Job DescriptionApplicants must be Australian citizens and hold or be eligible to obtain an Australian Government Security Clearance with the ability to successfully complete an Organisational Suitability Assessment. For more information regarding security clearances please visit (https://www.agsva.gov.au/). The AWS Region Services team combines AWS global cloud leadership with Australian security expertise to deliver highly secure, scalable environments for sensitive workloads. We’re creating innovative ways to use cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and machine learning while maintaining the highest standards of security and operational excellence. The Engineering organisation within Region Services is structured across core capability pillars: Compute & Machine Learning, Security Identity & Compliance, Storage & Databases, and a growing capability domain. Collectively these pillars encompass a team of varying technical skillsets, including Engineers; Technical Program Managers and Subject Matter Experts, organised into focused sub-teams. This is an opportunity to make a lasting impact on Australia’s digital future. You’ll work with AWS services, implement innovative solutions, and help customers succeed in their most important missions. We’re committed to helping our builders grow through continuous learning, mentoring, and collaboration with industry experts. Are you ready to build the future of secure cloud computing in Australia? Key job responsibilitiesThe Systems Engineer leads the design, implementation, and automation of complex Windows infrastructure solutions across multiple environments. This role serves as the technical specialist for infrastructure automation, system architecture, and enterprise-scale Windows environment management, focusing on developing automated solutions for managing large server fleet.- Design and implement automated solutions for Windows infrastructure deployment and management- Architect and maintain Active Directory and domain controller infrastructure across multiple security domains - Develop comprehensive Infrastructure as Code templates for Windows environments - Create automated workflows for system administration using PowerShell, Python, and other automation tools - Design and implement scalable solutions for meeting rooms, video walls, and enterprise printing services - Lead technical initiatives for infrastructure improvements and automation - Mentor junior engineers on automation best practices and Windows infrastructure managementA day in the lifeYour morning starts with a review of overnight automation runs. The Infrastructure as Code deployment you scheduled has completed successfully — fifty servers provisioned, configured, and domain-joined without a single manual touch. You verify the results, make a minor template refinement, and commit the update to the repository. Mid-morning, you're deep in an Active Directory architecture session. A new security domain is being stood up, and you're designing the domain controller topology, trust relationships, and Group Policy structure that will govern it. You sketch the architecture, validate it against security requirements, and begin translating your design into automated deployment scripts. After lunch, a junior engineer pings you for guidance. They're building a PowerShell workflow to automate a recurring maintenance task, and they've hit a logic challenge. You pair with them for twenty minutes, guiding them toward a cleaner approach while explaining the "why" behind your suggestions. They push their updated code with confidence. Later, you're tackling a scalability challenge for the enterprise meeting room infrastructure. The current solution works, but it won't scale to the next phase of growth. You prototype an automated provisioning approach that can handle ten rooms or a hundred with the same template — and document it so the team can extend it further. Before wrapping up, you review a pull request from a teammate, run a quick validation on a Python automation script you've been developing for fleet-wide patching, and update the team's technical roadmap with progress on your current initiative. Another day where automation won, and manual toil lost. About the teamRegion Services provides the highest caliber Operational Solutions and Cleared Support for services within our Regions. We provide 'hands on keyboard' support to our service teams by deploying changes into these isolated regions, monitoring the results, and reporting any issues that are observed.Diverse ExperiencesAmazon values diverse experiences.
