- We are committed to the provision of a broad and stimulating education for our pupils. We encourage a happy friendly atmosphere, with the child’s need at heart. We aim to develop each child to their full individual potential. The staff is dedicated to supporting each child’s needs, and to providing the best possible education and care for the pupils. At Maesybont school, we endeavor to create a warm, friendly environment in which to nurture a love of learning. We encourage both the use of and the love for, the Welsh language, which is our heritage. Self-respect and respect for others is the foundation upon which our school is built. The school is located in the heart of the village of Maesybont. Many pupils live near the school but number travel from the outlying district. The school is housed in a single-story building, split into three main rooms – two classrooms and a multi-purpose room used for serving lunch, collective worship and which houses the school library. There is additional space for Foundation Phase play and a schoolyard which falls into two areas. The school is in the process of acquiring an area of land behind the school which will be used for outdoor activities • To foster good habits of punctuality, all pupils are expected to arrive at school on time. Registration time is between 8.50 am and 9.00 am. A record is kept of those instances where a pupil arrives late at school. We also kindly ask you to collect your children promptly at the end of the day. If you arrange for somebody else to collect your child after school, please give us an official notice of this. If you wish your child to walk home from school, please inform the school in writing. We strongly advise you to label your child’s clothes clearly, to avoid losing them. If possible, could pupils of Nursery age please bring extra clothing in their bags eg trousers, socks and underwear? Sweets, chewing gum, and snacks such as biscuits and chocolate are forbidden in school. Children are prohibited from bringing toys to school as they become upset if something happens to their property. Foundation Phase children are also prohibited from bringing pencil cases to school. The school provides enough resources for the children’s needs. With regards to safety during playtime, physical education lessons, and generally in the classroom, no jewelry should be worn and children are advised to tie up their hair. It is the parents’ responsibility to check their child’s hair regularly for head lice and to treat them appropriately if needed. If your child is ill with flu-like symptoms or diarrhea and vomiting, please keep your child at home until fully recovered. No glass bottles are to be brought to school. A water fountain is provided for the children and they may use their water bottles for water only.
