At Hunters Hall Primary School, we believe that learning is most memorable for pupils when it is planned with cross-curricular links. We offer a creative curriculum that is balanced and broadly based, promoting the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental, and physical development of all pupils. It provides pupils with the essential knowledge, skills, and understanding that they need to be fully integrated citizens in today’s modern society.
All admissions for Reception to Year Six are dealt with by the Local Authority. For further information such as selection arrangements, oversubscription criteria and details of the application process see the main school prospectus. The nursery unit admits 78 children on a part-time basis with 39 per session. Children are normally admitted at the beginning of the academic year in which they achieve their fourth birthday. To register a child for a Nursery place please contact the school office. Our nursery gets heavily over-subscribed therefore we follow the Borough’s criteria regarding admissions.
Wherever possible, we plan topics that have rich contents using stimuli such as artifacts, visiting places of interest, and technology as a starting point for further investigation and to develop inquiry skills. Our aim is for all pupils to investigate rich and challenging issues and topics, often in the context of the real world.
At Hunters Hall Primary School we are committed to the systematic teaching of synthetic phonics to support the development of children’s reading, writing, and spelling. We follow the ‘Letters and Sounds’ phonics program which begins in Nursery. Children in Reception and Key Stage One have a daily phonics lesson. The teaching of high-quality phonic lessons should equip our children with the phonic knowledge and skills they need to become fluent readers and confident writers.
At Hunters Hall we use a variety of reading scheme books to teach children to read. These include Oxford Reading Tree and Big Cat Collins. All books used by the children are color-coded into ‘color bands’. The children are then able to read a variety of fiction and non-fiction books across a ‘color band’ with a similar degree of challenge.
Hunters Hall Primary School provides a Speech, Language, and Communication Outreach Service for Primary Schools in Barking and Dagenham who have a Service Level Agreement (SLA) with the Local Authority. We offer training and support at both Wave 1 and Wave 2 levels.
Central training takes place in our training room for both teachers and support staff. We offer a range of different training opportunities all of which are available for you to view on this site. We look forward to working with you and supporting your staff to ensure the best possible provision for Speech, Language, and Communication for the children in your schools. We work in partnership with our NHS Speech and Language Therapy colleagues and all NHS Speech, Language, and Communication central training, including training for PVIs and settings, will also now be based at our Hunters Hall training hub.
At Hunters Hall we offer a variety of breakfast, lunch, and after-school sports clubs. We also run lunchtime activities led by Miss Thomas who works alongside our teachers and play leaders to structure playground activities and promote a healthy lifestyle.
A school council is a group of pupils elected by their fellow pupils to represent their opinions and raise issues with the head-teacher in the school. It is a way for the pupils in the school to have a fair say and to be listened to with regards to what takes place in their school. Each school counselor is given a notebook and folder to record/store class meeting comments.
The best way to protect your children online is to be informed yourself and make it part of your day-to-day life. We spend years training our children to cross the road and stay away from strangers in the outside world in all the daily messages we give them before we ever let them out there on their own. Training them to be safe online should be an equal part of these safety messages as they can be out on the ‘worldwide web’ from a very young age, unsupervised at times.
