The BAC is the largest independent CollegeCollege of spatial design in New England. Architecture and design are all we do, so the people who come to study, teach, and work here are crazy about the design. All of our professional degrees are accredited to earn your architectural licensure or interior design certification after graduation. The Boston Architectural College began as a professional club in 1889. In the 1940s, the curriculum was modernized to emphasize history, theory, materials, and methods. In 1971, we became the first accredited architecture program with a work component in the US. The BAC's founders designed hospitals, churches, libraries, schools, theatres, and many notable homes in Back Bay and Fenway started influential companies, including Peabody & Stearns and A. H. Davenport & Company and boasted two future AIA presidents, R. Clipston Sturgis, and Robert S. Peabody. One notable founder, Edward C. In 1908, two Boston women were determined to sit for the Massachusetts bar examination. A lawyer named Arthur Winfield MacLean agreed to tutor them, and other students followed over the next few years until finally, a school was established. MacLean's wife dubbed it Portia Law School after the heroine of Shakespeare's "The Merchant of Venice." Arthur MacLean became the school's first dean as Portia became the first institution in law schools devoted exclusively to women's education. Beginning in 1920, Portia graduates received the LLB degree. When the school moved into its first permanent building in Boston's Beacon Hill neighborhood, enrollment had reached 228. The December 1921 Massachusetts bar exam results indicated that all the women who passed were graduates of the school. In 1938, Portia Law School became coeducational, and in 1969, the school was renamed New England School of Law and granted accreditation by the American Bar Association. The school was relocated to Boston's Park Square area in the 1980s and was elected to the Association of American Law Schools in 1998. Boston University Academy is an academically rigorous independent day school located on the Boston University campus. BUA is the only high school in New England that is part of a major research university, offering a distinctive curriculum to 193 students in grades nine through twelve. Boston University Academy provides students with an unparalleled college preparatory program that combines liberal arts coursework with Boston University classes. At BUA, students’ zeal for learning takes them as far as they are capable. Small class sizes and close relationships with faculty allow students to pursue their passions and nurture their talents. Through the vision and efforts of dedicated Boston area leaders in finance, education, and faith, Boston Trinity Academy opened its doors in September 2002. These founders shared a common goal to address one of the greatest needs for the young people of Boston — a rigorous college preparatory school founded on the Christian faith principles accessible to students from all neighborhoods, ethnicities, and socioeconomic backgrounds. As a result of this vision, Boston Trinity Academy established a program of academic rigor enriched with co-curricular activities for a truly diverse student body. In 2002, Boston Trinity Academy launched with 54 students in grades 6-9 in a rented school building on Beacon Street in Brookline. Adding a grade each year, the school soon grew to 125 students, and in June 2006, the first senior class of 16 graduated — all college bound. In September of that year, the school purchased its facility and moved to an expansive five-acre campus in Boston's Hyde Park neighborhood. Currently, Boston Trinity Academy is educating nearly 250 students in grades 6 through 12. Boston Trinity Academy is a Christian, coed, college preparatory middle and high school.
