- The children, staff, and governors are extremely proud of our school. Our distinctive features include a strong inclusive ethos where children are kept at the heart of all we do. Our ‘Thinking School’ status and child-centered approach to teaching and learning encourage and support children to become enthusiastic, positive, and resilient learners. We have a clear focus on raising standards in all aspects of the curriculum by inspiring children in their learning whilst also ensuring children develop the personal and social skills they need to be successful in life. We have an excellent team of outstanding, experienced staff who are fully committed to working in partnership with families and the local community to ensure that every child in the school is happy, secure, and achieves success in both their learning and personal achievements. We believe the full partnership with all members of our community is the best way to ensure success for our children and therefore encourage others to engage in school life. For parents, there is a range of opportunities for you to get involved in including parent workshops, membership of the PTA, attending performances, volunteering in school, and accompanying classes on school trips. We have already developed close links with many members of the local community but always welcome more. Under most circumstances, applications can only be processed once a child is living locally and places will only be allocated to children who can start immediately. If you are planning a move, even if you have a new tenancy agreement or have exchanged contracts, we cannot accept the application until after the move has taken place and your child has moved in. Children whose parents are in Armed Forces or who are Crown Servants are an exception to this and should provide evidence when making the application. Introduced in 2011, the pupil premium is a sum of money given to schools each year by the Government to improve the attainment of disadvantaged children. This is based on research showing that children from low-income families perform less well at school than their peers. Often, children who are entitled to pupil premium face challenges such as poor language and communication skills, less family support, lack of confidence, and issues with attendance and punctuality. There is no obligation for schools to consult with parents about how they use the money they claim for each child. However, schools do have to show that they are using their pupil premium fund appropriately. This is measured through Ofsted inspections and annual performance tables showing the progress made by children who are eligible for pupil premium. The PE and sport premium is designed to help primary schools improve the quality of the PE and sports activities they offer their pupils. Schools receive PE and sport premium funding based on the number of pupils in years 1 to 6 and must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport they offer. Hillcross is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff, volunteers, and visitors to share this commitment. This means that we have a Child Protection Policy and supporting procedures in place. All staff (including supply staff, volunteers, and governors) must ensure that they are aware of these procedures. Parents and carers are welcome to read the policy on request. Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with his/her parents or carers first unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child’s welfare. Our children are supported and challenged to become caring, collaborative, critical, and creative learners who can adapt to meet their future life goals with confidence and success. We have a clear focus on ensuring all children experience success in all aspects of the curriculum by inspiring them in their learning and ensuring they develop the personal and social skills they need to be successful in the 21st century. We know that children learn more effectively if they feel valued, happy and secure. We aim to ensure that our children are respected as individuals and feel good about themselves so that they can achieve their very best within a safe, caring, and supportive environment. In line with our mission statement, ‘Educating Our Children Together’, we have an excellent team of outstanding, experienced staff who are fully committed to working in partnership with families and the local community to ensure that every child in the school benefits from an environment where all children achieve success in both their learning and personal achievements. As a nationally recognized Thinking School, we help children to develop a range of thinking processes that they can use to support their independent learning and problem-solving. Children are given opportunities to reflect and develop knowledge about themselves and others, both in school and in the wider community. View full school

- At Hillcrest, we provide each student with the opportunity to achieve their full potential in both academic and social terms. We have very high expectations of our students. Great emphasis is placed on self-discipline and self-respect hard work and achievement and high standards of behavior. We have a highly qualified team of staff committed to delivering quality education to all our students. Your child will enter a safe and secure environment in which high-quality learning can take place effectively. We are proud to play our part in helping students become the thoughtful, caring, confident, and well-educated young adults of tomorrow. Hillcrest School and Sixth Form Centre is a safe and respectful learning environment where every child is valued as an individual with unique talents and ambitions. We: Are an outward-looking and confident community, actively promoting the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect, and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. Are a happy, responsible, and fair school respected by the community? Improve our environment to meet the educational demands of the twenty-first century. Raise expectations and achievement for all. Prepare everyone for the challenges of modern Britain and a changing world and develop a passion for life-long learning. We believe our school is an ideal size since it is large enough to provide a full range of subjects and to enable us to employ specialist teachers, but not so large that the individual becomes lost in the crowd. Hillcrest is committed to ensuring all members of our learning community have equal opportunities to achieve their potential. At Hillcrest, we deliver a curriculum that works to develop effective, independent learners to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world. To achieve this staff use a “ten-point outstanding lesson checklist” to plan their lessons, ensuring all lessons enable rapid and sustained progress. The school also has a range of support and administrative staff who work with both students and teachers daily. The Hillcrest School curriculum meets the specifications of both the National Curriculum programs of study and also the Birmingham Curriculum Statement. View full school

- Hillbrook Primary School is a large, happy, safe, and successful place of learning in the heart of Tooting. We want to build a long and rewarding relationship with you and believe this will happen best when we work in genuine partnership with you and the wider community. We aim to give your child every opportunity to achieve the highest possible standards in everything they do. We are committed to offering an exciting and creative curriculum with a wealth of different experiences and opportunities to learn and flourish. We encourage a 'can-do' attitude to everything with clear aims and a shared vision for future improvement. We aim for the children at Hillbrook Primary School to become confident, lifelong learners and believe that we can do this successfully if we work together and have a positive partnership between home and school. We place a strong emphasis on the individual child and encourage our children to make the most of each opportunity, to gain the best from their education. We work with the children to help them prepare for the ever-changing world in which we live and to develop their skills to sustain life-long learning as well as strong self-belief. At Hillbrook our ethos is based on our 3Rs: Be Responsible – both collectively and individually Be Resilient Be Reflective We encourage our children to accept responsibility for their actions and the impact they have on others within the school and the wider community. We believe it is important to help children understand the role they play in their learning and how they can help themselves to progress. We understand that it will not always be easy for our children to succeed and we help them to understand that by picking themselves up and trying again, they will reach their goals. We believe these values to be fundamental skills that will not only help our children succeed at school but in all areas of life. The Department for Education expects all schools to promote British Values. These are stated as: Democracy The rule of law Individual liberty Mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. At Hillbrook we promote these values in a wide range of ways. Democracy: Every year, we elect school councilors to represent each class in our school council. We learn about democracy through a fair voting system which we use in lots of different class decisions. We have had visits from MPs who taught us about Parliament and how laws are made in our country. This year, the school council is organizing a campaign to get our bins back! We have been out and about on Hillbrook Road to speak to our neighbors and are in contact with the Wandsworth council to make a positive impact in our community. The Rule of Law: The importance of laws, whether they be those that govern the class, the school, or the country, are consistently reinforced at Hillbrook. Pupils are taught from an early age the rules of the school. These are our Three Rs, Playground Rules and Safety Rules. Pupils are taught the value and reasons behind rules and laws, that they govern and protect us, the responsibilities that this involves, and the consequences when laws are broken. Visits from external authorities such as the Police and Fire Service help to reinforce this message. Individual Liberty: At Hillbrook, pupils are actively encouraged to make choices, knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment. As a school, we educate and provide boundaries for young pupils to make informed choices, through a safe environment and an empowering education. Pupils are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms and advised how to exercise these safely, for example through E-Safety. Mutual Respect and Tolerance of those of Different Faiths and Beliefs: We are lucky to be in such a diverse community in Hillbrook. Respect is one of our very important 3R rules and we show this to adults, other children, and ourselves. In class, we celebrate our differences and learn from each other’s experiences by exploring different faiths and backgrounds. We also actively promote diversity through our celebrations of different faiths and cultures. Religious Education lessons reinforce messages of tolerance and respect for others. Members of different faiths and religions are encouraged to share their knowledge to enhance learning within classes and the school. The children visit places of worship that are important to different faiths. Learning and achievement drive everything we do at Hillbrook Primary School. Our role, in partnership with parents and carers, is to build the foundations for a successful education, to enable each child to discover the joy of learning, to help them to fulfill every aspect of their potential, and to encourage their growth into effective citizens, ready to play their part in the world and their community. We want all our children to experience success and enjoy their learning when at school. We aim to achieve this through high standards of teaching within a happy, structured, and caring environment. While following the National Curriculum, we ensure our children enjoy their learning by encouraging creativity and links across curriculum areas wherever possible. Through a rich and engaging curriculum, we motivate our learners to accumulate skills for life: children are encouraged to learn through inquiry and curiosity, drawing on real-life experiences to develop their skills as well as their knowledge. Although the pages on our website will give you an insight into learning at Hillbrook Primary, we believe the best way to get a real taste of learning is by joining the learning journey your children are taking. If you would like to find out more about the way different subjects are approached and taught, please do not hesitate to speak to your child’s class teacher or come and visit us. We also run several parent workshops on a range of topics throughout the year, which you are welcome to join. View full school

- Hill West is a vibrant school where children love to learn. Our school is truly inclusive and every opportunity is taken to teach pupils how to value and respect each other and develop a positive self-image and the belief that with hard work, determination and commitment anything can be achieved. At Hill West Primary School Our mission here is to ensure that learning is fun and all children succeed. To do this we have focused on ensuring our curriculum, underpinned by the national curriculum, is exciting and challenging. Building a curriculum that is relevant and enjoyable for all of our pupils has been an exciting journey. It has meant that our pupils enjoy their lessons and make exceptionally good progress. Our end of Key Stage results are well above National Average and children leave Hill West very well prepared for the opportunities and challenges they will face in secondary school. We have very high expectations for all of our pupils irrespective of their starting points, recognizing that they will be entering a highly competitive global marketplace in unprecedented times. Our staff is dedicated and hard-working, committed to an ethos of ongoing professional learning. We understand that an excellent school needs excellent staff. We are innovative and creative and embraced the opportunity to form a learning partnership through academy status with other schools. Our multi-academy trust (also known as the Arthur Terry Learning Partnership) is a respected multi-academy trust of four primary schools, three secondary schools, five children's centers, and one teaching school, based in the West Midlands Coleshill, Erdington, and Four Oaks. We work together to ensure excellence. We all share a similar philosophy of education which puts the child at the heart of everything we do thereby ensuring that our children are better placed to meet the changing demands of the 21st Century. The Arthur Terry Learning Partnership’s academies are home to 4,500 children and more than 700 staff, including outstanding headteachers, specialists, and national leaders. The partnership has a strong moral purpose to improve education standards and achievements for all children in the community. By working in partnership, the ATLP can share resources, expertise and deliver quality education to make an even greater difference where it matters most. We are a happy school at the heart of our community. Our children love to learn. They make excellent progress and attainment is well above the national average and has been for several years. Teaching is creative and lively and a robust program of continued professional development ensures that staff is always developing professionally. Leadership at all levels is ambitious and focused on continual improvement. Children have a real thirst for knowledge and want to learn. We understand that children's well-being and excellent physical and mental health are essential if they are going to succeed academically. Our School Aims: Promote the awareness that each child is unique celebrating our similarities and differences. We are an inclusive school and work hard to ensure our pupils feel valued and respect others, regardless of background or beliefs. We regularly talk about and explore these issues through our work in RE, SMSC, and discussion about British Values. Develop challenging experiences and activities to foster individual self-esteem and confidence. A child's self-esteem affects their friendships with other children, their success in school, their ability to deal with problems, and their overall confidence, so we work hard to provide learning experiences that help children to develop resilience and self-belief. Develop in each child a real love of learning. When they are busy having fun, learning becomes natural and easy. Studies have shown that children learn best when the learning comes from a side-effect of a fun activity, and nearly all of our pupils say that they have to work hard but learning is fun. Provide a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum that shows progress and continuity from EYFS to the end of Key Stage Two so that each child meets their full learning potential. We are proud of our innovative curriculum, and we are passionate about making learning enjoyable and relevant. At Hill West Primary School we are dedicated to the whole child and as such we: Develop and foster strong home-school relationships. We believe that developing excellent relationships between home and school as early as possible is vital to ensure each child reaches their full potential. We respond to parents quickly and make time for informal catch-ups about your child's needs and progress as well as scheduled Parent Consultations each term. Develop stimulating and inclusive learning environments. Our teachers know their learners they provide learning environments where it is safe to speak out, yet challenging enough to encourage new ways to look at, think about, and use skills. We work hard to enable all our pupils to become responsible citizens so they can make a positive contribution to society. We do this by explicitly promoting a set of core values which we share and celebrate. View full school

Every pupil has a statement of Special Educational Needs. At Highshore School we enable our pupils to gain the skills, confidence, and opportunities needed to progress to employment, meaningful voluntary opportunities, and training. Our pupils tell us that they want to contribute to society. We are a central London school and expect our pupils to be active citizens. High score has three aims for its pupils: To be able to communicate as fully as possible To develop as many self-help skills as possible To become independent and included as fully as possible in society Our pupils have a range of needs, including: Complex medical needs Downs Syndrome Autistic Spectrum Disorder Speech, Language and Communication difficulties ADHD Physical disabilities Highshore offers the full range of national curriculum subjects throughout the school with an emphasis on developing skills in literacy, numeracy, and personal and social development. The school offers personalized programs of study specifically aimed at meeting the individual’s learning needs. Students with dyslexia and speech and language delay are offered specialized support. In Key Stage 3 all our pupils start the day with literacy and numeracy. They stay with their form tutors which enables them to feel settled in their form room. After break pupils study other subjects taught. We teach the national curriculum subjects to differentiate according to the needs of our pupils. In Key Stage 3, we teach additional subjects such as social communication and lego therapy. Health and wellbeing are important to us. In addition to their PE lesson, all pupils in Key Stage 3 have a weekly swimming lesson. Class groups are usually no larger than eight pupils. In addition to the normal curriculum, we have four curriculum theme days each year where we address subjects such as business, careers, and citizenship education. Pupils in Key Stage 4 work towards a variety of accreditation and continue with national curriculum subjects. The Arts are a great strength of our school. Pupils have the opportunity to study either GCSE Art, Arts Award, or Entry-level Art. New subjects are introduced in Key Stage 4 such as enterprise education which prepares the pupils for their enterprise day in the Sixth Form. In the 6th form, we aim to help students to develop academically, personally and socially, in preparation for a challenging and changing world. We focus on students being able to apply their communication and life skills in school, at home, and in the community to enable them to achieve as much independence as possible. We have created an exciting and dynamic curriculum that provides our students aged 16 – 19 with opportunities to develop their skills and knowledge through a core curriculum of work-related learning, enterprise education, and a college link course. Students are placed in tutor groups and are taught in these groups on the days when they are in school. Work experience and college link placements are personalized and students may work alongside other 6th form students not in their tutor group. This structure provides 6th form students with the opportunity to develop social relationships mix with a wider number of students. 6th form students can attend a 1-day link course at Lambeth College in preparation for a college placement when they leave Highshore School. We currently access courses in painting & decorating, bricklaying & carpentry at the Vauxhall site, and students who attend the Clapham site study retail and office skills. For students who require more support to achieve independence with their daily living skills, we offer opportunities to develop basic cooking skills through the weekly ‘Lunch club’ where students cook their snack lunches, regular travel training & shopping sessions, and home maintenance skills in the PDC. We use a variety of communication methods to ensure that all students can contribute to the creation of their Education Health Care plan, which is an important part of planning for a successful transition from Highshore School. We work with local colleges and social care providers to plan for successful student transition at 19. View full school
- Welcome to Highshore School. High score is a complex mixed needs special secondary (age range 11 – 19) school situated in Camberwell, in the London Borough of Southwark. We have 136 pupils on roll. - Welcome to Highgate School. A few prospectus-style words to sum up our aims for our pupils: we want Highgate to be a happy, cohesive community where pupils enjoy life to the full, value their friendships, and achieve balance in their lives. We want them to leave us for places at academically demanding, selecting universities, here or abroad, with the ambition, motivation, skills, and staying-power to study independently and make a success of their studies. We want them to be emotionally and intellectually ready for the world of work: creative problem-solvers rigorous and imaginative thinkers balanced risk-takers team-players and leaders. We want them to enjoy childhood to the full and to have developed and pursued passions, both academic and extra-curricular. We want them to have grown as individuals, conscious of the advantages they have enjoyed and of the opportunities and obligations such advantage brings. We want them to be open-minded and able to challenge prejudice wherever they encounter it. We want them to carry on their learning away from Highgate and regardless of exams. We want them to be successful and employable, but not at the cost of happiness and balance. Since 1565, Highgate School and the London around it have seen many changes. One aspect of the School, however, has always remained constant: we are a charity, and every generation of Cholmeleians has been committed to living up to what that means, to strengthening and building on our charitable foundations. One priority is to ensure that able children who are not Highgate pupils can have stimulating teaching in the rigorous academic subjects that are ultimately required by top universities and employers. Provide a total of seventy-eight pupils across the school with full-fee BURSARIES, most of whom will join us at age eleven, so that children for whom Highgate is the right school can join us, even if financially it would not otherwise be possible for their parents or carers to consider us. Through our links with local primary schools and our carefully targeted communications, we are reaching out to children and their families to make it possible for them to have the life-changing education that will meet their intellectual needs and unlock for them the doors to lifelong opportunities. The academic curriculum at Highgate forms the very core of what the school is about. Of course, we place great value on our co-curricular activities and we are very proud of our pastoral care, but our chief aim is to encourage each pupil to maximize his or her personal and academic potential at every level. Highgate boasts a rich collection of co-curricular offerings. Whether a pupil is interested in playing an instrument or singing in a choir, performing in a drama production, playing a sport, or joining a society or club, there is something for everyone. Each pupil is placed on arrival in Year 9 in one of the twelve Houses. The House is the social and pastoral group within which each will remain throughout their time at Highgate. The house system establishes a basis for lasting friendship and each house has its own distinct identity forged in a varied program of friendly inter-house activities and competitions. Pupils in Year 7 and 8 are placed into a Form Group of around 20-22 pupils under the care of a Form Tutor. Pupils are encouraged to take part in inter-form competitions and activities and to contribute to the weekly assembly and tutorial program. The pastoral care of the pupils and the work of the Form Tutors are overseen by the Head of Lower School, who is supported by a Head of Year 7 and a Head of Year 8. The pastoral teams in Years 7 & 8 aim to ensure that all pupils enjoy a successful transition from the world of primary education to the environment and opportunities of secondary school. - Highgate Primary is a happy and successful two-form entry community school where there is great enthusiasm for learning from pupils and a highly committed and experienced staff team. Adults are referred to by their first name and we have a no-uniform policy. Music, art and whole-school performances, Mandarin, philosophy, and sport are all highly valued and give our children many opportunities to shine. Our curriculum reflects our children’s interests and enables all pupils to achieve standards of which we are extremely proud. At Highgate Primary children succeed because: We are ambitious for every child. We know that consistently great teaching leads to outstanding achievement We know that strong pastoral support can make all the difference. We know that children learn best through positive messages. We are there for our community from birth to secondary. We listen to what children say and allow them to dream. We have also been working with a local artist to produce a set of images that exemplify these statements. We care for our school buildings and grounds. We want to become the best primary school in the world. Our Values: Love learning - We want everyone to enjoy learning and to achieve their best. Inclusive - We want everyone who uses our school to feel involved and included. Supportive - We want everyone involved with our school to feel supported. Green - We want our school to look and be a greener place. Healthy - We want our school to be a healthy place for our minds and our bodies. We aim for all our children to move through school with confidence, good friendships, and happy memories. In the summer term, the school worked closely with Education Consultant to establish a vision for the school for the next five years. This piece of work soon became known as Highgate Primary 2020 Vision. We have also been working with local artist Brigitte Herrod to produce a set of images that exemplify these statements. At Highgate Primary School, we foster a love of learning by delivering an innovative curriculum rich in creativity and academic rigor. From Nursery to Year 6, cross-curricular topics have been created that cover the National Curriculum subjects in a relevant and engaging way. Topics reflect the interest and enjoyment of our children, whilst at the same time providing a high degree of challenge. Our topics have also been created to make full use of the local area. Other recent topics have included Flight, Explorers and Adventurers, and The Circus. We aim to develop all of the children’s unique skills and talents and provide opportunities for everyone to shine. We understand that children learn in different ways and all sorts of environments, so we aim to be learning outside the classroom and outdoors as much as possible. It could be storytelling in the Peace Garden, tree climbing and bug hunting in Highgate Wood, or a trip to the National Gallery. Thinking skills are at the heart of our curriculum. We have recently introduced philosophy sessions in which the class is presented with a different thought-provoking stimulus to encourage discussion. The stimulus could be a book, an object, or an animation. The children are encouraged to think, listen, reflect, express what they think, and respect each other’s opinions. In Reception class, we aim to make sure that children feel settled, confident, and happy coming to school. We also strive to build supportive and positive relationships with children’s families. The Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum emphasizes the development of the whole child and it is through strong relationships between home and school that we support the holistic development of the children in our class. PSHE is perhaps the most important part of our curriculum as we support children to acquire the knowledge, understanding, and skills they need to manage their lives, now and in the future. As part of a whole-school approach, PSHE education develops the qualities and attributes children need to thrive as individuals, family members, and members of society. The benefits to pupils of such an approach are numerous as PSHE prepares them to manage many of the most critical opportunities, challenges, and responsibilities they will face growing up in such rapidly changing and challenging times. It also helps them to connect and apply the knowledge and understanding they learn in all subjects to practical, real-life situations while helping them to feel safe and secure enough to fulfill their academic potential. The promotion of pupils’ personal and social development underpins other learning. PSHE education contributes to personal development by helping children and young people to build their identities, confidence, and self-esteem and understand what influences their decisions. Developing self-understanding, empathy, and the ability to work with others helps our pupils to enjoy healthy and productive relationships in all aspects of their lives. Within school, pupils are actively encouraged to make choices, knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment. As a school, we educate and provide boundaries for young pupils to make choices safely, through the provision of a safe environment and empowering education. View full school

- Highfield Primary School is a co-educational day school for children aged from 5-11 years. It also has its own 60 place Nursery. It is situated in the center of the London Borough of Hillingdon, in the village of Hillingdon, to the south of Western Avenue and close to the Uxbridge Road. The School was opened in 1969 and has undergone major building works to accommodate the growing number of children wishing to join Highfield Primary School. The school is set within extensive grounds which creates many opportunities to take learning outside of the classroom and also giving the children space to have fun and play during break times. Highfield is a small caring school providing a warm and secure atmosphere in which each child fulfills his or her real potential. We prepare pupils for a life in which they will play an active role in their own family, in their secondary education, and within the local community. The curriculum we offer is broad and challenging. Every effort is made to make sure that children work at the level, which is appropriate to their ability. We value the partnership with our parents to achieve the high standards we all expect. Through termly open evenings, we offer the opportunity for parents to discuss their child’s progress with the class teacher. As a primary school, with teachers liaising closely, we work to ensure that children transfer from nursery to infants, and from infants to juniors with confidence and ease. At Highfield Primary School we believe that everyone has a right to equal opportunities. We believe that all children, adults, and families should feel welcome and should have an equal chance to benefit from our school and everything it provides. Highfield Primary is an ambitious school that strives for the highest standards of teaching, learning, and behavior in an environment where all children and staff are valued as individuals and their efforts respected and celebrated. Our children have positive attitudes to learning, high standards of behavior, and good attainment across the curriculum. The school has supportive parents, carers, governors, and inspiring, dedicated teachers. Pupils are provided with a stimulating range of academic challenges and opportunities throughout their time at Highfield. At Highfield Primary School the curriculum has been created to engage children in their learning, whether academic, social, sporting, or being creative. It is one of the tools put in place to fulfill our school aims, ensuring that children are equipped with the skills, knowledge, and attitudes that will help them to succeed in life. Each child is treated as an individual and our strong pastoral support from the outset creates an atmosphere of security and cooperation. Relationships between staff and children are based on mutual trust and respect. This is a friendly school – it is important to us that your child should feel safe, valued, and happy.
- We are a school that focuses on and celebrates academic achievement whilst also developing the whole child. We provide broad and balanced learning experiences to excite and engage our children. We are a happy, friendly school that builds confidence and independence. The children at Highfield achieve high standards in English, maths, and science but also excel in the arts, music, and sport. Our inspiring curriculum is engaging and inclusive and develops the key skills needed so that our children are ready to move on to the next stage of their education. We work closely within our community and are a school at the heart of Shortlands. Our core values reflect the way we work and respond to each other. These are respect, creativity, honesty, responsibility, determination, and appreciation. The Highfield Schools are delighted to be part of the Nexus Education School Trust (NEST), and although we work very closely with them, the governance of our schools is carried out by the Local Committee working across both Highfield Schools. The role of the Local Committee is to provide strategic leadership and to fulfill our statutory obligations. Our key responsibilities are: Setting the aims and objectives for the schools Setting the policies for achieving those aims and objectives Monitoring and evaluating the progress made towards achieving these aims and objectives Being a source of challenge and support to the Headteacher and Leadership Team. The International Primary Curriculum (IPC) combines all the subjects of the National Curriculum in a thematic and creative curriculum. It has a clear process of learning and specific learning goals for every subject, including international mindedness and personal learning targets. The IPC has been designed to ensure rigorous learning but also to help teachers make learning exciting, active, and meaningful. The IPC takes a global approach helping children to connect their learning to where they are living now as well as looking at the perspective of other people in different countries. Whilst there are many benefits to Children using technologies such as the Internet and mobile phones, please remain very aware that there are risks. Children need to learn ways they can take care of their safety and security, but they are still very young so great vigilance is required. It is imperative that as a parent/carer any child’s usage of the Internet and, if they have them, mobile phones are closely monitored. At Highfield, we aim to develop skills and attitudes that will help the children function as positively and as safely as possible using technology. Below are some useful documents and website links to help further with this, this includes setting up and enabling online parental settings. We enjoy a high level of commitment and enthusiasm from staff, children, parents, and governors which creates a friendly and purposeful atmosphere. We place importance on achieving the highest possible standards for our children, not just in the academic field but also in the wider curriculum. We are proud of our successes and of the enrichment opportunities that we offer to children at lunchtimes, before and after school. These take many forms such as individual and ensemble instrumental lessons, choir, netball, tennis, hockey, football, gymnastics, fun and fitness, dance, cross-country running, chess, and ICT. The school has a breakfast and after-school provision which is shared with Highfield Infants' School. Children from each year group are elected to become members of the School Council and help to inform whole school decision making. Other jobs of responsibility include class monitors, eco monitors, year 6 House Captains, Highfield Infants/Junior School messengers, ICT monitors, and playground buddies. View full school

At Highfield Infants' School, we have a broad and balanced curriculum tailored to meet the needs of individual children. We draw from a wide range of teaching resources and aim to produce confident questioning learners. Science, Computing, History, Geography, Art, Design, and Technology, and Music are taught through the IPC topics. The IPC topics present learning for the children in a vibrant and meaningful way, that helps to make links between subject areas. Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) understanding is also promoted throughout the units. So as our children develop knowledge, skills, and understanding in subject areas they are also learning about: Their own identity, Perspectives of right and wrong, How societies, including the UK function, Their responsibilities as young citizens locally and internationally. These aspects in turn support our work in promoting both the Highfield and British values. The IPC works hand in hand with our RE syllabus giving breadth and continuity across the whole curriculum. - We are a learning community aiming for high standards of achievement in a purposeful, challenging, stimulating, and inclusive environment. At Higher Openshaw Community School we recognize that each child is unique and we are committed to helping every pupil succeed, whatever their background or ability. We want to create a safe, happy, and supportive atmosphere for all our children. At Higher Openshaw, we believe that your child deserves the best and we aim to provide outstanding learning opportunities and interesting curriculum enrichment activities both within the school and on external educational visits. We place great emphasis on education ‘the whole pupil’, and make no excuses for having high expectations of our pupils. Our staff is committed to working with your child to achieve the highest possible standards and outcomes. To achieve the very best, our children must be confident that school and home are working together to celebrate their achievements, to encourage good behavior and attendance, and to support them through times of difficulty. As well as offering a broad, creative curriculum, we spend a lot of time promoting healthy lifestyles and British values. Through the different variety of parental communication provided we hope that parents can feel connected to the school. At Higher Openshaw Community School we firmly believe in creating a ‘Reading for Pleasure’ culture. We encourage our children to read at every opportunity they get. Whether this is comics, newspapers, fiction, non-fiction, or E-Books, we believe reading provides opportunities for pupils to reach and achieve their true potential. The school is only responsible for the admission of pupils to its Foundation 1 (Nursery) class. All other admissions, Foundation 2 (Reception) up to Year 6 are managed by Manchester City Council. The Council’s admissions team operates an application process where your child will be allocated a place at the nearest available school. They keep a waiting list of places if our school happens to be full in the year group that you require. During the summer of 2016, we were lucky enough to be able to build our own, unique library space for the children. They are now able to borrow books from here, our vast in-class libraries, or choose books as part of our wider reading schemes. The internet is a fantastic place overflowing with knowledge, games, and communities of people, and the pupils here at Higher Openshaw spend a great deal of time using the internet within the school and at home. This is why it is important our pupils learn how to be safe when browsing online. The children here learn about E-Safety through taught lessons and discussions with adults and peers. We also encourage parents/carers to talk to their children about how to remain aware when online, to ensure pupils remain safe when browsing in their own time. At Higher Openshaw Community School, we believe that all children are unique and endorse the principle that they are entitled to the teaching and support which will maximize their abilities and sense of personal worth and hence their contribution to the school and the wider community. About this, we aim to detect those areas where individual children have special educational needs and to provide for them appropriately. At Higher Openshaw Community School, we welcome children with special educational needs and are committed to their inclusion in all aspects of school life. Children may have special educational needs either throughout or at any time during, their school career. This policy ensures that curriculum planning and assessment for children with special educational needs takes account of the type and extent of the needs of the child. Higher Openshaw Community School seeks to develop the full potential of each child, recognizing the uniqueness of each individual. We promote high standards of education for children with Special Educational Needs and encourage their full participation in school and community decisions about their education. At Higher Openshaw Community School, we will have regard to the SEN Code of Practice and consider the three principles for inclusion at all levels of curriculum planning. Pupils with SEN are entitled to have suitable learning challenges set for them. This is achieved through the delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum. The assessment and monitoring of the children’s needs feed planning. We will ensure that action is taken to respond to pupils' diverse learning needs through the class teacher and Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo) monitoring and reviewing through the management of SEN provision. We will help to overcome potential barriers to learning and assessment for individual and groups of children by differentiated quality first teaching, using a variety of teaching and learning activities.
