      About Me

      1. Welcome to Lawrence School. We are a very busy but friendly school and we've always got lots of things going on. At our school we have three very clear aims that underpin everything we do: To develop a school where effective teaching and learning take place and there is fairness for all. To enable all our children to achieve their full potential while helping them become responsible members of society. To develop a school community where everyone is valued. Our motto is “Where everyone is valued” and we find that this encompassing approach enriches everybody involved with our school. We teach and promote respect and tolerance for the differences in our community and the wider world through all aspects of school life. We have high standards at Lawrence and achieve this through a creative and fun curriculum but also by providing an environment where children feel safe and happy. Our children are eager to learn and they bring out the best in our teachers. They are polite and courteous and these qualities are commented on by visitors to our school. At Lawrence, it is our privilege and duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of all our children. At Lawrence, we aim to foster a caring, sharing environment where a total commitment to equality and opportunities permeates the whole curriculum. We aim to provide a secure, happy, and stimulating learning environment in which the talents and abilities of our children are recognized and nurtured. Everyone within our school is given opportunities to achieve their full potential in all aspects of intellectual, spiritual, moral, social, and physical development. Our school proudly takes its place in our local community and we establish strong links between our children and their families and friends promoting attitudes of mutual respect and responsibility. At Lawrence Community Primary School we value and celebrate the diverse ethnic backgrounds of all our pupils and families and celebrate together the British Values that underpin our school, our city, and our country. One of our key aims at Lawrence is to ensure that all of our children are equipped with the skills and attitudes to become valuable and fully rounded members of society who treat others with respect and tolerance, regardless of background. We are extremely proud to be a "School of Sanctuary". We must ‘actively promote’ the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and we believe that this idea of fairness for all encourages an acceptance that people having different faiths or beliefs to oneself should be accepted and tolerated. To support this aim we include in our curriculum, and in other aspects of school life, objectives, and activities that develop an understanding of how citizens can influence decision-making through the democratic process. As a school, lucky enough to have children and families from very many different cultures and faiths, we promote a shared understanding as we all have the freedom to hold other faiths and beliefs. This principle is protected in British law and is a proper requirement for any compassionate society. We believe and promote through all our actions, both within the curriculum and throughout all our activities, that differences in faiths or beliefs should not be the cause of prejudicial or discriminatory behavior and as a school community, we challenge any type of discrimination that we identify. We undertake a variety of events and lessons throughout our curriculum and through all areas of our school life that help us celebrate together share, and learn together all about these and all about each other. Our Curriculum is always evolving and changing and we are tweaking it again this year to make sure we fit in all aspects of the New National Curriculum. Our Reception and Nursery classes follow a continuous provision curriculum that responds to the experiences and ideas of our youngest children. View full school
      2. Welcome to our school. We live and celebrate our Christian life together with the development of each person's full potential in a climate of joy, freedom, respect, challenge, cooperation, and celebration. Our community enriches our lives - children, staff, parents work collaboratively together towards achieving the best possible learning environment for all. Enrichment is intellectual, physical, spiritual, moral, social, and emotional. We promote a spirit of charity, social justice, global awareness, and concern for others. We work for a culture of tolerance where individuals of diverse identities are recognized, welcomed, respected, and cherished. We strive for our children to receive fair and just treatment and equal opportunities, rejecting prejudice in all forms and respecting the rights of others. We demonstrate listening, mutual understanding, trust, reconciliation, healing, and peace. Our children live and work in preparation to lead fulfilling and purposeful life which will contribute to the common good. Our Christian Ethos: This is reflected in our life together - our working, our teaching, and our learning. We are all God's children and through our daily teaching and learning, we discover our gifts. We know that we are loved and listened to by God and one another. We help each other and encourage each other to feel secure, safe, positive, and to look forward to coming to school and learning. The Government set out its definition of British values in the 2011 Prevent Strategy, and these values have been reiterated this year (2014). At Kirkdale, St. Lawrence CE Primary School these values are reinforced regularly and in the following ways: Democracy The Rule of Law Individual Liberty Mutual Respect Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs Kirkdale St Lawrence places a great emphasis on promoting diversity with the children. Assemblies are regularly planned to address this issue either directly or through the inclusion of stories and celebrations from a variety of faiths and cultures. Our RE and PSHE teaching reinforce this. Members of different faiths or religions are encouraged to share their knowledge to enhance learning within classes and the school. Children visit places of worship that are important to different faiths. Through this, our children gain an enhanced understanding of their place in a culturally diverse society. We are very excited to be one of a group of schools being assessed in March for the Liverpool Counts Quality Mark. At Kirkdale St Lawrence we want all of our pupils to feel confident about their work in Maths and to learn how to use their Maths skills in everyday life. The quality mark is helping us to explore how we can do this even better. At Kirkdale St Lawrence we are committed to providing a broad and balanced curriculum. We have high expectations of all our pupils and aim to accommodate the needs of every learner. We embrace the fact that every child is different and therefore the education needs of every child will vary. View full school

      14. St Lawrence RC Primary School is a thriving, busy, and welcoming primary school at the heart of our parish and neighborhood in Feltham, South West London. We aim to allow visitors to gain a flavor of what makes us tick and to give an insight into our inclusive community. Catholic principles based on gospel values molded by a community centered on love and forgiveness with a desire to succeed for the highest accolades are the roots that underpin the ethos of the distinctive nature of Catholic education. We believe that here at St Lawrence we have been delivering this since the school was founded in 1934. Today we have over 500 children ranging in age from 3 to 11. We believe that we offer each child regardless of their starting point or ability, the opportunities that they are divinely entitled to. Our Mission statement cites that ‘Our school is a place where we all come together as one community to learn, have fun and make lasting friendships, all under God’s love and care. We are truly blessed to have wonderful children who are guided and supported by parents and carers who engage fully with our school. Our staff is dedicated and committed to delivering the very best experience for all children, with many having been at St Lawrence for many years. Our governing body plays an integral role in our success acting as the 'critical friend', they challenge and support us to ensure that we are always able to deliver our vision and values. The relationship between the parish and school has always been very strong and the links that are made allow the child’s faith to grow and blossom. This link begins early in a child’s education and sets a standard of living and believing that will continue as they grow older. Catholic schools exist to ensure that education for Catholics will always involve coming to know and live the beliefs and practices of the Catholic Faith. This will start in the family home, but will also find vital links in belonging to a parish and belonging to a school. It begins to create an identity within each child. At St Lawrence's, both staff and pupils strive to live its ethos daily the governors have a responsibility of protecting and maintaining that ethos so that the school can truly be said to be anchored in Christ within the Church. It is an ethos and a responsibility that requires strong, healthy, and effective links with the parish. The links that are well established between families, the parish, and the school, find their origin in the teachings of Jesus Christ and the mission of the Catholic Church. We all need to be fully committed to ensuring that this experience of the truths of our faith will be well understood and wholeheartedly lived by future generations, as well as our own. Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. They underpin our teaching and learning and provide an environment that prepares our pupils as confident, happy citizens. We endeavor to provide a safe, enjoyable, learning environment, coupled with strong Catholic values which allow all our students to achieve their maximum potential inside and outside the classroom. Our motto ‘High standards through Christian values’ encapsulate perfectly what we believe at St. Lawrence and we wish to extend these ideas to anyone who wishes to be a part of our family. By The Department for Education, we aim to actively promote British values in schools to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. Pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races, and cultures with respect and tolerance and understand that while different people may hold different views about what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, all people living in England are subject to its law. As an educator, We see SLA as providing the most balanced system available today. When it comes to preparing children for real-life a multi-grade level class that encourages students to work within a group setting where abilities vary and ages converge, most practically mirrors the work world students must transfer into upon graduation. St. Lawrence Academy’s inclusive focus and family atmosphere are one of its strongest assets. Every child has their niche and strength. Our responsibility at SLA is to find that strength, aid in its growth, and build upon it. All children can know success. The Pre-K and Kindergarten program at SLA utilizes the Learning Without Tears, Jump Math, and Jolly Phonics curriculum. Focussed on creating readers ready for Grade 1, SLA’s Kinder program uses a hands-on learning approach while acknowledging the importance of rote learning. It is through this balanced program that we build students ready for the challenges of grade 1. Jolly Phonics is a comprehensive program, based on the proven, fun, and multi-sensory synthetic phonics method that gets children reading and writing from an early age. This means that we teach letter sounds as opposed to the alphabet. These 42 letter sounds are phonic building blocks that children, with the right tools, use to decode the English language. When reading a word, they recognize the letters and blend the respective sounds when writing a word they identify the sounds and write down the corresponding letters. Children are taught 42 letter sounds, which is a mix of alphabet sounds (1 sound – 1 letter) and digraphs (1 sound – 2 letters) such as sh, th, ai, and ue. Using a multi-sensory approach each letter sound is introduced with fun actions, stories, and songs. Children who master handwriting are better, more creative writers. The earlier we teach children to master handwriting, the more likely they are to succeed in school and write with speed and ease in all subjects. We use fun, engaging, and developmentally appropriate instructional methods to enable children to master handwriting as an automatic and comfortable skill. JUMP Math is dedicated to helping children succeed at, and enjoy, learning math. There is a strong causal link between a child's academic success and his or her future contribution to society. We strive to increase children’s chances of success, reduce socio-economic disparities, engender a sense of belonging, and, most importantly, endow voiceless children with opportunity. The JUMP Math approach starts with a confidence-building exercise that has demonstrably changed children's perceptions of their abilities. By adopting the methods and principles of JUMP Math, schools can teach mathematics to a higher standard, without leaving students behind, and in a cost-effective manner. There will always be differences between students, but we don’t need to exaggerate or highlight them by setting up unnecessary hierarchies. By using materials and methods that minimize differences, teachers can cover more of the curriculum and can narrow or close the wide gap in student performance that exists in most classrooms. Empower Reading is a program designed to teach readers a set of valuable strategies that they can use to decode words. By using these strategies students will experience success in reading and thus gain confidence in their reading skills. Empower Reading will equip students with multiple word attack strategies that will aid them on their way to becoming independent readers. Physical activity has been shown to have substantive effects on brain chemistry and positively impact perception skills, IQ, achievement, verbal and math scores, development, and academic readiness. The St. Lawrence Academy offers a comprehensive Physical Education Program, with classes scheduled every day. It includes the study of age-appropriate team sports throughout the year, learning and practicing a new sport each month. Health classes, built upon the Ontario curriculum, occur twice a month with testing at the end of each month to ensure well-rounded body knowledge. SLA enriches our Physical Education program with the use of various local facilities and clubs in and around Prescott, such as the Prescott Golf Club, the Leo Boivin Arena, the Prescott Tennis Club, and the Prescott Curling Club. Competition in local Track and Field Meets, Cross Country Meets, and team sports round out a very comprehensive program. Research indicates that students’ experiences in their first year of high school often determine their success throughout high school and beyond. This is why, that along with the completion of the grade 7/8 curriculum, our program is successfully structured for our students to make a smooth transition to secondary school. We understand that high school can be a frightening and overwhelming experience for many students as they adjust to new responsibilities and challenges. Our teachers have taken careful consideration into creating unique opportunities to encourage and promote specific skills that are of great benefit to our middle school graduates as they embark on their high school journey. Many of these skills are weaved throughout our courses over the entire year, while the last month of school is primarily dedicated to ensuring that our students leave with a solid foundation in the following skills, time management, and organizational strategies. Note-taking and study skills, Leadership training, and peer mentoring, Confidence and positive self-esteem, Accountability which includes students tracking, reflecting, and taking ownership of their grades, Critical thinking and problem solving, setting and achieving goals.
