Ysgol Felinwnda, being a small rural school, can describe itself as having a happy and friendly environment where the children have an important role in the day-to-day arrangements. Each child is allowed to develop according to his or her ability and receive the utmost support that the teachers can offer. The school is divided into two classes, Miss Thomas is in charge of Nursery, Reception, Year 1, and 2, whilst Year 3, 4, 5, and Year 6 are taught by Mr. Thomas. This division is not rigidly adhered to because the staff exchange classes to fully utilize the teachers’ strengths and to enable the children to receive the best possible education. Ysgol Gynradd Brynsaron is situated in the rural community of Saron, in the Llandysul area. Approximately 45 pupils are on the school register. It is classified as a Category A school, providing education to pupils in the local and wider community, between the ages of 3-11. Welsh is the main language used in the Nursery and Foundation Stage (3-7-year-old). In Key Stage 2 (7-11-year-old) the English language is integrated, aiming to ensure that all pupils are fully bilingual by the end of Year 6, in preparation for secondary education. Ysgol Bontnewydd serves the village of Bontnewydd and the neighboring rural area, including the villages of Caeathro and Llanfaglan. Pupils also travel from outside the school’s natural catchment area. The school serves a widely spread linguistically and socially diverse community. No effort is spared to ensure that every pupil feels part of the school family. The current school opened in 1976, but education has been provided on the premises for over a century. Use is still occasionally made of the Old School, which accommodates the Nursery School. Ysgol Gynradd Gymunedol Aberteifi was established following the amalgamation of Cardigan Infant. School and Cardigan Junior school in September 2008. The School is located in the center of the market town of Cardigan. Children have admitted to part-time education the term after their third birthday and to full-time education the term following their fourth birthday. The school is a Wesh Medium Primary School in line with the guidance in ‘Defining schools according to Welsh-medium provision’, Welsh Assembly Government (2007). Refurbishment work to the school building was completed during the 2015 Summer Term. Work completed included the completion of a new corridor to join the infant and junior department, new toilets, new flooring, and new doors, and new windows to some parts of the building. The school was successful in achieving the third prestigious platinum award from the Eco-Schools program for their dedication and commitment to improving environmental and eco aspects within the school. This was due to the hard work of the school’s Green Council. The school set up the Green School Council to co-ordinate the following aspects: Healthy Schools Scheme, Global Citizenship as well as the Eco-Schools program. Cardigan Primary school is one of the few schools throughout Wales to achieve this award. The school was built in 1864. There are currently 105 pupils at the school. It refers to a growth mindset philosophy presented by Professor Carol Dweck regarding how an individual can increase his intelligence by his conduct. According to the scholar Carol Dweck, individuals can be placed on a continuum based on their personal beliefs about the origins of our ability. Dweck says that individuals can be categorized into one of two different thinking namely "growth mindset" and "stable mentality " (Fixed mindset and growth mindset). These categories are based on the individual's response to failure. People standing and thinking see failure as a result of a lack of natural ability, while those who believe in growth and thinking that anyone can develop a specific skill so far and that they invest effort and time. Having been introduced to the concept of growth mindset at Pentraeth School in September 2016, pupils have participated in a range of activities to learn more about it and try to display a growth mindset in school (and at home). Pupils are taught how their brains work and how new connections are formed when we try new things and practice them, over and over. The school is proud of its tradition, which extends over forty years. During this period we are proud of our former students’ successes in the sporting arena, in the Arts, and a range of vocational domains. Our students’ regular and continued success in external examinations, as well as within a host of extracurricular fields is a testament to that excellent tradition. The school is organized horizontally on a Year basis. There is a Learning Co-ordinator with responsibility for Year 7 (and primary-school liaison), Learning Co-ordinators for Year 8, 9, 10, and 11, and a post-16 education Learning Co-ordinator (Year 12 and 13). All work closely with the Head and the Management team to ensure continuity and consistency of approach in the implementation of school policies, arrangements, and general pupil welfare. Pupils in Year 7 are taught in mixed ability groups, apart from pupils with Additional Learning Needs who have their specialist provision which includes a degree of integration. From Year 8 onwards, pupils may be placed in ability sets in some subjects, whilst remaining in their normal forms for others.
