  1. Our goal is to inspire your son, encourage him to dream, take control of his life, and create his bright future. At the core of our curriculum is BBC's Teaching and Learning framework - Dimensions of Learning (DOL). The framework is based on what researchers know about how students learn and combine teacher-directed and student-directed learning. Having one overarching framework creates cohesion in a large school and enables students to make connections across subject disciplines. It also: Provides a resource for teaching and learning strategies. Sets a framework for planning professional learning for staff. Gives students and teachers a common language for talking about learning and teaching. Teaches students thinking skills they can apply themselves hence develop independence. The DOL framework comprises five dimensions: Attitudes and Perceptions, Acquire and Integrate Knowledge, Extend and Refine Knowledge, Use Knowledge Meaningfully, and Habits of Mind. At Brisbane Boys' College, there is always a Next Generation. This is never truer than for technology. Today, more than ever, we need to move our thinking beyond traditional literacy to a more dynamic set of 21st-century fluencies. These skills are needed to live and succeed in this rapidly changing society. These skills are not just about technological prowess. They are not about hardware but more about headware! We promote 21st-century fluencies and encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, and innovation. Staying ahead of the curve is vital; that is why we advocate 1-1 learning using Tablet PCs. This keeps us in-step with the ever-evolving world of technology, transforming today's students into skilled professionals, successful business people, and leaders of tomorrow. Knowledge-based learning is no longer enough. We need to teach children how to think. Not only to solve problems but to recognize them in the first place. We know boys. We know how to harness their energy, curiosity, and thirst for competition. We call this A New School of Thought. Designed to stimulate and challenge inquiring young minds, the BBC's Junior School program caters to young boys' unique learning styles, combining structured and play-based learning experiences. We look beyond traditional foundation skills such as literacy and numeracy, with boys extended in these areas through competitions in debating, public speaking, and mathematics. At the BBC, our focus lies in developing the whole boy and preparing him for future learning and the changing world. Specialists, including Visual Art, Christian Education, Music (choral and ensemble), Technology, and Physical Education, are integrated into our core academic curriculum. Exposure to experiential learning builds and activates resilience, problem-solving, independence, social aptitude, and mindfulness. The synergy between childhood development and a boy's ability to learn, absorb, and apply knowledge is reflected in our approach. Our understanding of key developmental milestones informs teaching strategies and enables us to deliver tailored learning experiences for your son. Designed to stimulate and challenge inquiring young minds, the Junior School program at the BBC caters to young boys' unique learning styles. A combination of creative and structured learning experiences allows each student from Prep to Year 6 to explore their particular interests and individual talents while acquiring a strong foundation for future learning. Purpose-built facilities provide an exceptional learning environment, and all boys are extended and supported at each stage of their development to ensure they experience personal success. The flexible and diverse curriculum encourages students to become active learners, complex thinkers, and effective communicators. At BBC, we believe success starts early, and this sits at the core of our philosophy and vision for Junior School students. The early year's program provides a wide range of educational experiences designed to support boys' academic and personal development. Priority is given to literacy and numeracy, both reinforced and strengthened by exploring core subject areas, including Science, History, and Geography. Specialist lessons in Art, Christian Education, Music, Technology, and Physical Education enable boys to discover individual talents and interests. The curriculum is designed to build a successful foundation for future learning and focus intensely on developing fine motor skills, phonological awareness, and mental habits. In Years 4, 5, and 6, boys are encouraged to evaluate the world in which they live, build on talents discovered during their early years, and continue to develop their knowledge in key learning areas. The diverse program is designed to promote higher-level thinking skills and independent learning. Quality teaching in early childhood is paramount to quality outcomes. Our boys start their formal reading and writing journey from the first weeks of Prep. We follow an evidence-based approach to literacy, which incorporates a love of literature with a highly-structured, synthetic phonics approach to reading and writing. Boys love this. Our approach means our teachers follow a consistent method to scaffold boys' understanding of decoding text and then apply the skills they have learned to comprehend and write. Boys are regularly assessed and placed in focussed groups to support and extend so that they keep up and shine, not catch up. Their success breeds success. View full school
  2. Seventh-day Adventists have been pioneers in education and we are proud of our heritage and traditions. A key focus is providing excellence in teaching and learning through a challenging and inclusive curriculum In 1966, a small Christian primary school was established on what had once been a large dairy farm facing Broadwater Road. It was, in fact, one of the first independent Christian schools established in the Mt Gravatt area. In 1972, a secondary school was established over the creek, along Wishart Road. Both schools grew steadily until 1999 when they were amalgamated with the Early Learning Centre into one College. Since the amalgamation, the College has operated with a single principal, two deputy principals (Primary and Secondary) and a director of Early Learning. BAC, as we are affectionately known, continues to provide quality Christian education to students from all sectors of our community. View full school

The Grammar Schools Act of 1860 enabled funding for secondary education in Queensland. By 1868, enthusiastic public subscribers had raised enough money to establish Brisbane's first Grammar School and first independent boys school. In that same year, Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, laid the foundation stone at Brisbane Grammar School's original site in Roma Street. The new School opened in February 1869 with 94 students and four masters under the leadership of Headmaster Thomas Harlin. In 1881, the School was moved to its present site, and the magnificent neo-gothic style Great Hall and classrooms were opened that year. In 1886, the School became one of the first to provide student boarding facilities on site with the opening of the Boarding House. State-of-the-art science laboratories were built in 1912. The School consistently anticipated educational needs, providing a resource library and language laboratory in 1968, before Commonwealth funding made them standard school facilities. With the purchase of the former Primary Correspondence School in 1993 at the School's southern boundary, BGS grew to accommodate 1200 students. In 2003, the Middle School opened for Years 6, and 7 and 1400 students attended the School. Two essential and impressive sporting facilities complement the Spring Hill campus: The Northgate Playing Fields opened in 1997 and the Indoor Sports Centre in 2000. In 2010, the School opened The Lilley Centre, which combines technology and flexible learning spaces with a well-resourced library and programs to help students navigate their learning. In 2010, the Centenary Building was refurbished to provide similar learning spaces for Middle School students. View full school
  6. Brisbane Girls Grammar is an excellent school with a unique heritage of scholarship and innovation. This is exemplified by our talented and optimistic students, dedicated expert staff, and a supportive community of parents, alumni, and friends who value the most beautiful traditions and aspirations in education. Educating and caring for teenaged girls is our area of expertise. We understand that parents entrusting the education of their daughters to us is a great responsibility. Confident in the strength of our academic traditions and cultural values, the School embraces the challenges of the future to support our girls to become thoughtful, resilient, and confident young women. Girls Grammar education recognizes the individual's particular strengths and needs, seeking to draw out the very best in every girl. While Girls Grammar is academically non-selective, our students' academic achievements are remarkable. We are consistently the top-performing girls' School in the state, with our girls achieving exceptional results in the Year 12 Queensland Core Skills (QCS) Test, the Overall Position (OP) scores, and the National Assessment Program for Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) tests. Our School is far more than a provider of an academically rigorous education. We offer an environment where girls are encouraged to be discerning. Challenging assumptions and becoming comfortable with uncertainty allows them to be reflective and open to others' ideas while fostering a strong sense of self. The School's teaching and learning facilities have expanded significantly in recent years, and in 2013 we acquired our Rangakarra Recreational and Environmental Education Centre at Fig Tree Pocket. Complementing the main campus in Spring Hill and our Outdoor Education Centre in the Mary Valley, this thirteen-hectare site provides the School with its playing fields and opportunities to develop additional educational facilities. In 2013 we commenced work on a significant building project at our main campus — the Research Learning Centre. This five-story building, integrating flexible teaching spaces and a contemporary library facility, was officially opened on Friday 13 March 2015 by Queensland Governor His Excellency, the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, to coincide with the introduction of Year 7 to Girls Grammar and the School's 140th-anniversary celebrations. At the heart of the School, and at the core of all that we do, are the young women in our care. In partnership with families, the School's responsibility is to develop in our girls the capacity to engage with and respond to their world with wisdom, imagination, and integrity. The School's comprehensive framework of student care, based on the House system, nurtures each girl's intellectual, emotional, and social development. Our expert teachers and specialist staff ensure that our girls receive the understanding, care, and support they need during the crucial stage of adolescence. Our wide-ranging programs of academic, sporting, cultural, community service and leadership activities are designed to recognize the particular talents of your daughter and to develop her unique abilities. Brisbane Girls Grammar School's Curriculum is designed to nurture exceptional scholarship and educate students broadly and liberally by ensuring that they are engaged in a wide range of disciplines. The Curriculum is based on the School's philosophy of learning, which encompasses the three key elements of knowledge, skills, and teaching practice (pedagogy). We focus on learning how to learn well, promoting a positive learning mindset, and maximizing learning with productive cognitive and behavioral techniques. Our teaching emphasizes the capacity of an individual to learn, educate the girls to embrace academic challenges, and benefit from the struggles they may encounter. The introduction of the Australian Curriculum has allowed us to examine and refine our understanding of quality education. As such, it is being implemented systematically and thoughtfully beginning with Year 7. This approach minimizes the conceptual gaps which may be associated with a significant curriculum change while allowing us to create units that achieve our educational objectives. The School's commitment to exceptional teaching provides authentic and empowering learning environments for students. Our teachers foster rigor and deep understanding, educating the girls to use disciplined and critical inquiry. Students are taught to understand connectedness across different contexts and become engaged with their learning and learning processes. View full school
  7. Our school is unique in many ways, but foremost we provide a Montessori education using the Montessori philosophy. For those children in primary and middle school, this is also blended with the Australian Curriculum. It is an inspiring educational environment that empowers individuals to realize their full potential. Here at Brisbane Montessori, we aim to provide children with an educational foundation from which they can fulfill their potential, developing independence, social and critical thinking skills. The program is centered on the child and encourages the development of personal responsibility, critical thinking processes, independence, and fosters a love of learning. Families choose a Montessori School for educational and child development reasons. The approach to education is based on a scientific understanding of how a child develops and learns. Educationally the child is at the center of their learning at their own pace with scope to pursue their interests. The integrated Curriculum and multi-age classrooms provide the student with a place where children love to learn. Children’s development of self-awareness and enjoyment of differences allows them to experience inner peace and discover who they are in the world. If you are reading this because you are interested in pursuing a Montessori education for your child, I encourage you to consider booking to attend our Tuesday tours. You are also invited to attend our Montessori Explained Seminars, which we run once a term. You can find out more information about these here. Alternatively, if you are a parent or friend of our current community, I invite you to stay up to date with our school news and events through our Pathways newsletter or our Facebook pages. Your interest and contribution are valued. The Brisbane Montessori School was incorporated as a company in 1981 following the vision of a group of five dedicated parents. They shared a dream of providing a Montessori Primary School education for their children. In 1982 the Brisbane Montessori School commenced a primary school program with one voluntary teacher and five children whose first classroom was the verandah of an old Queenslander. In November 1989, a milestone in the history of the school was achieved. After seven years in various temporary premises, our school occupied the first stage of its own new and permanent home at Fig Tree Pocket. The school was formally opened by the Lord Mayor of Brisbane and in 2012 celebrated our 30th Anniversary. Since these modest beginnings, our school has grown to be one of the largest Montessori schools in Australia. View full school

The Mission of our school was developed collaboratively with our school community and incorporated the original goals of the school when it first began. The Mission reflects two essential ingredients to BIS: Child-Focused – The child'schild'schild's education sits at the center of the decision-making, not the institution and not the adults' needs. Long Term View – We see your child'schild'schild's primary education as the first learning step in a long life of learning. Consequently, our Mission is ultimately about creating experiences that will help them learn to be future great citizens and happy, empowered human beings. To this end, we provide a supportive, flexible, and democratic educational environment for the child's development, including social, emotional, ethical, physical, and cognitive development, within a school community that supports our values. The BIS Values sit as the principles that will deliver our Mission. Our Board may change, and the curriculum is adapted, but these core values will always sit at the school's heart. The Values consequently form the core of the decision-making for all aspects of BIS: students, staff, and management. Therefore, the values are core content for our Expedition curriculum, underpinning the way we see the Australian Curriculum content and the basis for our Study of Self curriculum. Primary-aged children struggle with the big concepts wrapped up in Values words, so we make sure that they live the values' experience in their daily world. The Values also sit as core to how we decide on the budget, future planning, and team direction. We accept that we are all part of a lifelong process of values learning–it is not innate. This process has three stages, starting from the self and expanding to include the wider world. Our innovative Expedition curriculum supports this process by exploring themes and developing our students' student's understanding of themselves and their place within the world. View full school

As each boy's education and personal development is a responsibility shared between the School and the home, the School promotes effective communication with families.
