Club meets three evenings a week in this room. Our outdoor play and work areas are continually developed, with a grassed area at the front of the school and raised beds for growing flowers and vegetables, which supports our Healthy Eating and Eco projects. In looking for a new school in Sussex they chose Haywards Heath that at the time was a burgeoning new town with good mainline railway connections between London and Brighton. Isabel and Charlotte Moberly took over the School in 1898. Their vision and inspirational leadership ensured that the School grew and prospered through the first half of the 20th century, surviving both the hardships of two world wars and the challenges of the Depression Era. In 1948, after an inspection by the Ministry of Education, Farlington became officially recognized as an Independent School. Partly as a consequence of that recognition, Effie Simpson, then Headmistress, realized that for the School to prosper it needed larger facilities. Farleigh is a wonderful place in which to spend your childhood. Each year we send pupils to leading senior schools via Pre-Assessment, Common Entrance, and 13+ scholarships. We aim high and seek to foster curiosity and real enjoyment of life-long learning. We also educate our pupils for the modern world, equipping them with the soft skills they will need for the future, such as collaboration and teamwork. Examples of how soft skills are woven into the curriculum include group and pair work, class and year group trips, and the Ambassador Programme (in Years 7 and 8). Our multi-sensory/active learning approach encompasses every type of learner: visual, kinaesthetic, and auditory and exciting teaching methods ensure children are encouraged to be active participants, rather than passive listeners. The curriculum is broad and differentiated, tailored to individual needs.
