  1. Surabaya European School was founded in 1997 as the first Montessori school in Surabaya. The school grew with the students in its first class into a British International Curriculum with both Primary and Secondary Schools that became fully accredited with Cambridge International Examinations in 2011. SES is an independent, co-educational, non-profit international school for students aged 3 – 16 with our student's educational journey concluding with IGCSE examinations in Year 11. Our alumni have successfully transitioned to schools in Europe, the USA, Canada, Singapore, and Australia. We pride ourselves on fostering an inclusive international student body with over 15 nationalities represented. Our small size means that all teaching and management staff are familiar with each student’s ability and progress. This allows us to support and encouraged each student in a very personalized way. Our teachers are highly qualified, internationally experienced, and enjoy open lines of communication with parents. Surabaya European School is the only British curriculum-based international school in Surabaya to combine three prestigious programs for children between the ages of 3 to 16. We provide a Montessori education for students from ages 3-6, the Cambridge and the International Primary Curriculum for junior school students, and the Cambridge and British National Curriculum for secondary school students, which culminates in the Cambridge IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) qualification. Our consistent focus for students is on high academic standards, essential life skills, and a sense of responsibility to the community all within the framework of a ‘family like’ atmosphere. As an international school, we pride ourselves on our commitment to providing a diverse and inclusive school community. We also ensure that each student receives the educational support they need while being challenged to extend themselves according to their potential. We are the only school in Surabaya that combines Montessori education for students from ages 3-6, the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) for junior school, and the Cambridge International Key Stage 3 and IGCSE education for secondary school students. The combination of inquiry-based learning and internationally recognized, rigorous academic standards offered by these programs provide an excellent framework for our students’ development. The school is an inclusive international community in which each student is valued in their own right. Students are encouraged to develop their talents, realize their potential, and strive to achieve their personal best in all they set out to do. The well-being of every student is at the heart of all we do and our small size and family atmosphere allow me and my colleagues to maintain a close watch on each child’s development. We also provide a range of sporting, cultural, academic, community service, and adventurous activities as part of our Co Curricula program. Our staff and overall community invest a significant amount of time and effort into this program, which we consider to be essential to our student's overall development. Our program includes the internationally recognized IAYP (International Award For Young People) and Model United Nations (MUN) activities that allow our children to interact with other cultures and the environment in varied domestic and international contexts.
  2. Our school has a short history having begun in 2002, with change being a very big part of our journey. In 2016, the school is working at gaining national accreditation and ensuring we maintain both national and international teaching standards. The process of accreditation is rigorous but important as it shows we are complying with expected standards and regulations. In 2016 we have been fortunate to maintain a stable expatriate staff, several of whom have stepped up to take leadership roles within our more distributive leadership structure. Our lead team focus is on ensuring we deliver quality learning and teaching programs across both our campuses and provide a wide range of experiences for our students. We are finding the best ways to cater for our growing number of English second language learners, to build our dynamic Early Years program, to continue to develop our creative, holistic New Zealand Primary Curriculum, and in Secondary to provide specialized university and career guidance and develop our Language programs to A levels. We are unique in the international teaching world as we are possibly the only school that teaches the NZ curriculum outside of New Zealand. In our Primary campus, we have the Te Whariki curriculum as our backbone for our Early Years program. This encourages play and investigation as an integral part of the young mind’s learning process. We carry this through into our NZ Primary years’ curriculum where our focus is then centered on big ideas and interdisciplinary work. We are looking to ensure that our students get a strong foundation for their secondary school learning but also that they have tolerance and understanding of international cultures and a global sense of their place in the world through a solid immersion in our NZ Primary curriculum. The secondary campus follows the Cambridge Curriculum with our senior students taking International IGCSE / AS / A level examinations. We have recently added the Cambridge Secondary 1 programs to our curriculum strands, which will allow us to look at improving our building blocks to IGCSE. We have added the internationally recognized Duke of Edinburgh Award (known in Indonesia as IAYP – International Award for Young People) and have established an NZIS Leadership Award, which is based on helping and serving others. This year we are also introducing a Hauora (Wellbeing) Award. Our House system is based on Maori themes and we acknowledge our role in exposing Maori and New Zealand culture to our students. However, we are advocates of all cultures, especially our host, Indonesia. Our school is small and this allows us to personalize our teaching. Our student-to-teacher ratio is low, especially in senior secondary classes. We include through our TAP program, Indonesian trainees who operate as teacher’s assistants in the majority of our Primary classes, the TAs provide extra support to our students and complement our native English speakers. Most of our Primary staff hail from New Zealand. However, we are not an exclusively NZ school, with our staff coming from all corners of the world and bringing with them a wealth of experience and knowledge. Through our students, we endorse key concepts and values of respect, tolerance, perseverance, and humility. Like our staff, they also come from all parts of the world and it is not uncommon for a small class of fourteen to be made up of ten nationalities. The strength of our school lies in its warm friendly “family-like” atmosphere and the genuine inclusiveness that exists between all students and staff. We are a true melting pot of nationalities and we take pride in celebrating our diversity. View full school

  4. To provide a quality International & National Curriculum. Supported by the Montessori method of learning. Combined with The Leader in Me – ‘7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Delivered by Qualified Teachers who are continuing to develop their knowledge and skills. In a Quality Environment, which is safe, comfortable, and nurturing. Where children can grow and develop their own individual personal qualities and talents. Woodlands will strive to Empower Children by providing a Comprehensive Academic Curriculum and Holistic Approach to Learning creating Intelligent, Independent, and Responsible Individuals. The Montessori Method of teaching aims for the fullest possible development of the whole child, ultimately preparing him/her for lives many rich experiences. Complemented by her training in medicine, psychology, and anthropology, Dr. Maria Montessori (1870 - 1952) developed her philosophy of education based upon actual observations of children. Children pass through sensitive periods of development early in life. Dr. Montessori described the child's mind between the time of birth and six years of age as the "absorbent mind". It is during this stage that a child has a tremendous ability to learn and assimilate from the world around him/her, without conscious effort. During this time, children are particularly receptive to certain external stimuli. A Montessori teacher recognizes and takes advantage of these highly perceptive stages through the introduction of materials and activities which are specially designed to stimulate the intellect. Encouraged to focus his/her attention on one particular quality, the child works at his/her own optimum level – in an environment where beauty and orderliness are emphasized and appreciated. A spontaneous love of "work" is revealed as the child is given the freedom (within boundaries) to make his/her own choices. Montessori teachers are trained facilitators in the classroom, always ready to assist and direct. Their purpose is to stimulate the child's enthusiasm for learning and to guide it, without interfering with the child's natural desire to teach him/herself and become independent. Each child works through his/her individual cycle of activities and learns to truly understand according to his/her own unique needs and capabilities. Everything in a Montessori classroom has a specific use or purpose. There is nothing in the prepared environment that the child cannot see or touch. All of the furniture and equipment is scaled down to the child's size and is within easy reach. A quality Montessori classroom has a busy, productive atmosphere where joy and respect abound. Within such an enriched environment, freedom, responsibility, and social and intellectual development spontaneously flourish! View full school

  8. Wesley School began in 1971 with Marcia Kirby coming to teach the four children of Dale and Marian Neff. Classes were held in their home. They called it the OMS Guided Learning Center. The following year a house was rented on Jl. Baluran and the other ex-pat children were invited to join. The enrollment increased and diversified with the admission of a business family in 1975. The first non-English speaking children were accepted in 1980. Wesley International School’s vision is articulated best through the “Expected School-wide Learning Results” (also known as the ESLR’s). We are raising Christians, developing communicators, educating thinkers, nurturing lifetime learners, and shaping citizens of the world. Providing a Christ-centered education to impact the world.” Our mission at Wesley International School is to provide students with a Christ-centered education: one that inspires them to love God and live a Godly life, that instills a biblical worldview and produces academic excellence — an education that will prepare our students to impact and bless their world with knowledge, insight, action, and love. Wesley International School (WIS), as a Christian organization, subscribes to the following Statement of Faith: We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is the Son of God who came to earth to die for our sins. (Jn. 5:18 Mk. 10:45 1 Cor. 15:3) We believe in the necessity of being born again by the Spirit of God by receiving the Lord Jesus Christ. (Jn. 3:1-21) We believe that growth in the Christian life depends upon fellowship with God through the Bible, prayer, and service. (Acts 2:42-47) We believe that the Bible is the only Word of God. It is our authoritative guide for accurately understanding God, his world, and our practical guide in life’s various situations. (2 Tim. 3:16-17) e. We believe in the urgency of the Great Commission as described in scripture. (Mt.28:18-20 Jn. 4:35 Lk. 14:23 2 Cor. 5:11) We believe that God is the Creator and Sustainer of the universe. 10. In 1994, five founding families, at the initiative of Laurel and George Tahija, set out to establish a model Indonesian school. By December 1995, the five families had set up a non-denominational, not-for-profit vehicle now called “Perkumpulan Mandiri” or the Mandiri Association to establish, finance, and manage educational endeavors. One of Perkumpulan Mandiri’s major commitments has been to the Sekolah Perkumpulan Mandiri (SPM) School that began with a Kindergarten and Grade 1 in July 1996/1997 with a total student body of 25. Sekolah Perkumpulan Mandiri (SPM) School has grown to offer classes from Kindergarten, Elementary to Junior and Senior High school grades. A unique characteristic of Sekolah Perkumpulan Mandiri (SPM) is its Student-Centered and Inquiry-Based approach and a balance between character development and academic achievement through The Leader in Me program. One of the famous quotes from the great Greek philosopher and scientist, Aristotle is: "Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all".In education, there are 3 domains to be developed, cognitive, psychomotor, and affective or in more friendly terms, knowledge, skills, and attitude. They are the focus of why schools exist and why students come to school. At school students learn things, based on the curriculum decided to be used by the school, they are assessed and scored for every subject they learned. Sekolah Perkumpulan Mandiri’s vision is to be a principle-centered school that develops academic excellence and lifelong learning skills in an engaged community. Sekolah Perkumpulan Mandiri educators, using effective teaching and learning strategies that blend the National and Cambridge International curricula, maximize opportunities for students to actualize their potential and become lifelong learners in a safe and inspiring environment. We value integrity and hold ourselves accountable for the quality of our teaching and learning programs and all aspects of the operations that support our commitments. We value self-respect and respect for others to build strong relationships that foster a compassionate community. We engage in lifelong learning to give individuals the capacity for continuous improvement. View full school

  14. SIS is home to students who represent over 25 nationalities. The students experience a vibrant international mindset every day and show appreciation for other cultures. Our support for each individual, and our learning culture, makes it easy for students coming in from, or going out to other educational systems. Through the development of our school’s Core Learning Outcomes (CLOs) and the IB Learner Profile, students demonstrate international-mindedness: an open, respectful attitude to others’ ideas, cultures, and opinions. Student expression and creativity are written all over the walls at SIS – literally. From the murals that grace the hallways to the music and drama performances showcased at our school, the school’s Fine Arts Department in the elementary and secondary school provides endless opportunities for student expression and creativity. Nestled in the heart of Citraland, SIS boasts a spacious, inviting, and diverse learning space. SIS is committed to providing a safe, caring, and engaging environment suited to the needs of all students. We promote respect for all things and people. We strive to nurture students’ social and emotional development along with their intellectual growth. At SIS, learning is not just confined to the classroom. Learning excursions in and around Surabaya, our Secondary School’s annual Week Without Walls, as well as student-initiated service projects provide endless learning opportunities. Serving our local and global community is important to the students and staff at SIS. As such, our school is actively involved in supporting initiatives such as Habitat for Humanity, and Cleft Care. In addition, our middle school and high school students have opportunities to work with children from local orphanages through outreach programs coordinated by various extra-curricular organizations at SIS. SIS is unique among all of the choices for the following reasons: we have the most qualified international and local staff with the highest ratio of ex-pat to Indonesian teachers in Surabaya, we are the only school that is accredited by a Western accrediting body (Western Association of Schools and Colleges), and we offer the most diverse student body in Surabaya. The majority of our student body wants to continue their university education outside of Indonesia. If you fall into this category, then SIS is the obvious choice for your child. SIS was started by the U.S. Consulate in 1971 and has more experience than any other school in Surabaya preparing students to be successful in universities around the world. To be successful in universities, knowledge of English is not enough. Students at SIS are exposed to a rigorous curriculum using U.S. standards. We follow the IB PYP model in elementary school and an American middle school and high school model in secondary. Our classes culminate with Advanced Placement (AP) courses offered by the College Board which gives students exposure to introductory university classes while still in high school. A curriculum is only as strong as its teachers. Our teaching staff is where SIS outshines every other school in Surabaya. SIS hires the finest international teachers from around the world to work closely with the finest Indonesian staff. All of our core classes from Kindergarten to Grade 12 are taught by ex-pat teachers with experience in their home country, as well as other excellent international schools around the world. 22. We are very much an inclusive community where we value and nurture effective and productive relationships between students, parents, and teachers. The diversity of our community is something we value and celebrate where each member of our community can find a place where they can be themselves. The first thing that strikes most visitors to the College is our warm, welcoming, and vibrant learning environment and culture. There is also palpable energy and sense of purpose as well as a strong work ethic, exemplified by staff and students alike. Our students are serious about their learning and our teachers and staff nurture, guide, and support them every step of the way. Our exceptional examination results speak for themselves and highlight our commitment to academic achievement and success for each student. That alone however is only one part of what we value at Sha Tin College in ensuring our students are well-educated and prepared for life beyond school. With numerous extra-curricular activities and opportunities on offer, students are encouraged to get involved and engage with a wide range of experiences. We especially focus on building self-awareness, self-esteem, and leadership skills in our students and encourage them to lead active healthy lives. Our culture of the community is most evident in our House system. All students and staff are members of one of our four Houses: Dragon, Griffin, Pegasus, and Phoenix. The Houses are run by senior school student leaders and focus on a variety of activities, events, charities, and competitions throughout the academic year. There is an equal measure of healthy rivalry between the Houses and students supporting each other, which all culminates in the award of House trophies at the end of the year. Our Sha Tin College mission statement says it all. “Ours is a culture where we take responsibility for fulfilling our potential and that of others for the good of humanity” – a laudable goal for sure but one we strive for every day! 24. SKIP was established in 1988 by a group of parents as a branch of the Hong Kong Preschool Playgroups Association (HKPPA), an organization that promotes learning through play and encourages parent participation. Initially run from one of the founding parent’s homes, the group moved to its current location in 1989 and became a registered kindergarten. SKIP is a non-profit making organization, registered in Hong Kong as Sai Kung Pre-school Group Limited and governed by a board of directors made up of volunteer parents. We continue to follow the original philosophies of learning through play and parental involvement to this day. At SKIP we believe that ‘play is a child’s work’. Through play, children feel confident to behave in many different ways and to experiment with their physical, emotional, and cognitive selves. It is also through play that children develop their imagination and creativity. Following the play-based UK Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, we aim to ensure children leave us confident and well prepared to tackle the next steps in their education. SKIP parents play a vital role in the school. From attending playgroups, assisting in the classroom as duty parents, organizing or supporting fundraisers, and joining the school board, our parents all contribute to the success of SKIP. SKIP follows an adapted UK Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum using learning through play and a thematic teaching approach. Early years learning concentrates on 7 areas split between prime and specific areas of learning. View full school
