Dyffryn Taf is an 11-18 Co-educational Comprehensive School situated roughly midway between Haverfordwest and Carmarthen and maintained by Carmarthenshire County Council. It opened as a Comprehensive School in 1989, with many new buildings, and has been extensively refurbished over the last few years. A new Mathematics Block, Science Laboratory and Sports Hall have recently been built, and overall the school provides excellent facilities for the education of its pupils. The school has an open admissions policy, the only limitation being the nature and extent of the resources made available to us. Though the first language of the majority of our pupils is English, we have a number whose first language is Welsh these pupils are offered History, Geography, Religious Education, Drama, and P.S.E. through the medium of Welsh at Key Stage 3. All subject areas are housed in suites and have been provided with the latest computer equipment, thus enabling pupils to benefit from what modern technology can offer. The school aims to extend all pupils to their full potential, intellectually, academically, spiritually, physically, and socially. All school policies have this as their central consideration and motivation. We pride ourselves on how we endeavor to create a caring atmosphere and ethos, where all pupils are treated with respect. Great care is taken to ensure that pupils take appropriate Options in Years 10 and 12. Year 11 and Sixth Form students are carefully guided in their choice of Further Education or career. In the Autumn Term, the school holds an Open Evening where parents and pupils are invited to view the work of Departments. The Governors and staff of Dyffryn Taf aim to ensure that the school provides each pupil, irrespective of ability, background, or gender, with the opportunity to develop to the full their intellectual, physical, practical, personal, and social skills. At Dyffryn, we value all children as unique individuals, each with special talents and abilities. We aim to increase self-confidence and self-esteem through a curriculum that is broad, balanced, coherent, differentiated, and relevant. The education we provide will develop children's knowledge and skills and their moral values. The school's curriculum is made up of the many lessons that pupils experience during the week as well as various extra-curricular opportunities, visits, and exchanges that enhance and extend their studies. The curriculum is kept under constant review to ensure that it meets the needs of all our pupils. Pupils will experience whole-class teaching and have the opportunity to work in groups, pairs, and on their own in a variety of practical, oral, and paper-based activities. The methods used are constantly reviewed and refined by our experienced and highly skilled teaching staff. Recent inspection reports have been highly complimentary. In Years 7 to 9, all pupils have the opportunity of following a common curriculum. For pupils in Years 10 and 11, the school has a core of subjects studied by all pupils. This provides for the requirements of the National Curriculum and allows choice and flexibility within the options system. The choice provided by the school exceeds the national requirement for 14 to 19-year-olds and is praised by ESTYN. The school has maintained an excellent choice of traditional academic subjects including three modern foreign languages, French, German, and Spanish and separate courses in all three sciences, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. The school also provides newer more vocational options such as Engineering, Catering, and Health and Social Care. All pupils take part in a period of work experience in Year 10 and the Duke of Edinburgh Award is available to all pupils in Years 9 to 11. Pupils are made aware of their social and physical environment, with the emphasis being placed upon their roles and responsibilities in maintaining and improving the world in which they live and work. Ysgol Llanfair DC is a bilingual, rural, Church in Wales school. It is situated around two miles outside the town of Ruthin and serves families from the communities of Llanfair DC, Pwllglas, and the surrounding areas. The children can choose to have their education in Welsh or English to ensure that every child becomes fluently bilingual. We provide a happy, caring, and safe learning environment and support each child to learn and develop to their utmost ability during their period in primary school. We value and respect our pupils and encourage them to develop skills to become confident individuals, aware of the wellbeing of others, and happy and responsible members of society. During these past years, a lot of evidence has been collected to support the opinion that diet has a direct effect on health. Therefore we try to promote the importance of healthy eating. Children are not allowed to bring sweets, crisps, biscuits, cakes, or chocolate to eat during playtime. Alternatively, fruit can be bought from the school at 20p a day (£1 a week), or fruit can be brought from home. If your child decides to bring a packed lunch, we strongly advise that you include healthy food, sandwiches, pasta, cheese, yogurt, raw vegetables and fruit, and so on. Try and avoid foods that are full of fat and sugar. There is a water cooler in the school and we ask each child to bring a bottle to school every day. The purpose of the Pupil Deprivation Grant is to improve the educational attainment of pupils from low-income families and who are entitled to free school meals (FSM). Schools are expected to maximize the use of this funding by introducing sustainable strategies which will quickly lead to improved outcomes for pupils entitled to free school meals. View full school

At Ysgol Ffordd Dyffryn we aim to provide a happy, caring, and secure environment in which each child will develop their skills and talents to the full. Every child is special and entitled to the kind of teaching which will not only develop that sense of individuality but also sensitivity to the needs of others. In providing a broad, balanced and relevant education we ensure all aspects of a child’s development are encouraged and stimulated, providing not only for intellectual development but also for social, emotional, physical, and aesthetic growth. It is important that a child is happy at school. You are always welcome to come and discuss any aspect of your child’s education with the Headteacher or a member of staff. However, as a staff has a full-time teaching commitment, you will appreciate that it is difficult for teachers to see parents during the day. Nevertheless, the staff is available most days after school but we would ask that you make every effort to make prior arrangements to see them. The Headteacher will whenever possible, attempt to meet parents to discuss any concerns. The curriculum is all planned activities that the school organizes to promote learning, personal growth, and development. It includes the formal requirements, the extracurricular activities we organize to enrich the experience of the children, and the key skills that underpin learning throughout the school. In Ysgol Ffordd Dyffryn we aim to teach children how to grow into, responsible people, who can work and cooperate so that they can achieve their true potential. Ysgol Dyffryn Ogwen reflects the natural Welsh environment of the local community, but with an emphasis on developing the bilingualism of our pupils. At present, there are some 400 pupils in the school, mainly from Bethesda and the surrounding villages which make up Dyffryn Ogwen. We have 25 teachers and 12 support staff. We aim to support pupils in achieving their potential across a range of academic and vocational subjects, as well as focusing on their literacy and numeracy development. Most subjects use Information Technology, and we have invested substantially in this area. We are proud of the fact that all our students leave Ysgol Dyffryn Ogwen with qualifications in these important skills. We want all our students to leave school armed with the ability to compete in the world of work, further education, and higher education. The school is very well resourced and has access to Plas Ffrancon Leisure Centre daily. We take pride in our school and the environment in which it is situated. It is doubtful if any other secondary school in Wales is situated in such remarkable natural surroundings. The pupils play a key role in creating a welcoming environment that is positive and pleasing for learning in the community of this school. The school has a very good reputation within the community for its caring and friendly atmosphere and its pursuit of high standards. The school has worked hard on its links with the local community and we take pride in our partnership with parents/guardians. The school’s 4-year building program has now been completed. This has resulted in a new Administration and Sixth Form block a fully refurbished Science block including new laboratories and teaching rooms fully refurbished and new teaching rooms in the old 1970 block new Music rooms and Drama studio together with Canolfan Amanwy, a specialist teaching center for pupils with multiple learning difficulties. The upgrading of the Art, Design, and Technology block together with improvements to the Physical Education department has also been completed. The school is a thriving, successful mixed bilingual comprehensive of some 1600 pupils based on a large campus. There is a sixth form of some 290 pupils. The school is located in the small town of Ammanford at the foot of the Black Mountains. Pupils attending the school come from a large catchment area which is a mixture of rural and industrial. The school reflects and enhances the bilingual nature of the area. The school has excellent sports facilities, including a sports hall, a swimming pool, a new astroturf for Hockey and Football, together with new Tennis courts. There is also a fine tradition of sporting achievements and other extra-curricular activities in the school. Many boys and girls represent their county and country in several fields. New members of staff will be joining a highly committed and caring staff. As a school, we take all matters regarding safeguarding seriously.
