- King Henry VIII College will be a new school, but one with a history that stretches back nearly 500 years. Christ College, Brecon was famously founded in 1541 by Henry VIII, whose name will grace this new school in Malaysia, which will be the first overseas school established by Christ College. Like its Welsh sibling, King Henry VIII College will be a co-educational boarding and day school, with pupils from 3 to 18 years of age. Visitors to Christ College in Brecon invariably comment on the special atmosphere there, and the heartfelt warmth of the welcome they receive. This is something that we are determined to re-create in Malaysia: an ethos that is built on the long, proud history of Christ College. Although King Henry VIII College will be a larger institution than its Welsh twin, we will ensure that the same strength of relationships, characterized by confident mutual respect, tolerance, and encouragement is at the core of the school. Each student's interests, skills, and needs will be recognized and catered for, just as they are at Christ College, Brecon. There will many chances for reciprocal visits and exchanges between the two schools, as well as shared learning experiences, to the great benefit of both sets of students. Working closely with families, our expert teachers will collaborate to produce young people who are ready to go out into the world, to be kind, thoughtful members of their communities, ready to contribute and to make a difference - wherever that might be. The school will value individuality, initiative, and leadership, as well as emphasizing the merits of teamwork. Students will be at the heart of a community of supportive parents, loyal staff, and dedicated, approachable teachers a happy, positive community in which our students will develop resilience, tolerance, and emotional balance a community that promotes curiosity, perseverance, and shared success. Academic success is a critical gateway to higher education, and a meaningful, flexible, and satisfying career. We will have high expectations of all our students, recognize excellence, and reward improvement. We will strive for academic achievement for all our students, whatever their level of ability. We fully anticipate that, just as in Brecon, the vast majority of students will go on to university degree courses of their first choice, either in the UK or wherever in the world the most appropriate course for individual students happens to be. - Henry Cavendish is situated on two separate sites, in Balham, and Streatham. Our school caters to children from the age of three to eleven, from Nursery to Year 6. We are a happy school where the atmosphere is relaxed and conducive to high achievement. We take pride in our diverse community. We value every child as an individual and are proud of being an inclusive school and of our cultural and linguistic diversity. We work closely with parents and families. We have high expectations of all our children both socially and academically. We place great emphasis on personal, social, and emotional development by fostering caring attitudes, thoughtfulness, mutual respect, self-discipline, and self-confidence. We aim to develop each child as an individual, nurturing their strengths and talents. We give our pupils responsibility and believe that they should be encouraged to do their best in a positive, hard-working learning environment. We place a strong emphasis on creativity and ensuring that our pupils enjoy learning and have fun. Henry Cavendish is a very special place with its unique ethos. Our School Council has spent considerable time discussing what our new school motto should include. After much debate they have come up with Create, Discover, Succeed Together this motto acknowledges that we deliver creative learning opportunities where our children take an active part in their education. We firmly believe and build on children’s strengths to ensure that every child is successful. We encourage the children to support each other both academically and socially, hence our pupils do ‘succeed together. We are constantly working hard to improve and enhance the learning environment and the opportunities which we can offer our pupils. We have an excellent Early Years Foundation Stage. They also have a large shared outside learning environment and a new climbing frame which is enjoyed by every child in the Early Years. As children begin their school life, they must be provided with care and education in an environment that enables them to feel safe and supported and which extends their learning and development. We have invested heavily in our Early Years Foundation Stage to ensure that our pupils enjoy school and that parents/carers of Henry Cavendish pupils are confident that their child will receive a quality experience that supports their development and learning. Our children benefit from an amazing and enthusiastic team of staff, governors, parents, and supporters. The pupils themselves have a powerful voice within our school. Our children are exceptionally well taught and enjoy learning – they achieve well academically and emotionally through PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education, Citizenship) and SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning). We are proud to have two active and articulate School Councils, one at Balham and one at Streatham who work both independently and on joint projects. Our children know their school and can identify strengths and areas for development. Our vision for the future is to become more sustainable to ensure that our pupils understand how to look after the environment and what we as individuals can do personally and collectively. Our two ECO Action Teams are extremely proactive and meet regularly. They are passionate about sustainable development and finding solutions to improve the environmental performance of our school. We are fortunate to have solar panels on our roofs at both Balham and Streatham. The panels at our Balham site were jointly purchased with the local community, the Hyde Farm Community Action Network. At Henry Cavendish, we work together with other local educational establishments within our Cluster group of local schools and Children’s Centre. This augments opportunities and provides fresh ideas and the opportunity to share with and support one another. View full school
- Our motto “In work there’s profit” crystalizes our aim to ensure that every pupil reaches their potential through hard work and support from our committed Teachers. We are here to work together to create a happy and successful School of the highest standard. We expect the best possible standards from our pupils and we will do our utmost to give every opportunity and guidance to them. Within the school community, we strongly believe in acknowledging and celebrating pupils’ achievements whether they be academic, cultural, or sports-related and this support is shown on this website. The School holds a very strong Welsh identity which reflects the area, pupils, and families that it serves. Through the ‘Welsh Curriculum’ we, daily, promote the use of the Welsh language, history, and culture of Wales. Education through the medium of Welsh is offered in a wide range of our subjects. We believe in working closely in partnership with parents and outside agencies to enable the pupils to achieve their goals. We kindly ask that Parents co-sign the School/Home Contract that formally acknowledges this partnership by noting the areas in which the school and home can collaborate. Our vision is “To work together to create a successful school which makes sure that all pupils reach their full potential within a safe, challenging, supportive and friendly environment.” Ysgol Henry Richard is a happy school, where everyone respects each other and where everyone’s opinions are valued. These early years are crucial. We want our pupils to flourish academically by being inquisitive and independent learners. At present, we are located over three comfortable campuses (primary campuses in Llanddewi Brefi and Tregaron and a secondary campus in Tregaron), and the next few years will be very exciting as the Secondary campus in Tregaron develops to become a 3-16 campus with excellent facilities. Emory & Henry College, founded in 1836, stands as the oldest college in Southwest Virginia. The central campus is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Historic Landmarks Register. Construction of the main Emory & Henry campus began in 1836, and the first students were enrolled in 1838. Emory & Henry College is one of the few in the South that has operated for more than 181 years under the same name and continued affiliation with the founding organization. The founding organization was the Holston Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and Emory & Henry’s church-relatedness remains strong. Today Emory & Henry is one of 122 institutions affiliated with The United Methodist Church. Because of its distinguished history, the central campus of Emory & Henry is designated as a “historic district” on the National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Historic Landmarks Register. Emory & Henry was granted the honor of pioneering in efforts to establish higher education in rural Southwest Virginia. Currently, Emory & Henry enrolls over 1,000 undergraduate students, almost equally divided between men and women, along with a growing number of graduate students both on the main campus and at the school of health sciences. These students join with a dynamic faculty and staff to pursue the college’s motto: Macte virtue, “Increase in Excellence.” Committed to the concept of liberal arts education, a desire for education of high quality, and a concern for spiritual and ethical issues, members of the college community are proud of its past and excited about the future.
