Oasis Academy South Bank opened in September 2013 – a new secondary school serving the local Waterloo community. It offers a small, safe, learning environment for local children, with Outstanding (Ofsted 2015) educational opportunities where every student can reach their full potential. Oasis Academy South Bank is part of the wider Oasis Hub which delivers an extensive range of children’s, youth, and family services in the local community. Oasis Academy Aspinal is an inclusive academy for children aged between 3 and 11 committing to delivering first class-education and playing an active role in the local community. Parents’ evenings are held termly to discuss your child’s progress. Full reports are issued at the end of each academic year. Every Friday we hold a whole academy assembly to celebrate the week’s achievements. In addition to parents’ evenings, if you have concerns we encourage you to make an appointment at any time during the year to discuss anything connected with your child’s education or wellbeing. Each half term we hold parent and child workshops on a different aspect of the curriculum where parents are allowed to support their children learning in school. We are a non-selective Academy open to pupils of all religious faiths and those of no faith. Admissions at Oasis Academy Academy are coordinated under the Local Authority Admissions Policy via Manchester City council. Children with Statements of Special Educational Needs follow the arrangements set out in the SEN Code of Practice and associated regulations and are not subject to the general admission arrangements. Where a school is named in a child’s Statement of Special Educational Needs or EHCP, the child will be allocated a place before the above criteria are applied. The staff and children at Aspinal have undergone a period of rapid transformation since joining the Oasis family. The Year 6 children achieved 100% Level 4 SATS results in 2015 and we had another fantastic year of results this year. At Oasis Academy Aspinal we believe that learning should be a journey of discovery and excitement. Therefore all staff aims to provide challenging and engaging learning experiences both in and out of the classroom. In a journey, we all need occasional pointers to keep us on the right track so children are given clear guidance about intended learning outcomes and are given ongoing and appropriate feedback on their progress towards those outcomes. This process is known as Assessment for Learning. Learning is also a social activity. It relies on knowledge construction more than knowledge transfer. We regularly use Learning Partners to develop conversations and dialogue about both the task and their learning. As children move through school, they are encouraged to be reflective about the quality of their work and that of their peers. We encourage the development of Cooperative Learning Skills to ensure that pupils can work together as well as independently. Finally, learning is a lifelong activity. We aim to provide appropriate role models for our children by encouraging staff development and learning so that the pupils can see that even the Principal is still learning. We also provide a wide range of opportunities to engage families and the wider community in the learning journey e.g., our successful annual family learning weeks and the partnership we are developing with the local community associations. For pupils to see the value in what they learn, these learning experiences should be firmly rooted in the personal experience of our pupils and our community. A curriculum is how a school agrees on what learning experiences pupils will be offered. Pupils are therefore encouraged to value the wisdom of the past by using local people and places as contexts to learning. Oasis Community Learning (OCL) is a Multi-Academy sponsor and it is legally responsible for 48 Oasis Academies. The Oasis Governance Model is different from the way a governing body of a school operates. There are two parts to the governance of Oasis Academies. Local governance is delivered through the Academy Councils (ACs) and national governance, is delivered through the National Office and the Regional Directors (RDs), on behalf of the Board. Oasis believes that the role of the AC is a vital one because it is essential that people in a local community have the opportunity to discuss and reflect on the purpose of education in society and how it can transform communities. It is therefore really important that the AC understands, has time to think about and ask questions about the Academy’s curriculum, teaching, and learning. We aim to meet the needs of all individuals within our academy. Occasionally some children experience greater difficulties in aspects of their learning than others. These children are offered extra support within their class. These students may be identified as having Special Educational Needs. In line with the Special Educational Needs Disability(SEND) Code of Practice these children are placed on the academy’s SEND register. Their progress is closely monitored and reviewed at regular intervals. Oaktree is a maintained day special school for students with a wide range of complex needs. It is co-educational and caters to up to 95 children and young adults aged from 7 - 19. The school was opened on June 15th, 1965, and occupies a delightful site on Enfield's western boundary, close to open countryside. The building itself, which won a design award, is all on one level and comprises ten classrooms, a therapy room, Food Technology, Art Room, a kitchen, and a hall that doubles as a gym. The school has 2 minibusses which are used regularly for educational visits and school journeys. There was a new wing opened in 2008 which houses the Sixth Form and an additional kitchen. In 2016 we opened a state-of-the-art Sensory Room. Students follow a streamed curriculum throughout the school: on the entry, they are designated to a group according to their specific needs, within their key stage. These groupings take account of their abilities and social and emotional needs. Younger students follow a primary model with most lessons being taught by the class teacher and support staff. These groups spend a greater amount of time with their form tutors on basic subjects. Older students follow more of a second model with many lessons taught by specialist teachers. In the Sixth Form, our curriculum is tailored towards Independence and externally validated modules recognized by colleges and employers (AQA, Entry Level qualifications, ASDAN). We are currently developing additional post-sixteen courses and experiences for our Sixth Formers. Classes rarely contain more than twelve pupils and have the support of either one or two Learning Support Assistants depending on their needs. We are increasingly outward-bound in our curriculum, due to the complexity of our student’s needs. When they leave Oaktree our students will live and work in the community, so they learn to shop, visit libraries and sports centers, visit shows, zoos, and theatres, and access outside activity centers. We intend to enrich their lives through an education that emphasizes life skills and experiences which enhance life. we are a Special School for students with complex needs, our mission is the same as any other educational setting - to support and nurture the development of the whole child. This includes their academic progress, the maturing of their social and emotional skills, growing their self-esteem and self-confidence, and learning key life skills in order they can be as independent as possible when they leave us at 19. Oakleigh School & The Early Years Intervention Centre caters to children aged 2 – 11 years who have severe learning difficulties and complex needs. The population includes children with additional needs, such as physical or sensory, and some children on the Autism Spectrum. Oakleigh School has its theme-based curriculum that ensures pupils have outstanding progress through their EHCP outcomes. The curriculum at Oakleigh school is broad and balanced but a huge emphasis is put on Communication, Independence, and Cognition, and Learning. Oakleigh School was built in the late 1950s. Since then, it has undergone continued and ongoing remodeling, enlargement, and refurbishment to provide it with an extensive range of facilities. We have a hydrotherapy pool for our younger children to learn to swim and for children who need hydrotherapy. The school has a soft play environment to support Physical Development, Communication, Social Interaction and to provide a safe place to play and a challenging and safe environment for children of all ages and abilities. We have a sensory room with many attractive sound and light features to support visual stimulation and assessment, as well as opportunities for shared play and interaction. We also have a multisensory den, which is themed to follow the school topic, to enhance the children’s learning experiences. We have a range of shared equipment to bring lessons to life within our school curriculum. They enable teaching and learning to be motivating, allowing our children to be excited about having a voice, and control over their environment. These include eye gaze technology, enabling a child to access a computer a sensory trolley to turn any class into a sensory room, and a floor projector that turns the floor into an interactive multisensory space. The classrooms are well resourced with specialist equipment and a wealth of other teaching equipment for the full range of children in the school. Classrooms have a large interactive plasma screen, connected to a computer and software appropriate for a range of Special Educational Needs, as well as iPads with stimulating apps. Where appropriate classes have additional communication aids, some using speech as well as a range of switches to increase pupils' access to the curriculum. Oakleigh School provides for children who have severe and complex learning difficulties. Classes are organized within the key stages (in exceptional circumstances this may change) and children are grouped to deliver outstanding teaching strategies to meet their needs. All children at Oakleigh School/Early Years Centre will have access to the best quality provision to support teaching and multi-disciplinary support. This ensures that they receive their entitlement and reach their potential, thus developing towards their excellence through maximizing opportunities for enjoyment and achievement within a safe and healthy environment. All parents/carers will be expected and encouraged to work in an active and collaborative partnership with the school, in line with home/school agreements to ensure the needs of the children are met in all settings.
