Glade Primary School is a London Borough of Redbridge Community School for boys and girls from the age of three to eleven. There are two classes per year group, except in Year three where we have an additional class. The Nursery has a morning and afternoon class of twenty-six pupils and each session is three hours long. The school is fortunate to have pleasant grounds with a field and a small wooded area with a pond and nature garden. During the past few years, the school’s Governing Body has worked with the local authority to develop the school site. This has included the building of a second hall and two new Reception classes. More recently, the Governors have completed further large projects to improve the quality of provision at Glade. This includes the refurbishment and development of the library, developing a stimulating and exciting Early Years playground, and an extension and refurbishment of the office and lobby. We have recently had a sensory room built, which provides a wonderful experience for all our students. In addition to English, our pupils speak a total of 28 languages with Urdu, Panjabi, Bengali, and Tamil being the most common. Our pupils come from a wide range of ethnic backgrounds and bring with them a rich cultural heritage. The school has a very positive relationship with parents and an active Parent’s Association Working for the School (PAWS). The PAWS works hard to raise funds for the school, organizing a range of fun activities for pupils and parents. Recent fundraising has led to the installation of a climbing frame in the playground, picnic benches on the field, and markings on the playground. We have many whole school events that bring the community together and are enjoyed by all, such as our school fairs and sports days. In addition to this parents/carers are invited to many musical performances and talent shows. Every week we have a Celebrations Assembly for the children to display their work and for the school to share whole school themes. Our school choir, football, netball, and swim team participate in several events and represent the school with pride. We have links with Redbridge Music and Drama services. This also enhances pupil provision and learning. This year we have been privileged to work with the London Symphony Orchestra. The ethos of the school is welcoming and governors, staff, and parents work closely together to create a harmonious environment for our community. We run a caring, friendly school where the staff makes every effort to ensure our pupils develop both academically and socially in a stimulating, exciting, and purposeful environment. We aim to make sure every child who passes through our school's doors will develop the knowledge, values, and skills to get the most out of their time in our school and afterward. Gilwern school was established in 1879 and has been on our current site since 1973. We have over 150 pupils on the roll ranging in age from four to 11 years old. The Hopscotch Nursery is also located within its separate grounds on the school site. The school has extensive grounds including rugby/football pitches, netball courts, and activity areas for the children. Our catchment area includes Gilwern itself and rural outlying areas. Since 2006 the areas formerly served by the Darenfelen and Clydach primaries have been included in our catchment. Pupils from outlying areas within the catchment area provided with bus transport to school. Prospective pupils are invited to attend our annual sports day and to a puppet show to give them a flavor of the school and we ensure that children are introduced to school life gradually. At the end of their primary education pupils transfer to either King Henry VIII Comprehensive School in Abergavenny, Crickhowell High School, or Brynmawr Comprehensive – all of which we maintain close links with the ensure a smooth transition process for each child. Gilwern Primary School is participating in the Eco-Schools Programme which encourages pupils to engage with environmental and sustainable development issues. It provides a highly structured system for the environmental management of schools. We are very proud of the work we do at Gifford. We are rated as Outstanding and we have been in the national top 100 primary schools for pupil progress for the last 2 years, with major achievements in sports, music and many other areas. We are a National Support School, which is accredited in supporting other schools locally and nationally. Gifford Primary School is a Community school for 3-11 year old's providing a caring, secure, and intellectually challenging environment in which our pupils feel valued and can learn successfully. We also have a specialist provision in our school for Deaf children. The school is named after Sir John Gifford who was a local landowner and owned the land on which the school is built, a copy of his last will and testimony is kept at Northolt Village church. The first school building was built in the late 1940s, to be used as a hospital during the war as we are close to the Northolt RAF base. It was never used as a hospital but established as a school in the early 1950s. If the old school had been used as a hospital, the classrooms would have been the wards, and the offices, staff room, and kitchen areas would have been the operating theatres. There were two separate schools – Gifford Infant School and Gifford Junior School, but you could walk through from one to the other without going outside. The first Head Teachers at the school were Mrs. Mansfield for the Infants and Mr. Maguire for the Juniors. Miss Williams and Mr. Robinson were subsequent Head Teachers for the Juniors. Mr. Maguire has since passed away, however, the school planted a tree in memory of him on the school grounds which can still be seen on the pathway at the rear of the school field that lead to Northala Park. Ms. Crookes was the Headteacher for 18 years before she left in December 2008. Georgetown Primary School was opened in May 1989 and is situated in the southern area of Tredegar town. It replaced the old school building which had served the community of Georgetown since 1877. It was constructed in two stories with seven classrooms, a computer room, an After School Club room, and a large multi-purpose hall used for P.E., school meals, assemblies, school concerts. Since the building of the premises on the main site, a steady expansion of pupil numbers resulted in the need for a new Key Stage 2 block of eight classrooms being built on the lower site replacing the demountable classrooms. The nursery opened in September 2003. Our school caters to pupils aged 3-11years old. The nursery provision caters to 80 pupils (40 Full-Time Equivalent), thus is organized into a.m. and p.m. groups. A 420 place primary provision caters for pupils between 4-11 and they are organized into 14 classes (6 Foundation Phase and 8 Key Stage 2). We are committed to providing the experiences and opportunities to all pupils and give them skills essential for life-long learning. We ask parents/guardians to support their child’s learning and establish positive relationships with the school. If a parent needs to discuss any issue, they are encouraged to contact the school at their earliest convenience. We are developing an engaging and challenging curriculum that will drive the progress of every single child through reading, Write, Inc Phonics for teaching reading, an outstanding Guided Reading program called Destination Reader, Singapore inspired Maths program called Inspire Maths and Philosophy 4 Children. We highly prize the creative arts, with instrumental music tuition of guitar, recorder, and trumpet taught in KS2 as well as a music teacher working across the school. We value modern foreign languages with French taught from Reception to Year 6. We are high achievers when it comes to Sport and our children are given many opportunities to succeed in a range of sports and dance delivered by two sports coaches who passionately believe in all children accessing and enjoying an active day at George Tomlinson. Every class from Year 1 to 6 also completes the Daily Mile. We are passionate about becoming a Healthy School and one where pupil's voice is prominent so that children have a say in their education. Pupil-led assemblies, school councils, and community workgroups will all enable the empowerment of our pupils and higher engagement in their learning. We believe in the importance of children’s well-being and happiness as much as their academic successes and we work on our Growth mindset across the school as well as delivering Mindfulness lessons. We are lucky enough to have our science garden on-site with a mini beast motel, a pond, and beds for growing our vegetables! George Mitchell School is a popular and successful All-through school educating children across three phases: Early Years, Primary and Secondary. We have almost 1000 children from nursery age to Year 11. Being an all-through school gives us great opportunities to tailor our curriculum and provision to the needs of every child and we are continuously looking at ways to stretch and challenge our students. Our school serves a richly diverse area, with many ethnic groups and languages represented. The quality of teaching in our school is continuously improving and our GCSE exam results and end of KS2 results are getting better and better. Performance league tables for GCSE results put us year on year in fifth place in our group of 55 similar schools. Our students make exceptional progress no matter what their starting points may be and this is evidenced by our Progress 8 score of 0.64 which puts us significantly above the National Average.
