  1. Université de Nantes has never stopped moving forward. In the last 50 years, Université de Nantes has taken training and research to the highest level. Facing a rapidly changing world, Université de Nantes invents a new model of University. This model places the student at its center and, more than ever, the human being at the heart of its ambitions. Rooted in Nantes - a city renowned for its vitality, culture, economic development, and its quality of life - Université de Nantes also radiates thanks to its two campuses in Saint- Nazaire and La-Roche-sur-Yon. With 34,000 students (including 3,750 international students) and 4,250 staff, 50% of which is dedicated to research, 1 out of 12 Nantes residents works or studies at Université de Nantes. Right cultural, sports, and society contributor, our University also encourages the revitalization of its region by enriching public debate and by stimulating creativity: conferences, up to date media equipment, artists-in-residence programs, high-level sports, student commitment through 150 student organizations. Within its campuses, different disciplines meet to enrich one another. Université de Nantes is one of the rare French universities to promote interdisciplinarity. Within 21 faculties and schools, 295 specialties are represented, and 63 laboratories work in all knowledge fields. 75% of them are A and A+ rated. Université de Nantes enjoys the significant assets needed to encourage local, national, and international cooperation and make interdisciplinary a factor of innovation and success. It contributes to the innovation of the socioeconomic make-up thanks to its researchers, laboratories, equipment, and state-of-the-art technological platforms. Furthermore, recent university graduates (8,000 every year) constitute a vast pool of skills and talent. By getting involved in local issues while keeping an international perspective, Université de Nantes shows its capacity to work with the new scales of territory. This is essential to any development. Research is a significant growth sector for Université de Nantes, with 75 accredited laboratories. Students will be awarded the diploma from each partner's universities (double degree or joint degree). Moreover, Université de Nantes offers some English taught programs. His academic year begins in September and ends in May or June, depending on the program. The year is punctuated by vacations, including two weeks at the end of the year (Christmas and New Year's). The two semesters are divided by a short break following final examinations at the end of the first semester. The summer vacation lasts more than two months and always includes the months of July and August. One finds two basic types of classes in French higher education, particularly in universities. Lectures are given in lecture halls accommodating from 100 to 1,000 learners. The professor speaks while his or her students listen and take notes. Professors often prepare summaries of their lectures to help students prepare for exams. In seminars, tutorials, and labs, small groups of students meet to apply or explore the material covered in lectures in greater detail. Attendance is mandatory, whereas attendance at the lectures is not. The system consists of course units. Each UE has a value defined in ECTS credits and corresponds to the number of hours of study (lectures, tutorials, practical work, personal projects). The student must complete obtaining a UE. A full year represents 60 credits or 30 credits per semester. No predetermined set of equivalences between French and foreign degrees is officially recognized in France. Each institution is free to set its admission criteria and make its own admission decisions based on each applicant's background and the program's demands to which the applicant seeks admission. That freedom allows French institutions to compose well-qualified and well-balanced student cohorts while also protecting the integrity and the reputation of the education offered. 2. Industrial design is a strategic problem-solving process applicable to products, systems, services, and experiences, which results in innovation, business success, and a better quality of life.” (Definition of the World Design Organisation, 2015) Design is a creative activity to be practiced within a professional and well-structured framework. The qualities acquired throughout training courses must meet the requirements and expectations of likely employers: well-behavior, organizational skills, resourcefulness, and practical skills. Those qualities must serve the talent and creativity of young professionals. Partner of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Nantes, L’École de design Nantes Atlantique is a private institution for higher education dedicated to Design professions, in association with the University of Nantes. Founded in 1988 and recognized by the State, the school is a non-profit organization. Since 1998, L’École de design Nantes Atlantique has been located on the technological campus Atlanpole La Chantrerie, in the northeastern area of Nantes (France), housed in a custom-built facility thanks to the support of local authorities (Nantes Saint-Nazaire Chamber of commerce and industry, the Pays de la Loire regional authorities, the Loire-Atlantique area local council, Nantes Métropole). The only design institution in western France, the school benefits from a unique regional situation. For ten years now, it has proactively followed an outward-looking international development policy: academic exchange programs participation in the international association Cumulus the opening of the China Studio in Shanghai and the India Studio in Delhi several international MDes programs organized in English a preparatory class for the master’s year dedicated to French-speaking international students L’École de design Nantes Atlantique is an active member of various academic networks and professional organizations: Conférence des Grandes Écoles (top-tier French higher education institutions), COMUE (Higher Education and Research Clusters) of the Universities of Nantes, Angers and Le Mans... For many years, its students have been awarded prizes in prestigious competitions. The successful careers pursued by our graduates are acceptable proof of the quality of our teaching methods. 25% of our young graduates in 2016 are pursuing international careers. They have headed for eight destinations: the United States, China, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Canada, Singapore. This openness to the international market can be explained by several factors: the opportunity to study MDes Transcultural Design in China or India, the obligation for students in their MDes program first year to follow a semester or an internship abroad in a foreign company or agency. We also notice that 29% of graduates are still abroad one year after graduating, 26% are employed in the West of France, 40% in Île de France, and 34% in the other regions of France. 3. In keeping with French Engineering schools (grandes écoles d'ingénieurs), Centrale Nantes, founded in 1919, trains versatile engineers to a very high scientific and technical level. Equipped with a strong managerial culture, they can place scientific subjects into a global context incorporating environmental and societal issues. As a member of the Ecoles Centrales Group (Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Nantes, and Paris), Centrale Nantes delivers a teaching program of the highest quality to rigorously selected students. Over 2000 students are present on the Nantes campus. Our extensive links with the world's top universities open up international study opportunities. The School belongs to one of the most exclusive networks, which is ever-expanding, particularly towards India, Japan, Brazil, and Russia. Beyond this renowned training, with the support of numerous strong institutional and industrial partnerships, Centrale Nantes produces world-class academic and applied research. Research and education have always gone hand in hand at the School. This osmosis between education and research will be valuable, beneficial, and a guarantee of quality in your studies at Centrale Nantes. At Centrale Nantes, you will be in tune with the financial world, at the very heart of innovation. In a spirit of innovative exploration, entrepreneurship, and practical application, our training will confront you with the significant challenges of the 21st century, combining theory and "doing." Centrale Nantes has two primary tools for innovation and creation: unrivaled research platforms (ocean test facilities, dynamic and static testing, rapid manufacturing, engine test benches, etc.) and an incubator with 20 years of experience in supporting startup projects. Since an engineer develops products for society, you will learn how companies work and develop your ability to create, develop, and manage them. The Centrale Audencia ensa Nantes Business Incubator is there to help those who wish to start your own company. What matters most to us, beyond imparting knowledge, is to support you in your personal and career development plans, whether they be already well-defined or yet to be broached. For this reason, each training program is different, and the coaching that you will benefit from here will enhance your personal growth and career development. For nearly one century, from Institut Polytechnique de l'Ouest to Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Mécanique to Centrale Nantes today, the School has demonstrated its ability and willingness to evolve and transform continuously. And this, with the strong commitment to remain in step with global technical and economic developments. Centrale Nantes has a mindset and a mode of operation oriented towards exploration, entrepreneurial spirit, and practical application, from theory to the design of solutions adapted to economic challenges and industrial players. Our programs prompt students to reflect on the significant societal challenges of the 21st century. Among these, the three significant growth and innovation challenges of the energy transition, manufacturing, and healthcare emerge and structure the curriculum. In a progressive environment, where the professions of tomorrow will rely on knowledge that does not exist today, and where this reality is revitalized by globalization that requires careful observation of a perpetually changing context, Centrale Nantes strives to share with its students, teachers, researchers, staff, and all its partners three fundamental values. Beyond its necessary contribution to the creation of the wealth of a structure, engineers, as well as teachers and researchers, have the moral duty to be responsible actors for the future of the planet, for social equilibrium through job creation, for the professional well-being of their employees, and to participate in the responsible edification of the city, it is social as well as entrepreneurial fabric. The message of the School is not only that of corporate social responsibility, but also that of ethics: to provide meaning to one's professional activity, a meaning that can even surpass the self, but that carries the vision that man is at the center of a world which, without ethics, could be under threat. In 2014, a significant debate was organized at the School on the following question: "engineer and citizen or citizen engineer"? The participating students and staff's response was almost unanimous: an engineer must be intrinsically citizen; the two are inseparable. While preserving their personality and autonomy, the five Centrale Schools: Lille, Lyon, Nantes, Marseille, and Supélec (Paris) chose to join forces within Ecoles Centrale Group in 1990. This grouping allows, first of all, better visibility of these institutions vis-à-vis institutions and industry. In this sense, it fosters collaborations with companies. Thanks to the Centrale Group, our engineering students have to access a wider choice of courses with the possibility of completing their final year in one of the other schools. The Centrale Schools share a common ethic on the training of versatile high-level engineers for industry. View full university
