We believe that our prime function at Gateacre is to facilitate learning and to provide a broad, balanced, and relevant education for all our students.
The school curriculum gives a balanced and broadly based education that promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental, and physical development of our students and prepares them for the opportunities, responsibilities, and experiences of adult life. Throughout the school, there is a regular assessment, and parents are provided with interim review and a yearly written report. All students are given academic targets and all are encouraged to exceed them.
Numeracy complements literacy and is sometimes called ‘mathematical literacy. Both skills are needed to function fully in modern life. Research shows that people with good literacy skills are more likely to have higher self-esteem, better health, better jobs, and higher wages.
This is because they are more able to take advantage of the opportunities that life may offer them. As part of the Literacy Focus in school, resources will be uploaded here every 2 weeks for pupils to access from home.
The resources will correspond with the school fortnightly focus covered in virtual tutor sessions, so pupils can familiarise themselves with the tasks and work on extending their knowledge. Further resources will be available so pupils can improve their writing skills - targeting specific areas key skills sheets and tasks along with mark sheets can be downloaded and completed in addition to homework set by subject teachers.
To improve literacy across the school we encourage pupils to incorporate the focus in all subjects, therefore we hope you will encourage your child to take advantage of the work provided.
Being in the sixth form can be challenging, but they work with the sixth form will help you to meet your targets within your A-Level subjects. Sixth formers have a study room that only they can use, the aim for this is to give you your study area that provides both privacy and silence to help boost concentration. Within this, you are allowed tea and coffee. Other perks of being in the sixth form include being able to go outside of school for your lunch which is a bonus, as well as having your own space in the atrium. You are treated as responsible young adults and given the freedom of non-contact periods that you are trusted to use wisely.
Individuality is the greatest asset you can possess, we have a great student community where all individuals are accepted regardless of their different backgrounds, and the different departments we have here reflected that. Involving yourself in school life is the best thing you can do, sixth form is tough and it does involve a lot of hard work however having different interests allows you to flourish through school life a lot easier.
