  1. Founded in 2009, Faraday is a small but growing independent primary school in East London located within the inspirational setting of Trinity Buoy Wharf. Here at Faraday, we offer a traditional approach to primary education with a strong emphasis on the core skills of literacy and numeracy. We believe in a traditional approach, although our lessons reflect modern thinking on how children learn most effectively. Our small classes and quality staff allow for a personal approach to learning. Our vision is to provide first-class education at the lowest sustainable cost This means: Setting high expectations for each child’s individual learning and development. Using a knowledge-based approach in preparing children both for public examinations and for the rest of their life. Providing inspirational teaching by enthusiastic and high-achieving teachers across a wide range of academic subjects and extra-curricular activities. Using a not-for-profit ethos and a model for running schools makes us as affordable as we can be to as many people as possible. Faraday School aims to provide rigorous and effective teaching at low fees, to bring independent schooling within the means of more parents. The Faraday focus is on excellence in the knowledge-based teaching of the core subjects of English and Maths, plus excellence in all other subjects including Science, Languages, History, and Geography. All our children also enjoy Drama, Art, Music, and Sport. In 2014 we launched Core Knowledge, a comprehensive and new knowledge-based curriculum, which has been adapted over several years by the research group Civitas from the US original, devised by ED Hirsch. The new Primary National Curriculum (England, Wales, and Northern Ireland) is inspired by the Hirsch approach. Core Knowledge goes beyond the limits of the National Curriculum, offering children access to additional content that is both challenging and engaging. We want more for our pupils, so we have further tailored Core Knowledge to align with our vision and values. This new curriculum, which starts in Year One, epitomizes all that we believe in. Building upon the key skills and areas of learning we offer children from Reception onwards, we impart to every child a first-class knowledge-based education in the arts and sciences. Our curriculum and teaching methods aim above all at the transmission of knowledge, which we believe is the best way to inspire a child with the thirst for a wider and deeper understanding of the world. It lays the foundations for an expanding grasp of a wide range of subjects later on in education. We believe passionately that our approach ensures that our children's mental horizons are progressively expanded beyond their everyday experience. Residential trips, excursions, and activities within the local community enhance our pupils' educational experience and help them to develop their confidence and independence. An extensive range of after-school clubs is organized each term. The activities range from chess club to art club and from science club to athletics club. All children are provided with an opportunity to experience a range of activities. View full school

  7. Falconbrook is a happy and caring school with a strong sense of community. We enjoy working, learning, and celebrating together. The children at Falconbrook are a delight. The staff team is dedicated and committed to providing our pupils with the best educational opportunities possible. We are an aspirational school and have high expectations for both the education and behavior of all of our pupils. We strive for excellence for all members of our school community. Our vision for Falconbrook School is that every child achieves the best possible outcomes and that ‘no child is left behind. Visitors to Falconbrook School often comment that Falconbrook feels like a friendly and happy school, where the children and the adults get on with each other. We would agree, but Falconbrook is also more than this. We are a school that is determined that our pupils will achieve as well as other pupils do nationally, if not better. The staff team is committed to meeting the high standards that we aspire to achieve for all of our pupils. Our vision for Falconbrook Primary is that it is a school that: Enables every pupil to make good progress and to achieve the best results they are capable of. Enables every pupil to develop the necessary life skills, resilience, and well-being to prepare them for their future. Offers a safe, stimulating environment for teaching and learning, and play, which is organized, staffed, and managed to support our vision of achieving the highest standards. Is a challenging, stimulating, and rewarding place for teachers and other staff to work. Provides full and genuine equality of opportunity for all. Achieves the best possible results, and its value for money spent. Has the full confidence of all parents and carers. At Falconbrook we are fortunate that our pupils, families, and staff come from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds. We are proud of the diversity of our school, and of the role, we play in supporting the development of individuals who will have the tools, skills, and confidence to make a positive contribution to their local communities, and beyond. The Department for Education states that there is a need: “To create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.” At Falconbrook we believe that our school reflects British values in all that we do. We actively promote British values in the following ways: Democracy: Learning the history of the birth of democracy is written into the school’s curriculum. Learning the history of the British Parliament, as well as its purpose and organization is written into the school’s curriculum. Pupils are encouraged to debate topics of interest and express their views. Children take an active role in the setting of school rules and expectations of behavior. For example the creation of the school’s Code of Conduct. School Council members are elected and represent the views of their peers at meetings. Rule of Law: The school has a clear positive behavior management policy which is underpinned by the school Code of Conduct. Children are supported to follow the Code of Conduct, but if poor choices are made, children understand that they will have to take responsibility for their actions and make amends as necessary. Pupils are helped to distinguish between right and wrong, in the classroom, during assemblies, and in the playground. Pupils are encouraged to respect the law and Falconbrook enjoys visits from services such as the Fire and Police service, and Wandsworth Early Intervention Team to help reinforce the message. Individual Liberty: At Falconbrook pupils are encouraged, and given the freedom to make choices in the knowledge that they are doing so in a safe and supportive environment. We develop the self-knowledge, self-esteem, and self-confidence of all of our pupils. Children are supported to know and understand their rights and personal freedoms. They are taught how to exercise these safely, for example through E-Safety lessons. Vulnerable pupils are protected at school, and pastoral support is targeted towards any pupils identified as being ‘at at at risk’. Any form of bullying is dealt with swiftly by both the teaching and support staff. The headteacher follows up on all incidents of identified bullying. Mutual Respect and Tolerance of Those with Different Faiths and Beliefs. Treating everyone with equal respect is the first item on the school Code of Conduct. Pupils understand that respect is shown to everyone, both adults and children. We help children to develop an understanding of and respect for their own and other cultures. The study of all major religions and different cultures is written into the school’s curriculum. Through the RE and PHSE curriculum, pupils are encouraged to discuss and respect differences and similarities between people. View full school

At Faith, we aim to deliver a curriculum that is responsive to children’s needs and values them as individuals. We ensure that our curriculum is broad and balanced and gives our children the skills to narrow the gap and be able to leave us closer to Age Related Expectations. To ensure rapid progress, teaching in Nursery focuses mainly on the prime areas. As children progress into Reception the prime areas are still present in teaching but children also begin to explore the specific areas of learning in greater depth. We want our children to leave Early Years as competent independent learners and therefore our curriculum is heavily influenced by the characteristics of effective learning Playing and Exploring Active Learning and Creativity, and thinking critically. We acknowledge the potential for learning in every activity and situation that arises. We aim to provide a secure and stimulating environment in which children flourish and learn to make sense of the real world. Our activities provide first-hand experiences through play and discussion, children are encouraged to interact with others, to move about, and explore a wide variety of learning situations. There are well-planned areas of provision with a wide range of activities, resources, and materials available. Opportunities are provided for sustained activity and continuous provision, as well as spontaneous, self-chosen activities. Children must experience success, have fun and enjoy themselves whilst learning therefore this is our priority when planning and teaching our curriculum. There are 3 Prime Areas and 4 Specific Areas: Communication and language Physical Development Personal, Social, and Emotional Development Literacy Mathematics Understanding the World Expressive arts and design At Faith Primary School, we have developed our Phonics Programme of Study incorporating the Read Write Inc. scheme to support the teaching of phonics across Early Years and Key Stage One. Phonics sessions take place every day in small focused groups for all Early Years and Key Stage 1 children. Within these daily phonics sessions, children are taught five key skills. Phonics assessment is an ongoing formative assessment by teachers during and after the sessions, and each half term children complete a summative phonics assessment. This is to ensure all children are making progress and to identify any gaps in knowledge. Children who do not reach the national standard at the end of Year 1 are given extra support during Year 2 to help them achieve the national standard at the end of Key Stage 1. View full school

We make every child feel valued and give them the confidence to become active learners.
  11. Fairway School is a community school situated in the North West of the London Borough of Barnet. Although very near to the A1, it is situated in the pleasant surroundings of the Green Belt and borders Mill Hill Golf Course. Fairway Primary school opened in 1952 as a one-form entry co-educational nondenominational school. We joined with Fairway Children’s Centre in 2006 and moved into our new building in February 2011. Northway Special School is also situated in this new building enabling us to share some of each other's facilities Fairway is an establishment where staff and governors are committed to nurturing, inspiring, and challenging all of our children. At Fairway, our children are at the heart of all we do. We aim to instill a love of learning in all our pupils, as well as the confidence to take risks and develop ownership of their learning. We celebrate individuality and diversity in school and deliver a curriculum that promotes empathy, tolerance, and an understanding of each other. Our main aim is a happy, productive learning environment in which no child is prevented from learning by the selfish behavior of another child. It is made clear to children that we expect a high standard of courteous behavior at all times. We have a whole school Behaviour Policy and a set of Golden Rules which children are expected to follow. We have a Happy Book assembly (Yr 1 – Yr 6). Children from these classes are presented with certificates for good behavior, consideration for others, good work, helpfulness, etc. Good behavior is also emphasized by praise and stickers. In the event of a child having a persistent behavior problem, parents/carers are consulted so that we can work on a solution together. We provide a lively, creative curriculum to challenge and motivate our pupils and enable them to participate in a range of high-quality learning opportunities. The school’s excellent facilities enhance the quality of the children’s education but our greatest resource is our skilled and dedicated staff, who work tirelessly to provide the best teaching and learning experiences for every child. We arrange a variety of educational visits throughout the year. The safety of our children is of paramount importance and we plan Educational Visits by our Educational Visits Policy. We are very conscious of the need for effective security at Fairway. The school has security lighting, a sophisticated alarm system, and CCTV. All visitors must report to the front desk to sign the visitors' book and collect a visitors' badge. We recognize that many children at some stage in their education may have a Special Educational Need. We are committed to an inclusive approach. We aim to ensure each child has full access to the Curriculum by adapting our teaching methods and resources to meet the needs of the individual child. The Class Teacher, Inclusion Coordinator, and relevant Support Staff, in consultation with the parents/carers, produce an individual education plan. This is regularly monitored and reviewed termly. We aim to identify any Special Education Need as early as possible and we encourage parents/carers to contact us at an early stage if they feel their child has a particular problem or difficulty. As with all our policies, Fairway Special Education Needs Policy is available for parents/carers to view. At Fairway School we recognize that some children may be particularly able in one or more areas of the Curriculum. The Curriculum is planned so that each child can achieve personal standards of excellence. The work is matched to individual children’s abilities. At Fairway we have excellent relationships with local secondary schools and use these facilities to enhance our curriculum further. As a school, we embrace our pivotal role in the community we serve and acknowledge the importance of contributing to the wider community. The school aims to ensure that our children develop as global citizens so that they can seize and shape the world they live in. We work closely with parents and families to support them in raising children who are ready to meet the demands of a fast-moving world, whilst treasuring the wonder and magic of childhood, helping them to grow – but not too fast! As a school, we constantly reflect on and endeavor to improve our practice and policies, ensuring that we keep up to date with new initiatives. View full school

  13. Fairway Primary Academy is committed to the safeguarding and well-being of all its children and staff. We base our ethos on the principles of Restorative Justice and work to ensure our Academy is a ‘Peaceful Academy.’ We are pleased to be part of the ‘Education Central’ Family of Academies. Fairway Primary Academy has a dedicated team of staff who believe in supporting the development of resilience and reflection. In the Birmingham community, cohesion means working towards a society in which strong and positive relationships exist and continue to be developed in schools, in the workplace, and the wider community. This is achieved through shared values which would include: the valuing of democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, tolerance, and mutual respect of people’s backgrounds and circumstances promoting equal opportunities and challenging discrimination, all of which is based on the Equality Act 2010 and is non-negotiable. ALL children in Birmingham will experience a broad and balanced curriculum enabling them to grow and learn in an environment without prejudice or inequality. It will prepare them for adult life by: Enabling them to play an active role in their school and community. Experiencing a culturally rich and diverse life. Developing and benefitting from a range of positive relationships. The curriculum will: Promote children’s engagement in learning through inquiry-led approaches that develop skills, dispositions, and attitudes to learning. Equip children for their futures in a rapidly changing world recognizing the importance of technology, science, languages, and communication for dialogue and understanding between different groups. Value, celebrate, and build on children’s religious and cultural heritage and develop a sense of identity, honoring the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Promote the fundamental shared values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. Help children develop an understanding of all faiths and none, and participate in the celebration of different religious events in understanding and accepting differences. Develop children holistically: their intellectual, practical, aesthetic, spiritual, social, and emotional capacities. Ensure an understanding of protected characteristics of the Equality Act and how through diversity they can be celebrated. Encourage children to accept responsibility for their behavior, show initiative, and understand how they can contribute positively to the lives of those living and working in the locality in which the school is situated and to society more widely. All children and young people will be allowed to learn the benefits of physically and emotionally healthy lifestyles, by participating in high-quality personal, social, and health education including sex and relationships education. We aim to: Ensure that Ewloe Green is a happy school where children are central to our thoughts and actions, where they feel safe, secure, and confident, and where every child matters, is valued, and successful. Ensure that we strive to achieve the highest possible standards through the best provision of teaching for learning. Ensure that we provide a broad and balanced curriculum, which offers wider opportunities for children to extend their talents, knowledge, skills, and understanding appropriate to the needs of the individual child, both within and outside of school. Ensure that the learning environment is stimulating, challenging, and supportive, where children are encouraged to question and to explore, developing their independence, collaboration, and enjoyment of learning. Ensure that everyone is respectful of others, tolerant of differences in beliefs, cultures, and abilities to nurture confidence, self-esteem, moral values and to prepare children to be model citizens within a multicultural society, aware and supportive of others less fortunate. Ensure that all children have equality of opportunity and access to school life. Ensure that all stakeholders have due regard for their health and well-being and care for the world around them. Ensure that everyone in our school family and visitors too, are welcomed, valued, and are encouraged to work in partnership with the school to support our children.

  25. Welcome to our school. At Evelina, we aim to provide an outstanding personalized education for all pupils, so that they can achieve positive educational outcomes and feel valued, nurtured, and respected during their time with us. We are a thriving school community educating children and young people who are patients of the Evelina London Children’s Hospital. The School was established in 1949 and is proud of our tradition of excellence in educating children who are unable to attend their home schools because of their medical needs. The school has been on several different sites, but now you will find us inside a magnificent light-filled building on the Southbank of the Thames, opposite the Houses of Parliament and surrounded by landmarks such as the London Eye, County Hall, and Archbishop’s Palace. We are a Department for Education hospital community special school, and we are funded through the London Borough of Southwark for 40 planned places. The number of pupils we teach will vary, but on average we teach between 60 and 70 children and young people each week. The vast majority of pupils are in-patients of Evelina London Children’s Hospital, though small numbers may be siblings of patients or regular out-patients. Over the last academic year, we taught 1,500 different pupils, and we have made a positive difference to everyone. Space is divided into Sun classroom for children in the Early Years and Foundation Stage and Key Stages 1 and 2, and Moon classroom for young people in Key Stages 3, 4, or 5. Teaching may be individualized to follow the home school curriculum or pupils may be working on tasks together as a whole class or in smaller groups. Some children are not yet ready to come down to the atrium school, so they are taught at their bedside. These are generally shorter sessions of between 25-45 minutes and are entirely personalized to the needs of the pupil. We work closely with their home schools to ensure that these children are, as far as possible, accessing the work of their peers. Our motto is ‘School, Family, Community and we wholeheartedly believe that working together is the best way for us to support our children and young people in achieving their goals. We work with an amazing range of colleagues, both inside and outside of the hospital, to make sure that we have the information and expertise needed to get the best for our pupils. For pupils who are with us for a longer period, we make good links with home schools to ensure that progress and outcomes are supported consistently. We know that everyone involved in the care and education of our pupils has the shared goal of helping them to thrive and grow, and with that in mind, we work as a team to pool our knowledge and expertise. At Evelina Hospital School we value diversity highly, and all staff, pupils, and families are treated with equal respect and importance. We believe that as a school community we gain from the different abilities, languages, ages, backgrounds, and cultures we have represented and we aim for our pupils to become active, compassionate, and reflective citizens. We understand the strain that children, young people, and their families are under during their time in hospital, and we work to make continuing their education a central part of their recovery process. Pupils are given stimulating and challenging tasks and activities that will build skills that they can transfer to their home schools and beyond. We work flexibly to respond to the changing needs and abilities of our pupils as their health and wellbeing may change. Above all, school is a secure and yet exciting place to be, and we want our pupils to enjoy their educational experiences and become resilient learners. We value training and development highly and are examples of the lifelong learners that we hope our pupils will become. We believe that by developing ourselves we will be better placed to ensure an outstanding educational experience and positive outcomes for the pupils of Evelina Hospital School. Our priority is to motivate pupils to engage in learning either by the bedside, by their dialysis treatment stations, or in the atrium classrooms. Since we have small groups or one-to-one teaching, we are uniquely placed to help children develop social, moral, spiritual, and cultural awareness (known as SMSC). In particular, we have opportunities to allow pupils to express themselves and engage in debate. Click on the link British Values to read our statement. Our school has different learning areas for early years, primary and secondary classes. We also provide teaching and school services in the hospital Dialysis Unit and on the wards. However, we always tailor the curriculum to address the particular needs and interests of the pupils we are teaching so that each child makes excellent progress and has a positive experience in our school.
