      1. The Meiji University of Integrative Medicine, with the spirit of harmony, aims at developing truly commendable health care staff capable of contributing to medical services with a holistic viewpoint. The Meiji University of Integrative Medicine came into being as part of the parent organization, the educational corporation of Meiji Institute of Oriental Medicine, as Japan’s first three-year college of Acupuncture and Moxibustion in the central district of Kyoto Prefecture, rich in the natural environment, in 1978. In 1983, the college became a four-year University with its present name to meet the demands of society. Cultivating the humane health care workers of the patient-oriented medical services from a holistic viewpoint. In 1987, the University established Japan’s first affiliated Hospital, except for medicine and dentistry, for its clinical practice facilities and further deepened the relationship with modern medicine. It has since progressed as higher education and research institution for acupuncture and moxibustion. The University established the Faculty of Judo Seifuku Therapy, College of Medical Technology, Japan’s first higher education and research institution relating to Judo Seifuku, in 2002. It became the only Faculty of Judo Seifuku, School of Health Sciences and Medical Care for training Judo Seifuku students in Japan in 2004. Furthermore, it progressed to establish the Faculty of Nursing Science, School of Nursing Science, to make full use of the educational and research resources cultivated and accumulated by 2006. With the spirit of harmony, the quintessence of the university foundation spirit, we, the university staff, are determined to accomplish three forms of harmony: between man and man, between man and nature, and between the Orient and Occident, continually striving to integrate Oriental and Occidental Medicine from the holistic point of view and to produce genuinely commendable health care staff and personnel who are capable of contributing to medical services for the Japanese society and its people. Since its foundation, Meiji University of Integrative Medicine has been steadily achieving the aim of its foundation, namely “Creation of the Highest Institution of Learning for Oriental Medicine in Japan,” setting up affiliated facilities for education, research, and clinical medicine one by one, such as the Research Institute of Oriental Medicine, University Hospital, and the Clinic of Oriental Medicine in a well-planned manner. The three schools of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, Health Sciences and Medical Care, and Nursing Science, and the Graduate School of Acupuncture and Moxibustion with Doctorate and Masters Courses make it possible to construct a curriculum for nurturing high-grade clinical abilities and providing high-quality academic studies because they have a direct connection with these medical facilities, like the University mentioned above Hospital. The Graduate School of Acupuncture and Moxibustion aims at training human resources with high-degree learning, developed from the undergraduate course, and provides two courses: Clinical Course for the acquisition of advanced clinical abilities and inquiry into clinical possibilities (the first half of the doctoral course [masters course]) and the Research Course for the investigation and clarification of the effectiveness of Acupuncture and Moxibustion (the first half of the doctoral course [masters course] and the second half [doctoral course]). The learning environment is impeccable, including an affiliated library, allowing students to devote themselves to their studies and helping them answer questions and solve problems that they encounter in their daily learning and studies. Moreover, the number of teaching staff is incomparably outstanding and surpasses the expected ordinary standards. With its required substantial systems, the University organically integrates learning with research and makes every effort to meet various demands and needs.
      2. Meiji Gakuin University traces its origins to the Hepburn School, which was established in the Edo era's closing days. Over its history of more than 150 years, Meiji Gakuin University has supported Japan's globalization by playing a pioneering role in education. The four years you spend as a college undergraduate will be the most memorable time in your life. What awaits you after your experiences among the six faculties and 15 departments is your new self. Meiji Gakuin University places a strong emphasis on international education and exchanges. Meiji Gakuin University provides many opportunities to develop links to the world, through its overseas study program, as a place to understand the world through its political, economic, and cultural background, and as a place to consider the issues of the day through interactions with persons of many different nationalities. To come to know the world, you must come to know Japan and come to know yourself. If you are not confident of your language ability, this is your opportunity to discover a new self by exchanging experiences with others. No one knows what will happen in the world or what the future holds for oneself as an individual. This is why it is essential to use your four years of study as an undergraduate to develop the capacity to think (which is to say, to live). First, there is the door of curiosity: open it! What makes Meiji Gakuin University unique is the way that studying one thing can lead, via research and practice of various kinds, to all sorts of new possibilities that sometimes go beyond the scope of your faculty or department. The faculty consists of unique individuals who are ready to listen to your thoughts and doubts. Discover something new each day, and taste the joy of learning that comes from encountering yourself anew. Meiji Gakuin University aims to promote excellence in academics and athletics by actively supporting independent student activities related to sports and culture, resulting in a wide variety of active clubs and circles. The rugby club, the soccer club, and other sports clubs are part of the Project to Enhance Sports at Meiji Gakuin. Another example of the wide variety of activities that students can participate in is the dance circle Break Jam, which boasts having won the title of Best Dance Circle in Japan for both 2015 and 2017. The greatest pleasure of participation in clubs and circles is getting to know valued friends with whom one can share the joy and excitement of these activities. Based on its educational philosophy of "Do for Others," Meiji Gakuin University not only supports autonomous efforts by students through volunteering and other activities but also supports student life in a variety of ways, including note-taking, to address challenges in an increasingly diverse modern society. Standing by other people and getting to know them is the first step toward changing the world.
      3. Meiji University was founded in January 1881 as the Meiji Law School by a group of young lawyers barely in their 30's: Tatsuo Kishimoto, Kozo Miyagi, and Misao Yashiro. It was an era characterized by Japan's urgent need to develop as a modern independent nation. The three founded the Meiji Law School in their fervent hope to "foster bright, capable youths who would lead a modern civil society in Japan". Although confronted with countless obstacles and hardships along the way, Meiji University was born as a learning and education site. Continuing its growth without ever ceasing to ring the chimes of liberty, Meiji University has expanded as one of Japan's prominent private universities, celebrating its 130th anniversary in 2011. With Rights, Liberty, Independence, and Self-government as its guiding principles, Meiji University is committed to fostering students who satisfy the requirements of "austerity and sturdiness", "creation of new intellect," and "needs of the times". Having sent out more than 520,000 graduates into the world to date, it has contributed vastly to society's progress. The achievements of the University's numerous alumni actively engaged in critical roles in various walks of life are highly reputed. Meiji University ranks solidly among the best universities in Japan, currently consisting of 10 schools: the School of Law School of Commerce School of Political Science and Economics School of Business Administration School of Arts and Letters School of Information and Communication School of Global Japanese Studies School of Science and Technology School of Agriculture the School of Interdisciplinary Mathematical Sciences The Graduate School is made up of 16 schools: the Graduate School of Law Graduate School of Commerce Graduate School of Political Science and Economics Graduate School of Business Administration Graduate School of Arts and Letters Graduate School of Information and Communication Graduate School of Science and Technology Graduate School of Agriculture Graduate School of Advanced Mathematical Sciences Graduate School of Humanities Graduate School of Global Japanese Studies the Graduate School of Global Governance There are independent schools in various disciplines, including the Law School, Graduate School of Governance Studies, Graduate School of Global Business, and the Graduate School of Professional Accountancy. In addition to the Surugadai Campus, Meiji University also comprises the Izumi Campus, Ikuta Campus, and the Nakano Campus, newly opened in April 2013. Along with excellent teaching staff, all of these campuses are linked with other institutions and facilities for education and research. They feature the latest facilities, equipment, and so on for extracurricular activities. Providing ongoing education and research opportunities, the Surugadai Campus, in particular, features the latest IT infrastructure and the Liberty Tower, with 23 stories above ground and three below. On top of this, the construction of "Global Front," a cutting edge center of excellence in the age of globalization, was completed in January 2013. The founding spirit of Meiji University is encapsulated in the words "Rights, Liberty, Independence, and Self-government." Human rights and liberty are being violated by war or terrorism. The issue of poverty has also not been resolved. There are still an enormous amount of challenges right before us. Can education catalyze to facilitate a better future for the world? How can universities advance technology that can help bring forth this great mission? We, as a university, continuously need to reflect upon ourselves these questions. Meiji University will stand along with our students and co-create ideas and solutions in order for the world to move in a positive direction.

We open the Garden to the public to promote the spread of knowledge about traditional medicine. Japan Pharmacists Education Center has promoted "Training courses for certification in the use of Chinese herbal medicine and natural drugs," one of the center's continuing education program. View full university
