- All outside doors within the school have been fitted with escape locks which can be opened easily only from the inside in an emergency but cannot be opened from the outside. A fire drill is held once a term when the children are required to leave the building and assemble in a designated place on the schoolyard. Appropriate signs have been placed above the doors in each class. The safety of the child is solely the responsibility of the parents until the doors are officially opened at 8.50 a.m. every morning at which time the school's responsibility for the child commences. Supervisors are employed at lunchtime. However, the headteacher is legally responsible for all the children during this period. Infants are transferred to the care of their parent/guardian at 3.15 p.m. every day unless alternative arrangements have been made with the school. Occasionally, exceptional circumstances arise where the school is asked to mind the child for an extended period. Members of staff in both the Infants and Junior Departments remain on duty until 3.30 p.m. when every child will have left. Staff is sensitive to circumstances that could arise if the parent is late arriving. The Local Education Authority under the requirement of the Secretary of State, under section 409 of the Education Act 1996, has established a procedure to consider complaints concerning the school governing body and the Education Authority about the school curriculum and other related matters. This procedure has been outlined in a purposeful document which is available in the school. It is emphasized that many complaints may be dealt with both quickly and effectively through holding an informal discussion with the headmaster. This is the first step and the Governing Body will expect this step to be completed before formally presenting the complaint in exceptional cases. View full school
