Our vision - Ysgol Griffith Jones aims to utilize evolving technologies as a vehicle to enhance learning without limits. Ysgol Griffith Jones has excellent buildings and facilities. Housing a self-contained Nursery the provision available for the younger child is second to none. The large school hall, together with the permanent and moveable stage offers excellent facilities for drama work and school functions. The extensive playing fields provide an impressive play area as well as providing opportunities for a wide range of sporting activities. A large gymnasium - one of the very few in any Primary School in Carmarthenshire - allows all pupils to participate in movement, gymnastics, indoor athletics, dance, etc. A new library was opened in April 2012 to support all pupils' reading requirements. Ysgol Griffith Jones has two streams, a Welsh stream, and an English stream. Welsh Stream - Classes are taught through the medium of Welsh. English Stream - Classes are taught mainly through the medium of English with Welsh taught as a second language. The school Nursery and Reception Classes have Welsh as the main medium instruction. From year 2 onwards, parents are given the choice of Welsh Stream or English Stream education. Ysgol Griffith Jones was invited by DECELLS in 2009 to be part of the Welsh program. This compounded the school being known as a ‘Thinking School’ following other initiatives such as Dewch I Feddwl and CAME programs. Developing thinking and assessment for learning program was set up in 2005 by DECELLS (Department for Children, Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills) The program focused on the development, implementation, and dissemination of good practice in the teaching of developing thinking and assessment for learning strategies. Ysgol Griffith Jones began its successful Eco program in 2006 being able to integrate and encourage its pupils to engage with environmental and sustainable development issues. The program continuously provides a highly structured system for the environmental management of schools. Pupils take key roles in decision making and participation to reduce the environmental impact of their school. 2017 has been a year of challenge and change for our school. In December we appointed our new headteacher, who has already been actively working with us on our Post Inspection Action Plan and School Development Plan over the past weeks and months. Mr. McGovern will be joining us in September. In March we received our Individual School Budget and from this, it is clear that challenge and change will remain part of the school’s landscape for some time. With this in mind and with the end of the summer term fast approaching, we thought parents and colleagues would welcome more information about ‘where we are and the ‘road ahead’. So in the spirit of openness, in the knowledge that there will continue to be things that are unknown to us at this point and therefore the need to remain responsive this will be our direction of travel. Despite the need for financial prudence, we will be raising our expectations at Greenhill with immediate effect. If we wait until the beginning of the next academic year, there will be a missed opportunity in the remaining seven weeks of the summer term 2017. Therefore, the next academic year will begin on Monday 5th June 2017. Each year group will move up, for example, year 7 moving to year 8 with a new Head of Year Mrs. Rapi and year 9 will graduate to the upper school and begin their G.C.S.E’s. To ensure we realize our potential our expectations will create a school where: Everyone performs to the very best of their ability in everything that they do, each time seeking to improve on their previous performance. Our community actively respects and supports each other, where equality and dignity are the norms and where diversity is embraced and nurtured as something that enriches us. Staff is unrelenting in their expectation for high standards, and consistent in the application of our standards. Pupils work cooperatively and collaboratively with staff, taking direction from their teachers, and taking responsibility for their learning and behavior. Our behaviors and attitudes seek to enrich our school community the individual, those around them, and the environment in which we live and work Parents actively support the goals and expectations of the school. Ysgol Glanwydden serves the catchment area of Penrhyn Bay, Penrhynside, Bryn Pydew, and Glanwydden. In September 2016 we have 310 pupils including part-time (nursery) pupils. We currently employ 14 teachers (13 class teachers and the headteacher), 16 classroom assistants, 2 lunchtime supervisors, 2 secretaries, dinner clerk, caretaker, 3 cleaners, cook, and 3 kitchen assistants. We believe that building a good relationship between home and school is important to a child's learning, and we encourage parents to become involved with our school. Volunteer parents are welcomed to assist with reading, sports, and other activities. Confidence is gained in a school by being aware of, and understanding what is happening within it. Parents gain greater understanding through contacts and discussion with members of staff. Our joint responsibility for a child's education must be based on mutual understanding and trust, and we encourage parents to take advantage of every invitation to meet with their child's teachers. Ysgol Glanrafon is a designated Welsh-medium school, which is situated on the outskirts of the town of Mold. The school was opened with 8 pupils only in the Bethesda Chapel vestry in Mold, on January 4th, 1949. It is from that little acorn that a strong oak tree has grown which has ensured that Ysgol Glanrafon is the undeniable success that it is today. The success of the school and its increasing numbers meant that it had to move very soon to a bigger building and to the present building where it is now situated on Bryn Coch Lane. We are very proud of the happy and close-knit community created here at Ysgol Glanrafon, where everyone, pupils, staff, and visitors all feel comfortable in the welcoming environment created here. Our aim here at Ysgol Glanrafon, as our Mission Statement states, is to “Attain the highest possible standards in a hard-working, caring, happy and Welsh school, where respect is shown to children and adults, giving everyone a fair chance to develop to their full potential”. The procedures have been planned to ensure that anyone with an interest in our school, can raise a concern and voice a complaint with the confidence that they are given serious consideration, and act upon any recommendations made if this is deemed necessary within an appropriate time scale. Parents who wish to move the complaint to the second stage should do so in writing to the school. The complaint will be acknowledged in writing within 3 school days of receipt, giving a short explanation of the complaint procedure and a target date for the preparation of a response. If the matter can not be dealt with within 10 school days, the complainer will be informed in writing as to when it is likely to be completed. The Headteacher and/or the Management team will allow the complainer to come to school to discuss the complaint having made an appointment beforehand. If he/she wishes, an opportunity will be given for the complainer to bring a friend or relative with him/her to that meeting. If it is deemed necessary, the Headteacher and/or the Management team will interview any witnesses and take declarations from the relevant persons. If the complaint is regarding a child, the pupil may also be interviewed in the presence of witnesses. The Headteacher and/or the management team will ensure that all meetings, telephone conversations, and any other relevant documents will be recorded in minutes. Once all the relevant facts have been gathered and collated, the Headteacher and/or management team will convene a meeting with the complainer to discuss or resolve the matter. Following that meeting, a letter will be sent to explain the outcome of that meeting. To ensure the education of the highest standard for all our pupils and lead them to become responsible, mature and full members of our bilingual society. Ysgol Glan y Môr is a secondary, comprehensive, bilingual, co-educational day school for pupils aged 11 to 16. It is supported by Gwynedd Local Education Authority. Our goal is to ensure that all pupils leave here fluently bilingual so that they can be full members of the bilingual society in which the school exists you live further than 3 miles from the school, and are within the school’s official catchment area, a school bus, free of charge, will collect your child. If you live a little closer - e.g. Efailnewydd, Abererch, subsidized bus service is available (60p at present). Every pupil who is eligible for free transport will receive a bus pass and this must be shown to the driver on every journey. The same pass will be used throughout the pupil’s time here at school and so it will need to be kept safely. A replacement pass costs £5. Pupils must behave well on the school bus. Anyone found to be misbehaving will be punished and may even lose their right to travel on the school bus.s. We have a pastoral duty towards our pupils. We play an important role to prevent abuse and negligence by creating and maintaining a safe environment for children and young people. This substantial responsibility was placed upon us through the Children’s Act 2004 –responsibility for promoting the welfare and playing a key part in protecting them from abuse and negligence. We must give priority to children in need. “Children in need “ are defined as children with SEN, the problem at home, in danger of being excluded, etc. The aim of the Careers Education and Guidance (CEG) program is to help pupils develop skills, attitudes, and abilities that will enable them to undertake and cope with a variety of jobs and situations as adults. We take full advantage of every opportunity that arises during lessons and tutorial sessions to refer to the world of work and economic awareness. From Year 9 onwards, a greater emphasis is placed upon this and CEG becomes a part of the Personal and Social Education package for every pupil. In these lessons, pupils will have the opportunity to get to know and use the Careers Library. They will also start using the Careers Wales website where they will draw up an online CV. In Year 10 every pupil will spend five days on Work Experience. Advisors from Careers Wales visit the school regularly and interview the older pupils individually. They also arrange workshops with groups of pupils and occasionally arrange events such as Careers Conventions for pupils and their parents. Ysgol Glan Clwyd is a school for 11-to 18-year-old young people with a tradition of providing quality bilingual experiences and education for the young people of our community. Our Family Learning was established in 2012. Looking back to when it first began, we only had around 5 parents attend, but as the years have moved on the number of parents, guardians, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and so on has increased tremendously. It allows you to work with your child whilst also having fun! So please come along every Thursday and enjoy some quality time with your children but also an opportunity to meet with other parents enjoying a nice cuppa! Children are allowed to develop their physical skills in various fields of sport. Although the principal objective of the National Curriculum in the Physical Education field is to develop skills, we provide an opportunity for children to compete both in teams and individually. It is stressed that it is competition and enjoyment that is important and playing with other children, striving to improve their performance. Ysgol Ffridd y Llyn is situated in the Cefnddwysarn area, which is approximately three miles from the town of Bala in the county of Gwynedd. There are 64 children aged between 3 and 11 years on the roll, and they are organized into three mixed-age classes. We aim to create a happy school where everyone, children and adult do their best at all times, are enthusiastic, and care for each other, taking advantage of every opportunity and experience to learn and enrich their lives. Children who are happy work better because they feel secure. If they are respected by their parents and teachers, they show respect in return and are more eager to please. We also endeavor to ensure that we are prepared to listen to children, not just to hear them, and will also be fair at all times. This does not mean treating every child the same at all times. Every child must be treated according to his/her needs and own unique personality. We aim to encourage children to become responsible members of their school and community and to become persons who are considerate of others and their environment. We aim to provide every pupil with the best education possible. We attempt to respect the ideas of every adult and child within the school further developing the practice of supporting each other in all aspects of school activities.
